    Pain?!?!

I was told that it was muscle tissue healing. had the same kind of pain last week and a few days later it just eased up. Now it's just about gone and I'm able to bend and turn on either side when I'm laying down. I walk a lot and I feel that helped a lot. Hope you feel better soon Had my surgery on June 17.

    Dry Mouth

You're probably drinking like 1/3 what you used to. Mine was dry all the time for maybe 3 months post op, at 5 months I still have occasional issues with it. All you can do is drink drink drink. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.2
  4. Hey guys! Just on Week 5 now (Post Op) and made a Lamb Casserole in my Slow Cooker. I accidentally ate about 4 pieces of the Lamb and forgot completely about chewing it properly. About ten minutes later I realised after I felt a bit of discomfort in my chest. Fast forward about 40 minutes later and I PB'ed about 6 times, i found it easy to throw it up but it took a while to get it all out Im feeling fine now but should I do anything like drink liquids for a while, a few times i found it hard to throw up the lamb and kept bringing up what I was drinking so i dont know if it affects the lapband or stoma in anyway? Any help or advice is appreciated
  5. Have your surgery prior to your surgery- yo7 will be on weight restriction a minimum of 6 weeks after surgery.🎱🏆

    allways hungry

Yes only a week out and feel like other than residual surgical pain and the money it cost me the surgery did nothing. I'm hungry. Not head hunger. I don't like sweets. I hate milk products. No more protein shakes please. I want a nice salad. I was losing weight really well, now nothing. My rationale for the surgery was historically gaining it back. Now I just want a greek salad with fat free dressing and to return to losing 5 pounds a week.
  7. I am a week and a half post op and I feel like my mouth is so dry! Its driving m e crazy...Protein drinks dry me out...juice drys me out...so I've been drinking water but it only lasts for a couple mins. Is there anything I can do for this? Is this normal after surgery?

    Soft Foods!

How Many weeks out are you? I would even try taking one bite and wait about 5 min. My first "soft" foods was nearly the first time I vomited and ate less than 3 oz. good luck!!!

    NUTS!

I have let the holiday stress get to me and I'm really disappointed in myself. Work is stressful and all the extra activities in the evenings has me so busy I'm not organized anymore and very fatigued. I always have nuts as my snack in the evening and now I have realized that I'm consuming way too many. I'm grazing!! YIKES! I'm eating on the run almost every day because of necessity. And we won't even go into all the extra food at all the events (I've been doing well in that regard). The buck stops here. I have no nuts in the house as of today. If I can't control them I can't have them. Getting rid of the ones at work as well. I brought hummus today for my snack. I'm hoping that when the holidays are over and things go back to a "normal busy" I won't struggle as much with wanting to graze. I want to go back to a few months ago when I had to remind myself to eat. Mindful eating is what I'm going to practice. Just wanted to get this out there. I know what to do, I just have to be mindful and DO IT! (I wish it were as easy as it sounds). Oh....and I bought myself an elliptical...it gets delivered next friday. Merry Christmas to me!!! I'm very psyched about this! You would all have gotten a chuckle if you could have seen me at Sears. They had about a dozen ellipticals on the floor. This 300 pounder was on every one! Then I narrowed it down to 3 and got back on each of them a couple of times. By the time I had made my decision I was WORN OUT! LOL But I'm excited. I consider it an investment in my health and my future. Take home message...NO MORE NUTS! NO MORE GRAZING!
  10. Thanks. I needed all these answers. Going in 2 weeks

