  1. I started my first diet when I was about 10. My parents still have the picture of me standing at the fridge, the Sunday night, before the diet started the next Monday morning. Why do All Diets have to start on a Monday? I have been on the uphill battle of Losing weight/gaining weight for about 29yrs now.

  2. Thinking about my appointment on the 30th with my LB surgeon. It's been 2 years of steroids, an accident in September and no exercise due to pain. I am disgusted with my weight gain and the vomiting from the band. Hoping a solution can be found before I give up.

    out of control

first off i want to say i know this is similiar to the thread "the "voice" is back". i didnt know if i should post this there or start my own, so i started my own just in case. i have another fill scheduled, but its not for a couple weeks. i am just out of control. i cant stop snacking. i tell myself stop! no more. and i throw whatever it is away. but then, shortly after i find something else in my hand on its way to my mouth! it is driving me nuts. i feel hungry all the time, even though i know i am not. i had a hysterectomy in october. i am now on replacement hormones. would/could these be having an effect? i am also on an antidepressant. it used to be if i forgot to take it i could tell because i would want to eat everything in sight. maybe it needs adjusted now too? this is all so frustrating and upsetting. i was a slow loser, but at least i was a loser. now i am a fast gainer. and its making me more upset and frustrated which in turn makes me want to eat more...its a bad cycle i have fallen back into. and on top of that my back is killing me again. is that from the regain too? i dont know! but i know by the time i get home from work i can barely move some nights. and then its take care of the kids-dinner, boxing practice, baths-i just have no energy. i collapse on the couch when i get the baby into bed! my house is a mess, i am not cleaning like i should. i barely exercise anymore. and i know all this is part of if not the problem with my weight gain. but what do i do? instead of getting up and doing something i sit and whine. i have an appt for the regular doctor this thursday to see about adjusting my meds. i hope that will help. anyone with any advice please please respond. even if its a kick in the butt, i need that too!

    Ok you guys...tell me -

My surgeon says that there can be some "stretching" but mostly there is an increase in the opening from the stomach to the intestines allowing food to pass through quickly. He claims most weight gain is because people learn to eat around their stomachs by consuming liquids and sliders.

    Irregular cycles still?

A few years ago I was diagnosed with something called Polycystic ovarian syndrome. It is actually a very common problem amongst overweight women. It causes irregular periods and small cysts in the ovaries. It is also linked with weight gain, diabetes, and heart disease. PCOS is one of the reasons why I finally decided to have weight loss surgery. There is not much awareness about it and although I had textbook symptoms since I was a teen. I was not diagnosed until my 30s. Anyway my point is talk to your Obgyn about your irregular periods. It's important to get your hormones under control.
  8. I was struggling with a fill which was far too tight for a while. I was losing weight well, with Oneder land in my reach. I kept telling myself that once I lost enough weight the fill would feel looser and I would be fine.Riding it out was a bad bad idea. After a while I started to have difficulty eating solid Protein and turned to mushies. Which caused a small weight gain (5 lbs) but I quickly re- lost that weight by exercising more. I really became concerned when I started to have bad reflux and was coughing up acid at night. At which point I finally came to my senses, realized the damage that I could be doing my stomach and my band and went to the doctor. I needed a complete unfill, but thankfully didn't cause any lasting damage. So now I am waiting for my stomach to heal and to begin the process of finding the sweet spot. I have regained about 15 lbs and weigh as much as I did back in July 08 (7 months ago) when I got the fill that put me over the top. So from this experience I broke even and I consider myself to be very fortunate that I am able to keep my band. If I had gone for a slight unfill at any of the initial signs of discomfort instead of being stubborn I probably would have continued to lose even if it was more gradual. I am immensly frustrated with myself and my all or nothing mentality. Here endeth the lesson
  9. i just got home and stepped on the scale to see a 15 lb weight gain how can this be?

