    Lowest point before surgery

I think my low point was when it had been almost a year since I had my heart attack I was then diagnosed with diabetes. My primary care physician asked me if I wanted a referral to weight loss surgery. That's when it hits me. I have to do something or I could die and leave my 10 year old son without me. Sent from my LG-US998 using BariatricPal mobile app

Ok, sorry to clog up the feed so much lately! I just love those little egg poachers! I've been making this green soup for a long time and I only just started making "tofu" out of egg whites (can't have tofu). And if you have trouble with eggs, you should totally try this method. You season them how you wish: yesterday was mexican with salsa, today is asian with five spice, garlic, ginger, sriracha, sesame oil. Then poach or nuke em in a bowl (20 second intervals in the micro until just done--takes 2-4 sessions). Then cube them and drop them in your soup. Tender, delicious. This made 2 cups (2 servings) of fabulous and comforting soup and took all of about 5 minutes to throw together and about 10 minutes to cook. #dangdelicious! Here's the ingredient list. Each time it's different depending on which veg is lurking in the freezer. 2 servings totals: 255 cals; 32g protein; 6g fat; 16g carbs; 8g fiber; 8g net carbs per serving: 178cals; 16g protein; 3g fat; 8g carbs; 4g fiber; 4g net carbs. Score!!!

    Lowest point before surgery

Mine was Being a single Dad and raising two teanagers while sitting in my office at 10:00 am and fell over out of the chair, Unable to get a breath and dizzy as hell, My office staff got me into a truck and to the ER that is only about a mile away. I had been on a rough time losing a good friend who died in his sleep, and stress big time. It took a healthy dose of morphine to calm me down, 4 Nitro Hits to get my heart to slow down, and bags of IV fluid to get me Hydrated. 40 years of playing hard, Drinking and Stress led to 99% blockage of the widow maker! Off To the NCH Cardio Ward and in 5 days felt 25 again, But i got way to close to 400 pounds and it took a good look in the mirror and one simple question Keep Playing hard and who is going to finish raising these kids? or get healthy! Never been healthy or happier

Also its nobody's business what you decide you are doing this for yourself and only yourself,

    A possible solution?

Wow, amazing full list. You are a bariatric bad ass. Update us on the runs when you have time. My mother passed away from cancer in 2013 I had surgery in June 2014. My goal was to do a 5K in her memory. First 5k (turkey trot) in November 2014 . Race for the cure was on Mother’s Day. Emotional to cross the finish line. I went on to do 10, half and full marathons. Still amazed that I’m doing this in my 50’s. I carb load for half and full marathons. My bariatric team had no clue how to fuel with a bariatric stomach. I hired a sports medicine dietician to help me dial things in. I learned many things from the other bari -athletes on this site. I love shalane Flanagan (Olympic runner) book. Eat slow run fast. I am doing race to Robbie creek half marathon. It’s an elevation mountain trail run. Idaho wine run half or full. Beautiful vineyards and wine tasting after party. I’m still deciding on charity runs for 2020.

    14-day Pre-op Starts Today

Day 11 and still pumped! I had my pre-op diet weigh in and I have lost a total of 19lbs since I started this! The weekend will be a breeze as Monday is the big day. Surgery is at 10:30 am! WOO
  10. Good morning!! I’m very new here, I ran across the site yesterday and thought I’d go ahead and sign up! I’m 29 years old and a mom of 2. I just got married March 29th this year but we’ve been together for 7 years! I started my journey March 22nd, 2019. I went to my initial consult one week before my wedding day lol. I didn’t know if I really wanted to have surgery at that point but the thought had crossed my mind many times so I began the process. I waited until after our honeymoon and for the wedding excitement to calm a bit before starting monthly PCP visits. At my consult in March I was 292lb but at my visit to my pcp in May I was 312lb...wtf lol. Happy weight maybe? It needed to go..since my 2nd PCP visit on 6/25/19 I’ve lost 30lb so I’m pretty happy with the work I’ve put in so far. My husband had no idea I weighed over 300lb but I’m “proportionate” so it’s hard to tell exactly, but I knew. Anyway. I spent my 6 months researching and educating myself on this surgery, reading others stories, the good and the bad. I’m definitely having the surgery and I’m excited! Today is actually my pre op visit with surgery set for December 16th! I’m open to any advice, suggestions, or stories! I’m excited to y’all with you guys!

