I went shopping over the weekend with my 12 year old daughter and I tried on a coat at Delia'a (for girls) and it fit! I did not buy it but my daughter was so proud of me that it felt great. My NSV was not about the coat but how my daughter reacted and said "that is so cool Mom, now we can shop together"! It felt so great to see the look on her face! I love my band!

So I'm pre-band(7 weeks away!!!), but I have been losing weight before surgery(low carb) and would like to share a NSV from that! Speaking of body parts...I have collarbones! Always did, but now they actually sorta stick out! Looking forward to many more NSVs with the band!

My best NSV was today. I left my jackets last night, and didn't have one to wear this morning. My husband threw me his (which has always barely gotten around my shoulders) and it fit PERFECTLY. I told him he never gets it back!

So... I finally have some NSV's. - Buddy at work yesterday tells me that there is a big difference since he started here. He started 2 days before my Sx, he didn't even see me at my max weight. - I had to buy new jeans the other day. Size 48 instead of 54! - Speaking of jeans... I got into some old 46 waist jeans!!! Still a tad too tight though - I just realized this morning that I have not had PIZZA in over a month! Ya know what? I don't miss that feeling of eating an entire large pizza in one sitting! And what happens the next day.

Last night while DH was watching the play off game, I went to our bedroom to watch something I wanted to on the TV in there. It got a little chilly, so I grabbed a small throw I use to cover the grandbabies when they sleep on my bed, and covered up. When the game ended he come in to the room, he walked in the door, and stopped, and smiled, and told me I looked little bitty in that bed (King size----of course!) As I lay there, I realized, I did in fact take up very little space on that bed as compared to before, and I fit under that little blanket with some to tuck in! So in the night I thought about it, and suddenly realized, I now simply roll over, in one fluid motion. Used to be a series of grunts, and rolls, and shifts, and more settling----it took a lot to turn me over!!! Now it is a non issue! Not the type of NSV's usually associated with bed------but they made me happy!!! Kat

Awesome NSV's!!!! I actually noticed the other day that my fingers had gotten skinnier when i went to try on one of my moms rings that previously only fit my pinky... It now my middle finger and thumb with comfort (and a bit loose) and to big on the others.

It's been a bad habit 2 weeks; not the best food choices, some WRONG choices, etc. Had TOM last week. Anyway, I 'knew' that I was up on the scale. So I stayed away. Big chicken that I am. Dad saw me yesterday and said "So...how are you feeling? How is the weightloss?" Told him I haven't weighed. But his asking me, made me think "Do I LOOK fatter?" So this a.m., I weighed. Down another 1.5. I coudln't believe it. So, my NSV was weighing less than I thought I would!!!

Great thread! A few NSV's for me: At the movies, my butt doesn't squish to touch both sides of the seat. :smellie: My car's steering wheel has an automatic feature that brings wheel closer to you, and lowers it to a preset level when you put the key in the ignition. I always had it swet to extend the furthest, and lower the most. Before, it touched my stomach when in place. Now there is a good 6 inches of space between the wheel & my tummy. :boink: Recently re-committed myself to the gym. Found out it takes MUCH longer to reach THR, and that I can bump up the speed to a much higher number, with very little heavy breathing. Enjoying more frequent heavy breathing (if you catch my drift)! Sorry, just had to add that...

A NSV - that is a large size "pink" sweatshirt - bought it from Victoria's Secret in a local mall. A friend insisted I try it on, and said she thought I maybe didn't really understand how much I have lost. It fit! OMG it fit! What a wonderful feeling... -
100lb Mark SLOWLY Approaching

My stretch goal is to lose 100 lbs. I'm a year and six months out. I've been the same weight for a while now. If I don't gain and can extend myself more at the gym to make what I have look a bit better, I'll be thrilled. No reason to get hung up on a particular number. I would look at all the gains you've made with your health, wearing smaller sizes, or other NSVs. -
Congratulations on your weight loss! I had my bypass in May and I'm down 45 pounds from when I had the surgery. I just dug out a bunch of shorts in smaller sizes that I haven't fit into in years and was so excited that they fit. My own personal NSV was being able to get into a kayak without plopping down like Pooh Bear, ha, ha.

You are being too hard on yourself. There is no avg loss. As long as the scale is moving in the right direction you are doing well. Do not juice. Juicing only gives you the sugars from the veg and fruit since the Fiber is in the pulp that gets discarded. An easy veg to start with is chopped spinach. Easy on the tummy, a good source of Iron and Protein. Good to eat whether frozen or fresh. Try adding just a quarter cup with lunch or dinner. If you eat eggs, you can mix it into your eggs as well. Then branch out one veg at a time. Step away from the scale for a bit. Do not let it rule your life and make you crazy. Look for other Non-Scale Victories(NSV) take your measurements, look at how much farther you can walk, run, etc.... -

