I had surgery March 6, 2006. I had my third check-up today with the surgeon. I have not had a fill yet - it that normal? My doc just says as long as I am losing 2 lbs a week I don't need any adjustments. Thanks for any comments.

Hi, I am new to this site, I have been reading threads for about a week or two. I had my consultation with Dr. Geiss in Syosset NY on April 12 and have my appointments with the pulmonologist and cardiologist on May 1, and my upper GI on May 7th. My friend had the surgery in December and my best friend is also doing all of his clearance for the surgery. I am super excited, I was told by the Dr's office that my insurance (HIP Prime) doesn't turn anyone down and doesn't requrire the usual 6 month Dr supervised diet. Hopefully I will have the surgery over the summer! One quick question....what is PBing? I tried looking it up in old intro posts but I cant figure it out....maybe if someone could explain some of the shorthand, I would really appreciate it!! :huh2:

I Made It My 1St Wk

Head hunger is normal and it stinks! I am about six weeks out now and I still Have bouts with head hunger although it has largely subsided... Which I have to say was such a major fear of mine... To continue to have horrible head hunger. I have also learned that if I do have head hunger and "must" have something I go for something healthy or Protein. Not to say I haven't made a few mistakes... A piece of chocolate... Graham crackers... But when I eat stuff that I shouldn't I almost instantly get sick... So I learn my lesson Good luck! -
Thanks for the info on my insurance! Now my heart is pounding with excitement thinking I may get the surgery sooner rather than later...(wooohoo) I've been so afraid I would have to wait a year to get my surgery. It's all I think about. I have my paperwork started and attended the seminar last week with Dr Fox.

Pills POSTOP?
laylasmojo replied to SouthernSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my Doc said that I have to crush anything I take for three months then I have to cut up in either half or 4 for the rst of my life because thay could cause obstruction -
I wore mine for 2 weeks, just to be safe. My doc said I could take it off after 7 days.
-
I had to crush my pills for the first 2 weeks, and then found that I could swallow the smaller pills -- I still take chewable vitamins (the non-chewables are huge!) -- I think that if your pills are tiny, it might be ok to swallow after a couple of weeks, but as others have said, the larger pills will take a while.

You don't say when you were banded. I am going to assume very recently. That be the case the first 6 weeks is NOT about losing weight, it is about healing. Yes you need to follow the liquid, mushy guidlines so as not to cause band slipage or any other complications. You have plenty of time to worry about how much you are eating after you get healed up. Cottage cheese, applesauce, yogurt, protein shakes, mashed potato, mashed sweet potato, eggs. These are just a few things you could eat. I drink crystal light to help get my liquid intake in. I can't stress enough that you need to drink a lot. If you were just banded more than likely you do not have anything in your band because it is a time for healing. After you get your first fill then you will need to watch closer what you are eating and the amount. You are starting on an incredible journey. It is worth it. Good luck and if you need any more advice this is the place to get it. There are a lot of wonderful people here who are or have been in the stage you are in. Keep posting and asking questions.

:confused_smile:I agree, my doctor also says it is an individual thing. I had a fill two weeks ago now at 3.5 cc in 10 cc band and have another scheduled for this friday. I had a regular dinner tonight and don't feel that full. Roast pork, mashed potatoes, string beans two rolls and two small petit fours...shouldn't be able to eat that much. She's right why suffer, this is supposed to help us control our intake. I still am struggling with eating slower but still I can eat far too much and have my stomach growling all day long.

My doctor recommends a fill 2 weeks apart. You are ready.

ive had this cough and stuffy nose since thanksgiving. So a week now. Ive been taking dayquil and night quil to keep it at bay. and some days are better then most. I drink a gallon of water a day and take a multivitiman, ( but working in the public u get sick anyways ) . My question is, should i try and get a nose of antibodics to kick this in the butt? I have surgery in 6 days. My other concern is if i get the antibodics wont they give me some via iv in the hospital? I do not want itchy-coochie-syndrome.