    Starting the process

I had my gastric sleeve on Oct 28th,2019...so I am 3 weeks post op....Best thing I ever did for myself...Only lost a few pounds since surgery but can tell I am losing by my clothes.....since surgery ( three days after) I have come off BP medicine that I have taken for 25 years and the completely uncontrollable Bladder is no longer a problem...I have gone from a 3x to a 1x ...I was setting a new digital clock today in the kitchen and wanted to get it to my bedroom before to much times lapsed so I took off with my husbands walker and ran as fast as I could to the bedroom to plug it in...I haven't run in years.....I think I might have helped a back problem that I have had for several years now...I probably scared it to death...lol oh and dumb me should have realized that running there to plug in wasn't going to work....when I unplugged it I lost everything just like as if the power had gone off...I wasn't thinking straight....I have not used any of the medicines that were prescribed for me to take for pain, nausea, or cramps...I have had none of those....only problem that I have had was eating to much of the protein drinks or whatever at one sitting.....I should have been trying for 2 oz instead of 4 but since I learned that was what was causing so much gas,,,I just cut back....Dr. said on 2 wk post op visit that I was doing great...I know this has been easier on me than a lot of people that I read about and I am so thankful for that.. I do have a problem trying to drink the amount of water that they want me to drink...I have never been one to drink water at all...and I sometimes don't get all the protein in....but I am trying...putting one foot in front of the other and doing it one day at a time....So I would say GO FOR IT,,,as everyone will tell you , you will not regret it...God Bless...I chose the sleeve because it is less invasive to the body....I am 79 years old and never thought that I would even be approved for this surgery,,,,Feeling good and Know that God is Blessing me here...

True on the whole clothes sizes changing. Right now I’m an 8/10 and size medium and when I was 15-25 pounds lighter than I am today, I was wearing similar sizes. Now the last time I weighed under 150 was in ‘96, because I got preggo in October of 96 and that’s when I gained the 90+ pounds and never recovered (until now). Oddly enough, I had already had my son when that wedding pic was taken. My body bounced back within a year of having him, but not so much with my daughter.
  14. Well I have my date and it is Dec 31. Later than I was hoping since it would be much easier to take the time off in dec then January but they’ve co firmed if something earlier opens up they’ll call me. And at least I have a date and it is 2019 😀

