  1. Had a Dr.s appointment and was expecting a weight gain after all the holiday eating, but the scale showed me down 3 lbs from my last visit. Happy!

  2. Yay no weight gain over the Holidays.

  3. Been away for a bit - went out of town the beginning of August and since then have been struggling with depressive episodes so all I do is lay around and watch YouTube lol. However, I had my diet visit today and it went well. I lost 4.6 lbs over the last month, which is all right! I have an appointment next week with a psych doc from my therapist's practice and we are going to discuss possibly starting Wellbutrin to help with anxiety and depression. It has some slight appetite suppressant qualities (and the NP today said it's also used for smoking cessation) so it would be a good fit compared to some medicines that might increase hunger/weight gain. So... overall, I'm coping. School starts next week and getting back into that routine will be a blessing. Thank you for reading & have a great week!

FYI I don't smoke - just realized the way I worded it could have implied that I do. I just thought it was interesting that it can suppress appetite and cravings, including nicotine cravings.

  5. So it's been a while since I posted - but progress has been amazing.

My VSG was 5/1/17.  I dropped to 220lbs and stayed there for some time.  This was a huge win for me - so I decided to take the next step and I met with an amazing plastic surgeon who helped me with the next step - excess skin removal.  There were three things that needed to be addressed 1) abdominal hernia's 2) panniculectomy and a 3) abdominoplasty.

First, talk to your plastic surgeon - I spoke with several, and these are expensive procedures - but I finally found a surgeon that advised me that the panniculectomy could be covered by health insurance - and it was - saving me nearly $5000.  Overall I still paid $7k out of pocket - but way better than the $12 - $14k that I had been quoted by others.

I had my reconstructive surgery 1 month ago - the surgeon removed 14lbs of skin and fat - and I dropped a few more pounds - and am now weighing in at 195.  My highest weight was 445lbs.  I way less than when I started high school - and I feel amazing - I am still recovering from the surgery because it is fairly invasive - so pics to follow - but what an amazing journey - I never thought I would get here.

My journey has been almost 14 years - a failed lap band, massive complications from that, weight gain and then struggling to gain the nerve to try again with the VSG - but my care team has been amazing - and I cannot thank them for giving me my life back.  At 52 I am the healthiest I have been since I was 14.

Please remember, the journey can be tough, the struggles are real, the pain is there - but it's your life you are fighting for - and there is nothing more important than that.

  6. Well, I buckled down and got the Mirena... these cramps are absolutely horrid, but supposedly won't last more than a couple days. In the mean time, I have to sit back and cross my fingers that the weight gain and skin issues many people report don't happen to me... :( Sometimes I really, really hate having PCOS.

I have a copper one. I love it. The first 6 months was a little uncomfortable but now I don't even know it is there

I got my first Mirena 5 months ago, and the cramps didn't last terribly long for me. While the first few days truly sucked, they progressively improved over about 2 weeks (please note that I am an absolute gynecological baby). Haven't noticed it since. It has, however, seemingly caused regular cycles to resume, which I'm hating. I miss my 1-2 super-light cycles per year...

I swear I haven't eaten anything I'm not supposed to. I did start exercising a few days ago, could that be it?

That was supposed to be 5 weeks, not 5 months.

  8. 4th day on pre-op diet and scale says 234 on 4/16. That is down 13 lbs. from last weigh in at my doctor's office with clothes on. I should have weighed in at home in bday suit on Sunday morning before starting diet but I knew I had been bad the last few weeks and hated to face what the reality of my actions would have been in weight gain. I am happy that I am 3lbs lighter than I was the last time I weighed myself at home about a month and 1/2 ago. I thank God for helping me to have a good start.

  13. Can someone help with my weight gain??? Please!! I had my sleeve surgery two and half years ago and for about two years I stayed the same weight...125 lbs. However about two months ago...my weight went up to 137 lbs and my frame is filling out more with muscle and not so boney. I have been exercising the same as I always have although honestly I have been snacking a bit but nothing out of control. My calorie intake is roughtly the same. the beginning....

I am being banded Jan. 28th 2011. I started out my marriage 124 lbs. and now I am 250!!! During the past 23 yrs. I have had 3 kids, 14 surgeries (most of them female) Fibromyalgia for the past 12 yrs and then 2 car accidents that ended in a neck fusion. Not that I can blame my weight gain all on these events but they did not help. I am looking forward to taking back control of my life again....
  15. 6 WEEKS POST OP, NO WEIGHT LOSS, NO WEIGHT GAIN...WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???

  16. Hi Bimbabe..WOW..Ur down 20 already? My surgery was Wednesday. It went pretty smoothly. Only problem is this freakin GAS! OMG! It was so bad when I came out of surgery I stood in the middle of the recovery room and bust out crying. It was aweful. Last time I got on the scale, it showed a weight gain of 3 pounds. WTH?! I'm assuming that's all the fluids they pumped in me using the IV. I'm a little sore, nothing the meds can't knock. I can't wait to see some weight come off..Anyway, KIT..TTYL

  17. I am feeling much better - I don't remember if I told you or not, but I have been having allergic reactions to something in the air. I break out in welts on any skin that is exposed. (So if I wear shorts, from the shorts to my toes will break out). I have been on steroids which cause weight gain - I think I am up 3 lbs, hopefully I can get it off quickly. That is so odd that you are from Conroe! Where do you live now? I work from home - my boss is a relationship guru - he and his wife write books, do speaking events and do Marriage Intensives for couples in Crisis (my part). I handle all of the people that need the crisis intervention. It is really a great job. I get to work from home - and do everything on the phone or through email. It is so nice.

  18. I have heard of Zumba, but I havent done too much research! Do something that you enjoy, and that you will maintain. I really dont like exercise, but I enjoy the results, and the attention is unbelievable! I am finally after three months looking forward to my daily walks...it is my time to do something for myself! Listen to everything that your doctor says, and take your time. We slowly let the weight add up, enjoy the journey as the weight decreases. Please address the emotional issues that aided in the weight gain...we tend to forget that there are some emotional behind the scenes unresolved issues for allowing ourselves to become overweight(my personal opinion).

  19. Hi Ladyinpink,

My weight gain started after my surgery, so I can't relate to such good loss numbers that you had in the beginning. It sounds to me that you're having problems with your reflux and once that is treated and you get back to your sweet spot again you should do fine. But I know how depressing it must be for you and probably scary too!

I hate to see someone who has done so well all this time get so down on herself because she's put back weight because of the unfill. There are a lot of people out there who have lost a lot of weight like you have and then started putting it back on for various reason.

I'm trying to get this social group moved to a more open area where more people can see it. But I'm thrilled you found it not many people have! Maybe if we can get it moved and you repost you'll be more likely to find others who have had similar problems to yours, thanks brandyII.

  23. I started my first diet when I was about 10. My parents still have the picture of me standing at the fridge, the Sunday night, before the diet started the next Monday morning. Why do All Diets have to start on a Monday? I have been on the uphill battle of Losing weight/gaining weight for about 29yrs now.

  24. Thinking about my appointment on the 30th with my LB surgeon. It's been 2 years of steroids, an accident in September and no exercise due to pain. I am disgusted with my weight gain and the vomiting from the band. Hoping a solution can be found before I give up.
