    hello

Apparently gerd/reflux is pretty common with sleevers, some will end up doing a revision because the reflux gets so bad for them. I have heard of people who had heartburn and it gets better or goes away totally. I would suggest picking best choice for you. Each procedure has pros and cons
  2. The decision to undergo gastric band surgery is a difficult one in itself to make. But findings from a new study have now made that decision even tougher, because an additional surgery – or two, or three, or more – may also be necessary. Nearly 1 in 5 morbidly obese patients who underwent the weight-reduction surgery were forced to have another operation to correct problems related to the initial surgery, states the authors of a paper published today in the journal JAMA Surgery. Among the malfunctions are incidents when the band that wraps around the stomach slips, or the band erodes into the stomach itself. http://www.acsh.org/news/2017/05/17/1-5-gastric-band-surgeries-require-corrective-operations-11290

    Slippage of sleeve

I knew the risks. It was worth rolling the dice on GERD not to have my intestines touched. If RNY was my only option I would have never had surgery. I wanted to do something serious and long term for a long time and neither the lap and or bypass appealed to me. It sounds like OP has a good doctor and a good course of treatment. This just reminds me not to take my good health for granted and to stay diligent on my follow ups. My friend has a hiatal hernia and GERD and a stomach full of ulcers, never had any kind of surgery let alone WLS surgery. While having surgery increaes your risks, normal people have these issues. I feel really bad for band revision people. They seem to have more complications than anyone else no matter what surgery they pick, sleeve or bypass. The band really messed a lot of people up, I don't understand how it is still on the market and how there has not been a class action lawsuit.
  4. My Instagram is anew_Sara my surgery is scheduled for July 14th.. I'm revising from a lapband to a sleeve Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. I'm having the same problem. My measurements don't seem to be budging that much. I've been taking measurements since I started my pre op diet and I'm budging up top. I was on my loosest bra hook and I just put it on the tightest. Surgery was March 6th. Also my body fat percent isn't moving either. I work out 4 times a week for an hour. I've checked my body fat with one of those hand held devices and I'm only down 3.2% since my pre op. I'm so upset about this. I mean I don't expect it to drop overnight but I expected a little quicker. I am a revision from lap band and I was a slowish loser then too. But I felt I lost inches more. I've only lost 32# since my pre op diet. I'm trying to up my calories and protein to try to help. Since I've only been averaging 700 calories and I don't want to kill my metabolism.
  6. I am currently in the process of revising from sleeve to bypass, I have to only do 2 months.
  7. Looking for other July sleevers...  I am revising from lapband (7 years with the band) to sleeve in Cabo on July 14th.. would love some others to followB)

    Acid Reflux

Yes it could be! And the good thing is if it gets to out of control you can have a revision. Not like your stuck forever if you don't want to deal with it. I heard from a lady who is 10 years out and she said she dealt with gerd on and off but after 10 years has found "relief". She didn't share her remedy though.
  9. Hello everyone, Lapband did not work for me, not only i didn't lose enough weight or got healthier but 1- I never got adjusted correctly, I would always throw up 2 - My body rejected the lapband after 5 years, it wanted to come out through my belly, it left me an ugly scar, doctor removed it and had to leave it open in order to heal months later got revision to sleeve, and currently revising to bypass. I have 1 more nut appt next month and then they will submit to insurance. i have a few comorbidities (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, GERD) so I really need to change my life around or I will not live to see my grandkids.
  10. I revised my band to the sleeve in march 2017 with only 25lbs max overweight, I no longer have co morbidities due to my weight loss with the band 7ys ago when I lost 140lbs, my band too was slipped and although I no-longer had fluid in the band, due to complications my surgeon recommended it be removed and gave me the option to revise, I decided to do it because I wanted to continue to have a tool to assist me in weight loss and maintenance and I also felt the same way with food never being a friend, Once the fluid was removed from my band And I could actually swallow my own saliva again I would go out of control at times with food, it was always a battle. Eating now with the sleeve is so different. No chest pain, no stuck feeling, just actually fullness when I have had enough. It's great.
  11. Im not morbidly obese and Im revising. I reached my goal weight with the band and kept it off for 7 years but one little overfill ruined everything for me. I couldn't even swallow my own saliva and had reflux like I never thought possible. Barium swallow revealed slipped band and surgeon suggested revision after removal. The last three months without my band "off switch" have been so bad for me. Food and I are never going to be friends without some additional help for me. I accept that now and while people tell me how "stupid" I am for doing this when I dont look overweight - they dont know about my issues with food behind closed doors. 12. Hi all, I am experiencing reflux sypmtoms two years post Gastric Bypass (revision from lap band) and ultrasound didn't show anything so I now have to have an esophageal manometry and 24 hour PH test done. Both tests involve having tubes inserted up my nose and down the back of my throat, and it's causing me some anxiety thinking about having it done. I woke up with an NG tube after the surgery and having it removed was quite uncomfortable, so I'm nervous about being awake while having two seperate tubes inserted. Can anyone talk me through their experience? Did you gag/choke while they were putting the tubes in?
  13. I'm new too [emoji7] I can't figure out how to add people from the app but once I'm on my computer I can follow you and you're welcome to follow me back I'm getting my surgery on July 14th I'm revising from a lap band to a sleeve and really super excited about this new journey.. Lap band to bypass conversion

