  1. Just started this sleeve journey. VERY sore right now but I am walking and sticking to the fluids and protein only diet for another 10 days. Looking forward to soft foods but really notice how much my life was wrapped up around food. Have to unlearn a lot of bad habits.
  2. Hubby had surgery 4/10 and I don't think he's getting enough vitamins and nutrients. He's always cold and tired also and realize it's normal. I get a Myers cocktail thru IV with glutathione and b12 shot bi-weekly for my chronic fatigue and swear by it. Wondering if anyone out there does this and if it's too soon for him.

    "VALENTINES DAY AND CHOCOLATES"

Happy Vday to you too Rosey! I havent eaten out yet although I think about it daily. Damn drive thru addiction! Youre mastering it all bit by bit. Keep it up! As for the guilt, forget about it. Give yourself permission to make less healthy choices once in a blue moon. 80/20 is what I live by. Live perfect 80% of the time and dont 20% of the time. I may amp that ratio up as it seems that I am currently doing great 90% of the time and 10% not but we have to allow the little flex for the human in us! Keep up the good work!

    Anyone with 14CC band....

yay! I'm so glad you all posted! I was banded 7/7/09 and today was my first fill...i have 5cc's! How's the restriction feel for you all? I know it's different person to person and I see that some of you have had 2-3 fills before getting this many...i'm hoping that this is good restriction for awhile for me... Also, how did you all feel the same day as the fill? When did you start feeling different? I'm just trying to gauge how i'm feeling. WHen I drank the Water in the office i noticed that it went down slower...not much, but a little different feeling. Now that it's been a few hours (10 to be exact) I'm starting to feel tighter...and i'm excited about that! Looking forward to hearing lots of responses here! :crying:

    Love/hate relationship.

There's a thread on here about taking the easy way out and how many people who have not had WLS or any type of weight problem see it as a shortcut. But for me personally, I almost feel like I took the hard way. Let me explain: I feel like with all of the fad diets, crazy exercise routines, weight-loss pills, "miracle" cures, weight-loss is even harder, even for the average person looking to lose 10-15lbs. While I do love my band and wouldn't trade it for the world, I almost feel like it sort of blinded me to the reality of healthy eating and nutrition. I hopped on the low carb band wagon really hard. I ate no fruit, no high carb veggies, was strict strict strict until about 3 months ago. During the first 6-7 months I lost amazingly, and I am glad that I rarely hit a long standing plateau, but at the same time I feel like I was almost put behind a mask; my brain went into this "food is evil; carbs are evil; high calorie foods are evil" way of thinking and now that my weight-loss is pretty much in a range I can deal with, it has been hell trying to break these thoughts. I never thought it would be hard to tell myself it's okay to eat carbs. It's okay to eat chocolate. I can eat anything I want. But the fact is that food is not evil. Food didn't make me fat. In my case, overindulging with little to no exercise made me fat. Yesterday I had an Oreo truffle; that's right. A bunch of freaking Oreos mixed with cream cheese and covered in white chocolate. I ate it; devoured more like it and then I felt an immediate sense of guilt. Why? Why does eating something sweet make me feel guilty? I'm not sure. But within a few minutes I came to my senses and realized that ONE truffle was not going to kill me. I was not going to gain 5lbs from it. It's funny how I've gone from being a food lover, to a food hater, and nowadays I am slowly, but surely, training my brain to realize that no food is bad. Nothing; none of it. And plenty of people on here will disagree, but I've allowed more "junk" food into my diet and I love it, but the sense of guilt still lingers. I can't wait until the day where I feel skinny, can eat whatever I want, and not second guess my choice.

If you do not have insurance to cover, there are many places to have this done. I know Mexico is a bit far and I would think a little scary, but there is a lady in Cincy that is cheaper than that. Just ask around on here, tons of self pay's under 10 grand. Most say they would do it again in a heartbeat.
  7. Hey everyone. I'm glad I found this app/site. I'm optimistically freakin' nervous. I love food! Don't we all? Hoping that I will be up to soft foods come Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, a Thanksgiving dinner would be my death row meal if I'm ever there (I hope not!). We'll get through the pre-op together. Look up OneLifetoSleeve on YouTube. I don't know this guy but he's been helpful and inspiring with his video blog. Take care!

