Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield NY
Winningbylosing replied to RCrespo84's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Anthem of NJ doing my last appt in 2 weeks then my doc will submit. Good luck hope your approved. I hear they don't require to many bells and whistles. -
I just had my third fill last week and before that I did not have this problem. I am now at 5.5 cc. I had a great experience with Dr. Ortiz. I had a friend that was also banded on January 5 with Dr. Ortiz. Did you meet Nancy? Are you going back to Dr. Ortiz for a fill or do you have someone else to do it? It costs me $100 to get a fill here or $100 US to get a fill at the clinic, so I thought I should save the flight cost and just get it done here.

How much weight did you have to lose before surgery?
Mrs Sabre replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Although my surgeon isn't requiring weight loss as a condition of surgery; he would like to see me lose 10-15 pounds before. The two week liquid diet prior to surgery will likely achieve that goal without any additional effort on my part. -
Teresa, Thanks, Teresa...you are doing great, also......I am feeling some resriction, but then I was very luckily to feel some resriction even prior to my first fill!! But, too bad, my hunger is back and so I am dealing with that.....that first 6 weeks after surgery was so wonderful!!!

Here's my experience and opinion: DO NOT BUY via internet advertising. I did it for one that touted Oprah's endorsement. It's a scam. They charge your credit card lots of $$ even though it's a "free trial". Getting your $$ back takes a lot of time and frustration. Some of these same products are sold at health food and Vitamin stores. Also, I did try it for one week. Made absolutly no difference. Save yourself time and frustration!

No comment... I dunno. I contemplate fills now and then. As much as some days I think a fill would definitely benefit me, then the next day comes, and I have problems with EVERYthing I eat. Way too fickle!!! Look at me... I've been milkin' the same fill since August! It's good, and lucky for me, I suppose. I'm not complaining either... I'll take it. I will truly wait until I don't lose for at least 3 weeks in a row, make sure I'm doing things the way I should be, then see about making the trek to NS for one!

At my last appointment the lady explained to me this way: if you are too tight, and eat something that inflames the band, you will become tighter. Then it will heal and loosen up again until you upset it again. Then it becomes a vicious cycle. If you retain Water, you will be more restricted. When I told her my way of eating (coffee in am, little lunch, eat alot at dinner, but always a lot of mushie type stuff) she told me that I was too full. When she looked at my images she decided that removing .4 cc's would be best. Now I feel wide open, but when I eat I feel no pain. Give me a week and it may change, it may change with each thing I try, but at least we can have it adjusted to fit our needs. Fickle, yes. But what works for you (1.6 in 4cc band) may not work for me (.8 in 4cc band). That is the beauty of the thing.

Hi I had my surgery last Tuesday 3rd May, and apart from the pain in my left shoulder from the gas, for the first week I'm doing fine. Just hope this time I can loose the weight and keep it off. Good luck to others who are having their lap bands put in in the near future. Cheers Kaye

I just had surgery on April 21, I've lost 18 lbs so far. I also had terrible pain in my left shoulder, that was almost inpossible to work out, but finally did thank goodness. The swelling is going down and besides being a little sore, things are going well. Now that they told me to eat regular food, the weight loss has stopped. I am due for my first fill on May 31 and I hope that makes it so I am not so hungry. Loved it at the beginning when I was hardly hungry. Hope the fill goes well. Take care Kaye. Lose Weight before surgery
Day Dreamer replied to apple4dteacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suppose it is unique based on your insurance. My CoE said that I could not lose because I was already borderline BMI. They do have everyone do a 2 week, low carb, pre op diet. During the seminar a lady with UHC asked if she lost weight would she be denied and they told her that it was possible. At this point, I think the insurance companies are looking for any reason not to cover the surgery, so I am not going to give them one. Good Luck -
Hi Helen, Just 3 lb off 4 stone in less than 7 months is brilliant. Well done :rose: I too struggled over xmas with all the chocs around but at least we are not putting weight on and must be excused for the odd hiccup or two. I didnt lose weight for 6 weeks and was getting realy dispondent but as it took me 25 years to put this weight on I guess its not going to dissapear overnight. I went back to the beginning and dug out all my old food records from November to see what I was eating then and gave myself a good talking too. This last fill has definately made a difference. Perhaps you need to review your food choices to get back on track. Good luck to you. Julie

Welcome Gina! I'm 6 weeks post op and have gotten off my high blood pressure medicine and have cut my anti-depressant med in half! the best of luck to you! -
YAY!!! Congrats!! Your pre-op diet sounds so much better than mine was! I had to do sugar free clear liquids for 3 weeks. You can do it!

