  1. Hey all, I am freaked out right now because in the last couple of weeks I have been losing ALOT of hair! I mean handfuls and throughout the day they drop here and there. What could be going on here? I think I am getting enough Protein every day and I drink at least a whole bottle of Vitamin Water every day. I don't get it and it's really freaking me out! More like getting depressing because the balding is showing right about my temples. Maybe a suggestion of some Vitamins or minerals I am missing and what kind to take if any? I hope someone out there can help me understand what might be going on and how to resolve it. My surgery was way back in MAY and now losing all my hair. :faint: Peace soon, Judy<!--colorc--><!--/colorc--><!--fontc--><!--/fontc--> <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_15617--> -------------------- <!--sizeo:3--><!--/sizeo--><!--coloro:#800080--><!--/coloro-->Highest Weight Ever! - 396lbs 6'1" <!--coloro:#0000FF--><!--/coloro-->Before Pre-op Diet<!--colorc--><!--/colorc--> - 375lbs <!--coloro:#0000FF--><!--/coloro-->Banding Date <!--colorc--><!--/colorc-->- 5/21/07 - Dr. Ortiz/Dr. Martinez - 352lbs <!--coloro:#0000FF--><!--/coloro-->First Fill - 7/21/07 <!--colorc--><!--/colorc--><!--coloro:#800080--><!--/coloro-->- 3.2cc<!--colorc--><!--/colorc--> <!--coloro:#0000FF--><!--/coloro-->Post-op weight as of 9/3/07 <!--colorc--><!--/colorc-->- 309bs<!--colorc--><!--/colorc--> <!--coloro:#2F4F4F--><!--/coloro-->Current weight loss - 66lbs gone!<!--colorc--><!--/colorc--><!--sizec--><!--/sizec-->

New Life started June 6, 2008

I was banded on 6-11 I have lost about the same as you with no fill yet. I have another follow appt on 8-7 and there was talk of a fill on that day. I too am a bit aprehnsive but I think it it's a little one I will be ok and not hating life too much. i already beat myself up enough as it is ahaha. Do you feel like what you have lost since surgery is a good amount? Or do you feel like you should have lost more by now being over 6 weeks out?
  3. I was also banded on the 24th I'm not to have anything other than "full liquids" at this stage... I could not even imagine having solid foods yet! If I were you, I'd make sure to check the post op diet plan and follow it... You don't wanna hurt yourself while healing. According to my plan it takes 3-4 weeks to be back on a regular diet. Take your time and best of luck!
  4. Everything went really well today. I feel great! I hope the next few weeks go just as smoothly.

Thanks for asking this - I am going to Cabo and Maui over the next two months and I wondered the same thing. I am planning on hitting the beds next week.

    Also a Newbie

Thank you, Devana. I went to the sites (whatever they're called) (I'm not computer literate, either) and they gave me some hope. I'm just back from my Doc and he's enthusiastic about it. So I'm going to a seminar next week to really learn about it, and hopefully get started on the regime ASAP. Many thanks to those who welcomed me, too. Julia :nervous

    Are the Peeps Calling?