    Fat girl googles

I recently bought some clothing that was super cheap in smaller sizes at a thrift store. I figured what my daughter didn't end up taking I would wash, and put away for when I lost more weight. I thought for the hell of it I would try on the med, from Kohls and see how far I had to go to get into those tops. I was floored when it fit, a Med fit. The bottoms are all still too small, I bought 8's and 10's. I know I have a way to go for those sizes, as I'm in a 14 now. But I don't see a med body in the mirror, I still see a plus sized woman. My mom will meet me somewhere and comment on how my clothes are hanging off me, and I have dressed myself convinced that I still need the XL, or the 16-18 tops. I finally had her come over and tell me what looked good and what was too large to pull off anymore. My local domestic violence shelter got a ton of clothing, and I don't have to second guess myself any longer when I'm getting dressed.

    Any Bandsters from Katy, TX?

  12. I do agree age plays a big role. I was a competitive athlete growing up and our capability to grow muscle is reduced as we get older. I'm now a woman in her 40's. I'm lucky that I have a naturally athletic/hour glass body shape without even trying. I'm currently training to hike half dome. I take strenuous 10 mile plus hikes on the weekends and try to fast pace walk 5-10 miles per day minimum. My body is lean and defined but the muscle mass just isn't what it used to be. On one hand I'm thrilled because I used to hate my legs when I was younger because my calve and thigh muscles would become so big and bulky! I'm thinking with the hard training I'm doing, I need to increase my protein intake. That's where coming on these boards and reading all of the posts are helpful to remind me of what I SHOULD be doing! They warned us about a honeymoon period! I am a pretty clean eater and am dedicated to my health and this process. Still, it becomes more challenging when you are once again capable of eating whatever you want!
  13. I've been reading a lot of posts on this board, books, and anything I can get my hands on. I have a BMI of 58 (pre 10% weight loss before surgery) and it has been mentioned that doctors won't band someone with my BMI, even if I lose my 10%. I have no health conditions and I want to get this weight off before I develop any issues. I don't want to have bypass surgery because of the risks. Anyone out there who can help?
  14. I totally understand- and I am in the middle of it on day 10. Know every day gets a little better- I can drink so much more easily now that those first few days and every little discomfort is worth it because of the mystifying way that my body, a slow loser always in the past, has somehow lost lost 25 pounds since I started the pre-op diet. I do think this is a hard, time, I wont sugar coat that- and I encourage you to have a nice long time with no stresses and the ability to kick back and be good to yourself. But this is the best thing I have done for myself along with the Water aerobics habit i can't wait t get back to.
  15. Well, not much is needed for post op other than a forward thinking state of mind during the 10 day liquid diet. Just remind yourself every day "this is only temporary." Get some Protein Shakes for it. I did strawberry myself. Congrats on the approval!
  16. Hi Everyone, I don't have craving, probably because I indulge in good foods on special occasions--like today Easter. I don't over eat, but I have a small amount of something that I am looking forward too and that satisfies my needs. So I never feel deprived. Carvings are driven by you mind, not actual hunger--remember I have talked about "head hunger" and that is just what a craving is too--head hunger. Craving are NOT caused by actual hunger. One way to get around a craving is call a friend and talk for awhile, or go for a walk or do something to take your mind off the craving. Distract you brain away from what it is trying to tell you. Your brain will try to sabotage you when it thinks it can. You have to be in control of what you are eating and THINKING. Hugs, Suzanne Sleeved 10/21/2008 Lost 105 pounds

    First Blog 11-18-08

My name is Nancy and I had the Lap-Band surgery 5 days ago. My physician is Dr Woodman of Memphis Tn. My starting weight was 323 when scheduling my surgery and I had to lose 13 lbs before he would do the surgery and only had 13 days to lose it. I succeeded and lost exactly 13 lbs. I had the surgery at 10am and was able to leave the hospital by 5:30 pm that evening for the 2 hr ride home. That night I can say was miserable and I got no sleep at all. I was in alot of pain and the pain medicine he prescribed me just wasnt lasting. Day 2 wasn't much better and I was regretting having the surgery. Day 3 I started to feel better and was able to get up and turn over without the aide of my loving and supportive husband. Day 5, today, I feel a bit weak and light headed but probably because I went out to the store today. I have 5 incisions and my belly is very very sore and tender. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel though and each day is getting better and better. I am hoping to begin exercising on my recumbent bicycle by next week. So far I have lost 10 lbs...since the surgery...5 days. I can say that I am not really hungry. I am on creamed soups now and of course pudding and jello. Today was my husband birthday so I made him a cake and a very nice meal. I didnt even lick the spoon! I was so proud of myself. I have a bad back so just standing prior to my surgery had me in alot of pain. I bought the exercise bicycle as my exercise since I cant walk for exercise. I am hoping and praying that once I lose the weight my back problems will improve. I am excited about this new journey and my goal is to lose half of my body weight.:willy_nilly:

Can anyone answer some questions for me???

