September surgery buddies!!
Hope4NewMe replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been good and trying not to weigh myself every day but today I got on the scale after 4 days of not looking and my weight did not go down, it actually went up .2. I just got done with a 3 week stall 2 weeks ago and mentally I am having a really hard time dealing with possibly being in another one. Its so hard to stay positive when you work hard to do everything as right as you can and then it feels like you are failing. I can't just stay off the scale because I need to know if I'm in a stall so I can at least try things to help but being in a stall is the worst thing ever. I have been hitting all of my goals, have increased my exercise a little bit, not drastically. As in I walk 30 min instead of 24 on the treadmill. I have been trying to do my strength exercises, but not with any actual weights, just my own arms. So its not likely to be an exercise and muscle gain equaling me out. I have been on the low end of my water and calories so I'll increase both but honestly if I was just on a regular diet right now, I would just give up. I'm glad I can't give up really, so I'm appreciative of the surgery but still sad. -
Hi there! Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I'm actually getting married that same day! I felt nervous and excited as well, and I'm SO happy I did it. It has definitely leveled out, and I'm actually quite regular now. The Multivitamin was causing diarrhea, so I don't take it on days that I can't be near a restroom. I'm now 3 months out. CW 257. Still lactose intolerant and don't do well with sugar, but can tolerate most foods, although I haven't tried salad or raw veggies just yet. I've been stalled for 2 weeks, but I'm not worried. It happens. Be patient with your first few weeks. This forum helped he a LOT. Good luck to you!

Formula for logging fluids & proteins
Arabesque replied to Sully143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just log it when you have finished drinking all you made. Or if you don’t finish it, just record what you did drink. So if you drank 3/4 of your shake that’s 6ozs of fluids & 3/4 (or 75%) of the total protein content of the protein powder you added plus the protein in the milk). Keep it simple when you can. There’s enough to be thinking about & working out in the beginning without complicating aspects. 😀 -
All these things written are of interest to me. Me sleeve is scheduled for December 14th, I'm 64 and have a difibrillator. My lupus has damaged my heart. So I hope in to my cardiologist every 3 months to have my defibrillator checked and to see my Dr. Then yearly for the nuclear stress test, echo, and the rest. All my specialists as well as my PCP feel this needs to be done as an emergency for my health. I didn't know Medicare would pay or I would have looked into it earlier. But here I am now. Ready, most definitely willing, and very eager! Sent from my SM-S901U using BariatricPal mobile app

Good luck this week you will do great! -
I had my sleeve done on 11/11 and I am in the last few days of the pureed/soft food stage right now. I feel like after I moved from liquids to purees (and all of the gas from the procedure was out of my system) I either haven't really felt my restriction or I'm still just terrible at recognizing it. Everything I've read seems to say ~2oz is a normal portion size for this stage, but I can usually eat 3oz (esp. of refried beans) and I haven't really had the nausea/runny nose/sneezing fullness cues from my literature. I do get a feeling of tightness in my sternum sometimes, but it will usually go away if I pause and wait a few minutes before continuing to eat. I'm worried I'm overeating and potentially (beginning to) stretch my stomach - should I be stopping as soon as I feel the chest tightness and consider the meal over? Is the kind of restriction I've read about more common once I've moved on to soft foods? How did you learn what your fullness cues were and does anyone have good resources for recognizing your restriction/not overeating? I just had dinner and it was 1/3 a cup egg whites with 1 tbs of ricotta + Frank's sauce and I managed to finish the whole thing, and it was only the last couple of bites that I felt anything in my chest which is now lingering. Did I overeat? What should I change for next time? Edited to add I have lost ~10lbs post-op.

November 2022 surgery support!
R2twobees replied to feisty one's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My Resleeve was on Nov. 16th. Next to zero pain and each day I can consume more water. I was discharged on Phase two diet which included cream soups, protein shakes, Greek yogurt, and everything else from Phase one. I'm now eleven days post-op and having crazy cravings for popcorn. I allowed myself to have a half cup. I chewed it well and it went down with no issue, which scares me that I was able to eat it. I haven't cheated other than that. I cooked an entire Thanksgiving dinner, but none of that for me....instead 3 oz cream of chicken soup. I'm able to get my 64ozs of water in. I'm a slow loser though....before the preop liquid diet 244, sw 237 today 231....i feel like i should've lost more by now 11 days post-op and only 13lbs? -
Don't worry. We do not lose weight in a linear fashion. If you're sticking to your programme then you WILL lose - you cannot not lose. Everyone here has had stalls big and small, long and short - they are part and parcel of a weight loss journey. I know they are hard but they will surely shift. Enjoy your journey - it's so very worth it.