Old habits can be hard to break. Throw in a sale and the temptation is fierce. Bariatric dietitian Elizabeth Anderson gives you some tips to stay strong. Perhaps you're not like me. Perhaps you're not a bargain diva or czar. Perhaps you don't have a sweet tooth, never have. Maybe you never went into a drug store to buy a greeting card and came out with 3 for 1 bags of candy? Perhaps you always share big bags of treats with others, never squandering it all for yourself... on the drive home! However, if ANY of this sounds a little like you. Read on. You're in good company. Easter is over but the candy is not. Are there marquees or sale flyers in your world advertising deep discounts on the leftover candy? It's tough to resist, especially if you have a history of overdoing it during the holidays. If the Peeps are literally calling your name consider the following: 1. There are No Peeps left! They were sold out a week before Easter. The only thing left is candy so icky, they're selling it for 70% off. (No doubt those licorice jelly beans.) 2. This isn't Christmas wrapping paper people. If you stash away these deeply discounted items, you might have lots of chubby vermin in your attic making making nests out of that holiday wrap 3. Splurge your bargain urge this weekend at one of the first yard sales of the year. Be honest with yourself. Is your weight up a little after the holiday? Maybe in a downward spiral of negative thought you've said to yourself, 'Buy the damn candy. What difference does it make? You're fat anyway?' I'm here to tell you it does make a difference because YOU matter!! There is no lasting love, lasting relaxation, lasting peace in the discounted candy. Yes, it soothes momentarily but at a very, very high price to your peace of mind, your confidence, your well-being. And those are the things I'm most interested in protecting. No two WLS clients are the same, but I'll bet most would agree that having bulk candy around the house or office is an invitation for stress. Save yourself the grief, drive on by the candy sales and aisles and discount bins. Focus on the fun springtime clothes, bike rides and outdoor walks you're now enjoying. Now that is something to PEEP about!
  8. I have my initial consultation next week and have been reading through all these posts. From what I read here most people seem to eat real low carb. Is this the way that everyone eats or that you are supposed to eat to see the best results? Thanks for the help!
  9. Phili like others have said a fill can take a week to kick in propley you are still new to the band and getting use to it.....its not going to be the same as before you had your fill the other night i had a real bad vomiting episode.....like im talking 6 times i just couldnt stop throwing up.....the reason i think it happened was because i cooked a roast and was nibbling on the punpkin which had alot of fat on it...the fat mustv blocked it up and thats why i threw up so many times cause i kept nibbling. I was worried after that and didnt eat for a day i just had liquids.....then 2 days later i started back on solids and havent had a problem since:) if you can keep your Water down you shouldnt be to tight maybe you didnt chew the food enuf without realising cause having a fill is different to having no fill if your still worried call Peter hope your feeling betta:)
  10. :help: Hi there, i was hoping some of you may be able to help me before i ring up my doctor and sound like a paranoid whinger! A week ago i got my first fill, now i dont know how much i got put in because he didnt tell me and i forgot to ask. now a few days later i am experiencing throwing up ( only once so far but feeling a second one coming on as i am writing this) and feel all weak and flustered. :cry Im also worried to eat now aswell as that was the case the first time when i threw up.I am still drinking water though. does anyone know what it may be. im not over eating and im not doing anything abnormal than what i have been since i had the band put in about 5 weeks ago!! :help:

Will the desire for food ever go away?

Well guys I am not to hungry. I know everyone want's to throw paper balls at me LOL. But I was at one point I was freaking starving but now more than 90 days out I am alrite. I am still losing I have lost 48-52 pounds so far (it fluxuates from day to day LOL stupid scale) I am losing hella inches though I have lost about a good 30 inches from my waist and 25 inches of other areas of my body so a total of 55 inches of my flabby a$$ in 90 days I am fine with but anyway back to the issue at hand I am not this perfect person that has been following band rules to a T but I do plan my meals during the week only cause I am at work all day and I am answering phones and filling prescriptions all day not alot of time to fantasize about food. But all hell here comes the weekend and I pig out. Damn sure not as bad as I ever did before I was banded but it's looks like alot to me now. Like last night I back a cake I ate 2 med size pieces. And I was like oh my god what have I done LOL. Then I said apples wait a min ... before you would eaten half of that cake one night and the other half the next night easy ... then on day 3 you would've been like dang where'd that cake go. But anyway it is all in the mind. I was like "head hunger" before I was banded and when I was first banded. Like these people are crazy LOL and now I see that it does exist. Some days I just crave my a$$ off others I think out how much of a pig I really was and all the food I just ate and ate and it makes me sick to my stomach to remember those moments and that shoos my a$$ away from the fridge immediately. Or when I cant help to contain the inner food addict in my I pop a 100 calorie snack or something that won't ruin my whole entire day. But I hope this helps. And protein, protein, and more protein. This is the only thing helping me so far cause I dont have a 100 percent restriction and I am on fill #3 ... 4th fill coming May 19th! SO I am praying, hoping, and wishing! Cause if I had the right restriction man I would so be on the ball! But lots of love sorry if I rambled a bit but I thought I told ya Apples is backkkkkkkk!

    Is my Lap Band working?

