    1/2cup of food

Lets see, there are 3 tsps. in a tablespoon. Half a cup of eggs seems like an odd amount and a lot for 12 days out. I didn't have egg until 19 days out and then it was 2T(1/8 cup). Maybe your pouch/stomach is bigger, you have not put your information in, so no idea what surgery you had. My NUT list also states that the quantities are the MAX not to eat it all if you are satisfied and have your full feeling, maybe you are missing it?

    Need support. Husband left!

I am sorry to hear that, my paryers go out to you. I met a girl who was married for 10 years. Her husband used to leave her every 3 months. I feel madly in luv with her. weve been togather for 7 years now. What im trying to say is that when a door closes 10 windows open. hiding behind food is not the answer. if your mad, angry, hurt, try doing what i do. i go for a walk anywhere(mostly in a store, mall,) anywhere people are and i say HI to everyone no matter what. I smile and you would not beleive the effect that has on me. Some people think im a crazy person but most say hi back and they also smile. It doesnt fix the problem but it gets rid of the alt. of staying home and getting upset about it. Hope this helps. John
  4. i had a BMI of 35 and i was banded 04/21/08 weighing in at 213 pounds with a height of 5'-4". i was on a 2 week liquid diet and didn't really lose much weight. after my surgery i lost 14 pounds. after my first fill i gained 2 pounds back immediately. i just feel so hungry all the time... worse than i felt before my first fill. so i'm going for fill #2 this weekend. i lost those 2 pounds on top of 4 more so i'm down 19 pounds in approximately 45 days. its still going to be a struggle even though we have low BMI's... maybe even harder. don't get discouraged. you're just entering Bandster Hell when you have the surgery and don't lose much weight. you may not lose much at all until after a couple of fills. stay strong!
  5. I had been treated for asthma for like 10 years prior to surgery. When they did my EGD and found evidence of GERD along with a hernia they sent me to a pulmonologist who confirmed it. Not asthma, chronic coughing from GERD. Put me on a ppi and it cleared up immediately. The first month after surgery it was way worse. I raised the head of my bed which helped and they doubled the PPI. Much better! Then with healing and weight loss much MUCH better! I still take the ppi but no symptoms anymore.
  6. Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site, but excited to connect with people who can relate to what I'm going through. We just returned from a family cruise (34 people) in celebration of my grandmother's 95th bday, so I just started my Opti Fast today. So far it's been okay, I thought I would be a lot hungrier. I have been somewhat cranky, but my husband has been great. I look forward to sharing my story with you all; I now know where I can go if I need some moral support!

  9. Prior to surgery my family and I would eat out about 10 times a week. I know this is AWFUL!!! At any rate, my life evolved around fast food, resturants, etc. I am amazed that since this surgery I have not once wanted food from a take out, fast food type of place. I really thought this would be something I would have to contend with. Has anyone else experienced this?

Congratulations on the start of your journey. My names Dawn. I was banded in Oct. 2009. You are correct that things go away after you are banded. Luckly I wasn't on any medication before surgery but I was borderline everything and I had sleep apnea (used a CPAP machine for 5 years). My BMI was 49 when I started and I weighed 304lbs. I am no longer borderline anything. All of my bloodwork is normal. I no longer have Sleep Apnea. I am 19lbs from goal (204) and have lost 101lbs so far. My BMI right now is 32. I went from a size 26 to a 14. I can walk long distances now without having to stop and breath. My chest doesn't tighten anymore. I don't have to run to the bathroom every 5 minutes or worry about having an uncontrolable accident from not being able to hold my urine due to being too heavy anymore. I also had open heart surgery for an aortic aneurysm in 2001 and a valve replacement. At the time I chose a porcine valve (pigs valve) because I was only 34 at the time and I didn't like the fact of having to take blood thinner for the rest of my life. Downfall is that this type of valve only lasts for about 10 years. Needless to say I am reaching my 10 years and I am hoping that with the weightloss I have prolonged my next surgery. My cardiologist told me that if I didn't lose the weight I could die on the table. So that was my major shove in the right direction to get this surgery done. Next heart surgery I will get a mechanical valve because I honestly don't want to be (sorry to be graphic) cracked open again. I have no regrets about the surgery except that I didn't get it done sooner. I haven't weighed this much since 1987 so it's been many years. As I tell everyone, I have lost a total person on the outside but I have gained a person on the inside. I have found ME again. Myself esteem is no longer in the crapper and I feel very good about myself. I wish you much success and hope that things go very smoothly for you with the approval process. You have come to the right place for support. Everyone here is very wonderful. I would also recommend a local support group in your area if there is one. Please keep us posted.
  11. Ok so I'm 4 days post-op (banded 10/17), and following everything religiously. The one thing that is bugging me is that I am not allowed milk of any kind according to my Dr.'s post-op instructions. Any idea the reasoning behind this? I get the whole sugar free thing, but not this... Thanks! Kat

