    Sleeves 5/1

How are you doing today? Lap band 2009 Sw 200/lw 161/cw 214 Sleeve revision booked 17 May
  3. That's what I've been hearing, a lovely woman I met yesterday told me that, with the sleeve it's a lot easier to gain all the weight back, and I'm not looking at this as a short term goal. I want to be realistic and I want to keep the weight off. I know I'm going to have to work, just like you said I don't want to have a revision. Is it a good idea to ask if they could remove my gallbladder? I know some people do good on the sleeve, but me I know my weakness which is sweets and fats (been cutting it out). I don't want to be an idiot and see the progress, and end up slipping. Sent from my LGLS770 using Tapatalk
  4. Hi I'm new here currently have an emptied lap band due to complications and I've been offered a sleeve to replace it may be done in one go depending on the scar tissue as to wether I have to wait for a second surgery. Has anyone else here had a revision from band to sleeve and how was your experience ? Does it work are there many cons ? I may have to wait until November to get the revision done so I am trying to get some knowledge about it beforehand any advisee would be great thank you
  5. Hi. I posted before about being nervous and my wife being worried. I had some anxiety about this a few weeks back. Fairly calm this week. 2 day to surgery. My wife asked if I'm sure. Currently I'm 10 lbs from lowest band weight at 248. Was 300 when banded. Its hard to get excited as band is empty no issues but starving on this pre-op diet and this is what it takes to start loosing and I know without something it's impossible to keep off. I have done ok with the band but so many issues non with it empty. Guess I'm looking for some encouragement. At 6'. 248 your acceptable. But with bad knees and family history of diabetes i know getting thinner will help. Anyone else revised when close to lowest band weight and no longer morbidly obese
  6. Just playing devil's advocate, would your surgeon go for a sleeve first, then finish the switch later if you needed it still? Granted, the revision isn't going to lose as much as the virgin procedure, but you could have a plan like.. if you start regaining and get to 30lbs that you'll do the revision then.

Did anyone here not need this (yet)?

This! I tried everything before surgery. Weight Watchers, South Beach, Atkins, DASH, adding cardio, weights, and eventually tried to practice mindful eating. All of these worked, for a few months. But then my biology would win and I'd start overeating. It's astounding the lengths our bodies will go to keep us fat. I chose the lap band for a variety of reasons: first, it was the lowest risk of major complications (albeit highest in minor complications but the pros outweighed the cons in my opinion). I have a 2 year old and I was terrified of leaving him without one parent if I had a fatal complication. Second, it was the least extreme option. I started with 160 pounds of excess weight and yes, that is a lot, but like you I was otherwise healthy and felt good but I knew I was running on borrowed time (someone else mentioned that too). I know I have to lose weight to live a healthy life and I wanted to try something that didn't completely alter my anatomy. I also like that it's adjustable (I can get a fill if I "get used to" the restriction I have now) or I can have all the fluid removed if there was a medical emergency. It works great for me. Losing weight nice and steady again after my recent fill and my hunger is greatly diminished. It's a great tool for folks who are volume eaters and like ALL foods and not just carbs. I always ate a balanced diet before surgery (lots of fresh produce, protein, healthy fats, complex carbs, and also plenty of treats). It's just that I ate way too much. Big platters of food and not the little salad plate I eat off of now. I would also urge you to consider a second opinion. My third (and final) reason for choosing a lap band is feeling secure in the knowledge that I can get a revision in the future if necessary. Selecting the least extreme option gives me choices for the future in case the band eventually fails. I'd probably do the VSG next if I had to have my band removed. But yes, DS is the "nuclear option" of WLS so I would reconsider it, personally.

I did check and they revised the medical policy G-24 for gastric sleeve on December 2016 and they No Longer require the 6 month supervised diet.

No one that responded actually read what OP wrote, she even bolded her question and still ... A bunch of generic responses about WLS not her specific surgery which is what she asked about. @jessgnc I think the DS is extreme to lose 130 pounds. Why did they recommend DS and not the Sleeve? My Dr didn't want to me as a young person to have to deal with a life time of malabsorption and the malabsorption with the DS is extreme, a lot more than RNY. So unless they havea good medical reason, not just that it has better weight loss, I would decline and ask for the sleeve or switch Drs. ETA: Yes, DS is definitely the nuke option. I got the sleeve knowing if I didn't lose enough with it, I had a lot more to lose than you, that I could get the DS down the road. If I regained in my 50s or 60s, I could revise to DS down the road. If you go this route, later down the road, you have no where else to go, this is it. I don't believe revisions are the solution to WLS regain, but if you go down this path, this is your one shot. I've lost over 180 pounds with my Sleeve. I don't see DS in my future.
  10. I also had the revision from sleeve to RNY. you won't lose weight like you did after your first surgery. i was told i'd lose some but not a lot like i did before and that has been the case. At first it felt like i had no restriction but as time went by the restriction came back. Give yourself some time, you are still recovering from surgery. Keep doing the diet and the weifht will come out.