  12. One thing that I wonder is if people who are younger -- 20's and 30's -- lose more weight and lose it faster. After reading boards for weeks -- months -- I've noticed that many of the people with the most drastic weight success stories are younger. I know that when I hit 45, my weight redistributed. I had about a 12 pound weight gainover the period of about a year without any change in my diet or exercise (which was highly frustrating); in fact I actually started eating less. But then the gaining stablized and my weight has been very constant for the last several years. But where the weight is has changed. There was a subtle but definite thickening of my mid-section that I have never had before. I definitely eat less and exercise more than I did in my early 40's but I don't lose weight. Grrrr! So, I wonder if this middle age spread will make it harder to lose the overall weight. I see people who have gotten down to small sizes and am so impressed. But I have to admit that seems completely impossible for me. Don't get me wrong -- I will be thrilled to loose any weight, but the dream of really reaching my goal weight after I have the surgery in a couple weeks still seems like that -- a dream. But there is that little voice that says 'If you are willing to do something so permanent and drastic, it sure better pay off!' Of course, the same voice often tells me that it's impossible, that I'll be the one person that the sleeve doesn't work for, that I would lose weight if I would just try harder, etc. (So I'm working to ignor the little voice, which is continually so negative!) Any thoughts? Observations? Experiences?
  13. So I was banded on June 8th, doctors and nurses said I did great was sitting up and walking pretty fast. I am really gassy inside and walking and gasx helps some but I still feel really gassy inside. My back is starting to hurt too but I can sleep on my side that the port is not on. I can walk and eating is fine. I've been monitoring portions and calories. I have water, lowfat no sugar smoothies, a little gatorade, broth, cream of chicken soup, popsicles and broth. I don't eat much and try to keep hydrated. With the liquid diet for 2 weeks and my post op, I've list 20lbs do there awesome!! Not for one second do I regret this and I am soooo happy to change my lifestyle. I look forward to meal planning, trying new recipes, exercising, skinny sex!! Clothes shopping!! Did anyone else's back hurt, in the middle? I'm trying to avoid pain meds now so I don't get constipated. Any advice would be appreciated? Also on the gas? Trying to get it out? My starting weight was 250 and I'm at 230 right now, Dr's appt Friday and meeting with nutritionist then too. I plan on seeing mine for the next few months to keep building healthy eating habits and keep me extra accountable. Hope everyone is doing well!!

    6/8 Banded, Day...4?

Hi there, I was banded on may 31st & the gas pain in my back was killer too. It even still hurts sometimes at night. A heating pad or those bean bags you put in the microwave helped me a great deal. Something about the heat, it helps distribute the gas. Gas x did not help me at all. My liquid diet was only 4 days so I was able to take my pain pills at night w/ a little yogurt. I'm not a big pain medicine person either but I did take at night to be more comfortable. Congratulations:). It's a big step. Your going to do great. Just take it slow. I'm almost 2 weeks out & I'm feeling pretty good. I have 1 incision that is a little tender but that's it. I can't have a fill for 6 weeks & I am getting hungrier. I'm trying to eat every 3 hours to help with that. My doc is pretty liberal with eating & foods so weightloss hasn't been drastic. I only did clear for a week & in the 4 day post op I could do soft. Which I was grateful for. Good luck & I'm glad your feeling good'

    6/8 Banded, Day...4?

Awesome! You are doing great! Congrats on the band! To everyone! I'm sort of on the same track........my band slipped and I was "fixed" on 6/6, so it's just like the first time, which was 3 years ago. The gas pains finally are gone today! They lasted forever! I am on liquids, full, 2 weeks! Eek! But back to the protein shakes. Thank God I like them again cuz 3 years ago I'd had enough! LOL My husband went to Whole Foods and they have sooooo many great soups they make in-house, and he asked them to strain one for me. The guy thought we were weird, but once we told him we wanted it put thru a colander and just to buy the liquids he did it for us. Yum! Sooooo much better than the canned stuff and of course better than plain broth. And why should I throw out the solids I want strained out? Better to buy all liquid. Good luck! Thanksgiving:)

I had a great time with my family. Everyone pitched in so I wouldn't have to cook the whole meal. I ate a few bites of Turkey, sweet potato, and stuffing. Chewed it into mush. I am 4 weeks post op.
  17. Has anyone that hasn't lost like they thought they should, found that a medication they were on was responsible? I know some medications cause weight gain, appetite changes, etc. I take Paxil and oral birth control and am wondering if either of these or possibly both are partly to blame for my EXTREMELY slow weight loss (banded 18 mos and down 15 pounds!!!!)

    Strange?

It's been a month since my sleeve. I did the liquid diet for a week, then full liquids for another. Ever since that, I'm been good with most solid food. I do chew it into a complete pulp, but no problems at all. I have not had any kind of pasta, pizza, soft breads or tomato products. Worried they will make me sick. Is it normal to have no foods that give me no problems? I have been losing, about 40 lbs since the week pre op diet.

