Going to attempt flaky tiapua or another mild fish, the rest of the things you quoted come roaring back up, even eaten slowly and well-chewed. 😧😥💦I wanna rejoin the real world but Precious Pouch has stated I AIN'T READY & I must obey or repent with my little green barfie bags. Would you believe my Bariatric Clinic has a stack by the waiting room door so we can help ourselves?

Not that Interested in food
Healthy_life replied to Separ1418's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I get food cravings at times. It's manageable. I keep healthy options for sweet and salty foods on hand. (make sure they fit your plan) Sweet - fruit dipped in sugar free caramel/chocolate syrup. Dannon light n fit yogurt. Skinny girl raspberry vinaigrette on a chicken strawberry salad. Salty- Jerky, veggies dipped in hummus or chicken fajitas. Food may be a chore at first. Real and head hunger will return. Eat real whole foods to hit your protein goals. It will help you feel more satiated. As you progress you will be able to consume more food.(especially sleeves) Eating shakes and bars for meals is not sustainable long term. Keep them on hand for times your on the run and cant get a meal in. Looking for Los Angeles doc for revision
kah1213 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I moved from New York to Los Angeles and looking for a new bariatric surgeon in Los Angeles area. Anyone have a strong recommendation? I had lap band in New York (2012) and recently had to have it removed, but I am looking to revise to sleeve once my stomach heals. Love my NY doc, but I want to meet with some local surgeons in LA instead of flying back to New York. Thanks all for the input!- 14 replies

Congrats on your pregnancy. I am less than 2 yrs out and 27wks pregnant. And if morning sickness didnt take over your life like it did mine for the first 18 weeks this should be a breeze. I too searched this site for help and found very little. My surgeon said to increase calorie intake by 300 no more than 400 daily. He said dont worry about the weight you gain during pregnancy as long as your still conscious of your diet. To continue the bariatric multivitamins, calcium, and b12 I was taking as well as an iron tab daily. I found pregnancy after VSG to be much more difficult for some than others. If your OB is knowledgeable about VSG it would be helpful for you. Continue to see your nutrionist. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I think a lot of the bariatric centers are finding that it is better to progress quicker. I went to my class and was given literature that was outdated 6 months later when I actually had my surgery. I seen the NUT right before my surgery and she went through my binder crossing out and correcting a lot of pages. I think they are finding that getting away from liquid type foods sooner might prevent scar tissue build up strictures.

Who has had the sleeve? How did you do? Pros and cons? Would you do it again?
NewMeDay replied to HMA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 5 days post-op sleeve. I was originally approved 1 year ago and cancelled surgery about 3xs for various reasons (fear, wanting lose weight on my own, timing at work, etc). Hwevr, I attended many free support group meetings facilitated by the program RD offered by my hospital so that I could get first hand knowledge and learn tips and strategies. This helped sooo much! The 1st couple of days in the hospital post-op was a little rough, but nothing unbearable. I also had a haitial hernia that I was unaware of that my surgeon repaired during the surgery, which Ive learned is very common for wls patients. Since coming home, I have had a lot of diarrhea, but Ive learned that many sugar-free things, including a couple of the bariatric vitamins have sugar alcohols (sorbital, sucralose, etc) that does not agree with my system. Im in the full-liquid stage til next week and today was the first day w/out diarrhea bec my RD said to start full-liquids and include hot cereals and yogurt (cream of wheat, grits, etc), which stopped it completely. I know im a post-op newbie but I have no regrets at all so far. Physically, my knees no longer hurt and I already have a diff kind of energy than before surgery that is a great feeling. I have no desire for sweets or fried foods or anything unhealthy. It may be bec im still sore and jst trying to get all of my basic proteins and fluids in, but I feel much better knowing that im finally on the other side of my wl journey [emoji4] -
Thoughts on any of the Inspire products? I know this is Bariatric Pal and they have their own store.. I was just looking for an Eggnog Protein Powder LOL.. but not sure between the two sites. I do not have enough information about either one or the other. I know there are many different brands and i really dont want to go all out buying something i may not like.. If this post isnt allowed please delete.. I am not promoting one brand over the other.. just trying to do a little research LOL THanks

Bariatric clothing exchanges in DC?
Frustr8 replied to notmyname's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check the Maryland suburbs, ivseem to recall someone in Prince George's County mentioning one a while back, hope she might still be active. Maybe St Vincent Dr Paul or another church- based thrift store could be grateful for them. All else fails Volunteers of America, Salvation Army or Goodwill although I wish they could go to a Bariatric sister in need. -
Bariatric clothing exchanges in DC?
notmyname posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all, so the Marie Kondo phenomenon combined with a lot of people having involuntary time off with the shutdown has led the local charity shops to be so overrun with donations that many aren't accepting more donations right now. I have a bunch of clothes I'd like to get out of my house, but my surgical group doesn't have a clothing exchange. I figure this is a long shot, but anyone know of a good bariatric clothing exchange in DC or close-in suburbs? And, apropos of nothing, I knew I'd need to get rid of clothing, but I also have a lot of kitchenware that I won't use anymore to donate - rice cooker, an enormous pan that I'll never be able to use again, canisters for flour/sugar, ice cream maker, etc. It just never occurred to me that this would lead to superfluous stuff in my kitchen (after my food clean out). -
Aaah that sucks. The hospital I was at has it’s own bariatric wing, so I planned on calling them specifically before going in.

