  1. I am right behind you, I had my surgery April 27th. I am so obsessed with the scale. In December I was 265 and am down to 234. So everyday since I've been home I've dragged out my 20 yr old Health-O-Meter and stepped on looking for miracles. The first week after surgery I was getting on 2 times a day.. Woo Hoo, losing every-time. However in the past 3 days I have not only not lost anything but much to my horror, I gained 2lbs. God only knows how that is possible when practically nothing is going in. The good news though is that today it is gone again. I really have to make an effort to stay off that beast. Not only does it weigh 10 lbs and is a major pain the ass to drag out, but it's not doing anything for my mental health. I am driving myself crazy. I have decided that I'm only going to get on once a day. Wish me Luck
  2. you may want to stop by your local thrift store.... You would be amazed how cheap clothes are and plus sizes seem to be aplenty.... I donated 21 bags to them this year. I am sure others have as well. Congrats on your weight loss.

    Calories Per Day???

I am thinking 800 is going to be to little and our bodies will go into starvation mode and we wont keep losing. I have been trying to search and find out the right answer. I know its all according to your weight age height etc... I did find a forumal for it here the other day and it actually came out to being close to what myfitnesspal says i should be getting.

    Cashew Chicken

Between my food processor, my electric skillet, and my tiny crock pot, I rarely turn on the stovetop anymore. It's amazing. I can't wait until DH comes home again just so I can cook "normal" meals. Now I remember why I lost so much weight when DH was in the Navy on sea duty. It's no fun to cook without an appreciative (and very large) appetite.

    Talking to parents

@@Kila2000 sorry you have had weight problems ALL your life i agree with @ that you must talk to your PCP first i wouldn't even broach the subject with your parents yet your doc might tell you in his professional opinion you are too young at this time for surgery he might try and get you some help with an expert in nutrition help/monitor your eating - giving you good solid advice other good suggestions/advice too you are great that you are trying to improve yourself, get healthier at your age knowing the problem is half the solution (not sure if that's the correct saying) you know you want/need to lose weight in some way so you are 1/2 way there!!!! many kids have been heavy all their lives i have heard there are "some" (few) people in their late teens having had the surgery some people in their 20's have had weight loss surgery most people are 30 and over when they have surgery eggggads that's pretty old i was 57 years OLD when i had surgery!! many others were also my age or a little older many people (including myself),wished they had surgery many many years ago hope you are enjoying your summer vacation back to school next month my grand-daughter is also 14 she will be entering the 8th grade in september you too?? best of luck good wishes and hugggs being sent your way kathy

    Crazy Scales!

Congratulations on your amazing success! It's crazy, but some people actually do need more calories to lose. When you have too little calories your metabolism gets sluggish but too many calories and you won't lose. It's a tricky thing to find that perfect middle ground. I actually had to increase my calories from 900-1000 daily to 1000-1200 daily because I just wasn't losing. When I increased the calories, the weight came off a lot faster. Perhaps your body needs a little more than your usual 1000 calories a day? Just a thought. Best wishes!

    5 day pouch test

I've done some research and from what I have read a lot of WLS patients use this 5 day pouch test to get back on track if they get hooked back on bad eating habits. From what I read, it's 2 days of liquids, high Protein shakes/drinks, broth and etc. Then 2 days of soft Proteins, then day 5 solid protein. I haven't had to do this pouch test, but I could see the benefits doing it down the road if I get way off track and stop losing, or start gaining weight from eating the wrong foods.
  10. hey everyone, so i have a question for those with tricare.for the past month ive done all the little test and evaluations that my PCM has asked for. this tuesday i meet with my PCM to get the referral to the surgeon. so my question is,has anyone's PCM not given them the refferal after telling them they would if you saw the shrink and nutritionist? my shrink says i should expect a extended supervised diet but i CANT lose any weight yet. in fact i had to gain 5! i guess im just nervous but i would really like some feed back from those with experience with this. thanks everyone.

    Help!!!!