Hi Sandy, so glad you found this forum -- glad to have you here! I have learned so much from the people here -- far more than any information I've gotten through my surgeon and the materials I was given. One thing stands out -- all are protocols are different and so are our bodies. It's hard to know how long it may take to reach the green zone. I was banded in November (and on mushies day 8 by the way), then first fill about a month out. Some people have a partial fill at the time of surgery -- also called a primed band. A few people have band and Plication. I just had a regular Lapband procedure with no fill but I think my followup schedule is fairly aggressive -- 11 scheduled visits with the surgeon in the first year following surgery. This is when I realize how important that relationship is. My surgeon is great but the follow up appointments are a little wham bam thank you, ma'am. I've really followed other people's journeys to the green zone here on the forum so I'd know for myself when I am there. My surgeon describes the goal as being satisfied on a tennis ball sized portion of food for 4-5 hours. I'm so glad 2muchfun posted those you tube videos -- those were so helpful for me. I have had five fills and may be in the green zone. I won't know for a few weeks. But what I do know is my appetite has dimmed considerably and I feel able to distinguish between real hunger and old habits (evening grazing in my case). You will get there bit by bit. Follow up for fills is very, very important so make sure that is all set. And keep in touch here -- read, ask questions, ignore the occasional BS and keep thanking yourself for deciding to turn your life around. Best wishes to you!

    Is my Lap Band working?

yes the band is working and you will do fine...you were only banded a couple weeks ago.....the first 4 to 6 weeks you are healing and very swollen....TMF is right, go slow those video's offer great wisdom and knowledge. just because one has a band does not mean they will get stuck or they can eat as they did before...although some say different...for example: i have not ever been stuck and i am nearly 20 months post op....you will learn, eat slow, take small bites and enjoy eating and def eat Protein esp when truly hungry and not when one thinks they are. again, let your body heal up properly and now is a great time for you to get your mind into the game...as now you wil find as the swelling is going down, you may start to be hungry or hungrier...drink a lot, stay busy...eat to live and not live to eat anymore.. congrats on your recent surgery.

    Grandpa Frumpy

I'm back in Australia from my home in Indonesia for my niece's wedding next week and am staying at my son and daughter-in-law's home while I am there My Granddaughter - 5 years old - said to me last nite - "Grandpa, I can sit on your knee now cause your tummy is not there any more" Not to be outdone - 8 year old Grandson says - "Hey Grandpa - you're not fat any more" I asked if I was not fat then what was I He thinks for a minute and proudly announces that "You're not fat - you're FRUMPY" From henceforth I am now known as Grandpa Frumpy

    Pain. Possible Slip?

You said it's after your last fill....so maybe it's too tight? As you probably know, for whatever reason it can happen several weeks after the actual fill. Sorry you lost your job, but if you can't keep anything down you need to go to your doctor.

    Nicotine test?

they only nicotine tests that I have had (for a biometric screening at work) was with a swab in your mouth that you have to suck on until it turns blue. They then send it off and reported the results back some weeks later.

    Nicotine test?

It's usually a urine test and can take 1-2 weeks.
  20. I was sleeved on august 18th and i have lost 26lbs. But i have been stuck since the 30th.. i haven't lost anyrhing since then and it's driving me crazy! I get in as much protein as possible. Stalled for 2 weeks!

Stalls are quite normal, more prevalent for gals, but happen to guys too. Just this week - and I am 5+ months post op - I encountered a stall. For some reason, my weight stuck at a number, then all of a sudden, I was back to losing. Each person is different, but this does happen. Keep ur head held high -RC-
  22. I didn't go on liquids 2 weeks out so don't think it should impact surgery date but for sure, you can't cheat at all for 2 days out! The other advise is very good. I struggle with wanting food not for coping but because I am a huge foodie and travel all over the world for work and eating different foods was such an exciting thing for me so I had to come to terms with the lifestyle change. Good luck!

    Liquid In...

Yup, what MinaT said. I also decided water/Gatorade on the day before surgery as I had done for previous procedures. For me, pain meds really constipate me so the last thing I wanted was to have that issue after stomach surgery. I don't know if it helped/hurt me, but, as others have mentioned, it was at least a week before I had my first BM and then needed Milk of Magnesia to keep everything moving. Good luck on your big day and keep us posted
  24. Day 2 of my liquid diet was like that. Luckily for me though, my program only required 3 days of the clear liquid diet immediately prior to surgery. Since you still have over a week to go, if it doesn't slow down I'd call your surgeon just like Chelly suggested.
  25. Do you get stuck and pb any? I would think your fine. I would say you need more fill is what it sounds like too me. I usually can eat 1/2 cup or a little more and then usually I'll start hiccuping and know I'm done. My doctor leaves it up to me as far as when I need fills I can get them every two weeks and he usually asks me how much I want. Keep us informed on how your doing and good luck. Wish I could be of more help.
