I'm voting for the Omeprazole as well. My surgeon actually prescribed it to me for 90 days after surgery, so I'm still taking it. Its because our little stomachs aren't just little, but at first they produce more acid that is needed for how much we eat/the size of our stomachs. I had chronic acid reflux for many years and a GI doctor had me take the equivalent of 2 Nexium, 2x a day and calcium since esomeprazole (Nexium) can hurt the absorption of calcium by our bones. I had a hernia repaired during my gastric sleeve surgery, too and they said that was what was probably causing my reflux all those years. Since surgery I haven't had any reflux and I've been taking my omeprazole daily. Omeprazole isn't as strong esomeprazole (Nexium). I'm a little scared of getting heartburn/reflux when I'm done with my 90 days of omeprazole, but my nurse said if I'm eating the foods and amounts I'm supposed to eat and still get heartburn more than once a week she'll put me back on omeprazole. The reason she doesn't just keep me on omeprazole is as our stomach heals, it does start producing the right amount of acid and the right amount of acid helps us digest more things (like getting back to "normal foods"). Anyway, so the nurse said to try to not take it after 90 days so our bodies can fully utilize the new acid, haha. Obviously, I'm not my surgeon or my nurse, I just wanted to agree with omeprazole as something to try, but not for too long ?!?!?!

Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op
theLongestmile22 replied to AliceFD's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep, I stalled at 2 weeks and now I am 4.5 weeks out and I hit another small stall...but I know it's because I've had some healthy carbs (potatoes and fruit). Try exercising if you can...just light walking and calisthenics. don't do running or anything strenuous. -
Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op

So you hit your 3rd week stall a little early... i did too. ITs normal. and it will happen again and again. the 3rd week stall typically last only a couple weeks. The 3 month stall for me lasted almost the entire month. Dont worry yourself and dont weigh yourself everyday. You will drive yourself nuts. Just stick to the program. i weigh myself once a month. -
I'm 12 days late at this point. But I'm nearly 4 months post op, so I'm a bit further out than you are. I've never had issues with PCOS, the only time I was ever late was when I was pregnant and I knew I was pregnant even before I took the test because I couldn't stop vomiting. In fact, I continued to do so for 34 weeks and 5 days...yeah. that was fun. My husband had a vasectomy (twice because the first didn't take). So we believe it's from my weight loss at this point. I took a test, it's negative and I've got an appointment with my GYN anyways.

I was testing for 2 weeks and it was negative until it wasn’t. I actually had stopped looking at the tests after I peed on them. One night I felt super sick and had this weird experience with a hummingbird to where I felt like oh, crap. I think this is a baby. The next day I tested and sure enough, positive. When I went back through the bathroom garbage to find the test from the day or so before, that too was positive but I hadn’t waited the proper amount of time for the reading to be accurate. Please keep us updated! I’m invested in your outcome!

I am just two weeks post-op and have weighed the exact same for 4 days. I am following my program, and feel extremely discouraged at this point. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm feeling like it was all for nothing.

Good idea Kevin. I'm doing ok. I haven't lost but maybe a pound in the last 2 weeks. It's a bit frustrating but I suppose I'm hitting my 3 week stall a little late. I have lost a total of 28 lbs since surgery. I want more to come off. I need to relax and let the process work. I'm eating right and I exercising. It seems that I stall when I start exercising. I'm talking about walking mostly 2 miles + a day. I did kill my self by doing half squats and some light weigh arm exercises. Boy am I out of shape.

Hey all - I guess I'm 8 weeks post-op. I haven't been on in a while, so I thought I'd check in. I have now lost 38 lbs since surgery. When I include the 3-4 months pre-op, I've lost a total of 66 lbs, which puts me at the halfway point to my goal weight of 185. I've thrown the menu out. Okay, I exaggerated. I still have the menu--somewhere, but can't remember when I looked at it last. I am eating right, avoiding breads, carbs, sugars, fat, etc. I still log my food daily. I take my vitamins, watch calories, and make sure to get 90 grams of protein and 64 oz of fluids. The only complaint I have at this time is recurring heartburn, which I have been taking care of with some Alka-seltzer chews. I think I'm going to try some over the counter Nexium next. Hope all of you July Peeps are doing awesome!

@Sweetkayl My best friend is the foodsaver. These are a few ideas that work well for "leftovers" fajita's are a great left over, when my husband and I go eat Mexican, I always take home what's left. I vacuum seal it in one or more bags. It either becomes the next morning breakfast (mixed with eggs) or for a lunch during the week. Baked sweet potatoes, also are great. on sunday I will throw a few in the oven and set the oven and then let then sit in there till cool. I cut each one in half, vacuum seal with butter and a tad bit of cinnamon and brown sugar. Steamed veggies, I love steamed cauliflower. I steam a whole head and cut/portion with a tad of seasoning and butter. I do the same with carrots, green beans. Taco meat, I cook up a pound of ground beef/turkey/chicken/deer mix with taco packet. 1/4 cup in each bag. Then I can turn that into salad or mix with refried beans. Beans, they are great. Today i'm having red beans with diced sausage. (no rice) All you really need is to make a date with yourself and one day every two week and cook and pre-portion, date it, and freeze it.

