Band Removal and Sleeve in one surgery ... what should I expect?
MarinaGirl replied to Allie1958's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
With your acid reflux, has the surgeon considered revising you to a Gastric Bypass instead of a VSG? -
Not going to apologize for being vain

I am going through this right now as I prep for my revision. My boyfriend keeps dropping comments about how I "better not cheat" I'm "doing it for myself" ect.. I would give anything if he could read what's in my heart. Yes I want to look better, but I DO want to look better for him. I want to be his arm candy, I want his friend's to stop thinking he has the girlfriend with the "pretty face" I want to be able to wear lingerie and feel sexy. Yes, I'm doing this for myself, but I'm also doing it for him. I feel like he's bracing for me to run off.. I just wish he could read my heart. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Band Removal and Sleeve in one surgery ... what should I expect?
Kimberlee725 replied to Allie1958's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my Lap Band for 14 years and had it removed March 14 and had a revision to the Gastric Sleeve. I'm thrilled I did it and I'm back to losing weight. I was in the hospital for three days and have had no problems yet with the exception of heard burn but it is nothing like the issues I had with my band. You will do great! Best of luck! -

Getting sleeved May 16
Karenytrevision replied to ready_forchange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is scheduled for June 1st and my liver shrinking diet starts this Thursday for two weeks until surgery. My surgery is in two stages with the first surgery being revision from rn.y and fixing hiatal hernia and second surgery on August 1st being the sleeve. Has anyone ever heard of two stages like this? I am going from gastric bypass revising to sleeve -
Just looked at my Revision Bill! WOW- Paid by Ins $27K
Ms. Brightside replied to rosstheboss's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I received the estimate from my hospital last week (surgery is next week). $32-36K for the hospital only. This does not include the fees for the surgeon, surgeon's assistant, or anesthesiologist. This is for the sleeve and is not a revision. -
Just looked at my Revision Bill! WOW- Paid by Ins $27K
rosstheboss posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just looked at my BCBS Site and the bill for my revision on May 5th was in. the Total was 42K and the Approved amount BCBS Paid was $27,500 I really didn't think it would have been that much ! And I am not yet sure if the Surgeon Cost is in there. With all the Testing for this we meet my $10,000 out of pocket max for the year as my ins runs Nov toNov. My Dr also does original Sleeves now for $9,999.99 in surgical center .- 5 replies

So I'm not at goal yet but I'm having the extra skin on my stomach removed because it's giving me so much trouble. The surgeon said mine will be one of the largest he's done. My surgery is June 5th. I'm so nervous because it will be a 5 hour surgery and they had trouble waking me up from my sleeve surgery which was shorter. I woke up with the breathing tube in. Also he told me I have a higher chance of infection and wound complication because of my past history and some meds I'm on. It will be a 70 cm incision. I have to stop 2 of my psoriasis meds which also scares me. My psoriasis is pretty severe when not medicated. Even when medicated I can have our breaks. 3 times in my life, and each time worse than the last, I've ended up in the hospital with a really bad out break where basically all my skin comes off. Even with all these things I feel like I NEED this surgery to improve my quality of life. I'm almost down 260 pounds from my highest of 540 and my extra skin is pretty bad already. I can't do any of the other surgeries until I reach goal but this is one I can do part way. He's explained that I may need a revision tummy tuck when I reach goal since I'm still a little less than 100 pounds away from goal. Insurance approved coverage first try though which gives you an idea of how bad it is. I'm just nervous and excited at the same time. Has anyone had this surgery? What was your recovery like? What were your results? I don't do well with surgery generally. After the sleeve surgery I was kept 5 days instead of 2 and was in pain for 3 weeks. After my gallbladder removal I was readmitted to the hospital due to pain. They told me I wouldn't be able to save my belly button. So now I get to tell people I am an alien or was created in a lab..which I'm kind of looking forward to. Lol I'm so nervous but also so hopeful this will help...

If the book is standing in the way of your revision.. Just do it! How many meals a day are we talking? These are all little battles... Fight through each one, and you'll be golden! How many months did it take the acid to show up?

Help! Haha I'm leaving for a 10 day vacation and I'm 4 months out from surgery. Down 73ish lbs from preop and feeling great! I'm so worried about how I'm going to stay on track in Europe. I don't know what the food will be like and how I will get in all my protein. Thinking about packing 10 protein drinks but that's silly right? Not sure. Thought about 100 calorie nuts packets and protein bars. Any suggestions for what I can bring with me or any suggestions from anyone that has been to Paris/Loire Valley or Barcelona while on track and seen or know of any good ideas or options so I don't come back 10 lbs heavier. My weight loss journey has been a battle and I fight the demons every day. I haven't had an easy, not hungry time of it and I really don't want to lose now! Thanks in advance for your help! Stomach Ulcer - Long Term Complication
Er1n replied to Camella's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes!! I was lucky that my first pouch was 6 millimeters (I think) leaving room for the revision. I didn't participate in any normal ulcer causing issues like caffeine, smoking, soda, alcohol and so forth. -
Had my band removed three months ago. Sleeve revision surgery scheduled for May 25. I'm starting to get majorly nervous now. Very worried about the pain I will be in post surgery. I'm wondering if it will be lessened because I have already had my band removed and recovered from that? I'm on day four of Optifast two week diet today and I am absolutely starving.

