I hear ya! Cranky cranky - if you watch The Office, it reminds me of Kelly in the weight loss episode - “just leave me alone!” I will get something down really quick - nuts, a cracker, juice - to stave off the hunger until I can prepare something with more substance. This doesn’t happen often because I’ve learned to set routine times for meals and water. That usually helps. I’m month 7 now, so it feels very routine at this point and I don’t have to think about doing these things. I hope I can maintain!

Hi, all! I'm very new to this so please bear with me. I just had my appt with my surgeon today and I have my appt with my nutritionists next week. I'm very excited to start this journey in my weight loss mad new life! The only problem that I really have is that I am not good with physical pain. What were your experiences? Was it something that lasted very long? If there was pain, were you able to take anything? Thanks for any info that will help me!

I have this unfounded doubt in my mind that for some reason no surgery would work for me, maybe because of weight loss attempts that worked for others but not me in the past. Did anyone else feel this way before surgery? What are somethings you wish you knew BEFORE getting the sleeve surgery? Did you have any doubts before surgery and how were they resolved?

5 weeks post-op slow weight loss
Jaelzion replied to fitgal2021's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Agreed. It took me almost two years to lose 129 pounds. I was never a rapid loser and toward the end it slowed down considerably. But over time, even a slow loss adds up if you stick to it. -
5 weeks post-op slow weight loss

almost nobody loses 100 lbs in 4-5 months. Unless they're the size of people on "My 600 lb Life", they would be rare exception. For most people, it takes a year, give or take, to lose that much. I started out heavier than you. I lost 16 lbs the whole first month, so much less than you. And as you can see in my stats, I ended up losing over 200 lbs (took 20 months). Your level of commitment plays a MUCH greater role in your ultimate success than your rate of weight loss does. Besides, rate of weight loss depends on so many factors, most of which (like age, gender, genetics, metabolic rate) you have little - or no - control over. The two things you DO have control over are how closely you follow your program and your activity level. If you do well with those, you WILL lose a significant amount of weight, whether fast or slow. -

5 weeks post-op slow weight loss
newyorklady20 replied to fitgal2021's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm glad that I found your post because that's exactly what I'm here browsing about today! I had sleeve surgery on 3/30 and lost 15 pounds pre op and have lost about 17 post. So I have definitely lost a substantial amount of weight, but I am stalling out big time. I lost for about 2 weeks after surgery but since then I think I have only lost about 3 pounds. I am also always so hungry! I fight it and try to eat more protein and stick to my portions, but I'm feeling kind of defeated. I know that this isn't a fix and is just a tool, but I'm not sure if its a tool that works if I'm still hungry and am not losing any weight! I'm debating going back on a liquid diet next week just to try to bring things back to basics, but I'm sort of at a loss right now. I know that plateaus and stalls are normal, but I've basically been stalled out for about 2 weeks now. And that's half of my post op time. -
5 weeks post-op slow weight loss

You have a lowish start weight by the looks - 206lb or 206lb+ 22lb? Not sure which, but either way, with a lowish start weight your 22lb loss is pretty good...it isn't low or slow. Lowish start weights generally results in lower losses even with weight loss surgery. Seems to me that you are doing great! -
Hi guys, I had my surgery March 17th, so I’m at the 5 weeks mark. I lost 22 pounds total, but in the three weeks alone I lost 6 pounds only. Is this normal? I’m not drinking or eating my calories, my food is completely on point and I’m beginning to worry. Last two weeks I lost only 2.5 pounds.

April surgeries
SlowDoris replied to BigDreamer2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is feeling very real now, having just booked a taxi to get myself to the hospital on Sunday morning (April 25th). The hospital is a 1hr drive away which isn't great (largely because of the added taxi expense) but there was a 12 month wait at my nearest hospital whereas its only been 1 month since my initial phone call to this one (I'm in the UK, paying privately). I've lost 24lbs in a bit over 3 weeks of pre op diet and got a 50lb total loss from my highest weight a year ago today as I did keto for 11 months before the pre op. I've come a long way over the last year, and regularly cook, shop for and have in the house lots of foods that previously I couldn't have resisted (I'm taking about you, pizza, ice cream and biscuits) without finding it a problem. I've also happily gone through the drive through with my (slim) husband and felt perfectly content with my protein water. There was a question earlier about doubts following a successful pre op diet. For me, having lost a lot of weight in the past and losing quickly on my pre op, I'm happy to have surgery. Research shows that for many reasons including hunger hormones, metabolism and fat cell activity weight loss surgery makes it significantly easier not just to lose weight but to maintain that loss. The way I see it from my research and experience is that losing weight through diet leaves you slim but in a body that physiologically is doing everything it can to get you back to being fat. Surgery leaves you slim in a body that has in a sense been reset to being slim and is not trying to get fat again. Do it by diet and you'll be left fighting your body as well as your mind to maintain. Do it by surgery and you don't have to fight your body, just keep control of your mind. That's much more achievable. Preparation wise I've got lots of protein water and shakes ready that I know I like plus chewable bariatric vitamins. I'm feeling very settled on the liquid diet which I'm glad about as I think it'll make the post surgery transition easuer. I've treated myself to a new pair of headphones with alexa built in to make my hospital time and recovery a bit more convenient. I bought a giant cosy dressing gown for a bit of comfort. And I've sorted all my outdoor sports gear /books /maps etc which have ended up in the loft after a blissful period having lost 140lbs about 12 years ago that didn't last very long before it all came back. I've read a whole load about bariatric surgery and nutrition and have lots of self improvement books lined up to read or listen to to help me keep working on me, not just my weight and relationship with food. I'm so excited about my new life and feel very determined and prepared. Loads of waffle there... Can you tell I'm excited?! Sent from my VOG-L09 using Tapatalk -

