  1. I am in the middle of the two week liquid pre-op so there will be no thanksgiving eating for me but I am going focus on what I am thankful for and enjoy my liquid diet. Its only one day, I keep telling myself that over and over LOL
  2. Will you be home for Thanksgiving or at a family event? I will be at home on the holidays so I will eat as usual. Like you breaking your stall (congrats), the weight loss and fear of gaining it back, are great motivators not to go overboard during the holidays. I count calories, weigh my food no matter what. If on vacation, or a special event, I eat a bite of different things, log them right after the meal. If I can't log at the time, I take snapshots of the dish before I eat (and after) so I can remember what I ate and how much I ate, then log later. 24/7, 365 days/year.
  3. We don't do thanksgiving here but last holiday season I was 6 weeks post op and eating at a relative's house. I hadn't told anyone I had had the surgery so I actually cheated on purpose that day so I could eat more than usual and not draw attention to myself. So I ate the carbs first, veg second, protein little and last, and I kept drinking liquid to get it all through my pouch. I've cheated on purpose a few times since too. It's useful to know the rules (and break them) in certain situations if you don't dump (the risk I took!!!) Also brought home to me how very easy it is to eat around the pouch - even that close to surgery I managed about half a proper dinner. I'll be doing the same this year. However - that isn't what you asked OP! When I'm eating celebration meals at home I do it on a side plate and just have a tiny bit of everything. And I have never felt like I'm missing out. I hope you can too.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I hope this was a pep talk and not a lecture! If it helps you refocus then brilliant. You've already done so well, he's probably just willing you to go further. I came here to wish all my November 2021 friends a happy anniversary. I'm just past mine, pretty much done losing at this point I think - I've lost 1lb in the last 5 weeks, but I am maintaining without too much thought. I still do track every single bite I eat, just out of habit, and I think I need to! It would be so easy to slip. I hope you are all happy with where you are, and that those of us who still have a bit to go can keep it up! Would you have believed a year ago you would lose what you have? I certainly wouldn't. 🤩 Just for the record I weigh 154lbs, that's a total loss of 122lbs since 2 months pre-op and 97lbs since the day of surgery. I'm maintaining on about 1400 calories a day on weekdays and probably 1700-1800 at the weekend because I drink alcohol then.
  5. It’s been a week after gastric bypass surgery and I’m on thick liquids not taking pain meds much anymore but every time I drink or have my soups my stomach hurts a lot. Protein shakes are really sweet and hurt my stomach even water and popsicles. Plus I’m lactose intolerant and sensitive to corn ingredients so I stay away from those so I know that’s not where the pain is coming from. Anyone else have pain after eating or drinking post op?
  6. I am like this. I am 2 weeks today and I am not feeling the restriction. I just feel hungry. Sent from my SM-F916U using BariatricPal mobile app

3.5 weeks PO Gastric Sleeve DUMPING?!

Our new tummies have attitudes like toddlers. Every so often it will throw the toys out of the pram. There has been no reason for mine to act up one day and not another. Its eggs, chicken, lamb and salmon that I have issues with. I don't dump but I get the foamies. One day this week we had roast lamb, and it was fine. The day after I had problems for hours which I ended with vomiting. I keep trying these foods every month. One day I will be ok.

    Regrets ?

I'm six days post-op, and I don't think I regret it. The day I was dismissed from the hospital, they stopped my blood pressure and diabetic medications. That's huge! But since then, my sugar has been low, and my pressure has been low once or twice, which is weird. I'm just wondering if all my problems will reverse or if my body is trying to find my new homeostasis. I've been on liquids only for nearly a month now, and that's getting old. But no soreness, and I didn't experience any gas pain at all, even in the hospital, probably due to my unique circumstances. I've had a bit of trouble sleeping and have been a bit lightheaded. Lastly, I thought getting in protein would be a breeze, but in reality, it's far more challenging than I thought. I never knew how much I truly disliked protein shakes until I had to drink 3-5 daily for 30 days. I look forward to eating again, even if it is mush. Anything not sweet, anything I can use my jaws on, LOL 😂. Liquid Diet Weight Loss: -27 lbs (2 weeks) and Post Surgery Weight Loss: -4 lbs (4 days)

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Two weeks post op today and I am so hungry. I am getting all my protein in. I have been forgetting my fluids that last few days. I go back to work tomorrow. Most of my incisions seem to healing nicely. I have only lost 3 lbs so far....
  10. Some foods just don't agree with you at first. Eggs and beef are big ones that a lot of people struggle with. I wouldn't say this is dumping as it is VERY unlikely for sleeve patients anyway. I think your tummy just didn't like the egg. unfortunately it is just trial and error until you figure it out. Try again in a few weeks or month. I hope you feel better soon!
  11. I have been super paranoid and careful with my food progression and choices. I am 3.5 weeks post op and my plan allows for soft or pureed foods starting at 2 weeks PO. Yesterday I had one hardboiled eggs (mashed up really well) with low fat mayo for lunch and within 45 minutes I was in the bathroom for the next two hours with things coming out at both ends. I had NEVER been this sick in my entire life. It was violent and non stop. I don't get it, I ate extremely slowly, took about 35 minutes to finish one egg, I've eaten eggs before (soft scrambled) and mayo (with tuna) before with no issues whatsoever. Now I am legit terrified to eat anything as I don't trust my body. Please tell me what your experience is with dumping after sleeve surgery and does the risk of it happening lessen as you heal more? Yes, I am eating very slowly, eating small amounts, not drinking during meals, etc. All the rules that I was taught to prevent the risk of dumping.

