  1. That is a tricky question. Some dr. will do the removal and revision at the same time..... but it all depends on what he finds when they open you up. Some times the scaring it too bad to do all at once. Some make you wait 3-6 months. Removal was a piece of cake. I had to have mine removed march 23, 2017. I was at 143lbs and had been there for 7+ years. So when they removed it, he would not do a revision because insurance didn't cover the removal and for sure would not cover a revision. Plus.... I didn't weigh enough. I'm 5'2". I searched tons of places and got the same response. I was about to head to Mexico for revision when i happen to find a dr. right here 10 mins from my work....... No, the insurance still didn't cover it and i was now at 173.5lbs and 31 BMI. But because i was a "revision" (2.5+ years later) and i was cash pay ($14k)... the sleeve was done 8/28/19. He said when he opened me up.... my stomach looked great. Very very little scarring. I did, however, have a hiatal hernia i didn't know about. Since i have lost 31.5lbs... and i'm sitting at 142 which is 1lbs less then when i had the band removed. The SX was the easiest i ever had. Zero pain and was back to work on Monday.

    Crazy personal question

when i first started my journey back in 2009 with the band. I was 232lbs with 44G/H boobs. Lost 89lbs and went to a 34H. My boobs stayed exactly the same, my band changed 10". Lost the band in 2017, had gone up to a 36H..... fast forward, revised to sleeve 8/28/19.....back to the 34H. Yes the sag a little, but the nips are still looking forward and not at my toes.

    Food Before and After Photos

Yea a lot of countries make them for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New years. Its one of the foods I look forward to during the holidays :) Its definitely a labor of love! Although I have no energy after makings tons, I get to catch up with my family and eat good after so I try to look on the bright side lol. But Im not going to lie, the thought of buying sounds better to me. I'm just too scared to bring it up. I can already see the dirty looks! lol Almost every Latin American country has their own tamale and within the country each region uses different ingredients. They also vary by shape and color. Mexican ones are good but some of my favorites are from South America. I have yet to try each one, there are just too many. In Peru there's like 10 different kinds and I've only tried two.
  4. Hi Lori! I just found this app today. I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on Dec 10th. 2019. I just started my 2 week Optifast Diet . Sent from my SM-G920W8 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. I had my Band removed on 5/31. Dr. wouldn’t even talk Gastric Bypass until after 3 months. Then two weeks after my first appointment to talk about revision , I had my first really awful Gallstone attack. I ended up having it removed on 10/18. So now I’m going to get all my pre-submission appts. I’ve met with the Dietician, have Sleep Study scheduled for 12/16. Waiting to hear on Psych visit. Once all of those are done, he’ll review and the submit to insurance. I have no clue how long it takes to be approved. I’ve got to start making headway on weight loss. He never gave me a % to lose.

yep - a lot of us automatically seem to gain 10-20 lbs during year 3. I'd be careful with trying to put on weight, to be honest....

    First signs of gallstones?

About a month ago, so 10 weeks post-op, I was sitting at my desk at work and had a sudden, sharp, severe pain on my right side underneath my rib cage. I had to put my head down and close my eyes and just breathe through it. It lasted about 20 minutes. I haven't had any issues since then, but I think that must've been a gallstone.
  9. Must be bad! Try the other half of the bottle. I've never had it fail to work for me. Talking 10+ times.

    Highest weight

What’s funny is that as I continue to go, I’m still slowly losing. I truly thought I was “done” when I blew through all of my weight loss goals, and now I realize that my body is going to continue to do this thing for a bit longer. I’m now 148 and therefore will try to defend 145-150 as my window to stay in. What’s funny is just 2 weeks ago, I had adjusted my window to 150-155. Seeing as I’m not even 10 months post-op, I can see a scenario where I start trying to defend 140-145. It’s strange to think that I’m almost feeling as if I need to justify my lower numbers. Some of it I’m sure is that I’ve been MO for 20+ years, but there’s also a bit in there that is in shock at the changes and is somewhat in denial that this is really my body that has gotten this small. Another part might stem from being afraid to wish for or ask for “too much”. Why I shouldn’t be deserving of a nice BMI as much as the next person will probably take several therapy sessions, lol

    Sleeve failure??

I'm one who considers that seems my sleeve has 'failed' :(. I was sleeved on 6/21/19, HW216, SW 209, CW 178, so total weight loss including pre-op liquid phase = 38 lbs. I belong to a couple of FB groups, and when I post my concerns with such slow weight loss, the pat response is "trust the process" and "have patience". I log on myfitnesspal every calorie I ingest. I follow my doctor/nutritionist guideline of about 1000-1100 calories/day. Protein first and foremost, very little carb or sugar. I've always drank only water & 2 cups of coffee a day. I brisk walk and move more than ever (I was a couch potato pre-op). My weight log shows I've lost 17 lbs in 4 months. The bulk of my 38 lb loss was during pre-op & post-op liquid diet. I've only lost 3 lbs in the last 2 months. I was so super excited for this surgery. Took seriously my 6 months prep, did my research, understood and didn't expect this to be a 'magic cure'. But didn't think I'd be losing only less than 1/2 lb a week by month 3! Help, I'm losing hope and really worry ~ maybe doctor didn't really sleeve me? Maybe he only repaired my hernia?