Has anyone gone from Lap Band to Sleeve?

Thought I had my procedure chosen and now reconsidering.
FatPharm replied to Here_I_Go_Again's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Here's the thing-If you have a sleeve and get severe reflux, you can always revise to the bypass. Once you get the bypass, there is no going back. I have a history of reflux and still got the sleeve. He also repaired a hiatal hernia, which may have been contributing to reflux. I had my sleeve done with a 40 French bougie size and resection (stapling) started at 6cm from my pylorus to hopefully lessen my chances of problems. -
Stomach Ulcer - Long Term Complication
Er1n replied to Camella's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't get an ulcer long term but at 2 months post rny I developed an ulcer for no known reason. I was on ppi. They tried max carafate for 6 weeks to resolve without success. I ended up having to have a bypass revision basically having rny all over again at 4 months out to remove the ulcer and make a new pouch. tough times but I am doing very well now. I am 2 months post op of my second rny now. I am 100 pounds down. -
Does anyone still get "stuck"?
MarinaGirl replied to Jess55's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Best to revise to Gastric Bypass (MGB or RNY) instead of Sleeve to minimize acid reflux, which is common with VSG. -
Why is everyone converting from band to sleeve?
jbaker5d replied to futureskinnybtch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand. My experience too. I guess I just figured if you were in fact able to eat the proper foods it would be successful. All in all I'm SO glad I have revised to the sleeve. [emoji16] -
Why is everyone converting from band to sleeve?
A_new_sara replied to futureskinnybtch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm only successful in weight loss when I live on no food, or protein shakes. The only real foods I'm able to eat are garbage so over the last 7 years I've lost 60, gained 40, lost 40, gained 50, lost 70, gained 50, now I'm down 20 again and trying to hold it off and stick to low low calorie until my revision Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Tentatively scheduled for surgery on July 14th in Cabo Mexico I have an endoscopy on Tuesday and as long as those results come back okay regarding my lapband I will be scheduled and looking forward to joining the losers bench. Can't wait to get this lapband out of me and really truly embrace a new tool for weight loss. Would love to follow others being sleeved in July and others revising to a sleeve Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Deciding between 2 Dr's in Mexico, then going BUT I'm considered a revision and now unsure whether I should have Sleeve or Bypass.
MarinaGirl replied to Here_I_Go_Again's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
With your prior history of reflux I think you should go with gastric bypass instead of the sleeve. You'd hate to go through this revision and then require another surgery later. Acid reflux is a big deal; it puts you at increased risk for esophageal cancer and taking PPIs for the rest of your life to control it may lead to higher risks of dementia and osteoporosis. -
I thought I wanted to have the sleeve procedure (that's what I requested to be approved for and was) and after doing a lot of research, wondering if I should go with full bypass. Years ago I had lapband - I was very successful, lost weight quickly and the golden child for my surgeons office. The one issue I had as I kept filling the band, terrible reflux. I was 10 lbs from my goal weight and researching plastic surgereons. Unfortunately the reflux got so bad that I had pneumonia for several months and I was finally forced to totally un-fill the band. I had to wait 3 to 4 months before I restarted fills. I was never able to get back to the amount I had in the band previously and the reflux started again. I regained a lot of weight. Now fast forward 4 years, just before Christmas in 2015, I experienced a lot pain In my abdomen and found out that the band had broke. I had emergency surgery to remove the band. After a year and half and regaining all my weight, I'm ready to do gastric again. I've been dieting and eating much better for the last few months. I am now mentally prepared to make the right eating choices. I'm wondering if the sleeve would be a good procedure for me because of my prior issues with reflux. Although, the only time I have had reflux was when I had the band. I really want the sleeve but I don't have the same issues with reflux. TIA

Consult- Dr recommended bypass
pattycaketoo replied to tera73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told the same by my dr, however, he explained that sometimes you will get acid reflux sometimes requiring a revision to bypass. One surgery is enough for me so I went with bypass. -
Skin Or Fat
OutsideMatchInside replied to Chaelove0810's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The answer to this is yes for the most part he is right. If you have hanging skin and it has fat in it, losing more weight isn't going to fix the skin. It is still going to hang and just be empty. Losing more weight won't fix the skin. However, if you still want to lose weight, it is better to wait until you have lost to the weight you want and then have surgery. Only because if you have surgery before and then lose more you will have more loose skin and want a revision. Unless the skin is causing you physical pain, it is better to wait until your weight has bottomed out and you have been at the same weight for a while.
