    Hospital stay needs

as little as possible. travel toothbrush and paste some comfortable pj's if you hate hospitals gowns and well nothing else unless you are scheduled for more than a day. i slept most of day of surgery and spent the night walking in circles around the 3rd floor. and went home around 10 a.m. the next day after surgery so i needed nothing. Some people spend longer in hospital so needs might change. Also i am a guy and we just dont care what we look like or wear most of the time so there is that. LOL
  2. Today is day 2 of my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I'm to have four shakes per day. To be honest, I'm friggin hungry. And I'm consumed with thoughts of food. My surgery is on 10/26. I figured this would be the hardest part, but man it sucks. Anyone else out there? Sent from my Pixel 2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. My programs is a minimum 3 month programs that includes a set number of support groups, visits with a NUT and a Bariatric psychiatric nurse, an exercise component and an Upper GI. I was entered the program 7/19/16 and had surgery 12/30/16 but I pushed my surgery back a month from approval because I wanted to do it after the holidays when my time off at work resets.

    What can happen if....

I was just getting ready to post something similar. I had surgery on Jan 22 and I am down about 35 pounds since then. i see people who went to surgery around the same time and weighed less down at least 10-15 some 20 pounds than me. I never wanted to loose super fast (because of the whole skin thing) but I wanted to be out of the 200's 4 months post op (5 months max). I CAN NOT stand Protein shakes. I have wasted about $200 on different ones and the foam, the smell, everything makes me gag. I do eat a good amount of protein a day. I eat 2 boiled eggs (12g) 2 Sargento skim milk string cheese (16g) I drink about 12 oz of skim milk (15g) and then Water protein I eat for dinner usually 1/2 chicken breast (15g) or fish (12g) and most days I have tuna fish thrown in the mix. I get at least 64 oz of Fluid daily and I work out 40-60 mins. i knew it was going to be slower for me because I work from home (telecommuting) and spend most of my day in front of a monitor or a conference (video conference) calls. I read the post of others who are on the fast track and they are downing a Protein shake in the morning and i wonder if that's where I am missing the mark. I am hoping to lose 15 pounds by April 15. I really just want to be out of thr 240s and close to the 220s so I can stop beating myself up. I feel like that will put me back on track. I am losing inches and a "shape is appearing BUT I really want to well into the 100s when I go on my cruise in November. I am super psyched that my body is changing and I look/feel better. Not to many people asking questions, but you can't help but to feel a little down when looking at sleevers who went from flab to fab leaving you in the dust.
  5. Hi, my name is Ronda. I have been a bariatric patient for 10 years now. Initially, I had RNY done and lost 85 pounds with it. My maintenance was steady for about 5 years, but started declining--regained weight, bone loss, anemia, circulatory and cardiac problems. I have hypertension, but am severely allergic to those drugs for treatment. Weightloss and management is the only way I have of keeping my health in good shape. In 2007, I went to a new bariatric surgeon to seek an evaluation on my prognosis; he said revision surgery was needed to attend to severely stretched stoma. Insurance always held strong opposition to any treatment for my problems. This visit, Dr. tried 2 times to appeal the insurance for treatment--failed both times. Some time passed, and I had changed employment status and my healthcare needs were being covered on State Medicaid. This time, I learned that my bariatric treatment was covered under my Medicaid plan, but would need evaluations from the pulmonologist, cardiologist, psychologist, and dietician/nutritionist, in addition to following a dr-supervised weightloss plan with my pcp--I started all of this last September. It took solid 9 months of negotiating coverage and ultimate surgery that I had with my doctor on May 31st here in Phoenix. AZ. I am 3 weeks postop now. My loss is 23 pounds, and still mostly blender shakes and some pureed foods. I find that I don't really like what I ate preoperatively. Most of the foods taste too sweet--even if sugarfree. I had laparoscopic surgery so the healing is great--just unable to lift anything yet. I am driving, and doing most of my chores as long as I don't lift anything over 15 pounds. I walk the malls, and try to keep busy per dr's orders. Yet that is a challenge now that we have 110 or hotter days coming this summer. I still keep at it, tho. I know my surgery was a gift from God--in every sense of the word, as was the initial RNY procedure back in 2001. Both surgeries saved my life! Forever, will I be indebted to the Powers that Be.

  9. Rockstarwife, I was sleeved dec 19. Our weight loss is very similar. You are doing great. I also slowed for a while. I'm also still on liquids. I go for checkup tomorrow. I'm ready for the next phase!!!
  10. Manda 87 amen to that. Couple years ago my office was moved from one end of the building to the other. And by building I mean 3 enormous factories that were connected to make one collosal building. I sat as far away from the cafe as you could get. After that move I started buying a breakfast sandwich at Dunkin Donuts every day; which was also pretty expensive. I started buying low fat breakfast sandiches by weight watchers and lost probably 10 pounds from that alone.
  11. Ughhhhh I'm so tired of broth!!!! I really wish I could have a protein shake and I really don't like them but I want one just cause I can't have it...OMG 19 more days left of clear liquids and I don't think I'll make it!!!!! Helpppppppp!!!!!!!!