Hi This is my first post. I am having gastric sleeve surgery on 5/18/21. I am reaching out to all who can give me any pointers. I would like to know which supplement work best for all of you? Also are any of you taking additional supplements for your hair and skin? I welcome anything you can think of since all of you have already started on this journey. Thank you in advance and keep going...each day gives us opportunities to achieve our goals. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

That’s very true about the pre-op diet weight loss ..I’m on day 4 and am already 5 lbs down! I was definitely wondering about the surgery!!!! -
I made the choice to weigh in once a week on Saturdays. I get to see a bigger jump (hopefully) than I would daily. Weighing daily drove me crazy in previous weight loss programs. I was always questioning myself. how often do you weigh in?

Weight loss first two weeks
catwoman7 replied to Stellagettinghergrooveback21's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't remember what i lost the first two weeks, but the first MONTH I lost 16 lbs. That's pretty normal. It seems most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month. Of course, you'll always find some who lose more or less than that, but that seems to be about the norm. At 10 lbs down during the first two weeks, you'll likely end up in that range at the end of four weeks, too - so, your loss is absolutely normal. -
Eating disorders prior to bariatric surgery
kalassi posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi guys, I'm new to this community but have been struggling with my weight my entire life. I've been considering WLS for the past year. I would very much like to undergo surgery this year. I have access to a large academic medical center through my employer, and the weight loss clinic there has excellent providers (I say this to say I didn't see a hack). I saw one last year and we discussed my history of disordered eating (restricting then binging/purging, yoyo dieting, hiding extra food from others) and was very candid. I also have a history of alcoholism (sober 10 years). The provider I saw told me I was very different from the patients she usually sees which leads me to ask this community - are there really so few bariatric patients with eating disorders and other mental health conditions??? I'm just looking to hear from others with similar experiences who are traveling or have traveled this road. -
occasional plateaus are just a normal part of weight loss. I just rode them out - stuck to my plan, stayed off the scale for a few days. They always broke.

There are a few reasons why I would hold off getting it done if I were you. For one, it sounds like you're really not ready and could benefit from a psych evaluation beforehand. Two, you said you have never tried losing weight seriously until now and now that you are, it's working and you're actually losing! That's great! And finally, you have no underlying health conditions so IMO, it's not dire that you do it now, or else. I know for me I wrangled with the idea in my head and with my doc and my husband for YEARS!! Weighed the pros and cons, did research, spoke to others who had it done, etc. before deciding to finally go ahead with it. And then when I did decide, I did have to do the psych evaluation and a whole slew of other stuff (not as much as some but enough). I also spent years working with my doc on my diet and my endocrinologist, the local gym, etc. trying my hardest to lose weight and still, with all that effort, diet change and medication I still ended up with high blood pressure and now, Type 2 Diabetes. My weight simply would not move thanks to underlying issues I have (PCOS and Insulin Resistance, to name a few). Just made it extra hard for me. I always told myself and my doc over the years that if I truly gave my diet and exercise my all and NOTHING satisfactory happened as far as weight loss, that I would seriously consider weight loss surgery. But if it the diet and exercise did indeed work, I would just continue down that path and do it on my own. Well sadly the dieting, exercise and medication did not work for me so I chose to get the surgery. And I really did try, for YEARS!! Given the fact that you do NOT have any underlying conditions/risks, if I were you I'd step back and reevaluate getting it done and continue working hard on your diet and exercise since it seems to be working for you. But in the end, only YOU can decided what's right for you.

Need Suggestions for Returning to Work after Surgery
Tim C replied to Blueslily's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am trying to get as much protein in as I can early in the day so I add the whey protein to bump it up. I add the Collagen protein(another 10Gs) because collagen is amazingly good for your skin hair and nails. My wife mixes it in her morning coffee. Since I started taking it my heels do no crack anymore. It is good stuff in other words. -
