  1. My post-op program didn't say much about carbs except to keep them low. It did state things I should not eat initially and later on during the losing phase, but because the pre-op diet they had me on limited my carbs to 30 per day or less, that's what I continued in my initial post-op diet. I was only on clear liquids for 2 days and then full liquids for like 2 weeks. I then progressed to soft/mushy food that I stayed on for another month I believe. I'd second/third people's suggestion to talk with your surgeon/nutritionist. Ask your questions and get clarification until you're content with your plan (even if it deviates from their recommendations). I just feel that it's nice to have input from the professionals to help us make the best decisions as possible. As for the weight loss rate, it's so hard to guess these things before hand. I tended to be very conservative with my estimates so that I wouldn't be disappointed with the loss. This kept me from getting too disappointed and set myself up for failure. BUT, you know yourself best, and maybe this kind of thing wouldn't bother you too much. Good luck!

    sleeve vs rny

My surgeon said you loose the most weight with RNY and not as much with the sleeve. I wanted to get be best results and that was the RNY. My down time was 7 days, I had surgery on a Monday and I was back to work the following Monday.
  3. Have you ever drank beer or wine? Did you like the taste of those the frist time you drank them? Probably not, but like most people you kept drinking them for some reason, and i bet it wasn't for a reason nearly as good as you have to not use sugar. That would be your success at losing weight and your health. My point being is you can get use to it if you give it a chance, and you will be much better off. Drinking high calorie drinks like sweet tea will set you up for failure. We don't want to see anyone fail around here.

    Frustration!

So... First of all I should conitnue blogging I think it makes a person feel better! Since no one else around me understands. Second I have made this change to my life.... and I have no damn clue how to live it! I know I am supposed to have certain portion sizes and so on, however they don't tell you what calories to stay at in order to keep losing and how many carbs to take in and how many grams of sugar. I have decided to hire a personal trainer to help aid in my weight loss journey. I meet with her today at 11:30. I hope that goes well and she provides me with some good information. I have been trying to get through to my dr. His secretary is an idiot! Why are Dr's secretaries so dumb?! I want to know what size band I had put on, well I finally find out its a standard size? Ok WTF? So here I am searching on the world wide web to find out about a standard band. GRRRRRRRR :huytsao I called the nutrionist this am to find out where I am to be with calories since I was unsucessful with the SECRETARY :rolleyes. I guess I am to be taking in 1100 calories and I am not even exercising yet. Gah I am soooooooooo scared to put any of this weight back on. I have been stayin right around 872 and bumping myself up to 1100 wow. But she says I will see faster results cause at that level I am not in starvation mode! :whoo:Thanks to her I got a little bit of helpful information. I still have strong hunger pains which is weird. I cannot wait for my first fill! I have 3 more weeks though until I get it. If any of you have any information please let me know or you can add me on yahoo: militarywif3y is my id. Missyd has been a huge help to me! And I thank her alot! This will get easier? I will learn good foods and how to continue the good lifestyle change I am hoping?

    Smaller feet

When I had my original surgery (evil band) 5yrs ago I went from a 9 to a 7 1/2 shoe size lol. I still wear a 7 1/2 even with the weight I gained back. Hoping not to have to get new shoes again this time lol
  6. Adrianna, I don't want to hijack this thread but my journey has been ongoing and learning is a daily occurence!!! I was banded in Oct of 2008 and started losing (after post op gain of 15 pounds) 4 months later when I finally started getting restriction. Best wishes, Mimi
  7. Fighting with this band

Lapband tightness - is this what I'm feeling?

How long did it take you to lose all your weight?

    Fill Question: Is this normal?

When you lose weight you lose fat around the stomach and typically need another fill. This is all normal. You need a fill. I have heard people go as much 7ccs or more in 10cc without a problem.

Banding by Dr Mignon 25/09/07 Anyone else?