I just had a 0.5cc unfill. So I hear your anxiety. All we can do is count on our good habits that we have developed to keep us moving forward. Don't concentrate on the scale. Our focus should be on our health. How is your blood pressure? Your sugar? Your cholesterol? There are other methods of measuring success. Being banded is a lifetime journey to make our health better. It is NOT just about the scale. Yes, we want the weight gone, and we want it gone yesterday, but that isn't always going to happen. This is a marathon, not a sprint. It is time to change your battle plan for the time being. Adjust your outlook. As obese people, we ALWAYS fear regain. Hasn't it happened every other time we've gone on a diet? We don't exactly have track records of success to help calm us down. But we didn't have our bands to help us in the long run. Over the course of your lifetime, Augsut 3, or 3 weeks, is miniscule. You will get through it. After my unfill, I was able to schedule a refill for July 16, now I have to travel for work that week, so I have to reschedule..ugh... I REALLY am right there with you!
  12. Hi I am 15 days out and walking around the neighborhood and doing quite a bit of mall walking. But I am wanting to get back into the gym. I see my Dr on Thursday so I will ask too. But I am curious when did you go back to the gym? I just want to walk on the treadmill, elliptical and bike. No weights for 6 weeks I was told. I want to work my way back up to running again and figure out the whole hydration thing while sipping and running. I think it might be hard. I am down 32 lbs but I want to get the ball rolling even faster and hope going back to the gym will help. Thanks, Michelle

    Regain after band removal?

Emily like the others have said you're beating yourself up! You wouldn't have gotten the band in the first place if there wasn't a medical reason for needing it and since it was removed what you were left with was a much larger stomach again and one you were not used to having and intuitive eating is different when you go from being banded to having your old stomach back. I had the same issue after mine was removed and months later gained even more weight and revised to RNY and now have a true sense of intuitive eating as I have a real sense of fullness due to the size of my stomach and also my re-wiring. I'm not one who necessarily believes it takes "therapy" to deal with this physical problem. Good luck to you and I hope you have more choices out there for yourself. Nancy.

    Regain after band removal?

Hello Bandsters, It's been a really long time since i've been on this site. I had my lap band removed almost a year ago on 3/3/09. I was determined to be able to keep maintaining my weight loss and felt I had really changed my life and have been addressing my issues. About 3 months after the band came out I about lost my freaking mind. I was riddled with fear and the inevitble feeling that I was destined to gain ALL my weight back. My primary care doctor referred me to a Binge eating disorder outpatient treatment center locally and i've been going since July 2009. I'm working through some serious shit emotionally and learning how to eat intuitively and not diet. Since band removal a year ago and even while in treatment for Binge disorder, I have regained about 70 pounds total. I'm haivng a really hard time accepting that I couldn't keep the weight off myself. What's wrong with me? I had surgery and in treatment and I can't figure this shit out? I'm working on accepting the fact that I can't do it alone and they removed the band so my chances of regain are pretty high. I didn't want to be a statistic, I really thought I was better than that. But i'm not. I'm looking for some humility, some experinece and some hope from those of you who have had the band removed and who are surviving and struggling without it. I look forward to hearing from you. thanks,:cursing: Emily

