  1. I have a counselor who is my venting place. My family is supportive, but don't really understand. I have a friend going through her own weight loss journey, strict diet and exercise programs from her dr/Dietitian... she's been helpful and I am to her. But who are other people's support systems? Weight gain after plastics?

Wow, so happy to find this thread...I had my TT done in Feb and have gained 6 lbs and still have not lost it. I don't think it's Water weight though...I stopped wearing my compression garment after about 2 months...do you think if I started wearing it again it might help? I am happy with part of my TT (my vagina really got lifted and I like that!) and I don't have a lot of floppy skin, but my tummy is definitely not flat and my scar is like the bride of frankenstein...so trying to figure this out.

Weight Watchers and being newly banded??

One other thing about the Weight Watchers experience post-banding..... Over the years, I have seen many people on this Board comment on the fact that if you attend the live WW meetings and they are aware that you are banded, they tend to treat you not-so-nicely. It's the old "taking the easy way out" idea that many of them have, and some of them can apparently be rather rude about it. So, if you DO attend the meetings in person, consider keeping the fact that you are banded to yourself. It's information that they do not need to have, and will likely make the experience a better one. S.

    Pregnancy & the band?

I had a band baby April 2006 and it was great, I only gained 23 pounds which 2 weeks later I lost 26. I had to have a partial unfill be I wanted to be able to eat but not to much. I was very lucky that I really didnt have morning sickness so I didnt have to worry about the vomiting. My baby is now 1 1/2 and I am down to 174. (During pregnancy I went from 204 to 227)
  5. It sounds like you are doing terrific and should be thrilled with your weight loss. It is not reasonable to expect to lose 1 lb a day for any sustained time period. Initial weight loss is water weight. I was told to expect 1-2 lbs a week if you followed all the rules. I guess you could bump it up by exercising more - you didn't mention that - are you working out?

first day on lapband talk site

:smile2:i've read many encouraging posts. today i'm going to call the dr's office to set things in motion. i know i want to lose the weight & i'll do whatever it takes to get it done.
  7. Hello to all you brave souls :whoo:, My family doctor recommended Lap Band. Through research, visiting this forum, and finding the right surgeon I thought I was on my way. At the private seminar preparing me for surgery, they discussed the three options this surgeon completes. Here, I found that both the Lap Band and the Sleeve cost the same and my BMI and age make me easily eligible for both. They told me that after the healing process, Lap Band patients hunger spikes while Sleeve patients appetites remain diminished. Sleeve surgeries remove the part of the stomach that produce the majority the the hormones that elevate appetite:nervous? I really think Lab Band is the way to go for me, but am worried about appetite spikes and failure. I also worry about erosion, slippage and port problems. As well, with the Sleeve, I am very worried about leakage, and regaining the weight after the banana shaped stomach begins to stretch. I know that with the band, a fill could make all the difference if your weight begins to climb:confused:? Any encouragement, information, and support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    hello everyone

Welcome Nancy. Yeah, it's pretty exciting to be starting this journey - and it gets more exciting as time goes by. Your date will be here before you know it. You will have a much shorter wait than I did. My surgeon's office works as fast as they safely can, but there is a great demand for this and other weight loss surgeries. Just be sure you follow all your surgeon's rules for your pre-op preparation and the post-op diet and exercise limitations. The first few weeks post surgery are critical to your band healing against your tummy and the port healing in place. You may not lose a lot of weight during that 6 weeks or so, but it will all fall into place as the months go by. It's been a wonderful journey - I love my band and the results I am having. food is no longer a top priority in my life and I have so much more energy, so much less arthritis pain. I wish you good luck.

