    Food after sleeve surgery

I don't think I would have risked that. You might want to try adding the flavorless Iso-Pure to your soups and yogurts. You can get your protein and skip the shakes

    Food after sleeve surgery

There are plenty of other choices for protein other than protein shakes that won't rip your sutures or injure your staple line. Lots of pureed foods and soft foods like cottage cheese, beans, ricotta cheese, greek yogurt, hummus and more that are high protein. Steak after 10 days post-op is simply dangerous. A piece of steak won't make up for 10 days of having no protein at all. It is about safety. Give your stomach 6 to 8 weeks to heal. I hope your doctor explained all this to you.

I just made chicken fajitas and bean puree! Grilled a seasoned chicken breast, then pureed with Greek yogurt. Made peppers and onion sauté then pureed, set aside. Layered chicken and pepper/onion puree in baby food Tupperware and topped with cheese when reheating. Made seasoned black beans with added collagen. Pureed with Greek yogurt. Into baby food containers and also topped with cheese at reheat. All the flavors!! So nice to not have to drink my food anymore. The Greek yogurt helps with added protein ad smoothness.
  4. Hello All, Newbie here, 22 days post op and can only eat half of a scrambled egg. Is that normal? Protein shakes with some fruit in the blender is easy to get my fluid in . I add ice as well. I found mozzarella cheese melts in your mouth easy. 1 oz Cottage cheese and yogurt is all I want to eat.

What do you eat at the movies?

I was told I could have popcorn after a while post op. I think if your team says to stay away from it it may be because it is a slider food (I would ask them). If I just ate from a bag or big bowl and didn’t pay attention I could eat quite a bit and restriction doesn’t kick in. Having said that, I like popcorn at the movies too. I take skinny pop with me in a ziplock and sneak it in. Ooh and if your movie theatre is in the mall it may allow you to bring actual food into the movie from the food court. Now whether you have anything descent to eat at your food court is the next question but Chick-fil-A has soup and nice salads if you have one of those and most pizza places have salads. I like to bring my own dressing when I eat salad out. I must confess I have never tried to eat salad or soup in a dark theatre though. Maybe a wrap if you have a healthier restaurant would be easier or chick fila has grilled nuggets. I don’t go to the theatre much but o have heard of people sneaking in all kinds of healthy snacks though from fruit or yogurt to veggies and dip

    6 month follow up

I have kaiser too and have questions about my diet. I just started stage 3 where it says that protein supplements no longer count as fluid needs. I called kaiser and was only able to leave a message. Can you help with my question? Does the clear protein drinks count as fluid or the isopure that I make with water count as fluid? I'm afraid I'm not going to make the protein AND fluid intake minimums at this stage. I'm worried now. The only "food" I had today was 1/2 a yogurt. Scared but excited.

    Fruit

I have only just had enough room in my tummy for fruit. I struggle with skins so peel everything. So, grapes are off my menu, no time to peel a grape. I eat 4 or 5 small meals a day and to up my calories and give me more energy, I drink a homemade milkshake every day. I still like banana and peanut butter in my milk. Breakfast is a protein yogurt with raspberries, or porridge and banana. My fav small snack is a sliced peeled apple with an ounce of cheese. I have always eaten loads of healthy fruit. I tend to buy what they label kids fruit, small apples or small snack packs of cut fruits. A normal pack means lots get wasted. No food is off my menu if I can stomach it. Will I ever eat rice, noodles or pasta again? I don't know this. I don't want to be on a diet anymore. I just want to keep my restriction to limit me.
  8. Personally I wouldn’t want to try anything new on Christmas and risk spending half the day feeling sick. You can in theory puree anything though. I have a thing with consistency so I stuck to things that are supposed to be that way like mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes. I have heard a lot of people doing pumpkin purée at thanksgiving but I would wonder about the sugar in that (may want to check with your team). They also come up with a lot of seasonal yogurts and protein shakes that could help satisfy the need for something festive.

    Fruit

bypasser here. The first few months after surgery I pretty much stuck to a few berries that I tossed on top of my yogurt - but I eat all fruits now and have ever since I hit maintenance.
  10. Hi! I’m just wondering if anyone has struggled the way I am. I had surgery October 12. I’ve not been able to stomach anything but water since. I tried choking down protein shakes, tried protein waters, protein shots. I’m now supposed to be eating six small meals per day, which can be yogurt, pudding, blended cottage cheese, or cream soups. I can’t even finish one and I’m sick for the rest of the day. Last week I saw my surgeon and was told I have thrush, post nasal drip, and was dehydrated. Was given mucinex d, diflucan, and sent to the hospital for fluids. I felt better but still unable to eat anything. Phenergan and zofran are not helping me. I’m so frustrated at this point. There have been many tears shed. I’m so sick of feeling sick. I keep telling myself this will pass and the surgery will be worth it, but I feel like I’ve ruined my stomach and will never feel good again.