    August surgery buddies!

Good for you! That's quite a milestone. I've lost nearly 40, it seems to follow 5 pounds, then a stall, repeat. I'd like to have lost more, but I don't have as much to lose as many people, so I have to factor that in.

Yes its normal. Its all based on your weight, height. SOme are only on it for 1 week. some 2 weeks some more than a month for the bigger people. and some only 1 day before. Consider yourself VERY LUCKY. I did 2 weeks and it was hell lol

    Sleeve to DS

I had gerd & was able to get the conversion from sleeve to DS. My surgery was November 18, 2022. I had 2 bouts of acids reflux the night of surgery but nothing since. Also, my surgeon prescribed Protonix to be taken daily for 3 months even if I don’t have any reflux issues. As far as recovery…. My stomach is still bloated from all the air they pumped in me prior to surgery. I also had my gallbladder taken out as well, so my stomach is a bit sore. Sleeping with a pillow pressed against my stomach helps me sleep really well. I’m able to get in my protein & water with no issues thus far. My body is tired, but I feel pretty good overall.

    November 2022 surgery support!

This is my first post! I was sleeved 11/11 and just started the puree stage (my program calls it "smooth textures") on Sunday - yesterday was the first day I managed to hit both my protein and fluid goals, which was really exciting. I managed to eat 4oz of refried beans and hot sauce in the morning, but in the evening could only finish half of the ricotta and egg white scramble I made, so the rest was made up via protein shakes. I'm so happy to be able to add some savory foods back to my diet - I don't have the biggest sweet tooth and I was getting so sick of the taste of protein shakes last week. Right now fluids are still giving me the most trouble, but I've been having better luck using the Owala water bottle with the built-in straw and it hasn't been giving me trouble with extra air. I don't know if it's because I don't swallow as I'm drinking, I still hold all the fluid in my mouth for a second because I'm afraid of taking too big of a drink no matter how I'm drinking it, but I'm glad I can still use my favorite water bottle so far.

    August surgery buddies!

55 lbs is fabulous! Congratulations! So far I've lost 47 at my 3 month mark. My weight loss has slowed down and I panic sometimes thinking I'm eating too much but it's coming along. Exercise is hard for me too. It's cold outside and I don't want to take walks 😩. I'm so happy for all of us! The first couple of weeks after surgery were hard but worth it.

    August surgery buddies!

Today is month 3 since surgery. All together I have lost 55 lbs and 36 inches. I need to start an exercise routine. I think that’s my biggest growth area. But I am definitely happy with my progress. Very excited about this. This is a revision for me and this time it feels very different. My surgeon said my weight loss will be slow but I don’t find that to be the case. I think I’m progressing just fine😊.

    Drinking Water

The way I found my "limit" was to start with 1 sip from a 1 ounce cup every 15 minutes. See how your body tolerates it. If it tolerates it well, then move to 1 sip every 14 minutes, then 13, and so on and so forth. It is a process but you will find your limit within a day or two. One of the one ounce cups should probably take you 2-3 sips to get through, although everyone is different so test that out. If you feel a new pain after your sip, stop and let it fully go away before taking another sip. I think these steps should help anyone with their water intake. Using those steps I was able to find my limit, then I would gradually increase it to my comfort level. I'm just about 3 weeks post op and I'm able to drink about 10-12 ounces an hour or so. It's really important you listen to your body though. The good thing is, as of week 4 your stomach should be healed up and your chance of it bursting/popping is significantly reduced at this point.

    Drinking Water

I’m in week 4 and it’s still difficult to drink all the water I need a day. Also I haven’t been able to drink the protein because I know I will not be able to drink it all. Anyone have any tips as to what y’all do to keep up? I have my water bottle with me all day and I take sips throughout the day but It’s hard to drink it all still.

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

I am one week into the pre-op and these protein shakes are tasting so sweet I can't hardly do it! I have another week of this until surgery and then a few weeks after. I go tomorrow for my pre-surgery appointment so hopefully they can help me find some that are not so sweet ughhhhhh

1 week post of and severe diarrhea

Today I had a bit of loose stool. Not too bad but not the norm. I did take extra benefiber, and haven't added anything different so I came to look at this site to see- since I have been pretty much eating the exact same things for two to three weeks- and my yogurt has one of things you listed as sugar alcohol <1g I didn't see it as an issue. Maybe it's that or something else. I'm thinking I should drink some extra fluids to compensate. Scared but excited.

    December surgery

I don't start mine until the day after Thanksgiving 11/25/22. My doctor's plan seemed to be a bit different than some that I have seen on here. He only requires 1 week. I've already cut back on so much though. How's it going for you?

    November 2022 surgery support!

11/3 surgery hitting the expected stall a little early… been same weight since friday- but it’s all good! that to me means healing at this stage and after what i have been through healing is great… i am feeling good, just a little achy and my stamina is starting to improve … still have some issues with enough liquids, but reaching over 50 oz so not far to go… so far experimenting with purée has gone well… i full easy but my body hasn’t rejected food yet! continuing to get hiccups and burps if i drink or eat too quickly … gotta listen to that !
  24. I was also told under the program to wait 3 months, but then it turned out that I could not eat carbs for almost 6 months and with a nutritionist gradually introduced them into the diet. So it all depends not only on the program but also on you.

    Food Before and After Photos

Never again. My daughter ordered truffle fries thinking there would be just a few shavings of truffle on top but no. These were aioli covered monsters that no one wanted. They gave me heartburn (for the first time in 3 yrs)
