Does anyone take Echinacea post op?
catwoman7 replied to Elisibeth777's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know that anyone on here is qualified to advise you one way or the other (maybe a nurse? We have a couple of nurses on here), so I don't know if anyone will want to risk telling you "it's fine" when it turns out it isn't, but I DID just do a search of this site and another bariatric forum (using "echinacea" as my keyword), and I did find that there are some post-op patients who have taken it. They didn't mention any particular issues with it. Another option would be to ask a pharmacist if you want a more professional opinion. They know more about drugs (and sometimes supplements) than doctors, although they wouldn't know as much about bariatric surgery as a doctor would (and vice versa!). They'd know more than us, though... -
People Who Regret Getting The Band
faddiscc4 replied to Richard Bush's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm sorry maybe I was not clear. My REGULAR doctor, not my bariatric surgeon told me that 50% of his patients who have had bariatric surgery have gained the weight back after 5 years. Sorry for the misunderstanding. -

Everyone who had band removed??Insurance??
dishdiva replied to athykay's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My insurance sent a denial letter for my lap band removal, calling it bariatric surgery. But, the letter also said pre-certification wasn't required for outpatient stays, which I was. So we're submitting and hoping fot the best. If they deny, I plan to fight until the bitter end because my health, and life, was being put at risk from my band-related complications. -
Lots of us Seattle and WA sleevers. There's a couple groups and I know there's a support group that meets in the Fife area and as for the Seattle area I think for now it's limited to bariatric center support. No clue of they allow outsiders. It would be great to gathers without surgeon affiliation. Just search above and you'll find us

Just Starting 6 Month Program
Thin 2 Win replied to beachgurl84's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Tomorrow (June 21) is my first visit for the 6 month diet. I have bcbs in California. My ins requires 6 mo class, nutritionist visit, psych visit, upper gi, and a barium x-ray ( can't recall the name for that). I am right at 40 bmi and I am worried about falling below that during the 6 mo and then not qualifying. Not happy that I have to wait so long but after reading other's experiences, it appears to go fast. I am thankful that I have a supportive husband but I have chosen to not share this journey with family and friends. I am realize that I am one of those people who has lived in denial about my weight my entire adult life so it has been difficult to come to terms with myself. I am thankful for these forums and reading your stories and experiences. I will have my surgery by Dr. Boone in Fresno, Ca and they have a great program with ALSA. My insurance only covers 5k for bariatric so I am looking at 11k out of pocket. Not sure where exactly that will materialize from but I have faith. -
Mild sleep apnea [emoji19]
catwoman7 replied to ajb1029's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also a mild case - like you. In fact, I think I was also a 5.5. It was pretty borderline. The sleep physician said I should get a CPAP machine, but when I brought it up with the PA at my bariatric clinic, he said he wasn't sure if it would be worth it, since the sleep apnea would probably disappear after I lost the first 20 or 30 lbs, so I skipped it. I don't know if you have that option or not. But I felt the same way - I didn't want to fork over a lot of money for something I was going to use for maybe a month or two tops. -
Lap Band for a BMI of Less than 35?
MelindaH replied to TexasLady1986's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi, hon, thank you for your post and welcome to our little group! By all means, if your dad is asking you to consider bariatric surgery, I would at least go to an informational seminar at a center of excellence. I do not know where you are in Texas but for sure they are in the major cities. If you have the financial means or insurance to cover it, I would seriously consider it. Nip it in the bud while you are young. Don't wait till you are my age (54) and have developed several co-morbities. All the best to you. Feel free to join us often. I really like this website. Love my surgeon, hate his office
CheleLynn45 replied to majorsmama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW.....I am so sorry to read these posts. My surgeon is great, but he is after all a surgeon so he is pretty much straight to the point and no sugar coating. He has always answered my questions and I have never felt rushed. Now the office staff, coordinators and NP's I really really like. We also have a woman named Gayle who teaches the 2 hr+ post op class. She is fantastic and has had the sleeve surgery herself. For most of my follow ups I have seen the NP, Deb, and I really like her. She takes all the time you want, really goes over everything and has been available to answer my questions. I am now in the process of having my ventral hernia removed by my bariatric surgeon and am dealing other staff member for scheduling and processing. Even these ladies have been great, especially with helping me fill out my paperwork for my LOA from work. @majorsmama I hope you get your approval and scheduled soon! Good luck!! -
I have the same requirements with cigna as @SeaShells82 has. But I started mine on jan 22nd. Had my pysch evaluation this past Monday and will have my 2nd nutritional appt next week. So, I have 2 more after that, it'd be Mar and April. The bariatric center will submit paperwork at the last meeting in a April. Depending on how long Cigna takes, I suspect it'll be end of April or early May for my surgery. Start to Finish, about 3-4 months. And congrats on making the decision for better health! ??