    The Maintenance Thread

I posted this question on another thread because I'm not sure if I'm in the "still losing" or "maintenance" part of my journey...not sure how to know when one is done and the other begins! So, here's my question and I would love any advice...thanks for the others who did answer on the other thread!! And, thanks in advance to anyone here! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm trying to decide if I should continue trying to lose more weight or be satisfied with where I am. I will be asking my doctor in a few weeks, but curious what you folks think. Had VSG surgery in Aug, 2018 and lost about 90# in the first 6 months; have lost another 5# during the next 10 months. Am 66 yrs old, 5' 2", BMI=26.2, currently weigh 143# but my goal has been 130# because I weighed that for 30 years before I got overweight. The "normal" BMI for me (24.9) is below 136#. I now wear a size 4-6, exercise every other day (1 hr of fast power walking & 1 hr of weight lifting) and eat about 800 kcal/day. My bad knees won't allow me to run. I have excess skin under my arms, thighs, butt and abdomen but I don't have any way to know how much it weighs...easily hidden by clothing. I'm pretty muscular but not sure how much that weighs either. It just seems crazy that I'm still in the "overweight" BMI category and I'm just not sure what more I can do to lose another 7-13#. Any thoughts from those more experienced than me?

    OOTD

Good morning ladies. I’m ready for my one day of work this week. You can’t see my shirt in this OOTD, but it’s special. My baby girls last day as a 10 year old. I hope you all have a great day.
  14. Just a thought, anytime we go to Cancun at our resort and excursions we only drink bottled water. When your in the hospital is the water /ice chips filtered or bottled. Be very careful brushing your teeth I would bring a small mouthwash and use that instead of tap water. All kinda research done on flying post op. The recommendations are never ever a window seat always an Aisle. So given a choice do that seating. Reason being window seat you tend to not get up, middle seat you are also compressed on each side and try to make yourself smaller by keeping your arms pulled in. Aisle seat you have one side free and flying postoperative you should get up every half hour and walk the aisle. Some type of compression socks if not nylons to help with circulation to avoid blood clots. Everyone should do this flying get up every half hour for 5 minutes, driving every 2 hours get out of the car and walk around for 10 minutes. Flights 4hours driving 6 hours put you at higher risk of clots. Again good luck
  15. Stomach fat is the most difficult one to reduce. Requires a lot of discipline. Do daily planks - start with one min plank - 5 times a day. Increase it to 2 min plan after two weeks - 5 times a day. Do it daily. Get to 3 min planks 5 times a day every day after the following two weeks. You need to spend 15 mins in your entire day. Secondly do stomach crunches - 50 a day and split it by 10 at a time. Get to 100 A day in 3 weeks and continue for rest of your life. You will see amazing difference in couple of months. stop beer or fatty foods. If you are gym person, an hour of any exercise will keep you fit and active.

So you would have to drink 8-10 cups of milk each day to meet minimal protein requirements. Are you able to do this?

  18. WELCOME, CRYSTAL!! I was one of the lucky ones with very little pain. I had my surgery on 7/22/2019. I spent 1 night in the hospital. I had some discomfort, but no real pain. I took a pain pill the 1st night home. After that, Tylenol for a couple of nights, then nothing. You are not alone! There are lots of us here who can give you a ton of support, suggestions & answers to any questions. Don't be afraid to ask! One of my favorite teachers used to say, "The only stupid question is the unasked one!"
  19. Hi and welcome!! I'm sorry it's been a painful experience. I had no issues at all. Recovering from my gall bladder surgery hurt worse. 20. Hello! I started my journey of weigh in's and appointments to get the gastric sleeve May 2018. I lost 30 pounds on my own by July 2018. I refused to use diet pills. i started out at 339.8lbs March 2018. by October 2018 I was 247lbs. I live in Panama City, Florida. Hurricane Michael ripped through my town as a category 5. I was displaced until August 2019 when I purchased my new house. I was on a roll until this Hurricane. I was unable to weigh in the last two months of my process (October and November) as there was no power or water for 4 weeks after the hurricane. And most buildings were destroyed. I have since gained a little bit of the weight back while trying to maintain for so many months while going through the healing process of this horrible natural disaster. One week ago I started the process again. In an attempt for them to let me pick up where I left off in the process seeing as it was not my fault that I could not weigh in for two months. I'm going to a metabolic center in Tallahassee and I am super excited to continue on in my weight loss journey using this tool to help me continue to loose more weight. If you have any advice for me prior to surgery or after I would greatly appreciate it.
  21. Hi I'm Crystal. I'm new on here. I had my sleeve surgery done 11/15/19. But I feel so alone in my experience. The first night in the hospital was traumatizing, I experienced pain like no other. The pain I had was almost like my entire stomach contracted and it was horrific to feel!!! So I was kept there for the whole weekend. I've been home now and I've been okay. Turning at night and finding a "comfortable"position is nearly possible. Has anyone else had a hellish recovery process ?!?! Or is mine abnormal?! And the whole "days 3 to the 6th day are the worst", is no joke! Ahhh please tell me I'm not the only one in this painfulness

  23. I am going to really concentrate on getting my water in. I know it could mean I will eat less. Right now I drink a 10 oz. cup of coffee, a 16 oz. glass of crystal light (with Benefiber) first thing in the morning. I am getting to the point that I get some pain (fullness) if I drink to fast, so it is hard to hydrate!

    1 Month Anniversary

Usually WLS patients tend to stall around week 3 to 4. I did for sure. Make sure you are getting your water in and walking. I am 10 weeks out and I started upping my calories as best I could. I am still only getting from 400 to 775 a day. I am concentrating on getting my water and protein in.
