Two weeks post op...how much water weight is there?
orangesali posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm two weeks and two days out and have just barely lost 5 pounds. I'm not really ever hungry- mostly just mental cravings I think. I've been eating Soup pretty religiously and now added FF plain Greek yogurt and FF/SF pudding, adding in GENEPRO Protein powder get me to 60g of protein. On my worst day I'm still eating less than 800 calories. Not sure why more isn't coming off, but my doctor didn't seem too concerned. I've got to believe that it'll come off soon, right? Note: I did lose 50 pounds pre-surgery but not sure if or how that would affect me post-op. -
Sleeved 09/06/16. Started 266 pre-op. Funny, at my post op apt now waiting to be seen by the surgeon. Lost 79lbs so far. Biggest challenges: 1. hair loss 2. Iron deficiency, 3. Not getting enough Protein in my diet. 4. Feel tired Food: 1. Love lactose free milk w/ decaf coffee2. Roasted chicken 3. Avocados 4. Kind bars 5. eggs 6. Peanut Butter 7. Spinach-cooked. 8. GENEPRO great stuff! Scared to eat salad. Will wait until 6 months post to try. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I don't think the taste is bad at all, SassyMedic. I put it in Kool Aid and in broth, and I even made a great decaf chai tea the other day with it and added a small amount of vanilla Premier Protein shake to finish it off. I made the hot tea the night before with Celestial brand Decaf Mountain Chai 3 bags and let it sit out at room temp all night. Then I woke in the morn and out the tablespoon of GENEPRO in. It looked clumpy but I kept mixing with a fork and then went to take a shower. When I was done with the shower it was completely dissolved and no clumps, added the vanilla shake and put it in a coffee mug to take to my therapist appt. over 30g protein in that puppy and it was delicious! My Doctors nutritionist approved GNC lean shake 25. They fit the requirements and taste great. They have ready mixed and powder. Different flavor. After surgery to get more Protein in I'm going to see if using GENEPRO tasteless protein and add it to shakes. I will be able to get my protein in. Hope this helps. Tastes better than premiere or muscle milk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm not Mian, LOL but the key to mixing any Protein powder with hot liquids is to mix it with a little bit of warm Water or milk until it dissolves and then mix that into the hot liquid. I've used genepro. I followed the directions. There is a difference between how you add it in depending on whether it's hot or cold. Sometimes I'd put it in the nutribullet to blend well. Just make sure if it's a hot liquid to allow enough space to allow for the heat.

@@Raymia here's all the samplers I ordered: https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/protein-powders/products/syntrax-nectar-protein-powder-sampler-variety-bag-15-flavors https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/protein-powders/products/bariatric-fusion-meal-replacement-single-serving-packet-variety-pack https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/protein-powders/products/bariatricpal-fruit-protein-drinks-variety-pack https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/protein-powders/products/bariatricpal-variety-shake-pudding-7-packets-per-box http://www.unjury.com/products/unjury-starter-kit.html https://www.gotein.com/sample-pack I also have not tried these, but another place that's offering sample sizes is: https://truenutrition.com/p-7425-tn-proteinflavor-sample-packs.aspx I've also been told you can go to some health food stores like Vitamin Shoppe or GNC and they'll let you try some of the Protein powders/drinks, but I haven't tried that myself. It's a lot, and I didn't order them all at once, but I was glad I did. A lot of them, I just couldn't stomach. This was a LOT less wasteful than ordering stuff I hadn't tried. I am VERY picky about tastes/textures so I knew I couldn't just grab something off the shelf. Oh, and I also got a sampler of ready-made Premier Protein from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Premier-Protein-Chocolate-Vanilla-Strawberry/dp/B01LWU0BP5/ref=sr_1_9_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1481650883&sr=8-9&keywords=premier+protein+flavors The other option a lot of people go with is just getting the unflavored stuff and adding it into other liquids and foods. I found that the Syntrax and GENEPRO unflavored affect the taste/texture the least. Some of the samplers have unflavored to try. Some people don't trust the Genepro hype (more available protein than should be available by mass) but I haven't found any reason not to use it. Good luck!!

Hi Mian , do you know if GENEPRO mixes well with hot coffee. Everything curdles on me. Sent from my LG-K330 using the BariatricPal App

SassyMedic GENEPRO isn't completely tasteless and there may be some clumping. I slowly mix it in and if there are clumps let them sit for a few minutes and then keep mixing until there aren't anymore visible clumps. Hope you're feeling great soon! I'm POD 4 and still sore, but I don't think I've taken it easy enough. I relaxed a lot today. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

