How Soon After Surgery Before I Can Exercise?

I was happy I was told I could go swimming 2 weeks post op. I am moving a lot around the water lately, yesterday I walked around the pool at least a dozen times. Dove underneath water tons of times. the only thing I felt was a small tiny tugging around my port area when I had to get out of the pool to climb the ladder, I was very careful, actually I really crawled up the ladder and just took my time, but let me tell you when you are wet climbing out of the water it feels like you weight 10 pounds heavier! blah! I spent 5 hours straight moving around the water and it felt good, .. no pressure, no pain. It felt really good to be in the water. I soooo love the water!!
  3. Hello all...i am feeling better these days .Down 42 lbs since surgery on 3/18/19. I had some stomach swelling on the right side of my stomach along the front that should have gone down after surgery but now since im slimming down the bulge is more pronounced. It doesn't hurt just looks like a large fatty know. I know this was the side where they cut through the muscle but i thought it would be healing more by now. When i pinch it or push on it it just feels like a large amount of subcutaneous fat that has collected in this one spot. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what did you do shrink this area?

    Mexico Bariatric Center

Oh and the drain tube was only 10 inches of tube inside of me. It felt interesting when he took it out I felt like I was loosing my breath. This place is spotless. They keep it extremely clean. The Air Conditioners will freeze you out. I've had to tell them to turn mine back off several times.
  5. I dressed in the same Halloween costume one year apart, just with a dress 10 sizes smaller. Sleeved 11/10/16 HW: 309 SW: 286 CW: 169 -140
  6. Two months after my surgery, I took a loved one to Mexico to get sleeved by the same surgeon. She had/has Sjogren's (and of course she disclosed it, etc.), but I don't recall it being a big issue. She has done well since the surgery and hasn't talked about needing to adjust her meds or anything. She doesn't really come to these boards, but I will circle back to this thread and give you some of her feedback in the next week or 10 days . Best wishes!

    time to go clothes shopping

That's awesome!!! Congrats I can't wait until I'm there. Maybe another 10 pounds and I'll get to buy some new stuff, too. It's an awesome problem to have, right? Instead of buying bigger clothes because what you have doesn't fit, you have to buy smaller clothes because of how much weight you've lost!!!!!
  8. Hi everyone, I was wondering about medications post banding. I am on 10 pills a day and was told to take chewable Vitamins and larger pills would have to be crushed. A few of my pills are time released and unable to be crushed. What issues do you guys have, and how have you changed taking your meds? I am hoping not to have to stay on them much longer after surgery, but until then I need some pointers. Thanks!
  9. Hi Terryg! Judging by your pic, you look no where near your age! So happy to hear all has gone pretty well for you. Maybe there's hope for me! I do worry about looking older after a significant weight loss since right now my fat is stretching my skin, making it look nice & tight but after, it will be hanging there & will display more wrinkles. Well, I guess that's the price to pay for a thinner body! I just hope I won't look too much older than my husband, since he's already nearly 10 years my junior! Nice to meet you too! Thank you for responding!
  10. Today I had my 2nd nutrition meeting on my 6mth journey and it was a waste of my time. They gave me a 10 page handout about exercise and my 19 year old dietian read each page outloud to me. Just wanted to vent that this meeting cost me $50 for nothing...these weight loss programs know how to make their money... Oh well
  11. So I am a smoker let me give you some background, I'm 24 i've been smoking on and off since i was 19, i know its unhealthy and i've tried to quit, and just like food its an addiction. I smoked since i was 19, then quit when i was 22 when i found out i was pregnant with my son, picked it back up about a month after I had him, quit 4 months later.....And just recently picked it back up January of this year...Its a battle for me.... What i'm wondering is if the surgeon recommends you quit before surgery, I know theres risk with lung problems after surgery, when i had my galbladder out i smoked and my chest did hurt, but i made myself caugh and breath deep....and used that little blower thing they make you do to practice breathing.... On the other hand i read on a surgeons website if you smoke it can help you show the insurance company that you need the surgery since alot of smokers replace food with cigarettes, which is the case for me, I smoke so i dont eat as much...its a vicious cycle..any advice from those that smoke and has been to their consultation appt. 12. Hi, I'm 10 days post op and doing great. Day of surgery weighed 319 now I'm 289. Hard to believe but 30 lbs in 10 days. Most of it was water weight. My legs and feet were always swollen. Now I can see my ankle bones and calves are smaller. Also the first week it's hard to get much down. My dr had me on clear diet for 2 days and I couldn't stand broth so I lived on jello, apple juice, protein waters. And lots of water. The 3rd day I could have protein shakes, sf chocolate pudding, and Greek yogurt. I still only eat about 3 bites. Or can only get a half of the shake down but I drink lots of water. I'm getting about 400 or less calories. Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt is my go to for meals at this point. I have sf popcicles and organic tomato juice with seasalt found at publix it's a nice change from all the sweet stuff. Publix also has a protein milk called Rockin refuel that has 30 grams protein taste just like real chocolate milk and it's lactose free. I love it. The first 5 days were hard for me nausea was really bad. And smells really bothered me. It's gotten better. The pain was not near as bad as I imagined. Protein, water, and walking is the key. Also as soon as you fill full stop. Even if I have 2 bites and feel full I quit. I hate to vomit and haven't so far. Listen to your body and you will do great. It's hard and you will have days better than others. I literally just walk it off. That helps. Good luck to you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using BariatricPal mobile app

    How much so far??

Hi all I was banded 1/29/08 and it has been hard losing the weight.I My last fill was in August. I have 9cc's in a a 10 cc band and I have only lost about 18 pounds. I feel I have good restriction as there are things I have a hard time eating and can tell a difference I also walk 2-4 miles 4 times weekly. All that said I would still have the surgery over again.