That's great to hear Chelle. I didn't have my first fill until Jan, so if you are still feeling good and not eating much then you don't need it. If I remember correctly they do start us off with a 2ml fill. Big congrats on your weight loss. Did you stay at the B&B in the middle of the country and have the famous steak at the pub?

Surgery on the 12th didn't turn out too well

Good luck, the sleeve will help you lose the weight and could resolve your liver issue. Hope it happens soon for you.
  11. Pre banding, I lost 24#s and after surgery in Nov. 2011, I lost 28#s but I have regained 15#s much to my dismay. I hit a plateau after July of last year (2012) and I have felt weight gain since the holidays. I must admit that I have not always followed the basics, including exercise. I know how important it is to get your adequate water and protein. I was told once that I may not be getting enough calories. I use to skip meals routinely and I am trying to do better. I rarely have hunger pains so I know that I am getting sufficient protein. Only one month did I feel that I was in the green zone when I lost 9#s of fat even though I had water gain. In my last visits for refills,I have been told that I gained water but not fat when I went for a refill. I am currently at 81/4 cc(s); my band is 10cc. Any way, I need a jump start, because I know it is in my best interest to do so! Exercise, I understand, is the way to go, but I need to be motivated. I am trying to follow the SUGAR BUSTERS DIET as close as possible. Although, I am not losing, I am trying to stay committed although it is frustrating when I think about it at times, especially when I consider how I have given up eating ice creme at night. Hopefully, being a member of lapbandtalk will help!
  12. Have any of you had the stomach bug after surgery? What meds could you take? I don't want to go to the pharmacy as most people in South Africa are extremely uneducated about weight loss surgery and they will probably give something that is bad for my pouch and not even realise it. That is why i much rather ask your advice. If you have names available, can you perhaps also state the main ingredient? Cause i have found that all your meds have different names here in South Africa oi and it frustrates me when I read about something on here and nope, not available in my country! Please if you dont mind. Otherwise any home remedy. As i am terribly sick with fever and tummy running and i am taking no meds whatsoever, really suffering ;-(
  13. It sure is, I feel sometime I can't do it, and I feel I can, but I know that after all these yrs of trying to lose weight this will help me, I know this is not a cure and I still have to stay on track and follow my health plan. Im going to buy the Protein power I didn't know they have fruit flavor power, I am also going to buy the hot chocolate. I heard I whey and protein is one better then the other and are they for the same health reasons.
  14. Had my psych consult yesterday. Passed! Whoo hoo! Not too crazy! But, he asked me something interesting and I want to pose it to you. I told him I had been struggling with the decision to have WLS for years and he said that's not unusual. Most people he speaks with have the hardest time with thinking they should be able to do this themselves. Yup, that's me. I still wonder that. So, I ask you, my sleeved family, what happened to make us gain weight back in the past? Boredom? Won't I get bored with a sleeve, too? Eathing unhealthy food? Won't that be possible, although in maybe smaller amounts? What is going to make me stick with this program when I never stuck with the others? I'd love to hear from people who have been successful with their sleeve and know what keeps you on track?

    Is Something Wrong.

I would talk to a nutritionist, on how to maintain your goal weight, I would think it has something to do with your calorie intake. My nutritionist is very good and ontop of all her patients, I am required to see her 3 months post op, and I am looking forward to it, she also is always an email away.
  16. My surgery was 2/13, and today I have my first appointment with the Dietician and Nurse Practionier. I have already seen the surgeon 10 days after surgery, but that was nothing exciting. I am supposed to get my first fill today, but I have had so many breathing issues that started since the day after surgery. Removing the band is still on the table, so I am thinking they probably won't fill me. I am kinda bummed about that, since the point of having the surgery was to get fills and help me loose weight. However, I can't complain because since surgery I have lost 29lbs in 6 weeks, all while on Prendisone and other multiple steriods! Has anyone not been filled the first time?

    3 weeks post op.