    My confusion

Ok MOST of the time I can eat with no problem... In fact I can eat most anything and lots of it... When I stepped on the scale this morning I have gained 6lbs. I have a fill scheduled on Saturday. Now the confusion. I get stuck a lot am I doing something wrong? I know I haven't been eating right but when I eat the right foods I get stuck.. Now am I in need of a fill or what? Please advise!!!!!
  10. Not in that he doesn't want me to have the surgery, but in that he thinks I will fail or quit. He keeps saying, oh you won't do it, you won't go through with it, you can't lose the 5%. :mad2: It's weird because he has been begging me to do surgery to lose weight for years, and now that I want to do it and am excited about it, he all of a sudden is being unsupportive. I have said straight to his face that I want him to encourage me but he won't do it. All he does is point out that I haven't started losing weight yet and I had pizza for dinner, and blah blah blah. Funny thing is that he decided we would have pizza for dinner tonight, but then made sure to bring it up while we were fighting. It almost seems like he did it on purpose. ' I just wish he could say things like I am proud of you for making this decision, for going to your appointments, for trying to change your life, for trying to get healthy so we can have a baby. It hurts inside every time I think about his comments. Also, my surgeon is very very big on making sure we have a support system. I don't have any friends where I live, my parents are 1000 miles away in Florida and my sister is in Japan. Here where I live, he is all I have. So now I have to go into my psych eval and my support group and lie, or else I'm afraid they won't do the surgery. :cursing:
  11. Hi, I am nana and i am knew here. I was reading your stories and my port is also flippped, my doctor has a hard time getting to it so we do it under xray. I asked him if this could cause the band not to work and he said no because he is able to acess the band. Well for the last 5 months I have not been able to loose any weight and I have had 4 fills. But he still insist that he is flling the band. Does anyone have any input on this. Thanks

    Scales are not moving!

Yes. Patience. I dropped weight like a rock before surgery, and immediately after. I am two months out and have hit a stall. I try not to think about it. I just keep doing all the stuff I am supposed to do, and behave myself. It will pick up again.

    The frustration of a plateau

Well, my weight loss has been bouncing for the last 2 weeks. I have started going up a couple of pounds and then down a couple of pounds. I know the problem isn't so much my calories eaten as it is my excercise level. I started to swim again, and got a terrible cold for the last week. I think with some regular excercise this week, I should be able to push through this. I really want to lose another 20 pounds in the next two months, so I'm going to have to get some excercise to get my metabolism going. I will start today by walking for a couple of hours, and maybe a short swim.

    Anyone NOT have a NUT?

I never saw a NUT either, I am cash pay also, so I think they do things differently for us. I would love to see a NUT. The doctor never mentioned a goal weight, and told me not to worry about exersice yet. I am 9 weeks out, and since 2 weeks out I felt great . I never felt like I had surgery other than the scars on my stomach.

    Just joined this site

:) well....this site seems to be the best info and honest feedback I've found. Seeing the nutritionist for initial consult next Tues. Then it's a 5% weight loss, about 12 lbs, and then make appt for doc. Let's hope my endoscopy and prelim tests all go well. Wish me luck that this is the start of a new life for me☆
  16. If you check the post-op section of the board, there's a stickied thread asking members how much weight (if any) they have regained since reaching goal. There's a lot of great responses there. From what I remember, those that did say they had regained, it was in the 5-10 pound range. I'd encourage you to read through all the posts there. It really helped me feel more confident in my chances for long term success.
  17. @@Djmohr Ugh. So you didn't get any relief after surgery? I am hopeful that with the weight loss will come relief. I don't get that many hot flashes anymore (still a couple a day), but I just feel like I'm constantly hot. My poor husband lost 80 lbs over the last 4 years, and he's always cold now. I keep the house at 63 at the highest...even in our northeast Ohio winter right now! I am so hot at work because they have the heat set at 74. I'm surprised I haven't gotten sick going in and out of heat and cold!
  18. Nobody has been tracking the results of the sleeve as a WLS that long yet. Give it a bit more time. I'm not certain but when I was researching I think someone posted a five year study - you might do some searching and see if you can find anything on VST about it. Regain is possible with any surgery. The big benefit the sleeve has over bypass (what most people are probably thinking of when they talk about regain) is that there isn't a honeymoon phase or window where loss is easiest. Once you're sleeved and healed, your capacity only increases a small amount. Unlike a short window where malabsoption is guaranteed, or a pouch that is likely to stretch (or a band that requires fills and unfills, for that matter), your sleeve is going to restrict you immediately after surgery and for the rest of your life. I am two years out and maintaining beautifully. I'm currently pregnant and while I have hormone bloat and the start of a rounded tummy, I'm not having a problem with weight gain (nothing more than I'd expect at this point) despite the fact that my capacity is increased now that I'm pregnant. All surgeries come with the risk of regain. Using the sleeve like a diet that will someday end is the biggest cause of regain I've seen - people just stop being diligent at goal and fall into denial about bad habits, ones they didn't fix while losing in the first place. That said, I have seen very few regain posts in the three years I've been here. I've seen plenty of "I got out of control over the holidays and gained a few but took it off quickly" posts, though. If you weigh daily in maintenance and actually learn how to eat like a healthy, normal person during the first few months post surgery, there is no reason you can't reach goal and maintain for life. ~Cheri