Sensation of food being stuck in throat 3 weeks post op
Frustr8 replied to Bypassgirl92's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll know more Friday when my next Endoscopy is scheduled, thought for awhile I was getting a whole lot better, but urped up Friday and Saturday again as well as a little on the first liquid ( propel) I drank this morning. My bariatric staff says I am wrong, but I feel like a Gastric cripple, I get tired hearing " Be patient, you're still healing , albeit slow and steady!" I have never really stalled, but the TPN has slowed me to a pound or 2 a month, but I am assured I am much healthier than when I was hospitalized in Late November and had my PICC line installed. I had dropped 15 pounds, dehydrated and deficient of protein, so yes I am better, got a sparkle back in my eyes, but my impatience also returned. I want healed, I want it RIGHT NOW, and that's just not reasonable in the long run. But I am in this struggle to win this struggle, I am not stopping now until it is completed. And there may still be people I can help by my example, and that would be Uber-Cool! -
An honest update. Weight Gain
FluffyChix replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sorry you are struggling and happy you've had an "Aha moment" and posted about it. I've been saying this from the beginning of my personal WLS journey. If we don't get right in the head, the surgery--which face it, it's not magic bean surgery--is not gonna do all the heavy lifting. We are such crafty, smart, surviving specie(s) haha, that we WILL figure out a way to outsmart our surgery. What I still hear however is more magical thinking coming out of your mouth. Tomorrow, nothing will be different. You will wake up, resolve to mystically "do better"/"be better" etc, but guaranteed by 3-5pm, you will break and go for the fix. There is NO magic in this process. No WISHFUL thinking. Unless/until you accept that your success depends on being accountable for your actions, and decide that will make concrete changes that are actionable, you will continue to despair and the beatings will continue until morale improves. Honestly, the ONLY way to confront this issue we ALL face is to have a great plan. In your case (and in many of our cases, the key to the plan needs to include strategic partners: surgical team (who needs to know you're struggling and doing things you aren't supposed to do, bariatric counselor/therapist, RD), reading books on ending these self-defeating behaviors whatever they may be, making a concrete check list you USE and follow faithfully each day, decide on zero tolerance of going off-your checklisted plan, and being content that it takes time to correct behavior and weight. It also takes a physical plan for exercise. Then you have to DO YOUR PART. You must log. You must weight foods. You must PLAN. You should maybe think about weighing daily, measuring monthly. Check things off your list. I doubt seriously that you've stretched your pouch. Most likely, what has happened is that your pouch has matured which carries with it a natural "opening" or relaxing of your tum, which means you "CAN" eat more. It doesn't mean you "SHOULD" eat more. If you go back to your rules and follow them, you should begin to feel your restriction again. Set your rules! 1. No more than 1 cup of food at a meal by volume. 2. Eat dense, dry, lean protein first (60-80g per day). 3. Eat al dente or raw veggies. 4. No meat lube, sauce, compound meals that are highly caloric. Keep your food separate! It will hang in your pouch better and provide nutrition without a bunch of added calories you don't need. 5. Cut your carbs to 20-30net carbs (carbs - fiber) per day. 6. Aim for almost zero sugar. 7. Drink your water (100+ ounces per day. 8. Don't drink your food! No liquid calories. 9. No eating/drinking 15 mins before and 1 hour after 10. Exercise daily. Try for 10K steps each day. 11. Take your supplements. 12. Get a real life support group and attend regularly. 13. Come here and get involved and on the BP facebook group. 14. Above all--see your doc, RD to get a plan for success. AND get a referral to a bariatric counselor. 15. Consider joining OA. I wish you success, health, and a good life. I don't mean to beat you while you're down. I'm trying to make sure you don't waste any more of your honeymoon period spinning your wheels and participating in a giant fantasy. -
Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
FluffyChix replied to J Johnston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Only my hairdresser knows for sure... And Mr. F, my family, all the bazillions of people they've told despite me telling them not to, and the entire world now--since I told my family. But who's counting? I'm STILL not the poster child for bariatric surgery awareness. ) -
Yeah I also was amazed how quick Bariatric Pal Store deliveries are, even to my off beaten path and no interstate access city. Good stuff, reasonable price and quick delivery, triple wins in My Book!

It's incredibly scary, and I empathize with you because before surgery, I was having severe anxiety from the week before onwards. The day of I cried literally from the moment I woke up all the way to the hospital, almost hysterically. I managed to stop JUST before seeing my nurse, only to be split off from my husband right after. Then I started bawling again. XD It's normal to be afraid, given it is a surgery, and if it is your first time, there's always the 'unknown' factor of not knowing what to expect. ..Is it your first time doing a surgery? Generally your nurses and team will take great care of you as well, and know what to look for if anything should go wrong. If in doubt about anything, you should definitely contact your team and speak with them about your worries/fears. It also helps to research for yourself as well, and if you're willing, there are videos on Youtube of the various bariatric procedures to show you how it typically goes. (I watched several for the sleeve myself so I knew what I was in for.) Otherwise, hang in there, and I think you'll be alright! ❤️ If you need someone to talk to, feel free to message me anytime!