  12. I am almost 5 years out from surgery. I lost around 155 pounds and kept it off for about 3.5 years. But in the past 1.5 years, I have suffered from depression and started drinking alcohol excessively ( I typically would have ate food excessively in the past). In the past I could have several drinks and be fine; however post surgery the side effects were much more severe (depression, a feeling of real dependency, blacking out suddenly with no recollection of where the cutoff point would be i.e. 2 drinks now was just as strong as drinking 5) The alcohol goes so quickly into your system that it is a real danger if not properly monitored. Although my eating habits didn't change, without daily exercise and with the added calories of excessive alcohol consumption, I regained around 60 pounds. In addition to the weight gain I have struggled with the affects of alcohol dependency, which I never had experienced before. As VSG patients we were all cautioned on drinking and how it affects us differently after surgery. I didn't really take heed to those warnings until it had become a problem for me. I am working on it daily now and also am struggling to lose the weight all over again, which feels pretty much like as difficult as it had been prior to surgery. I think this is not talked about enough and I'm sure I am not the only VSG patient who has experienced this. As a community being open with one another, and as individual seeking out help earlier, I probably wouldn't be struggling with these 60 pounds now. Anyone who's been through it should reach out sooner than later. Not only have I suffered from this issue, I have had to deal with the fact that I messed up my own progress and success and now have to deal with the ramifications of starting all over again so to speak. This I can say for certain, staying in a support group and dealing with your issues is imperative to continued success in this journey. I'm not sure if I'll loose all of the 60 I've regained again, but I am willing to fight the battle to do this all over again and to warn others of how dangerous alcohol consumption is for us post surgery!
  13. I have regained two pounds in the past week. I sure hope its just Water weight gain. I went out of town for the holiday. I returned on the 26th and weighed in for the first time in a week and was so happy with my weight loss. Well yesterday I weighed 2 lbs more than I did a week ago. Not good and I want to eat all the time.
  14. So just as an update, I did see my team today. They were concerned by the weight gain (even though I've been losing since Metformin), so they put me on a new medication saying they wanted me under my starting weight. Here's hoping that it works!
  15. I have been seeing a dietician for a year and a half and through all this she has seen all the struggles I have had and I finally discussed weight loss surgery with her. I had decided years ago off and on to get it, but always thought I could lose it myself. Of course I did but you know how that rolls. Anyhow she was very skeptical at first but she decided to do some studies on it and to my surprise she decided to support me on my decision. This dietician works for the VA whom I am going thru for all this so we decided to get the ball rolling. She clearly has 1 1/2 yrs of records for my weight loss and weight gains. I wanted to learn how to eat healthy and not go on the all or nothing plan. I lost 32lbs which clearly wasn't fast enough for me but then again I was not dieting like I was use to doing and I really learned to live on a healthy plan. I went thru all the rig a moral with the drs, psy, therapists everything I had to do to clear me for surgery. My dietician told me she talked to the bariatric coordinator and she was going to call me. Well she did and everything sounded real good and all I had to do was wait for the hospital surgeons nurse to call and set everything up. Supposedly when it got as far as the hospital it was stopped, and I was told that they wanted 3 more months of record keeping and counselling before she would approve it. When I heard this I was livid, here I was waiting on my surgery date and then I was told a year and a half was not enough. I felt so much anger that I started eating like a crazy woman and gained all the weight back. I am trying so hard to get my head back in the game but I just don't know how and now my dietician and I are really struggling. I told her I cannot trust that if we do this another 3 mos that it will be enough for them. And can't they see how hard I worked to lose 32lbs in a year and a half? If I could have kept it off I would have? Now here I sit with a nontrusting bad attitude and can't wrap my head around the fact that I have to do this again. To me it is very much like losing it and gaining it back yo yo syndrome that I have been through all of my life. I know that I can't let this beat me because I want to get this done, but yet I can't get my frame of mind to do this again. I have waited all my 57yrs to be skinny and it just doesn't seem like it will ever happen. It pretty much destroyed my will to keep trying! So, I need help to get my head back in the game and get back on my eating plan. I know I am mad and distrusting of the VA but I am not doing this for them, I am doing this for me. How do I get myself to do this? any ideas? I just needed to get this out and I couldn't think of a better place than here! So thank you!

    weight gain

In the last 10 months I went from a size 6 to a size 17. I went from my goal weight of 135 up to 180. I redid the protein shakes like you do before the surgery and the 1st time I lost nothing, 2nd time I gained 4pounds. I am unable to vomit since my surgery in June 2012. I have a constant pain right below my sternum area. My diet did not change when I started gaining weight but I made it more strict. I get nauseated a lot but of course can't vomit and that pain increases terribly for up to 5 hours the longest. I moved to a different state about 8 months ago and I am still waiting for my records to get here so I can be seen. I have sent for them 4 times and my PCP lost them every time but this last time I asked them to be sent to the gastric office. Has anybody ever went from sleeve to bypass? Or has anyone had my issues? I am so frustrated and sad that this is happening to me. Any suggestions? Thanks Kari

    Weight Gain.