Congratulations! I'm so excited for pureed stage (4 more days for me) I'm really tired of all the sweet shakes and yogurts. Ready for cottage cheese and hummus and refried beans 🤤

  13. Hello lovely people. So im confused on how every forum including my own surgeons says all different times to start things after surgery. Some day week 1-2 u can have mashed pot some say no only creamed soups some say yogurts some say You can have some normal food at week 3 please tell me what you all did or are doing . My nutritionist even is saying different then what was on post op papers . I don’t want to mess this up but if I can attempt different things that won’t affect me and is “allowed” I sorta want to. It is. I had mine on 10.11 too. I'm still on liquids the booklet I received says stage 2 is for 2 weeks and then this other paperwork I got at the hospital says 10 days. I can only have protein shakes, soups, water, jello, and Popsicles. I did blend up some soup and then put it through a strainer and pretty much nothing went through =(. I can't wait for applesauce, or yogurt even! Scared but excited.
  15. I hear ya. I think for some people, they have them open up the capsule and add it to yogurt or something. I didn't have to do that, so didn't worry about it.

    over preparing??

Those leftover two ounce disposable cups are good later on to measure hummus and sauces/ dressings and stuff. One tablespoon is 0.5 fl oz. Most sauces use two tbsp as a serving so half that cup is one serving. I carry a cooler with me when I am out and about and I always have my salad dressing so if I stop for lunch I have my own which is the yogurt dressing so it’s quite a few less calories. Now I actually carry it in a different container and I eyeball it but that is after measuring it in those containers many times first.
  18. I was advised to take them as soon as I got home (i.e., tue day after surgery). And yes, they made me nauseous…particularly the calcium pills, and the multivitamin to a lesser degree, but still quease-inducing. After a few weeks I switched to calcium chews, which where much better, and I dealt with the multivitamin as best i could (i tolerated them better when i had something in my stomach, but i ate very, very little the first month, so it was challenging. Around 2 months post, when i could stand to eat again, i would bury my multivitamin in a tbsp of greek yogurt and down it. That seemed to do the trick.

    Food log?

I use Baritastic and agree with another poster that since it is designed for toward bariatric patients it works very well for my needs, tracking important markers like protein, calcium, water, carbs, fat. It is very easy to scan the barcodes of different foods like protein shakes, applesauce, tomato soup, yogurt, etc. and keeps track of your weight lost before and since surgery, as well as inches lost. There's a section for daily notes, reminders, a timer for eating (20 minutes to chew, chew, chew!), drinking (there are two warnings for drinking: don't eat yet! and don't drink yet!). So, the way it is tailored for bariatric patients is what makes this app so great. Good luck with whatever you choose to use, I am sure they are all great!
  20. Got my sleeve done on 9/27. Finally into purée foods for my program. Doing good. Still feeling tired but getting in my walking. Have noticed some tooth sensitivity so I’ve upped how often I brush and floss and mouthwash. Definitely not going to purée meat so it’s yogurt and scrambled eggs for me! 😂

    Nausea 8 Weeks Post-op

I had a huge problem early on with nausea and vomiting. I had GERD at night, and it took about 6 months to find the right medication and dosage for me. It took me a while to find the right time in the day to take my doses for my tablets. I take one dose at 4pm and don't eat for 1 hour before and 2 hours after. I take my second dose at midnight and have nothing for 1 hour before and never eat till my breakfast protein yogurt and milky coffee. If my mouth waters I have eaten something my stomach doesn't want yet, usually chicken. I will have to vomit saliva and foam. I also had to take vitamins without any iron as the iron made me nauseous too The nasty taste disappeared when I could eat better I hope you get this sorted quicker than I did, it makes you so weak eating so little

    what surprised you?

Sometimes restriction takes a bit of time to feel. Due to cut nerves. But I get what you're saying. For me, it depends on the foods that I eat, some offer more restriction than others. Like grilled chicken, denser proteins offer more restriction than say, Greek yogurt or crockpot shredded chicken. The bypass is just a tool, and it will not do all of the work for us, which I have to be mindful of now because when I had a lap band, that thing was so restrictive that almost everything got stuck and felt dense. So when you can, choose denser proteins and weigh/measure your food so your stomach and brain learns what your new "full" feels like. I didn't lose my hunger either like a lot of people do. And I work out and lift weights and that has always made me hungrier, especially when I started weights again at 6 weeks post op. I never experienced nausea, but I know acid can cause nausea. Are you on an acid reducer?