    Shoe Size

A few years ago i lost nearly 100 lbs and went down a full size and from wide to medium. 10 wide to 9 medium.
  13. Guys, I have been coming here since I was sleeved in May 0f this year (2015). Lately when I have reached out for help, advice or with questions I have basically gotten the attitude of "best wishes..." I am not here for well wishes, I am here fr support, help and feedback. I am so frustrated that this will be my last post if no one reaches back. Things are dire. I was sleeved as I stated in May of 2015, I have had the usual trial and error and a lot of bumps. I just had my gallbladder out 2 days ago and then yesterday my Aunt passed unexpectedly. She was the last connection that I had to my mother that I lost way too soon in my younger years. I have awful reflux and am having an endoscopy on 10/18. I am dealing with a gut on fire, post op pain and extreme greif. I don't know what to do with myself. I cant go to the gym, I can't binge eat and I can't drink. I have had friends over and gotten out of the house and gone for a car ride. No ease in my pain and suffering. I have written in my journal, meditated, knitted and had people over, Someone PLEASE HELP ME. What am I missing? I am having so much trouble coping, and what does anyone recommend what to try next?
  14. Hi everyone! hoping for your help! I am one day away from being four weeks postop (VSG Dec 16, 2019) and I made myself some hummus today but the consistency was very grainy and I only had a couple of teaspoons but then I got super scared that The grains or the skin of the chickpeas might get stuck in my stitches and cause a leak or something...so I stopped eating....but now I’m freaking out!! Help!! Thoughts? Should I call my nurse tomorrow? Thanks! Neda Vancouver, BC

    average weight loss

I lost 107 pounds in about 10 months- so a touch over 10 pounds a month. The loss wasn't completely consistant. Some weeks I lost more than others, one week I gained a pound. I was hard core with the low fat, low carb. diet and worked out.

    My "know it all" husband....

I know what you mean, those soldiers...we love 'em but they are a little hard core in the exercise department. I work with the military, all day, 60 hrs a week. I have gotten similar comments. "You can march with us tomrrow morning" or "we'll have you start with 20 situps and work your way up". I appreciate the motivation but I'm obese and I have 10 years on most of them. I can't do more than 1 situp now let alone 20. I guess the best advise I could give you is to arm yourself with some ammunition from your nutritionist and trainer. When he offers to do your food log say "Oh thank you but my nutritionist already has a log and specifically asked me to fill it out daily" or "My trainer wants we to start out slow so I don't cause injury" Let the professionals advise be the polite way to say "no thank you".

    Not working

Oooh I just realised you said you have an underactive thyroid, hmmm that explains a lot hon , my stepmum has been a Uk size 10 (lucky bugger) her whole life until about 6/7 years ago when in the space of about 6 months she rocketed up to a UK16, she had her thyroid tested and now even WITH meds she lives on 18 weight watchers points a day to maintain a UK 12/14. It upsets her so much that no matter what she does if she has ONE day when she eats 'normally' she can put on 3lb. I wonder if this is what is contibuting to your struggle hon? Nina xx
  21. I've lost 25 pounds in 3 months. I lost 20 pounds in the first month, but only 10 since. That may be about to change because I think I'm almost at the sweet spot -- just had my 4th fill (up to 7 cc's) and am starting to feel it. I just graduated to jogging (1 minute jog, 2 minutes walk), so maybe some weight will start to come off.

    Any Separations/Divorce after the Band

La Bella were you referreing to me?? It has taken me a long tim to lose the weight because 8 months after my band I got pregnant so I also have a band baby that is 16 months old and it took me after he was over a year old to want to start lossing again, its harder than when we first have the surgery because its all by will power and the motivation is gone because of the weight gain with the pregnancy. I went back in July (7/19) to get a fill and I was 191 and as of today I am 177 I am starting all over and feel great. I am also happy about my separation because it was just full of problems and I was unhappy for a long time before I made my decision. Thanks for the support everyone.
  23. My surgery was 3/8 and for some reason today I'm feeling old pains again. I was good for the past 2 days. I did do a bit more walking and small things around the house so I had some soreness but today it's painful where I am taking the prescribed meds to handle it. On a scale from 1-10 I'm at about a 5. Also I have NO appetite at all.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. Your best bet is to call the customer service (or member services) number on your insurance card. Ask them what their requirements are for approval for weight loss surgery. Write down the date, the time, the number you called, and the name of the person you spoke to. Write down your questions and their answers. Some of your questions should be: 1. Does my policy cover weight loss surgery of any kind? 2. Are there certain types of weight loss surgery that are covered and if so what are they? 3. Are there any types of WLS that are specifically excluded? 4. Do I need a psych clearance? 5. Do I need a period of time of medically supervised weight loss appointments, and if so, how long? 6. Do I need any other clearances? 7. What are the BMI requirements? 8. Do I need to have any comorbidities for it to be covered? 9. What is my deductible? (amount you pay before insurance pays a cent) 10. What is my copay? 11. What is my maximum out of pocket? (the total amount you will spend in a year on medical care and then insurance will cover ALL of the rest) 12. Is the psych clearance (if you need one) covered by my insurance? 13. Is my surgeon in my network? And if not, what does that mean to me financially? 14. Is my hospital in my network? And if not, what does that mean to me financially? 15. Is my anesthesiology group in my network? And if not, what does that mean to me financially? Good luck.

    VSG Runners Question

I'm 10 weeks post-op and just starting back to running. At this time I can drink normally - normal size drinks, max 4oz at a time. I also use Nuun...I just let it go flat before I drink it, which isn't a problem. So far my distances are short enough, that I haven't had to eat during the run....still rebuilding based on my energy level. I'm planning on a bit of trial and error as I find what works. Right now I'm leaning towards a small pouch of peanut butter...I know my stomach can handle it and sounds better than Gu. (I hated Gu pre-op so I don't expect it to have improved)