I finally got the nerve to weigh today. 239lbs. Thats early AM while I was running on empty after a workout so I know it would be more under normal conditions. I had gone down to 226lbs before. So don't think you cant gain folks. 13lbs is no joke. I have my work cut out for me I see. I will keep u informed. I'm planning a active weekend for sure and to watch the diet. I can simply eat more than I should I may schedule an appt. with the Doc. I will use you all as leverage. I will report my losses here and I promise they will come quickly........
  19. I have a stretched pouch,, and have been UNFILLED FOR 2, GOING ON 3 MONTHS.. I WENT today for a fill and Dr. said I am still stretched, but NOT SLIPPED>..So I am just going to stay unfilled and really watch what I eat so I dont gain any more weight.. I will take some weight gain over ANOTHER SLIPPED BAND, MY COST TO FIX A SLIPPED BAND IS 5000. I am a happy camper today
  20. I was scheduled for plastic surgery last week, but had to postpone. Now, I'm questioning my decision to have surgery, mainly because I'm worried about gaining weight during recuperation because of inactivity and boredom, and I'm worried about getting off track with exercise, which is a huge priority for me. Can those of you who've gone through this already please share your experiences regarding weight gain (or loss) following plastics? Thanks! The choices I'm listing in the poll are: **I lost weight following plastic surgery. **I temporarily gained weight due to swelling, but lost it within 2-3 months after surgery. **I gained weight after surgery, and I'm still struggling to get it back off, but it was still worth it. **If I had to do it over, I'd skip plastics because of the re-gain. **Other (please explain) Edit to add: forgot to allow for a "have not had plastics" option. Please select "Other", if you'd like to participate in the poll, but have not had plastics. Thanks for your help with this poll! Tami

    Weight Loss Question

For me the losing is sorta based on momentum. I was on a pretty good pace going into the surgery.....and was amazed at the amount of weight gain that occurred during the hospital stay.....it flushed out quickly and things really amped up in the weeks ahead. I'm guessing that it'll take you a couple weeks and things will kick into gear for you, too.
  22. My name is Sharon and my surgery is in two weeks. I had a very easy insurance approval process and extensive pre-op testing. I was never over weight until the past five years and in that time I was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, hypertension, liver disease, gout, etc. My weight increased over 100 pounds in five years. I am excited to continue this journey and get back to being able to recognize my self when I look in the mirror. I want to do the things I did before the illnesses and weight gain, like walking, playing basketball, playing with my little ones, walking my dogs.......I am going to need encouragement and support from people that understand what I am going thru, that is wy I sought out a forum to join. I hope to eventually be able to pay it forward and help someone else!
  23. I am officially in the 2-teens! Goodbye 220s! I won't miss you. I haven't been below 220 since junior high, or at least freshman in high school. I can't be too sure though because I never weighed myself. I'm basically going off of clothes that I've saved and how they fit, even though I've grown several inches since then so naturally my BMI is going to change. I tried on clothes I've been saving since before my rapid weight gain, and some fit and some were too big! I don't need to shop for bottoms now because I've dug out 3 pairs of shorts, 4 pairs of capris, and 2 pairs of pants. All I need now are shirts that don't look like tents on me, lol. Even at my heaviest, I had pretty good blood pressure. It averaged about 110-115 over 70-75. In an earlier post of mine, I was worried that my bp seemed to be higher than it used to be, even though I've lost 70 pounds since my highest weight. Donated blood today and my bp read 100 over 70! I used to have dimples on my lower back, one on either side of my spine, and they have returned! Before, my fat "filled them up" and now they're back. I can now see a slight indentation above my collarbone. If I shrug my shoulders, I can see my collarbone clearly! I work in a movie theater and one of my jobs requires me to go up and down stairs all day. I don't get out of breath anymore. My ticker starts the day of surgery, but from my highest I am halfway to goal! 70 pounds down, 70 to go!

    Maybe answer to stalls

I had hysterectomy in 1997 and that is when I gained all my weight. Since surgery I tried my hormone shot one time and I hit a stall when I did. So I havent took it anymore. So as far as weight loss around the time of monthly all I seen was weight gain after complete hysterectomy

    Gaining weight before surgery

I think the biggest concern would be that if there is weight gain prior to surgery the doctors may be concerned about your commitment to the whole process. Eating habits must change and the surgery alone will not fix weight issues. It's not a magic bullet, we must reform our entire relationship with food for long term success.