daya replied to iamstacey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a bypass surgery on 8th November, I think that lost weight is base on each individual on the first month I lost 39% of my goal weight but now am in a stall. For your Protein problem I highly recommend you GENEPRO the stuff is great you can mix it with anything cold or hot even your regular meals one scoop is 30g so it is easy for me to get my protein intake with the help of the supplement. They sale it at GNC look for reviews if you want to make sure before you expend the money because is a little pricy Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Genepro Flavorless Protein Powder
Heidijenn posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Everyone, I just had my surgery on Dec. 8th and I read on here that if you call the Genepro flavorless protein powder phone number you can get a free sample, does anyone have that number or know where I can get it? I don't want to buy a whole bag and not like it, even though everyone says it's great! -
Diet After Surgery
ShelterDog64 replied to Casds84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program stresses a minimum Protein level, but no calorie counting until I'm in maintenance. I log my food so I know how many calories I'm getting daily, but I'm not living by that calorie count. I do work to get my protein, as it's pretty clear that a low protein diet combined with rapid weight loss can result in loss of muscle...I don't want that. I'm eating a pretty balanced diet, low on grains but not grain-free. I've eaten Beans, veg and some fruit from one month out, again this is all 'plan approved', and I use GENEPRO to bolster my protein intake. I don't think your plan is all that far from what a lot of us are eating, honestly. I kind of laugh at any doctor who thinks he/she has some revolutionary approach to eating...it's all been done, many of us here on this website have done most of it, and different plans work for different people. It sounds like yours is great for you and that's what really matters! -
Casds84 the GENEPRO. Smart move it can mix well with most things and it has not taste Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How do I manage to get enough protein daily!?
justhere4theshow replied to mandrey's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My favorite is Dannon Triple Zero yogurt with a scoop of Genepro unflavored protein powder added. If it's not sweet enough you can add a touch of stevia. Basically, you may need to just add protein powder to everything possible. You should be eating protein at every meal or snack, and eat it first. My best weight loss has happened when I finally got enough protein consistently. You can still lose weight without it, but you risk losing muscle mass. It is helpful if you can get protein in your liquids if you're falling short with your food. Good luck to you! -
I can still have eggs and cheese, Nonfat Greek yogurt, and FairLife milk. I asked about those. And I got GENEPRO to add to smoothies or other foods. I'm still going to cover my tush to at least get Protein. I'm just basically saying I was stressed not to count nutritional numbers. I wanted to see if my program was similar to everyone else's. Regardless, I have to follow their plan, he's my only choice of doctor and I have to drive nearly 6 hours to see him lol. But they have been doing this program many years, so I just hope it works. Something must be right if they are still in business and have nearly a 5 star rating. I was just a bit shocked is all. Still a bit lost as to exactly where to start on the bean portion. I've never been much of a bean eater lol. Guess I will learn. I have Beano on hand at least lol! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Thanks. I always heard the Protein was a big deal. But when all of them said counting protein was unnecessary and "malarkey" (their word lol), I was shocked. Other people were shocked when I told them my program. They said any fruit I want, any bean I want, but black Beans were best, and they didn't get into vegetables much, but I'm going to assume potatoes are a no, as I can't have white bread or wheat/whole wheat bread. Luckily, I'm not much of a bread eater, and Pasta is only on occasion. I assumed it was contradicting to several programs, which is why I had questions. But apparently from what I gather, he (the main doctor) has had lots of success with the program (he's vegetarian himself, but I'm still going to enjoy fish/seafood and a few other lean meats). I hope I do get good results. I mean, it will be nice to not have to count, but I had literally tons of low carb recipes saved up because that was my plan. Now I have to put time into researching this one. I just basically want to see if anyone else had heard of something similar to this. I did, however, get GENEPRO to add to fruit/veggie smoothies to cover my bases! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Best Unflavored Protein
busybeebug replied to khope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Genepro is my go to. Mixed in thin cold drinks for me doesn't work. I love it in hot tea with milk and sugar. It mixes well in V8 or tomatoes juice. I put it in eggs, oatmeal and yogurt too. -
Best Unflavored Protein
Corrie2016 replied to khope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like GENEPRO. It has really helped me get my Protein in and dissolves is most things from flavored waters to yogurt. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Bread cheese, string cheese, grilled seafood, sashimi, raw oysters, edamame, occasionally pork clouds (pork rinds made with olive oil and low processing) for a snack, unflavored Protein GENEPRO in my coffee are some of my favorites... I don't like turkey, chicken very much. I wish I did. I don't like any Protein shakes or Protein Bars but it's mainly because I've always had an anti-sweet tooth. I had my 6 month follow-up (I'm at 5.5 mos) visit yesterday with my surgical team. I've lost 76 lbs, and all my labs came back PERFECT I've been using GENEPRO for supplementing and PatchMD Vitamin Patches and clearly both are doing a great job for me. When I had surgery, I was still mildly anemic from a long 5 years of severe iron-deficiency anemia and I was taking vit D supplements for a vit D deficiency. The patches have corrected the anemia and my vit D levels have stayed where they were with oral supplementation. All in all, it was great...blood Protein levels are right where they should be, Calcium and Iron were perfect and I continue to have good energy and am steadily losing still. Just wanted to share my good news

Blending ur own smoothies during liquid phase of diet
izzy13 replied to Mariew94's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started doing my own shakes a few days out from surgery, I had a hard time getting the Premier Protein down after drinking them for a few days. I have found that when I blend the chocolate premier with ice it's like a chocolate shake and I have no problems. The Protein Shakes I made right after surgery just had Greek yogurt (I used the oikos triple zero) and plain or vanilla protein powder, if I didn't want fruit flavor from the yogurt I'd throw in some Peanut Butter and half a banana (both were allowed on my stage 2 plan). I used almond milk in these but if I had found fairlife skim milk sooner I probably would have used that instead! Now almost 2 months out I do frozen fruit with Water, stevia and a tbsp of GENEPRO. Makes about a cup and a half -but I only use 3/4 cup frozen fruit- on my way into work. According to my fitness pal it has about 130 cals and it fills me up for a couple of hours. The genepro protein is a god send I wish I had ordered it sooner. It was expensive but I was having a really hard time choking down the other protein powders I got from GNC, I have a protein powder graveyard in my cupboard lol!!! -

ugh to the liquid diet!
Christina.Rose replied to OhHeyMarina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, also....I have read a lot of people that use GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder because its 30g protein in a tablespoon.....conflicting opinions on how much protein can fit into a tablespoon.....but that would be less shake drinking and still a lot of protein.
