  1. I have not had my first fill yet. It is scheduled for Oct 25th. I have been eating a lot of Sugar Free Popsicles (15 calories per popsicle) and sugar free jello. I will sometimes have Carbmaster yogurt. The popsicles take off the edge of wanting something sweet. I have lost 26 lbs since I started my pre-op diet and post surgery on Sept 1st. I just don't want to cheat as I know I will make more excuses down the road and end up where I was before.

    Unbelievable that I did this!!

I was lactose intolerant before the surgery - however, it affected me differently (out the other end) and I didn't throw up - so there were times when I would suffer the consequences and eat some ice cream -- however, I don't like throwing up so I will now pass on ice cream. I tried lactaid before surgery and it didn't really seem to make a difference in the reaction my body had to ice cream so I gave up on it. I don't care to drink milk at all and I actually can enjoy my Golden Spoon frozen yogurt as much as I did ice cream. I can't tolerate much of anything sweet as it is soooo very sweet tasting to me.

Feeling a little frustrated today ......

What do you add to your chicken and tuna salads? I thought of adding sour creme? or maybe unflavored yogurt, then again the low fat mayo would probably be more to my liking. Do you add veggies to it..like onion, pickles, eggs?

Feeling a little frustrated today ......

I am a year out and this is the way I eat steak and chicken. For the most part, I don't cook, cause I live alone. So at home I drink a lot of Protein shakes, lunch meat, Protein Bars, greek yogurt, chicken or egg salad, and these are all soft foods. Dense foods like chicken or steak are things I eat when going out to dinner. Yes, I chew it up until it's just a mushy liquid in my mouth. If I don't,it's going to come back up.

    Eating and drinking with sleeve

Call me naughty, but I drink before and after I eat, even though my surgeon's guidelines say not to. Just small sips, nothing major. After learning in gastroenterology class that only particles smaller than 1 mm in size can pass through the pyloric sphincter, I'm a little skeptical of this whole "fluids will push your piece of steak right through" idea. Yogurt, maybe, but not most foods.

how do you get your protein in?

I am not sure why you exclude Protein shakes - I know a lot of people hate them but you just have to look until you find something you like. I like GNC, and while they are more expensive, they are usually in some mall and the best thing is, that they let you return the product. I have tried it several times, I buy Protein powder, and try it. If I don't like it, I return it. I never have more than one serving, no need to abuse their awesome policy. I have found that I really like the GNC Wheybolic Extreme chocolate and I think it is as close as possible to chocolate milk. It has no after taste IMHO and it packs a lot of great protein (isolates, no concentrate). It also mixes very well so it is good to use without an electric blender. Anyway, my nutritionist says a lot of sleeves continue to rely on protein supplements for ease of mind and I see this. I have a chocolate shake in the morning - 30g of protein and 140 calories, and it usually isn't too hard to get 30g in naturally. You can go all out and get the whole serving for 60g of protein and 280 calories and then never have to think about protein the whole day but often I don't want to sacrifice 280 calories on just a shake. It's not cheap, make sure you get a coupon or wait for the same (usually beginning of the month) Other than this obvious, here are some other things I like: Hummus with yogurt (greek/regular plain) - this makes for a nice hearty protein snack, add a little olive oil, curry powder or hot sauce on top for an extra kick but not necessary Fage 2% yogurt - make sure to use the 2%, because the calories are about the same (maybe 10 cals more when comparing by weight) but it tastes a LOT better than the 0% versions of Fage, Oikos, Dannon and the like. If you can spare the calories and carbs, add a little maple syrup or agave nectar I am still on full liquid, so I have to wait for tuna, chicken and eggs :-(

how do you get your protein in?

As others have said tuna has become a big part of my diet. It's quick and easy to prepare and packed with protein. Once I was onto soft foods and allowed to eat tuna was when I was finally able to meet my protein goal for the day. I mix it with Greek yogurt instead of mayo (there is no low/no fat mayo in Taiwan that I can find LOL).

Food Issues pre-op what to do post-op?

I really like Greek yogurt with Stevia and I buy frozen blueberries. I put them in the microwave for a few seconds and they get all juicy. Mix it all together and it's like a dessert for me. It's very yummy. some people put sf jelly in there too. There are a lot of things you can do to make Greek yogurt very good. And they do make already flavored ones, but they have more carbs. Tiffy is right though. the sf cheesecake pudding makes it taste very good! There is a good chance your tastes will change after surgery. Many people say things they never liked before, they really like now.
  10. 6 weeks out and I can't finish one of the Oikos yogurt, let alone two. I usually manage about 3/4 of a yogurt over the span of 20 minutes.
  11. I was told anything that would pass through a straw (but not to use the straw. I had protein shakes, water, propel zero, tea, drinkable yogurt (highly recommended by my nut) and I added Unjury protein powder to every kind of broth and creamed soup I could find....diluted and strained the cream soups.