    Digital Bathroom Scale Recommendations?

I got my scale at Kohl's. Of course I cannot remember the name of it, but it wasn't Biggest Loser or Weight Watchers. Nor Conair. Kohl's had a lot to choose from. There were good sales. So I finally chose one that told me information than I would possibly need: Weight, BMI, water weight(??)...and it was glass. Very nice. It has weight in pounds and ounces (digital).
  20. Surgeons and nutritionists inform us at to what foods we should eat with the band, and as always, they varey widely. I am just wondering what kind of weight loss you experience with yours and which you follow? My surgeon told me it is completely up to me-we all have different palates-and it needs to be something i can stick to with small portions. He does "encourage" cutting out as many carbs as possible. I have had great "short term" success with carbs but fear screwing that up over the long term due to my love of Pasta & potato. But, I feal that low cal just won't do the trick for me...never has. Tell me which has been a success for you with your band? -What has been your average daily cal intake if you are just watcing cals? or... -what has been your daily carb intak if you are just watching carbs??? -What type of weekly loss does this give you??? I would appreciate any info from those of you experiencing some success with your band!!! Thanks :-) -kat

Low Carb vs Low Cal ??

I stopped losing weight with calorie counting for 4 months until I started counting carbs instead and am now down 7 in two weeks. It is the only thing that works for me because I was eating soft foods because they go down easier which are mainly carbs

    No restriction

I just had my third fill and I am at 6cc's. My doctor is now puting in small amounts. 4.8, then .4 and .8. I feel slight restriction, nothing more than I did on the first fill though. So I understand. I lost 30 since banded in June and now I am STUCK at my weight! How big is your band? What was your starting weight?
  23. The chocolate and chocolate are great when cold. They can be purchased in 4 packs a Wal-Mart for under $5.00. When I was younger I drank 5 of these a day for 4 months and lost 83 lbs but after divorce gained it all back. I am using the EAS CARBO CONTROL now waiting for 6 weeks for the VSG. These drinks are very good. Besides the nutrients I am listing they have many vitamins. Calories 110 Calories from Fat Total Fat 3g Cholesterol 20mg Sodium 280mg Potassium 540mg Total Carbohydrate 4g Dietary Fiber 2g Sugars 0g Protein 17g Wish me good results, Mike

    Am I losing enough?

29 lbs in 5 weeks is amazing!! - that's about 6 lbs a week - when did you ever lose weight that quickly before? I'm only averaging around 4 lbs a week and I'm delighted with that. Think positive - this surgery is a tool, not a magic bullet. Depending on your starting weight and goals, it may take close to a year to lose all the weight. Don't get down on yourself - counting calories is not my main goal anymore. If I eat the correct quantity (no more than 1 cup at my stage) of the right foods (protein, fruits and veggies), then the calories take care of themselves. I use a tracking app called MyFitnessPal which I love. You might want to start using that - it has an amazing data base of lots of foods so it can tell you how much protein, fat, carbs etc you've consumed. What phase are you in? (pureed food, soft foods?) I also got tired of the Protein Shakes but found I love scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and fish (all mashed in the puree phase). Talk to your nutritionist about ideas and recipes etc Good luck!

My therapist said that's very normal. She said that our weight is a big part of our identity so it's going to take longer for us to "see" the results as opposed to others seeing it. She suggested taking pictures throughout the journey because it's easier to see the loss in comparing them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