    Gastric bypass 2008

Some Drs in Mexico will bypass more of your intestine, and some will tighten your pouch. You are better off just eating dense protein than risking another surgery when you probably have scar tissue from the last one. Look at this Lady's YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_ZLTY6f9v_YrH7FqVUn7Mw You can't really revise from RNY, not safely anyway. RNY is a one shot thing. This lady has revised and tried to revise with nothing but problems. She always talks about revisions but doesn't focus much on food, well not as much as she should have.
  12. Unfortunately, no amount of revisions will work if your head isn't in the game. You'll just end up in the same place. Have you thought about the reasons WHY you sabotage yourself to not become successful? Would counseling help? I wouldn't consider a revision to bypass until you feel you're emotionally ready to change your lifestyle to ensure that this surgery is successful. Otherwise, I think a revision to bypass would be a good option for you. The sleeve isn't for everyone, and some people need the additional help the malabsorbtion offers with the bypass. Also, take anyone's advice who chimes in that hasn't had regain with a grain of salt. They don't understand the struggle of being several years out and trying to get back on track and go back to basics. They all think the weight loss comes as easy as it did during the honeymoon period, and I'm here to say it absolutely doesn't. It's a whole different animal several years out. Our metabolisms, appetites, and capacity changes, making going back much harder. It can be done, but you're talking pre surgery effort at that point.
  13. My sleeve is scheduled for Thursday, the 4th. Very excited about that. I do have a question for those who have undergone the procedure. Is anyone on here a long term sleever? Meaning, if you've been sleeved for more than a few years. I'd love to hear how life has been treating you, and also give an insightful eye to those of use coming through the procedure. Some stuff I'd love to hear about are: health issues since having surgery (short or long term complications) diet and lifestyle revision surgeries (if needed) fitness routines impact on behavior/mood Anything would be really appreciated. Even if something isn't listed but you would like to provide some information, I really hope anyone here wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks again and very happy to be joining the sleeve club!

    Gastric bypass 2008

This is a normal phenomenon in gastric bypass patients. It is called intestinal adaptation. Over the years, the small intestine of a person with a gastric bypass adapts to the malabsorption by increasing villi height and absorbing more calories. Enhanced caloric absorption = Weight regain (if you eat crap) It should be noted that those who strictly adhere to the "protein first" dietary mantra do not regain, even after 15 or 20 years out. However, consumption of sliders (crackers, chips, popcorn, etc.) spells trouble. I met someone who had gastric bypass in 2002. In 2011, during prolonged immobilization after fracturing her ankle, she regained 25 pounds in 6 weeks by grazing on potato chips. The weight regain was quizzically rapid. She got back on track and lost the weight, but her diet today consists strictly of lean meats and veggies. My point: once intestinal adaptation has occurred, a revision will not help if you consume snacky slider foods.

    Gastric bypass 2008

There are a few minor tweaks that are commonly done to bypasses to try to improve things, like band over bypass or stoma tightening procedures, but they overall don't seem to have a great success record. The best results revisionwise is to revise to the DS (duodenal switch) but that's a complex procedure for which maybe a half dozen or so surgeons around the country are qualified - you are in luck if you are in California or the NY/NJ area as that's where most of them are, otherwise count on travelling for that solution.

@MissDonni I would just need a revision to my tummy tuck once I meet goal because I would have lost almost another 100 pounds and there will be more extra skin.

    NSV and SV!!

Congratulations!! You look amazing!! May I ask why you are having a revision surgery?
  21. I did not have a revision but with RNY it took until I started eating dense foods around week 6 (chicken, beef, etc) for me to feel the fullness.
  22. I would call the radiology dept., just to set your mind at ease. I'm glad your recovery is going so well! Revisions do tend to lose less weight, but you are mostly just in the 3 week stall for now.
  23. Soooo....I *supposedly* had revision from sleeve to bypass on April 3rd. I started my post op week 5 yesterday. I have only lost 13lbs. I have no restriction and can eat anything. I can chug liquids...no problem. My sleeve had developed into a hiatal hernia and created a pouch that the dr removed. Aside from the pain from the incisions and sutured muscles, I feel nothing. I have asked the dr repeatedly was he sure that he did the bypass and he said yes. I am staying under 1000 calories, low carbs and getting in my protein. My liquids are at about 55oz. I just looked at my Upper GI report from after surgery and I am thinking about calling the radiology dept to confirm that I did indeed have gastric bypass. I have no dumping, no nausea...nothing. My weight has been at the same weight since week 2 post op. It fluctuates daily: 1lb lost one day, 3lb gain the next day, etc. Ireakky just feel like I am on a diet. All of this for nothing!!
  24. I am one week post revision surgery and have felt I need to concentrate on taking deep breaths throughout the day..... in hospital I had a spiroball to use every fifteen minutes. You're not alone on this ...... good luck