@ms.sss I found them on Amazon Canada. The price is about $10 more than expected with the currency exchange. Canada boots for Ms.sss
  16. Making this review because I didn't see my doctor listed in the group of surgeons and I don't see a lot of other Oklahoma people around here. I actually started my journey with another medical group, not affiliated with a hospital. I wouldn't call them fly by night but close. Did a lot of self pay type patients. Anyways, I did their seminar to see what I qualified for, if anything, insurance wise. Turns out I qualified for nothing at that time (due to poor coverage, not my weight or co-morbidities). I did their non-surgical weight loss and it was fine, nothing special. I saw my GP (part of the OU system) and he recommended I look into WLS and recommended the group at OU. I took his advice and went to the required seminar in February of 2019. After the seminar I signed up to get more info and have my initial appointment with the WLS group at OU. About a month later I had my first appointment and went over everything that would need to be done before surgery. It was much more extensive than the other place I had visited! PT, Psych, Nut, blood work, chest x-ray, EKG, pre-op scope - made me feel quite confident in their program! I was also required to go to 2 group sessions which were great! So I got in the program in February. I got my weight loss goal that I needed to hit for surgery and they worked on things from the insurance end. I had to meet with them monthly until surgery. Then the problems started. First my work made it very hard (read impossible) to leave for my appointments. I couldn't take early lunches or skip lunch in lieu of an appointment. The WLS group was great about working through that and around things. Then came my trip to Europe. I went wild. I came back 20 pounds above my starting weight and they wouldn't budge on my goal. My final hurtle was that my insurance plan year ran from 11/1/18 to 11/1/19. Meaning I had to hit my goal and get everything done by and surgery scheduled BEFORE 11/1/19! It was June at this point! I went into psycho mode - walking miles each day, eating nothing that wasn't on my list and I made it! They saw my work and that I was getting close to my goal and gave me my surgery date of 10/22 on Aug 22. Surgery was great! I had no complications and they fixed my hiatal hernia when they were in there. I'm just over 3 weeks post-op now and everything has been going swimmingly. I've lost 33 pounds since my surgery date. The surgeon and her group are great. They know everyone by name. I don't have much access to the surgeon but I get it when I need it. I mostly work with the PA. I can see the nut or psych whenever I want, which is nice. If anything the office is TOO busy. My one month post-op has to be 6 weeks after surgery due to her being busy and only having one day for office hours. If anyone has any questions about this group feel free to ask me!
  17. well, just some encouragement, i was in a 10 day stall and it just broke. 3 pound loss out of nowhere. it will break. just keep going!!
  18. Anyone have some suggestions on the best apps to use after Gastric Sleeve? I’ve seen a few, but was curious to hear from real people which ones they like. Thanks!
  19. I had blood work done on Tuesday and everything was great. My doctor is pushing the exercise. She thinks I’m not doing enough. . I weigh 10 pounds more than I did last year and I don’t have much endurance. Yoga, stretching, elliptical(I am on it as soon as I wake up), walking 10 miles a day, and gym 4 times a week. She is also 30 years younger and really doesn’t understand menopause. I will try some more soups and see if it helps. I’m so overly cautious after a bad yogurt reaction . The doctor that did the sleeve talked about 400 calories a day with 50 grams protein. Is that a typical goal?

    The Maintenance Thread

Okay so I definitely weigh more than my mid 20’s self and waaaaay more than my teen self. Jeez, I can remember when I got to 125 in my senior year in HS and cried bc I was “fat”. Found this pic from 1995. I was 27 and matron of honor for my sisters wedding. I weighed around 130-135 here and was upset bc I was 10 pounds over my college weight. So this pic is 20 pounds lighter (and almost 25 years younger) version of me. I think now I’m def carrying less fat for my weight

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Okay so I can eat really fast. As in 3oz meat and 1/2 cup salad in 10 mins fast. My saving grace on that is that I’m veeeery careful to pre-package/measure beforehand so I don’t gobble up too much too fast. If I’m eating something super-delicious and find myself looking longingly at leftovers, I set an alarm for 15 minutes. If I’m still hungry after that time then I go get 1 spoonful of whatever I wanted and then make myself savor it slowly. it took me 3-4 months to figure this out, but the first signal I’ve eaten too much is a runny nose, followed by sneezing. once the sneezing stops, I better not take another bite bc then the pain/stomach cramping starts. still haven’t thrown up once since surgery, but it’s mostly bc I’m super cautious and am lucky enough to have a cast-iron sleeve

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

How long does it take you to eat? It still takes me quite a while to eat, takes me about 45 mins to an hour to eat one of my regular-sized salads (not the ginormous ones I make when I'm excited, lol). I can eat a lot more that I used to, that's for sure, it just still takes me a while to do it. I can sit and eat my small meal in 10 minutes. I try to slow down but I guess since it's not a huge amount it's ok <....> Do you think I am pushing it? Going to cause an issue? I do think that eating slowly is a good habit to have long term. Mindfulness and all that...

    november sleeve

I haven’t checked in here in a while, but I am 6 days out from my date (11/19) .. I am excited, struggling with the liquid diet but not discouraged. I hear constipation is an issue for most, along with gas. Any tips besides miralax? I was hoping for something more natural so my body wouldn’t necessarily depend on it. Also! Congratulations to any of the recent sleevers