So from the beginning of this path towards and following VSG, one of things on my list that made me make the decision to invest in WLS was when I travelled by air that the meal tray no longer lay flat because my belly would get in the way. Travel is a big part of my job, so this was a constant embarassment for me. There is nothing more embarassing than a flight attendant handing you a meal to a tray that won't lay flat, and at first they just think it isn't fully deployed, then they realize oh no, the tray is stuck on her and the look on their face changes. Total humiliation, right? Not to mention always having to ask for an extension for the seat belt, but at least the flight attendants don't seem phased by that request. Well I am happy to share that today I flew for the first time since my surgery (it was exactly four weeks since surgery and 5 weeks since pre-op diet start - I have lost 31lbs since June 1st) when I boarded that flight I dread two things, fastening the seat belt and using the meal tray; NSV #1 - the seat belt fastened without an extension! it was tight but I was able to fasten it! NSV #2 - the below attached picture is a shot of the fulley deployed meal tray and my belly - it is a little blurry but the white solid mass is the tray and the black and white flowered area is my t-shirt - there was 2-3 inches between my belly and the tray which lay perfectly flat!! You know I have been saying that this first month and 30 lbs was just a drop in the bucket, that I would not start to see benefits for another 30-40 lbs( I have 145 lbs excess weight) - but I was wrong - even 30lbs makes a difference!- 16 replies

Whoop Whoop! I can't wait for that NSV after years of squeezing into seats with metal jabbing me everywhere. Isn't it funny how bathroom stalls seem to be bigger now?!

nothing really new going on with me since my last post...prom went well for my kiddo and graduation is in june! my mom who has no idea that i have had surgery will be here may 30...i have started sending her pics to prepare her for my subtle changes and she has noticed my face slimming. i have described to her my exercise routine and high protein diet as an explanation for my weight loss...i'm planning on telling her in person when she arrives...:/ i did start the couch25k treadmill version this week:) and i am finally on the upside of this cold...i'm thinking about having another small fill in the beginning of may to kick it up a notch...thinking i'll definitely make an afternoon appointment as i am tight in the mornings and probably have not been maximizing my fill potential by having my fills done in the morning... finally i wanted to share with you all my husbands wonderful progress. he was banded on 3-13-12 and is down 45 pounds:) this includes the preop diet that he went on with me, but wasn't required for him! he is not a slave to the scale as i am, but he has been staying focused on his nsv's! yay him! the scale still rules my world:(

@rs our kids still eat regularly but at least both of us are eating the same way. @Briswife15 Thanks! I’m very happy to have reached 49 but I can’t say I wasn’t a little salty when he hopped on the scale and had lost 68 but that’s always the case with men lol Because our weight loss will obviously slow soon, and it’s unpredictable when or how much, we’ve set all our month two goals as NSVs because I don’t want to set it on a weight loss speed that’s very unpredictable right now. -

Wow!!! You girls are all doing great!! Michelle - 70 lbs, awesome!! Kelly - 30 lbs to goal, wonderful!! Meggie - 45lbs, great job!! Life definitely does happen!! I can't believe it's been 8 weeks for us. I have lost 27 lbs since the surgery which I feel is kinda of slow but I also lost 43 lbs prior. I am very happy with a total of 70 lbs since February. I finally had to clean out my closet and get some smaller clothes, my 24's were literally falling off. I think my favorite NSV since the surgery happened on a recent business trip. I got on the plane and felt totally comfortable in that tiny little seat AND I had an extra 6 inches of seatbelt!! It was awesome!! Let's keep rockin' this sleeve girls.

You hit the nail on the head with your question about the size thing. I finally bought new clothes this past weekend. I was really wondering this too! (future reference if your ever in STL area and see a stressed mom shopping with 4 kids running in three carts in a department store stop and ask her if she wants help- IT IS ME!!!! I have never taken the kids anywhere where you had to go in to get carts new surprise and not so fun- moral I will shop with two and only two if I am by myself! I got mostly 14's but 2 sixteens and 3 twelves. bUT ALL LARGES (THOUGH i THINK A MEDIUM MIGHT HAVE FIT) So I am so confused (but the only pair of gap jeans I ever owned and fit - size 14 still can't even pull up past mid thigh (from 1989 or 90 my one skinny month) tHE VERY NICE LADY TOLD ME i HAVE PROBABLY NEVER HAVE WORN CLOTHES OR SHOES THAT FIT CORRECTLY AND i HAVE A WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE COMING. My new NSV was to go the Fox theater, have plenty of room in the chair and be able to comfortable cross my legs and not crowd dh or my neighbor!!! ANd BIG RIVER WAS AWESOME!!!! Though a co worker of DH recently go back after 4 months abroad for work and saw our new family photo and asked Eric if he got remarried. I think that was good! Anyways congratulations and have fun!!!

All I gotta say is HOLY MOLY!!!! I am so pleased with my progress to date. Went to my regular doc for a routine appt and everyone of the office staff remarked how much weight I had lost and that I looked GREAT. Even the doctor said "WOW!, you look great." Isn't that just the coolest thing? Here are my 8 month anniversary pics. Compare them to my Sept pics as I don't have a pic beyond that since now. I will include a before pic as well so you have some reference too.