I'm currently in the process of revision from band to DS. My surgeon says that he wants to do it in one surgery and no overnight hospital stay if possible. He says you heal better at home with less risk of infection. I'm still one appointment away from him submitting to insurance. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

    Below 40 BMI buddies

My BMI is under 40, was denied twice for a lap band 7+ years ago then finally approved. Now I'm looking to revise... my BMI is back to where I started and I'm worried about being denied. Still have two NUT appts and one surgeon appt before they submit my paperwork. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

    Lap band to bypass conversion

My Surgeon wouldn't do a one surgery revision. I had to have my band removed last fall, then go through insurance to get the second procedure approved. Luckily it went through right away. My RNY is May 22.
  18. I'm talking to my surgeon about this right now as well. I've had my band for a long time and I've hit a plateau that just won't budge. You have 3 options really. Removal with no revision. Removal with revision to a sleeve (if your surgeon will do that, mine won't) and Removal with revision to bypass. I was told that going from the band to the sleeve won't have the same effect that going from nothing to the sleeve would. Because you have already reduced your intake through lap band restrictions. So the effectiveness isn't the same. The bypass would add the malabsorption to mix increasing effectiveness. Now, here's why my surgeon won't do band to sleeve revisions. With the band, you will have some scar tissue build up (unless you've only had the band for a very short while) and the cut they make for the sleeve differs from the bypass. The cut they need to make for the sleeve, passes right through where the band, and scar tissue is, so, this greatly increases the risk of leaking and in a location that's tougher to work in due to it's location being higher up in the stomach cavity. Scar tissue doesn't heal to scar tissue quite the same way that healthy tissue heals to healthy tissue. Do doctors do band to sleeve revisions. All the time. Do some people have no issues with this, sure. But... it does increase your risk, so you should be aware of that risk. I went into my follow up / revision discussion appointment, pretty much set on the sleeve. I left leaning towards the bypass. And after doing my own research, review of both procedures, factoring in the different prospective losses with each. I'm pretty sure I'm getting revised to a bypass. Just my inputs, but worth sharing.
  19. I too was nervous the weeks up to my revision. I want back and talked to the nutritionist, therapist etc to get reassurance. Especially as it Beas a band sleeve revision. The last days before I was surprising calm even that day. The surgery went great. Minimal pain ( discomfort). Have had a couple times I drank too fast but nothing much. I'm almost 2 weeks PT. Can drink more volume than I expected. In some ways it's like nothing was done. But sure this will change with more solid foods. But really was not has bad as I had thought.
  20. How much (or what pct) did you loos 2 weeks post op ? Felling stalled. Can't break under 240. Still on full liquids. 2 week check tomorrow. Band wt. 300. 5/1/08. Bmi 41 Sleeve . 252. 5/5/17. Bmi 34.2 Current. 240 5/17. Bmi 32.6 Lowest band. 236. 2010/ 32 Lowest Adult 225 / 1980 Bmi 30.7

    Anyone ketogenic?

I've been doing keto for the last couple of months. Up until this week I wasn't sure if my revision to a sleeve would pan out so I needed to really dig in and better my lifestyle. I love it, and plan on keeping it up once I'm sleeved (but I think it'll be slightly easier) my biggest hurdle as it is, is finding lapband friendly AND keto friendly foods. But I'm down 24 lbs so far. I also add the keto OS drinks. That adds ketones to your body and helps a TON Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. I'm sorry I can't offer any insight to the revision aspect of your question, but I had my sleeve done on an outpatient basis! I walked into the hospital at 7:30 AM and walked out at 6:00 PM (with some help). I was able to go to the restroom by myself within hours of waking up from surgery. From my experience, a hospital stay wouldn't be out of the question. You'll be uncomfortable and possibly having a hard time getting/keeping liquids down. Having people to help is very important. My boyfriend was with me almost at all times for the next 4 days or so, making sure I get in liquids, helping me get around, and making sure I walked and used the incentive spirometer every hour for maybe 12-14 hours each day. I can assure you; it's very nice, possibly necessary, to have people around who care.