Just some advise from someone 2 years out of Sleeve Surgery
skinny_me_1970 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the gastric Sleeve surgery almost 2 years ago … was 260 and now about 160 … lowest weight 155. 1. You will have regrets within 6 months of surgery for emotional reasons like not soothing yourself with food - you will need to break up with food and see it only has a way to keep u alive and once in a while eat something really good but only have a little or u will pay dearly in nausea and pain. U will start Turing to food with more flavor because u can only eat so much so u will want to enjoy it. Naturally thin people do not look to food a friend. 2. Start weight training as soon as u are ready - I started 1.5 months after surgery. I got a personal trainer because I’ve always been afraid of the gym but I was more afraid of loose skin. Although I do have some loose skin I’m in my 40’s - I look pretty good for loosing 100 pounds. I didn’t start cardio until after I lost most of my weight because I feel like I eat more with cardio. 3. If you start loosing your hair - don’t panic. I had my entire hand filled with hair for several weeks of showering. I thought I was going to die. It started 4 months from surgery. As a fat women - I ALWAYS had awesome hair so loosing it was HARD. I paid a lot of money for different fixes but it probably wasn’t worth anything. It slowed down and after a year and a half - it’s better - not back to 100% but I’m a good 90% normal. Try to embrace it and maybe cut it off to start a new you. 4. Would I do it again? HELL YES! Is it hard, yes. You can no longer count on food as a friend. You cannot eat and drink at the same time (makes me feel sick). I miss taking advil when I had live a pain. You have to watch your alcohol intake. If you over eat - u will pay and u want to die. However, I no longer will like I embarrass my family with my size, I can ride on rides at any amusement parks, I can climb stairs without stopping, I am seen by people without the look of pity, i don’t feel uncomfortable all the time, the list could go on for hours. You start a whole new chapter of your life. Best of luck -
Formula for logging fluids & proteins
Sully143 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is there a formula for logging the fluids and proteins for stage 3? Example, if you do 2 scoops powder with 8 oz milk but are drinking out of little 2oz cups every 15-30 mins? How are we logging this? Thanks. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Night time and my fat brain wants to eat.
Leo segovia replied to Leo segovia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes . It is harder then I thought it would be to change that habit of late night eating. So I now have resolved myself to saving about 200 calories to my late night snacking. I have also returned to making sugar free jello and having that as a snack or having a banana . I have also reduced my portions to 250- 300 g . It was eating puree just so I could eat larger portions. While also not pureeing my foods anymore. It is helping and starting to embrace and modify my old habit. Work with it and not let it become my burdin. Also this week I am now back to loosing weight again. I'm entering my 10 week post op. Pre op 2 week before 265bls Surgery day 250 lbs Current weight 225 lbs That's 40 lbs. In 21/2 months and I am happy and healthier and looking forward to continue on my journey to better health and weight loss . -
Mine lasted 3 weeks... then at 3 months i was stalled out for over a month. Everyones stall length will be different. just keep at it.

I was told by my doctor/ team that I couldn't drive for about a week and while in the car to have a soft pillow to help ease the pain while wearing the seat belt. I would suggest to still talk to your doctor/ team and see what they have to say after your surgery to make sure everything is okay with your healing process.

ashleydashley replied to ashleydashley's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you so much sweet girl... I totally understand the frustration. I even called the doctor multiple times to make sure something wasn't wrong with my stomach or that the surgery didn't go wrong or something like that cuz I was so confused on why I was eating perfectly and not losing any weight... But it but past about 2 weeks ago and I've lost 14 lb since then. So hold on there's hope -

You look so good! That's awesome! I am currently in the 3 week stall and trying to not freak out and just do what I know to do and hoping it passes like you said. -
I’m interested to know this as well - I have the same surgery date and was planning after my two week check in to go stay with my parents roughly 3 hours away until the new year. I know they cautioned us about seat belts while our incisions were still healing but that’s all I can recall.

Any folks with a December surgery date traveling for Christmas? Mine is on the 5th and I want to make a 3 hour drive to visit family for the holidays. It’ll be about 18 days after my surgery. Any insight on traveling after surgery?

Nerves ahead of Dec 5th surgery
qtdoll replied to smc124's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I fully understand. The psychological aspect of all of this can be rough to handle & many ignore it. I'm in a support group with Kaiser, we meet/talk every week & that helps me a ton. I truly feel being in a positive headspace is just as important as our dietary discipline -
I'm 30 year old frmale with PCOS. Mh surgery was March 1st 2022 so by Dec 1st this year I was I was 9 months post op and I've only lost about 35lbs. I try to stick my diet, I've been working out about 3 to 5 times every week since I was 5 and half months post. It's December and I was taking imventory of my year and I'm just gutted. stalls usually last 1-3 weeks, so it should break soon. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale if it's screwing with your head. It'll break and you'll be on your way again..

Hey yall, I had vsg on Halloween. Lost weight fairly easily the first 3 weeks. But that 3rd week and now the 4th week the scale has not moved. I know from what I read it is normal but it's been 2 weeks now and I am worried. I have tried different things to restart it like okay maybe I need to count every thing that I eat and did that then, okay maybe I need to eat more so my body will stop freaking out and tried that. However, nothing worked haha. I am getting all required protein and water and keep it low carb. I was eating like 250 calories and day then bumped it up to around 500 for a couple days. And when I added more carb still nothing happened. So, today I decided I'd try to walk for 30 mins which I did. Hoping the scale moves. Any suggestions?!!! I really want to succeed...