    ShoeSize

YES!! It's something that I just realized this past weekend. I mean, I had gone down a couple. I used to wear a 10-10 1/2 and I had moved down to a 9-9 1/2 but then this weekend, I was doing some end of season sale shopping and accidentally grabbed a pair of 8 1/2 heels and they fit!! I couldn't believe it. I thought maybe it was a fluke or that becuase they were on sale, they were stretched out so I went to the new shoes and tried on a pair of 8 1/2 and they fit too. I haven't been in an 8 1/2 since I was in high school. My feet used to swell so much and my ankles too so bad that I used to say "I don't have Cankles, I have THANKLES!" (you know, the same from the thighs to the ankles haha).
  16. So I have this little problem... we'll actually, its a HUGE problem!!! *TMI* alert: Since the surgery my sex drive has disappeared!!! (had surgery Sept. '10) Its not that I don't love my husband or don't want to be with him... I just simply don't have the desire for that. So now for the past few weeks I have been accused of cheating...*sigh* My husband has this idea in his head that anytime I step out of this house its to be unfaithful to him!!! As funny as this sounds... its really breaking my heart. Its been a constant battle (almost every night) with him. I'm sick of fighting about this but he really is convinced that Im cheating and the only to calm him down is to freaking show him proof of where I've been or what I've been doing . And I know I shouldn't feed into that but its the only way I can shut him up! I don't know what to do anymore... Im really TIRED of this Bull$#!* WHAT DO I DO !?!?!? I can't take it anymore... #this is one of very few times I regret getting the surgery- Other than that.... I FREAKING LOVE MY BAND...down 65lbs and feeling great in my XL clothes

    Not to easy

You have my sympathy. Sending hugs! It is a pain, I agree. It does get better with practice. Not to discourage you from following your doctor's orders, but some studies shows that drinking before eating isn't so bad, not like drinking with or right after eating, which have very specific concerns for sleevers. Again, I don't want to encourage not following your plan, but i drink up to about 5 or 10 minutes before a meal . You might ask your doctor if this is something you could try. Just being able to walk around with a glass of Water with lemon in it would help at those cocktail parties.

I LOVE the Special K Protein! One serving has 10 grams of protein and when you add 1/2 cup of mil you have about 15 grams of protein for breakfast! Very low carb too!

  20. It does get better. For the first 10 days I mostly drank Water, decaff peppermint tea with truvia in it cause it tastes good warm or cold and it settled my tummy. My first priority was 64 ounces of liquids. I did have some sugar-free popsicles too. I had a rough time drinking out of a water bottle. I still can't do it without causing too much gas and bloating in my esophagus and I'm 4 weeks out today. I still revert back to using the the one ounce med cups (or a shot glass and throughout the day I try drinking out of a regular glass. I drink my shakes out of a regular glass and I am still struggling getting shakes down. They fight me. I drank these shakes for 7 months before my surgery and I loved them. Now they give me issues. Most important thing is to stay hydrated, walk when you can, sip and rest. I took a nap every day for 10 days. I sat in a rocking chair, walked. To see how far I was walking, I basically walked in my living room into kitchen then dining room in a big circle and I would try to get my walking up to 20 minutes and I did that 3 times a day. I started doing it outside when I felt like I could walk far enough away from home. (liquids in liquid out) Cut yourself some slack, you just had surgery, this was a major surgery and you need to focus on healing, that's the main focus...healing and you can only really heal if you get in enough fluids. Proteins while important is not that important the first two weeks. Do the best you can with them. Best of luck and I hope you feel better soon. Take it from someone who had serious complications during surgery which extended my surgery another 5 hours...after it was already in programs 1-1/2 hours and I have Lupus and mixed connective tissue disease, a 3mm brain tumor, Glaucoma and I will be 49 years old soon, every day is a little better than the day before. I spent 5 days in the hospital and I would do it all over again.

    To The Ladies;

Eight months out, I am 55, post reduction (1996) and after nearly a 60 lbs loss, does "Giant Skin Tags" mean anything to you? LOL On the positive side, I am wearing clothes off the rack that fit this petite body either a 10 petite or 12, depending on style, I am off cholesterol, high blood pressure and antacid meds. I am more energetic most days, exercise 5 days a week and am still recovering from unexpected major neck surgery and wouldn't trade a couple boobs for the freedom and lifestyle I have. Give yourself a make over with hair, clothes and as those compliments come pouring at you the boob worry will be out of your mind. Of course there is always one asinine person who will come up to you and say, "where did your boobs go?" In fact this happened to me just yesterday, of course it was an acquaintance with a huge bust. I prefer to be remembered for my smile and kind words than my boobs.

    whoa

I get in about 500-600 cal a day. Im post op 10 weeks. My surgeons plan does not count calories ... Just so long as I get in my 70gm of protein and 64 oz of fluids and vitamins day
  24. I went back to work on day 6 and felt pretty good at that point. Felt completely normal by day 10.

    My Band making me MONEY!

Our company did the exact same thing!! We had our own version of The biggest loser over a 10 week time frame (WAY too long BTW) and our team won!! I was completely irked that I lost out of 1st place overall by less than one pound!! Keeping in mind our last weigh in was 2 days after we got back from a 2 week trip to WDW, and I STILL lost, but I digress! We didn't win anything, but our company matched $100 for every pound lost and donated it to our local food bank. We were lucky enough to walk the check to them (for $5800) and they were BEYOND excited! So we did win, and the fat we lost was turned into food and fed thousands!! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WIN!!!