veggies after protein for small portions

Have you tried eating veggies between meals, does that bother you? I don't have the problems you are having, so I am not sure what the best advice would be. Also for nutrients, you could try fruit. If you are worried about carbs, stick to things like berries. I like mixing strawberries with Greek yogurt so I am getting protein in and fruits in. If you are getting the slimmies, you may be eating a little too much. I know 3-4 ounces doesn't sound like much, but if I ever get sick, it is because I ate too much too fast. Do you get protein in from other sources?? Sorry I am not much help, hopefully you can find a solution!
  13. Overall, I'm feeling alright. I'm kind of learning the dos and don'ts for my body. I made the mistake of letting my brain be on autopilot just a little bit ago and tried to stand up from my chair without putting my hands on the armrests and pushing up - big mistake! I freaked for a second when I got an inch of the chair and fell back down with abdominal pain, but I think I just strained myself a bit and it's down to a normal level of pain now. Getting used to not being hungry is kind of strange. I was a big portion eater pre-surgery and now it's taking me about an hour to get down like 4oz of yogurt. It's different, but good. I'm having a bit of trouble getting all my Water in, but it's on my list of things to work on tomorrow =) How many appointments have you had so far? Do they have you on a pre-op diet?
  14. Thanks so much for the replies. I will look into the Isopure, I've read about that before. I can definitely work with a high protein/low carb diet, I'll do some looking online for some ideas. I'm thinking eggs, greek yogurt, grilled chicken and salad, etc. Thanks!

    whoa

I am also at 1200 a calories a day but typically only reach about 1000. The essential is that reach my fluid and protein goals each day. At day 11 I can already eat cottage cheese, crab flakes, and greek yogurt.

    Constipation

I had surgery a week ago on the 28th. Are you in pain or at least passing gas? It took me three days to pass gas (was burping like crazy though) and five days post op to have a BM if you'd call it that. Yesterday was my first 'real' BM. Only after integrating yogurt and such did anything start to happen for me. If you're concerned or very uncomfortable contact your surgeon and see what they'd recommend.

    Food help!

I was encouraged to have drinkable yogurt starting day 4 to help replace normal flora. Nut didn't care if it was FF, you can't possibly take in enough calories at this point for that to matter. But not all yogurts are the same...read ingredients. Siggy's was the best option I found, with Kefir coming in second. The rest were way too sweet for me and more geared towards making parents "think" they are giving their kids a healthy snack when it's actually loaded with sugar. As for the frozen Protein drink idea, that's all I ever did. Never once had a store-bought SF Popsicle. And I make protein "ice cream" all the time with Protein powder, milk, Greek yogurt and Torani syrups. Just finished a batch of banana with chopped peanuts and started a batch of red velvet cake with Carmel syrup and chopped walnuts. I think I'll do mint chocolate next.

    Stages of textures

I had four weeks of full liquids, four weeks of purees, and then four months of soft foods. "Soft foods" = you can cut it easily with a fork. Purees - everything had to be run through a food processor unless it already had a pureed texture, such as poached eggs, refried Beans, yogurt, and cottage cheese. We also had lots of rules about the types of foods to eat (no grains or other high carb/low Protein foods etc.), how much to eat, how often to eat, and so on.
  19. I am a couple months post op and find myself snacking again. My doctor still makes me get at least 60-90 grams of liquid Protein a day so I really try to sip protein all day long. It's hard but I really try. I find that I snack most at night, especially if it's late night in front of the TV and I KNOW it's from boredom and bad habits. Here are some of my snacking foods (I am trying to cut down), 1. Liquid Protein first to see if that takes away the craving - I use Profect Protein Bullets (Blue Raspberry) with Cherry/Pomegranate Crystal Light, or Syntax nectar Fuzzy Navel Protein powder, or Unjury's chocolate Protein Powder 2. Fage Greek Yogurt with Honey 2. Jif Peanut Butter to go cups 3. costco Humms w Skinny Pretzel sticks (only 5) May
  20. I will be a month out on the 23rd and I still can't finish one full triple zero yogurt. I start feeling full towards the end of it. Same when I eat 3-4oz of cottage cheese or some Jello. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Meat Just Ain't What It Used To Be

I've found that I really like my chicken either grilled or boiled with a little Water and some spices. I also am a fan of salad dressings now in a way that I never was before! I keep some ranch, vidalia onion, and italian dressing in the fridge at all times. The italian dressing is great to use instead of oil to cook chicken. Egg Face says that the key to eating meat after WLS is moisture, and she's right. She makes tons of different sauces/dips for her meat and that inspired me to keep the dressings on hand. I also like yogurt (unflavored greek right now) because I can mix in seasonings if I want something "italian" or "mexican" flavoried. There are tons of pre-seasoned meats for sale in the freezer section, but I usually will read the ingredients to see how something is prepared and then try to re-create that item at home. I also buy frozen wings, legs and thighs and will cook one or two at a time because I find the serving sizes on most prepared frozen dinners are too big for me now. THAT's a huge change from pre-op when I felt like they were way too small! Oh, and I really love Beans now. They weren't my favorite before surgery, but now I'll throw some beans in the crockpot and eat them alone or with a small piece of meat for lunch or dinner. Yummy!! Each of us learns what works for us by trial and error, so don't be afraid to experiment.

    Stricture

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I had surgery May 28th. SW 244, current weight 197. I am just struggling with getting enough protein and eating more solid foods. I am living on cottage cheese, string cheese, yogurt and fish.