IVF Weight Gain, Dieting 2 Years Post Sleeve
StarPower posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi, I could use any insight or encouragement. I'm 2 years post VSG and had been maintaining 138 for about a year, I think (I was briefly slightly lower but I don't count that). I'd noticed it getting a little tougher to maintain my weight. I recently had an egg retrieval procedure (as in IVF, although I actually froze the eggs for later), and I'm planning on more similar procedures. They told me I would gain 3-5 pounds of water weight and should lose it within a week after the procedure. Well, I gained 5 lbs. (up to 143) and even two weeks later had lost nothing. I'm afraid my body was just looking for an opportunity to gain weight back and won't be able to lose the weight--and I especially don't want to keep gaining more weight with each additional procedure. I decided to start dieting, and after 4 or 5 days I've gained a half pound. I'm doing some SlimFast and adding some Quest snack bars and a tiny amount of fruit. Maybe that's the wrong diet but I don't know what else to do? I've never had to attempt deliberate weight loss since my surgery. I have to think my caloric intake was already pretty low to begin with (and maybe also my metabolism?), but I didn't even count--does anyone have an estimate? I think I'm a special case due to my bariatric status, and it didn't seem like the fertility practitioners had any knowledge to help me. -

We tend to swallow a lot more air when using a straw. This explains it well, but do follow your doctor's guidelines: https://www.bariatriceating.com/2016/06/159477/ There is also this:https://www.ucsfhealth.org/education/recovering_from_bariatric_surgery/ Flatulence Everyone has gas in their digestive tract. Bariatric patients have a shortened bowel, which can cause gas to be more odorous and expelled more forcefully. Gas comes from two main sources: swallowed air and normal breakdown of certain foods by harmless bacteria that are naturally present in the large intestines. Foods high in carbohydrates cause gas; those high in fat and protein cause very little. The foods that are known to cause more gas are beans, vegetables, some fruits, soft drinks, whole grains, wheat, bran, cow's milk and cow's milk products, foods containing sorbitol and dietetic products. To help prevent flatulence: Eat your meals more slowly, chewing food thoroughly. Lactose intolerance is generally the culprit of gas. Discontinue eating all cow's milk products. Yogurt is OK. Avoid chewing gum and hard candy. Avoid drinking with a straw. Eliminate carbonated beverages. Remedies for flatulence include Lactobacillus acidophilus (a probiotic or "good bacteria" that aids digestion), natural chlorophyll and simethicone.

Looking for the best bariatric surgeons in Miami Florida that do gastric sleeve? I'm considering to pay it myself? Bianca
-
Don't panic. The PCP sounds like he needs to do some continuing education on WLS. That study primarily focuses on people who had RNY, since the sleeve didn't become popular until later. Those of us who had RNY can be at higher risk for bone loss because we have had several feet of the top part of our digestive tract removed. That's the malabsorption thing people talk about. VSG folks are still essentially intact but with just a smaller stomach (one of the highlights of VSG). Of course, keep taking your Calcium unless instructed otherwise by your surgery center, but as long as there are not other non-WLS factors that could cause bone loss (ongoing untreated low Vitamin D, heavy smoking or alcohol use, etc), the chances are low. This is based on findings from several studies by the ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery) - the managing organization for everything WLS. See screenshots. No more risk than with a lab band, and those have NO digestive tract change/removed. Hope that helps! ~SW: 278 CW: 165~ RNY 1/5/2005 "What got you here won't get you there."

"We don't think you're a good candidate for WLS at this time" ....Should I seek a 2nd opinion?
MIZ60 replied to Dryad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might consider giving medical weight loss a try just to demonstrate to them that you are able to follow recommendations and lose some weight without surgery. Pills are only one option and you do not have to take them. Get active in a local bariatric support group even if you are pre op. Commit to whatever level of daily exercise you are able to do. Suppose you can lose 50# on your own in the next 6 months. That might go a long way to getting approval from the surgeon. If things are "rocky" at home you need to assess if you will have any support from family or friends if you do decide to have surgery. Do everything you can to reduce/eliminate stress and focus on your health. This is hard enough even with support. And, in the future, get another opinion about WLS. It is not magic and only fixes part of the problem with morbid obesity. Good luck to you. -
I hadn't heard this, but I Googled it and found this 2014 study about it: Bone loss persists two years after weight loss surgery Date: June 23, 2014 Source: Endocrine Society Summary: For at least two years after bariatric surgery, patients continue to lose bone, even after their weight stabilizes, research shows. Gastric bypass is the most common type of weight loss surgery. "The long-term consequences of this substantial bone loss are unclear, but it might put them at increased risk of fracture, or breaking a bone," said the study's principal investigator.https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/06/140623141728.htm I'll just keep taking my Calcium soft chew and not worry about it.