Need some female advice please
Teachamy replied to wildcats#1fan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had the Mirena and was surprised when I bled for the first few weeks. It was light, but I usually didn't get a period. That being said, this January (1 yr. post-sleeve) I started bleeding again and found out I had a large fibroid that led to a hysterectomy. Most ob/gyn's will tell you if you are bleeding in a way that is abnormal for you, you should get it checked out because it is a sign of uterine or ovarian cancer. Luckily for me it was neither. I know it is very expensive, but peace of mind and assurance that you are healthy is very important! -
September 2009 Band Date Hi Diana, have you added your date to this post? There are a lot of us going through the same journey, banded 09/09. I think you asked about week 3 in another post? I'm looking forward to low-fat ricotta with marinara and a sprinkle of parmesan for week three. Also fat free refried beans with cheese and maybe salsa.

Almost there but stuck lol
AvaFern replied to dannilynn1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You and I have very similar statistics. At a year and three months I was also stuck in the 140 range, I think around 137. I didn't finally hit my goal of 129 until I was at 1 year and 8 months, and then I dropped to 126. I would say I have great advice for you, but I lost my last few pounds because I had three major plastic surgeries and couldn't work out for months, so all that pesky muscle went away, lol. I float now between 128-133 throughout the week and when I get to the higher end, or God forbid over it, I just go back to being extremely strict and I drop back down. In theory as long as you focus on continuing to eat well and workout, you should continue to drop. -

bdarden2010 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello fellow August sleevers... I hope everyone's journey is going well! Up until the last 4 days I was doing great, I've lost 25 lbs so far in my new way of living... but I appear to have stalled....already! I'm doing everything exactly by the book and even walking about an hour a night (about 5 days a week)... ugghhhhhhhhh I know I need to just keep my chin up and it will get better soon...but I just needed a safe environment to gripe! Happy losing everyone! -
Time Off Work After The Surgery.-True Results Gave Me False Information.

You sound like me, we worry about everyone else but us. But everyone else has no problem taking off leaving office short. I too had md give me notice for 4 weeks but I was only offf for one week. Take time you feel YOU need. its different for everyone. and check with your doctor. He should back you up, and isn't there union with Walmart? -

5 days post port pain admitted to hospital
readytogo replied to readytogo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maybe i did not make it clear. The surgeon was suggesting to do the surgery but it was up to me, his associate not assistant was suggesting to wait which only made things more difficeult for me. I can deal with the pain for now as long as I know it wont be forever. I postponed starting a new job for one more week, so time is of concern. I was not on pain med, but just started which eases the pain but its hard to function -
Just thought I would say hello to all my fellow sleevers. Down almost 30 pounds, but still having the nausea, not all the time, but boy when I eat something and it doesn't go right look out. Still having the weekness, it was a little better this week, but, I need to feel better because I have a meeting at my work on Wed. Don't want to have to get up in the middle of it. LOL! Hope you all are doing wellPenny

Hi Audrey and Cathy, Thanx for your replies. Aud! Scotland huh? I feel so scottish these days. I dinna ken why. Just sounds so beautiful.... the place, the language, and the people I am sure. Cathy, good point with the flamability.... my pants are flamable most likely aswell, so I wont do that.... about my reading.... I read the outlander series ( by Diana Gabaldon) 3 years ago when I was pregnant because my husband gave me the first book, Crosstitch, and I had to read it despite the fact that it is not what I would have chosen myself. Well, I got hooked on the story and went out to buy the rest of the series within a week. And enjoyed every minute of it! 3 years on I have been recomending the book to people so i decided to read it again before I continue saying thats what I like to read, because well, it was unusual. So... it is bit more romancy than I remembered but still the plot and characters have me hooked once more. A bit historical too. With the pant, I ended up doing the only sensible thing.... sort of.... I bought another pair. My wallet hurts but my bum looks nice.... still very large, but nice cheers telli

Do I have to stop drinking after the surgery.. I mean forever? I usually like to drink vodka and slimline tonic when I'm gigging, so I have a fair few of those once a week... I do enjoy the occasional drink. I assume that as tonic is carbonated, I will have to find a different mixer, maybe a juice, but I'm keen to know whether I have to give up alcohol altogether?. At gigs I have to admit I do get a little merry every now and then, would be a shame to give it up altogether so I just need to understand what having the sleeve means in terms of alcohol consumption post surgery? Thanks.