I read up on the Chloe saga...wow. You are SO excused. God Bless you for what you have meant to that sweet little girl. So put your goggles on, get unburied and back at it here. And keep us updated on Chloe, too. What a story!! Oh, and where's my skinny? I'm 6 weeks post-op now and haven't lost anything since the 15lbs I lost in the first 12 days. But I haven't gained...
-
It's kinda fun staying away 2 weeks cuz you come back & everyone's so skinny! Don't worry, I'm eating for the 9 of us! Zoe, where are you?

Is this a measure of our problem with food?
pinkdots410 replied to Hastings's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Very good point. Just because we CAN eat something doesn't mean eat it...or try it! :smile2: I have made the decision to get the band and follow the rules. No more over-indulging - I've had 10+ years of pigging out and testing my limit with food - IT STOPS HERE. I am determined to be successful! No more starting diets on "Monday" for me. It will not kill me to stay on liquids for 3 weeks, mushies for 2 weeks and then eating healthy - Protein first, then veggies then carbs. It will not kill me to give up caffeine and sodas for 6 months - I've over-indulged on soda for far too long. It will not kill me to avoid alcohol for 6 months - I will have the rest of my life to enjoy the occasional glass of wine or beer. Now is when I LEARN self-control and for once in my life be successful at weight loss. Now who will join me? -
can't get all my protein and liquids in
aeromech replied to bigcheese's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I third that notion! Just keep up and do what your body allows you to. It will get better and easier with a week or so. Your motivation is coming soon when you realize your body can survive off of such few calories compared to how much you used to consume. The weight loss will be there soon too. Keep us posted and don't hesitate to ask for info! -
I was doing okay but out of the blue this morning my port started to hurt quite bad. Sharp pain, pressure. Worse when I walk. A little hard to breathe. I'm only 3 weeks post op. Anyone experience anything similar?
-
What kind of diet did your Dr. put you on for pre-op? Mine has had me on a 700 calorie high protein low carb for 2 weeks. Hope I do indeed have the surgery done next Thursday as planned (June 8th). Waiting to hear from my insurance company at this point. Will be out of town until next Tuesday so will have to check back with the Drs. office at the beginning of next week. It would be nice to know how to plan.

I had my post op appointment yesterday and I feel soooo much better about myself. I was really having a rough time last week with the whole mental eating. Talking with the nurse made me feel great and a big weight was lifted off my shoulder. I've been drinking my Protein shakes, bought some bars and I can now have tuna. For now on it's ONLY protein for me! Also, I joined Curves today and will begin working out at lunchtime Monday-Friday. That's going to help keep my mind off food as well. :whoo: Just wanted to let you all know that I am feeling much better and I am not going to let bad foods try to take control again!!!

Hi I am 6 days post op and really sick with a throat infection. I can barely get any fluids in today. I was doing fine until yesterday. I've had a sore throat but everyone kept telling me it was from the tube. Guess not. I have been running a fever and just feel awful. I am waiting to hear from Dr. Aceves on what antibiotic my PCP should order. The phlegm and coughing hurt and are making me nauseous. I just want to crawl in a hole I also have edema and even though I have only been drinking lo cal Protein drinks and crystal light I have lost only 1 lb since the surgery!!! what is going on with that. I feel really discouraged and am wondering why the heck I did this. I burst into tears this morning just from feeling so sick. Did anyone else not lose weight in the first week?
-
I am feeling much better now, I'm a week and a half outbut still get tired easily, but I also had my appendix removed 3 weeks before my surgery so that may be why I'm not quite as perky as people normally are after lapband placement.. All in all I'm not feeling too bad. Good luck on your surgery!! XXX -Sara

It depends on if your insurance has any preop requirement. I had to go to a nutrionist, psych eval and blood work. It took me 6-8 weeks to get through all of it. Julie

Recommended Reading - Any Good Books?
steph_co replied to HarleyGirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Geneen Roth books are good (Feeding the Hungry Heart is hers). I also did start reading a book called "I Can Make You Thin," but I'm kind of stalled on that. I have a bit of an attention span problem. LOL But the author of that book is actually starting a series based on that book. I think it's going to be on TLC or Discovery or something like that. Should be coming up in March.