    Week 10 Postop

Congrats on the total (and weekly) weight loss. I know I have to start adding exercise in! Our summer break starts this coming week so there is no excuse for not walking in the am or going to join the Y. Hopefully that will pick up the weight loss. I'm getting lots of compliments with my weight loss so far (nobody knows, except my husband, that I had WLS). Hopefully you are to. I am doing the Chobani with granola at lunch. I'm still doing protein shakes for breakfast because they are fast/easy and I can drink it while I am getting dressed. I usually supplement with a Atkins bar around 10 a.m.ish
  17. Hi, I have lost 8 pounds.. The jeans I have been wearing before surgery(they fit), I am not able to get them buttoned at the top...what gives? anyone else have this issue? Am I full of it? LOL Thanks
  18. This is my first post on this site. I was banded in June; I have lost 50 pounds so far. I work out quite a bit. I find the weight just doesn't come off for me unless I am at the gym 3 or more times a week. I do one hour classes; I average about 4 days there per week. For me, classes are ideal because I don't like to work out. The classes are always different and I won't leave or quit in the middle if I get tired. If I'm on a treadmill, I tend to not push myself very hard. At first, I found myself modifying quite a bit of what the instructor was doing, but now I can keep up pretty well. I have a skinny friend with a heartrate monitor thingy and she burns around 600 calories per class. I figure I'm probably doing close to the same...I'm bigger so I burn more than she does, but I'm also not quite able to do as much of the high impact stuff she does yet...
  19. Well, I'm still a work in progress, but I can tell you that I lost the first 35 pounds with very little exercise. I thought this was going to be a cakewalk! Then... well... it all came crashing to a stop. So I started riding my bike moderately but the weight loss was a slow crawl... Then I joined a gym and started doing Spin classes. Whoa! That's when I found out what intense exercise means... I thought I was going to die for the first 3 classes. Then it started getting easier and I had to push myself harder with more resistance. And now I do 5-7 spin classes a week, combined with a small amount of strength training. I went for my 5th fill last week and had gone from a standstill to losing 17 pounds... My fitness level is getting better every week and my heart rate recovery time is falling consistently. I'm with Jachut on this... You have to challenge yourself. If you walk 2 miles along the same path all the time - your body will become efficient at doing it and you'll no longer get the same result. The harder you work - the higher the result - plain and simple. Brad
  20. I had to exercise 6 days a week. I have a very slow metabolism and if I didn't exercise, there is no way I would have lost or kept losing. I did the stair master, walking/jogging on the treadmill, and the eliptical machine anywhere between 30-60 min per day, as well as weight training. Building muscle will make our bodies burn more calories even at rest.

    3 weeks Banded

Its been 3 weeks and I have to say that I am pleased with my band so far. The hardest part for me was the liquid stage but now that I am on the puree/mushie stage, which pretty much for me equals soups, fish and very soft veggies...life is great. Its so weird that although I have no fill yet, I can only eat small amounts and dont feel hungry all that often. Even this weekend, I was at a party and told myself that I would cheat and got a peice of fried chicken...after two bites and chewing for a million times...I decided that I wasnt hungry and no longer desired the chicken and put it down. Ohhh and the weight is starting to slowly come off... Things are on the up and up!

  23. Hi all, Just wondering what bypass peeps are eating 5 weeks out. Not sure if there is a thread / topic already. I know we each follow our doctors / nut's plans / advice but just wondered what people are doing and looking to share dietary plans / advice. My WLS journey was Band, Band to Sleeve, then Sleeve to Bypass. (Yep 3 ops!). Pre band weight - 136kg Weight at last revision (Bypass) on the 10th May 2016 - 103kg Weight today - 94.9kg Goal weight - 80kg Here's what I'm having each day this week : 630am - I have a 250ml glass of Water and my Multivitamin liquid, Biotin liquid, sublingual B12. 0730am - (On the way to work) 2 x calci-chews with vit D and a coffee (250ml) with fat free added Calcium milk and a stevia for sweetener. 1000am - At work around 10am I'll have 1 scrambled egg with a low fat slice of cheese in it (can do it in the microwave). 12pm - I'll have a super greens type drink (500ml) with chia seeds and konjac root powder added to thicken it a little and maybe a little flavour free Protein powder. 2pm - Pre made portion of pureed chicken breast with veggies (200ml) Then just water / tea / coffee until I'm home. A couple of coloxyl and Senna laxative tablets if I need them. 6pm - Another pre made pureed chicken breast with veggies (200ml) 8pm - Half an Optifast lemon water desert (love them!) with sugar free jelly. (200ml) Then just tea and water until bed time. Might chuck a bit of benefibre in if I feel like it. Sometimes if I'm hungry anywhere in between the above I'll add up to 1 Protein shake / optifast Soup with konjac root powder to thicken a little. I find adding a small amount of the konjac root powder, just thickens liquidy type drinks ever so slightly increase my satiety. Also I'm 8 weeks of the cigarettes and no booze for ages :-( lol. I'm planning on a glass of wine or maybe 2 as a treat when I get to 90kg though :-) Does anyone else use Konjac root? Looking forward to your replies :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