I went in on Wednesday about 11:00 A.M. and did all the pre-op paper work and blood work. I was taken to the surgery holding area about 12:15 and had more reviews and I kept a real postivie attitude. One of the questions was why are you doing this and I said that Iam doing this to make my life better for myself and the family. At about 1:30 P.M. I was taken into surgery and slide over on the table and they gave me some drugs and the next thing I know I was in recovery. About 2:30 P.M. About an hour later I was taken up to my room and then I was allowed to get up and take care of business. Then I was able to walk around. I know everybody is differant in how they handle pain etc. but I must admitthe only pain that I had an nothing work was the gas pains. That hurt most of the night but I ddi keep up walking etc. On Thursday went for the barrium swallow and got to see the band work and was able to start on liquids by 10 A.M. and was home by 4:00 P.M. on Thursday. I went to see the doctor on Friday because my incision (I have 6) the one by the belly button/now port was very red. He put me on some liquid antibotics. While there he said that it only took him 41 minutes to get the band on me. He said that there was a little fat but not much. The week before my wife had the band done. Since we were not sure if she had a cold or allergies we both did the lquid diet. The biggest mistake for me was going off of it and then restarting back again since Iam allways feeling hungery even though iam eating enough. Just something I will have to get used to over the next few weeks. Thanks again to everyone for all there help and advice. Chris Banded 9/19/07 St. Louis Pre/Surg/ 250/231/? 14. wow, HELLO fellow June 2011 bandsters. I was banded on June 30th. I started at 220# the beginning of my journey in Jan. 2010. Had to lose 10% weight by march 2011. At that time I was 208#. Gained back up to 215# waiting for insurance to approve. Surgery date set and weight was back down to a 206#. Surgery date weight was 204#. Two days after surgery I was 210# and now I am 189#. I have stopped losing weight due to relapse into old eating habits. I've been at 189# for two months now. I am working with an eating behavioralist to get "back on track" with my meals. I am at three fills and feeling some restriction. I am sure that one more fill will put me in the green zone. I know that I will start losing again in the next month as my behavioralist is aggressive in her therapy. So happy she is non judgemental, I judge myself enough lately. So I am married with four children, boy 21, boy 18, girl 15, step son 11 and boy 3. Also have a grand daughter 8 months. I live in Minnesota but my heart is warm and sunny in Miami. It would be nice to hear from more June 2011 bandsters. and updates on you goals and weight loss. I need some inspiration. Also anyone see the movie Corageous?

    throat gurgles

Hi, I'm just over 10 months out and I still get the loud gurgles. I also get the full feeling in my throat if I eat too much sometimes it's reallllly painful. I've learned now to stop before it gets to that point because that last bite no matter how good it is, is not worth that 30 minutes of pain. I usually get a hiccup and that's my signal that I'm full. It'll take some time to get used to all the signs of when to stop eating/drinking..
  18. Wow, such inspiration in this thread! I look at it this way, in 10 years, you'll be ten years older anyway. In 20 years, you'll be 20 years older anyway. Might as well do it now, and be healthy for the next 30+ years ^^

    Banded Yesterday

My hernia repair was under my breast bone and it was painful for first 2 days. It also felt bad every breath I took. I took my pain meds every 4 hours sharp. I also put a heating pad for 10 minutes on top of my breast bone area to relieve some of this. I did not dry heave. Maybe you should sit in an easy chair with head elevated to help you. By day 3 all discomfort was gone except tender belly button area for another day and then on Day 4 everything stop hurting. I think to get a good nights rest on Day 4 I took my pain med 1 more time. Best wishes and Congratulations.
  22. I have 3 small children - ages 4, 3, and 9 months. I work in education and am off for the summer. I am up and literally running around starting at 5:30am until 8:30 or whenever the kids crash. Trying to get a good walk or any kind of meaningful exercise with them is a joke. We take a walk and they stop every two feet to look at bugs. I have to wait until they go to bed and my husband gets home from work to go out and walk. For the 3rd night in a row, I get a call from him saying he'll be late. By the time he rolls in, it's after 10:30 and I'm too exhausted to go for a power walk. Monday it was errands, last night he stopped at the gym to splash around in the hot tub because his back was sore, tonight its the street near his office was flooded so he is waiting for the clean up. I'm so aggravated!!!!! Exercise is a huge part of this and all he has to do is get home before 9pm. My mother in law does help with the kids a couple of days a week but i use that time to grocery shop, prepare food, clean, etc. I just had to blow off before I scream
  23. I feel silly asking but,............. what happens once your band is filled to capasitity ? I have now 7cc in a 10 cc band. I ve been banded for a yr and a half. I ve just never read any thoughts on the subject?

    Holy Bruises Batman!

Not only am I at a 9-10 on the pain scale, but I have a dollar size dark purple bruise under my incision. Every time I move, every time I reach... ow. So, my surgical nurse called to check on me, and when I told her how I felt, she informed me that the intense pain was not normal and to contact Dr. Hollis immediately. I called and got Hollis's NP. The NP told me that, since the Lortab Elixar wasn't making a dent, I should try using a heating pad and taking Advil every six hours. Seriously? Heating pad and Advil for pain that makes me wish I'd decided to stay fat?? And do they even read the warning label, because I do. Know what it says... may cause stomach bleeding. Anyone else seeing the problem? I don't know.. I'm walking, I'm moving... not sleeping, but otherwise doing what I'm doing what I'm supposed to do. The gas pain is getting better, which is good. The bruises are a little scary. Just the look of the dark purple and the scares... it made my mom physically ill to look at. I can't wait until that part goes away. And the super glue stuff they put Humpty Dumpty back togther again is a little scary. Stitches I'm ok with...but they super glued me! It just looks WEIRD. In fact, I just took my first shower since the surgery and was super nervous about rubbing the glue off by accident. Let me tell you, your skin that has been sliced 2" pushed together and super glued back together feels incredibly weird! So now, I'm sitting here, tired as heck, with a cat making muffins on my leg because my stomach is strickly off limits, and I'm waiting for the heating pad and Advil to make a difference. Still waiting....