Yay! Back on real food . To all those who assured me that the missing food thing would pass......thanks heaps........it has . I have practically no restriction and feel like I can just about eat anything. Everything I have tried has not been a problem. Pasta, diced up meat (haven't tried steak or bread yet on Dieticians advice), rice, sausages, crackers and cheese etc, all seem to go down without a fuss . But...........I am getting hungry way too often! I only eat a small meal (1 and a half cups or a bread and butter plate worth) but an hour later I am hungry again. Need to have a fill badly.:huh2: I have my post op visit with Doc Peck tomorrow so I will tell him about it and see when he will put some fluid in my band :drum:. 8kg down on my starting weight but not game to look at the scales in the last few days in case I have stuffed it up with all of the 'snacking' I am doing . As soon as the rain is gone I will have to start 'pounding the pavement' and get motivated to do some crunches. Want that 'Bikini Belly' to look good next year!!!!!

    Short one today

Not feeling very prophetic today. I was going to talk about the pros and cons and all that has been going on in my head. But I have a headache so I have pushed it all to the back for today. I weighed nekkid again this morning and am showing 2 pounds more than yesterday. I feel rather :cursing: today. This idea of trying to GAIN weight for the first time in my life is just so foreign and I really feel kind of miserable. I was all prepared to start a weight loss journey and show that I could really work on my eating habits. Instead I am going the other way! I did find out that my tennis shoes weigh more than my hiking boots. But a roll of quarters weighs less than one pound. That Weight Watchers digital scale is coming in really handy right now! I am also concerned that my insurance may require me to have been at 40 BMI for 2 years in order to qualify. No one can really tell me for sure. Boy would it suck to gain the 5 pounds and still not qualify. So we went out to my favorite Mexican place for dinner. I had my usual Enchiladas, hopefully for the last time! (DARN! I should have taken a picture of them!) But I took a long time to look over the menu and see what I might order if I am banded. They have several chicken dishes that looked very promising. And I realized that even the shredded chicken filling of the enchiladas would probably be good. I figure that chicken fajita meat would probably also be good--theirs is very tender. I am so full now that I may have a preband PB!:cursing: Somehow I don't think that is anything I need to practice.:rolleyes2:
  19. Hi all! I haven't been on LBT in a very long time. I was banded in 2005 and lost about 50 lbs, got pregnant & had a baby, and now I'm about to get back on the lap-bandwagon. I'm scheduled for a fill this week and I don't know why but I'm nervous about it. I let my good eating habits fall to the wayside when I got my band unfilled, and I know I will need help getting back into the groove. The good thing is, at least I haven't put ALL my weight back on, but it has been creeping up there since I had the baby so that's why I decided to go ahead and nip this thing in the bud.
  20. my name is gillian and i live in chicago. i had my surgery nov 23, 2009. My starting weight was 424 pounds as of july 14 when i went to the doctor i now weigh 360. It has it good and bad to it but i think i did the right thing by having the surgery. because if i didn't i would probably be in the grave.:wub::scared2::wub::tt2::wub:
  21. Hey, I had my surgery on December 7th and have lost 43 pounds. I lost 21 pounds that first month, but I did have a stall by the third week. I was annoyed. I am still losing and sometimes I go a week without losing weight. I know it is frustrating, but you are going to lose the weight. You seem to have done well so far. You just need to keep doing what you are doing. Maybe lay off the crackers. My surgeon has me on 400-600 calories until I lose 75% of my weight. I guess some doctors are different with what they want others to do.
  22. Hello! So I got sleeved on January 13th. I am currently 26lbs down (yay!) Anyways, my sister got sleeved about a year ago and now eats everything! Like I'm saying she eats pizza, coke, chips everything that she ate before (in smaller portions of course) she weighed 187 and now weighs 137. She only followed the diet for 3 months before started eating everything. She is still loosing weight. I guess my question is when did you start eating everything and have you gained any weight because of it? How long have you had the sleeve surgery? And how long should we follow the diet for before beginning to eat other things?
  23. Good article... My husband supports my weight loss journey...however..he will not give up his foods! BUT...the only one i really have trouble resisting is homemade popcorn. God Bless