    Any 8/14 patients?

I had my surgery on 8/13 and I'm not allowed to touch anything but clear liquids for the first week. It's so hard to get all that liquid down I can't imagine adding protein too. Good luck and I hope you find something good!
  20. Just an update... Dr Aceves, dr campos, staff, and Almater has been such a good experience. Everything is very well organized, staff is very attentive, and its very clean and modern. I am comforted staying in the hospital for 3 days. I had my surgery on Wednesday. I did get sick from the morphine, but that is expected for me. When I was nauseous or in pain my needs were met immediately. I was able to rest and if you need a sleeping pill just ask. I had my blue dye test yesterday. I had to nap in between drinking. I was mostly afraid of hurting my stomach. Today I had my barium swallow test. It was very cool to see. I took a big gulp and you could see it exiting my stomach. No problems. Hotel lucena was very nice. I was exhausted the first day. i couldnt sleep very well the night before leaving. Try to sleep the night before if you can. It truly will be fine . The van you take to mexicalli is a new Honda minivan. I did have to wait a little at the airport but I just called the number and let them know what I was wearing ect. I did overpack. I have been wearing pjs because I feel more comfortable. As far as pain it does hurt at time. The gas in your stomach and abs is uncomfortable but you can ask for pain meds and walk. I have been trying to stay on top of the pain.. Again just ask. I know we all have taken different paths to get to the same results. This is truly the best for me. Sorry for the rambling but ask if you have any questions! There is a bariatric wing at almater for dr aceves patients. Everyone I talk to has been wonderful and feeling good. It's nice to have this little community to recover with.

I am really craving a salad

The problem with getting your food marching orders from this forum is that you are going to hear about twenty different post-op eating plans, and maybe just tempted to go with the one you like the best. My post-op eating plan was NO RAW VEGGIES AT ALL until six months after surgery. Somehow I get the feeling you won't be wanting to jump on board with my plan At ten weeks post op I was allowed to eat green veggies, but only if they were soft enough that they could be cut easily with a fork. So, I rarely ate them because mushy veggies gross me out. I am allowed salad now, of course, but rarely choose it: it's nutritionally not a good deal when you consider how little protein you get versus how much stomach space it takes up. Give me a rare steak or a piece of delicious grilled swordfish any day instead. And that's only in restaurants -- I don't think about having salad at home, ever. I live alone and there is no way I could eat my way through the raw veggies I'd have to buy for a salad, even if I ate salad for every meal for days, before they all turned brown and slimy.

    My Monthy Weight Loss Update!!!

Wow, you are doing awesome! I am in my 3rd week and have lost 10 lbs since surgery. I was 258 when I started my pre op diet, 249 on surgery day and now weigh 239. I was 272 at Christmas and managed to get down to 258 by October. Took a long time on my own even with going to the gym 3-4 times a week and also working out with my trainer.
  24. Hi hoping someone where can help. I just had my final meeting with my doctor and scheduled my revision RNY to DS. 2 years ago my insurance denied my revision so I am 100% self pay. I got all my payment information today and the woman at the doctor's office told me she would need to "run the insurance info through" for the hospital just so they have the denial info? huh? the LAST thing I want is for my insurance company to have any info on this surgery. I majorly understand the risks of any complications in the hospital and being responsible for the costs personally since I am paying for the initial surgery. I understand that risk and am willing to take it. I also understand that if I go home a few days or weeks later sometype of complication happens, that I should be able to run that through insurance and have it be covered (different medical coding). So with all this being said the LAST thing I want is for the insurance company to have any inkling of this surgery Has anyone ever had this experience? I am very concerned now that she said that this morning and I cannot think of anything else...any insight would be appreciated.
  25. I was a week in from starting soft foods stage and I went away for the weekend. This ment resturants and breakfast buffets at the hotel. I did great, had a thai appetizer and bbq shredded meat for dinners and got a lunch and multiple snacks out of both. Only needed a spoonful of scrambled eggs for breakfast. I guess I was very surprised how easy it was. Also found I had more energy for walking doing things. It seems it gets easier and easier each week. 5'10 Sleeved 9/25/17 HW: 309 SW: 278 CW: 246 GW: 190