Which app do you like and why?

I use my fitness pal to track what I eat and usually drink, but I also have timer on my phone and a bariatric timer. -
Has anyone been sleeved by Dr. Alejandro Lopez Orgeta at Mi Doctor Hospital in Tijuana?
LutheranChicTN replied to dawndenise's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm also going with Dr. Lopez (4/26). I've second guessed myself so many times on which Dr and probably will again during the next 3 weeks. But currently I am confident in choosing Dr. Lopez. I chose him specifically because of specializing in high BMI patients. He has had no deaths and very few complications. Plus you get Dr. Lopez and Dr. Ortiz both bariatric surgeons and the anesthesiologist is also a trained surgeon as well. So 3 dr's in the OR. Dr. Garcia is not with A Lighter Me. Ready 4 a Change is who you would contact for him. =) -
2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea
BLERDgirl replied to ssourgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you could try sending a DM to @@nprcowboy , He had a really rough time for the first few months and was put on tube feedings. Perhaps he can offer some advice. Personally I would be contacting the insurance company about changing surgeons for follow up. Make sure the doctors following her for the kidney stone out in for a consult. Either the bariatric surgeon or one of his residents should have checked in with her by now. -
2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

To repeat what my surgeon told us, the biggest cause of leaks/complications is other doctors. Can you at least reach your bariatric dr by phone? -
2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea
ssourgirl replied to ssourgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. No, they're not sending her home yet. She's still in a great deal of pain and still nauseated with no relief from Zofran or Phenergren. She hasn't been able to drink anything because of the nausea and vomiting and since this is 4 weeks of no food or drink, the bariatric surgeon needs to come back in and evaluate. Of course, it's the weekend and he's off so whoever is on call will come by possibly. If this procedure takes TWO WEEKS before he can go back in and it still causes the severe nausea and pain, I don't see how she can handles this given her inability to hydrate and verging on malnourishment. I researched and there is another procedure he could do that would get it out now. It's slightly more invasive but not vastly. I am going to call him tomorrow to see why he isn't choosing that option. Seems to me he should be given that her body, mind and soul are giving out. -
I remember reading that warm liquids can help to make a tight band feel loser...I'm so sorry, that must be awful. Have you called the doctors office, my hospital has a 24 hour bariatric on call doc at all times...maybe yours does too? Hope you get help! Take care.

I was experiencing organ damage due to my Type 2 Diabetes. Medication and insulin wasn't controlling my levels. My PCP suggested the bariatric procedure and urged me to speak to a surgeon for which procedure would be best for me. The bypass blocks the portion of the stomach that causes the organ damage. I am 7 months post op. Down 85 lbs. I came home from the hospital off all diabetes pills. Within the week I was off insulin. After a couple months I was off high blood pressure meds. I only take thyroid replacement due to my thyroid being removed years ago. My blood tests show no further organ damage and my liver levels have improved. Sleeve or band wouldn't have been the solution for me. Best of luck! You won't be disappointed with the bypass results.