Hi there, Well I was banded on 6/19 first thing in the morning. I went home that afternoon. I too am 32 however I only have 1 child and he is 4 yrs old. Honestly...I was useless for the first 3 days..slept most of the day. By day 5 I was back to work and have been since. Would I do it again...so far I would say Yes..don't get me wrong..I had my moments the week leading up to the surgery...*am I doing the right thing*, * I am volunteering to go "under"*, but it really wasn't that bad. Do I feel the band...no as far as I can tell...it just feels a little sore inside, but nothing that freaks me out or anything. I am prone to migraines...I haven't had one since the surgery however beforehand I check with my pharmacist to verify that my migraine meds could be crushed / cut...I take furicet. Also you can "you tube" lab band and follow peoples vids from beginning to end...that was what sealed the deal for me. Hope this helps...feel free to send me a friend request if you have anyother questions or concerns
  19. keep up the great work! I started ABOUT the same starting weight as you, and i'm now 10 wks out (tomorrow). i vividly remember hitting the ONe-derland mark, but stalled just before i got there. now the scale has been steadily moving nicely and this morning i hit the 180's! hang in there and work your program, it will happen!!
  20. Oct 12 update. Doing okay had some random sharp pains in the right hand side so started taking Tylenol again and it has improved. Had an issue with the incisions so went to back to surgeon and spoke to his pa. Turns out i was allergic to the glue..they removed all the glue and put steri strips on the open wounds. Still sooo itchy...trying not to scratch. I feel I can eat too much. I’m on the puréed stage and I ate 3 oz of beans and I know we shouldn’t eat more than 1.5 at a time. My weight loss has been slow. Most people Lose 10 lbs a week per my anecdotal research on this board. On oct 1 I weight 284 and today I weighed 277. Of course on Oct 2 I weight 294, lol. I will weight on Oct 15 which will be exactly 2 weeks. I’m happy with the loss, but really want one of these 10 lb weeks. Still really happy as I’m down 30 lbs from my high of 307 🙂 So far getting protein in no problem. Getting 64 oz of liquid a bit harder need to step it up......

    Miracle Burn???

Hi Everyone, I was looking into purchasing Miracle Burn to try to help expedite my weightloss. I have read that it contains Advantra Z and hoodia in it which helps you lose fat and suppress your appetite. It is supossed to not have that "jittery" caffeine effect but to help speed up your metabolism and help you burn fat faster. Supposed to be similar to the strength of ephedra but not bad for you, all natural. I am a bit skeptical of that though. Has anyone used any diet supplements that really helped control appetite and lose weight faster? I just don't want to waste my $. Any advice/insight is appreciated. Thanks guys. ~Liz~ banded 03/10/06 Dr.Ortiz 241/201/150 5'7''

    Emotional And Freaking Out

I was where you are now one year ago. I had just had a wonderful Christmas with family, and knew I would be facing surgery soon. I wondered if I would be around to see another Christmas - I was scared to undergo surgery and thought I would die young (relatively) if I didn't have it. Fast forward to now. I have been sleeved 10 months and am within 10 pounds of goal. I have lost a small person's worth of weight. I am SO MUCH healthier and feell SO MUCH better. And, I really enjoy being this size! Life is much better at a 10 - 12 petite than a 24W. Try to focus on the end goal. Don't let anything you can think or worry about keep you from focusing on your end goal. Anything you have to do, eat, not eat, start doing, stop doing or change is worth reaching your end goal. I wish you the best of luck on your journey.
  24. I ordered grilled shrimp during my preop diet and they lied it was shrimp scampi. I had to eat, so I tried to get the butter off in a napkin lol. Had nightmares about that buttered shrimp. Ask my husband, I sounded as if I had murdered someone by eating the shrimp, I planned a lot better after that with only. Few days left and I did still lose 10 pounds on the preop an my surgeon was pleased. Just a minor set back. Put it behind you and do what I did. Make sure you have no room for error the last few days lol
  25. Day 10 of my 2 week pre op diet. I cheated once on day 2, and I've been good since.. until today . My best friend is going through a divorce so I was at her house all day moving his stuff out. In 90 degree heat. I sweated and sweated and not matter how much water I drank I still felt so dizzy. We took the kids to Taco Bell and I had a freakin soft taco. I immediately felt horrible! I'm 4 days away!!! What's wrong it's me?! And even worse.. I contemplated making myself throw it up to relieve the guilt. I'm going to remain dedicated the next four days. But I'm upset that I ate knowing I shouldn't, and I'm also upset that I considered throwing it up. Maybe I need to see a counselor. Do they have counseled especially for food problems? I hope I didn't screw up my liver. I'm just so mad