How long did it take your surgeons office to submit to insurance???
raspberrylime replied to raspberrylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck on approval! They still haven't submitted my paperwork to insurance. I thought for sure they would have on the 6th, because that would give insurance their "30 day approval" period, but there are still no claims pending on my insurance account 😩 I guess we just keep chugging along with the mindset that we've been approved already. It's hard because I like to prep and control everything in advance and this one is totally out of my power. My pre-op testing appointment is in 4 days. Hoping we both hear something positive by the end of this week! -
Give it time … your fear is validated but what you’re going through is very common. I’m also experiencing a stall plus my period skipped town a week after my surgery lol not complaining. You will thrive I know it! The hard part is over.

I’ve bought premier protein vanilla and add a teaspoon of my extract flavors…. My favorite is almond. On Amazon you can find almost any flavor imaginable. I’m on day nine of full liquid… three shakes and some sf jello, pudding, or low sodium tomato juice. Add some of those extracts to your water too. Keep strong you got this -
Dizziness and fainting 10 weeks post op
catwoman7 replied to Ryan Witner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had an issue with that about a year after WLS. They checked several things because they said there could be any number of reasons - low blood pressure, reactive hypoglycemia, inner ear imbalance, or even at UTI! They didn't find anything, but my PCP suspects it was probably glucose-related, and my glucose level just happened to be normal during the work up. So she suggested I eat something every three hours - preferably a protein. I haven't had that issue since, so that might have been it - or at least it was for me. I know a lot of people experience that because of low blood pressure, though - that seems to be the most common culprint. hope they figure yours out!! -

Oh no! sorry to hear that. I'm kind of expecting the same thing, so I laid in a supply of bone broth and unflavored protein powder, as well as bariatric pal soups and hot chocolate. Hopefully the variety will keep me going. 2 weeks on a liquid diet is a long time. -
6 months post sleeve to bypass revision and dealing with DUMPING
Sunnyway replied to gabbykittyvsg's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've had delayed dumping syndrome due to too much fat from batter-fried fish. It appeared about 6 months after RNY>RNY revision. I had bloating and belly pain starting 24 hours after that meal. It lasted for several days, gradually improving. I feared bowel torsion but had bowel sounds and a BM so the clinic PA said it was delayed dumping. It happened again 3 weeks later after eating smoked fish. I had never heard of delayed dumping syndrome--it was much worse than sugar dumping and lasted longer. I've sworn off sugar so that's not a trigger and I've learned my lesson about eating excessively fatty food! -
October 4th here. Getting the sleeve done. Have been waiting since July 2021 for it to get scheduled. Less than 4 weeks away, im starting to get nervous. I thought I had plenty of protein but now that I've gotten my full instructions I only have like 2/3 of what I'll need just for the 2 weeks before and the 2 weeks after. I wish they had been more upfront with how much we would need I would have started hoarding it a lot sooner. Otherwise I think im about ready, have lots of water and zero Gatorade for me and food and litter for the kitties. I feel like im never going to be totally ready in the time I have left.

The first one was 2 1/2 weeks and the last three lasted about a week.

Post op day 4 is very early on. I knew someone who got seriously hurt for going off course. So, I usually try to remind everyone who goes off program in the early days that post op diets aren't about weightloss but safety. You don't want to end up with a leak like she did. It takes your stomach 6 to 8 weeks to heal. Stay safe. If no harm was done, as others said, live and learn.

Mines sometime the second week of October. Won’t know tell next week.

catwoman7 replied to Ryan Witner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
dumping isn't very common with sleeve - although that said, it's not unheard of. this sounds more like a blood pressure or blood sugar issue, though - that is definitely NOT uncommon the first few weeks or months after WLS. Mention to your PCP - he/she might want to do a workup to see what's causing it. -

What phase of food are you in, 10 weeks post-op, seems like you can have soft foods but not regular foods yet. My guess is that you didn't get enough protein in your day and eating cheese sauce and fries for dinner was the straw that broke the camel's back. Also, it could be that you aren't hydrated enough either. Those two things not hydrated enough and/or not eating enough protein can kick your body's butt! Find out your daily protein goal from your doctor or dietitian and also get at least 64 ozs of clear liquids daily (this can include protein shakes and milk, too). You have been losing weight really fast, 65 lbs post-op in 10 weeks? I know men lose faster, but that is pretty insane! My instincts are telling me that you haven't been getting enough nutrition for awhile now, protein is so super important! Also, remember we had bariatric surgery to improve our health and having some fries and cheese sauce can just tempt you to eat other less healthy, low protein stuff. Good work on your loss so far, but you gotta be alive to enjoy it! Pump up that protein and water!