Chewable Multi Vites - thoughts?
Hrsnjs replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey! I'm taking the ProCare Health one a day bariatric vitamins with 18mg iron. I started with Opurity chewables and could not stand them for more than a few weeks. I haven't had my first labs yet (those happen @6 months out for me, I am currently 3mo). Hoping the labs are fine. I also switched from Opurity chewable calcium citrate (too chalky) to the Celebrate chewables and love them. I'm using Bariatric Fusion sublingual B12 also and so far that's it. The Opurity sublingual B12 is decent too. I always find it interesting to see what others have tried. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Week Two down...Thick Liquids are a welcome change!
time-4-change replied to time-4-change's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You go girl! I went out to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant last night. Had Beans with salsa...no cheese dip...wanted some but the kids had eaten it all when my beans got there! lol I ate them slowly and they went down easily. I did get full on about 1/2 cup, maybe a bit more. Didn't drink after I started eating. I really miss my Margaritas so I took a tiny taste of my daughter's. It seemed very strong and I didn't even want anymore. Funny, huh? When I do have a drink, I can tell that I'll need to be very careful. Funny how your tastebuds change when you are on liquids only. My favorite thing this week on Thick liquids is my yogurt. Carb Master from Kroger is very tasty and not too sweet. It has 8 g of Protein alone and I have been adding 1.5 scoops ( 20 g of prot) of Bariatric Advantage Unflavored Protein powder to the cup of yogurt. The unflavored powder is perfect fo me. It is light tasting...although it is a bit sweet and vanilla flavored (don't know why they call it Unflavored...not so much!) But I like it! So far, that is my favorite! Just received my shipment of unjury unflavored...will let you know how it goes! Glad to hear that you are doing well! I will be going in to weigh and for Support Group on Tuesday, the 24th. Looking forward to official weigh in! Take care and keep up the good work! I am so proud of us! WE ROCK! Barb -
Chewable Multi Vites - thoughts?
Sweettoothless replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If you have any kind of sense of smell stay away from the Bariatric Advantage chewable. They smell like an actual peed in diaper that was left sitting out. Vomitous. The taste is not great and they are huge but the smell is the worst thing. I told the nutritionist and she said yeah I think they are gross too. I had some on my table laid out a few days post surgery (because my place said to get going on vitamins right away) and my daughter sat next to me and said ew what is that smell, it smells like a pee diaper?! I could smell it on my fingers long after I chewed them. I still have a nearly full bottle and I'd rather lose the $ than open the bottle and smell it again. -
Chewable Multi Vites - thoughts?
dathvick replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I use Journey Bariatric Chewable Multivitamins that I purchase from the Bariatric Center where I had my surgery done. I am sure I am probably paying more for them, getting them through the surgery center but something as important as my success is worth it. This is the only brand the surgery center sells so it is what they recommend. I pay $25 a month. -
I have to wonder too...i guess every dr. is so different..i just met with my surgeon today for my surgery next tuesday..he didn't say anything about restricting any diet, lowering my carbs, not sure if he looked at the dietary notes from earlier and thought i was doing alright..but he heads the mayo clinic dept of bariatrics, so i know he's good at what he does...was your surgery laproscopic?..I'm so sorry though..i never would have been able to hold in the tears...i would bawl like a baby!! you will get there and get it done...just follow their directions this time...it's all about pleasing them at this point =( Although my dietician that i saw today was mean and NASTY...she said..now don't think about going out and having any "last meals" incinuating that i would go hoard and indulge food all week..because if you gain any weight the surgery will be off....she was also the same person that referred to my meals post op as feeding times like i'm an animal....good gracious some people are just bas**ds...dirty ones at that. Chin up girlfriend...

If You Could Really Turn Back Time, Would You Get Banded Again??
judych replied to txdee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well.. on reflection i think i went in not knowing the full extent of the change that was coming... but, hey, what did i think it was going to be?? im not sorry at all but its been a very deeply stirring experience for me, mostly emotionally i think. Not an easy time at all. IN all of this im finding that some of my old habits and mind sets are still rearing their ugly head. I know its goign to take time for all this to dispel . It has been one of the hardest things Ive had to deal with. Mostly because when i am having a bad day i cant just ''get off the train ''.lol. Discipline has not been one of my strongest points for many years now. Im 66, learning that i have to be renewed in my mind regarding food. Also, im finding that whats equally as important is that i have to change how i feel about myself. I know it will all come together.. its going to take some time though. Meantime the results have been just staggering as far as my health is concerned. More than id ever expected, especially so quickly after surgery. This has been an awesome boost for me. i think that was meant to be to encourage me. All in all?? yes, i would have it done again... a thousand times over. Nothing else was going to force me to confront my ''demons'' thats for sure.
