  1. I'm with Kaiser in Richmond, California. We don't measure by micronutrients or how many grams of protein we get in a day. When back to normal they expect 3oz of protein plus vegetable or fruit. Coming together to be 1 Cup per meal with 75% being protein . So far the only protein I get now is from my yogurt and the other meals provide a little but not much. I tried pureeing chicken with broth and it is freaking gross lol I'm gonna have to stick with yogurt, cream of chicken, and a ricotta bake I made. Otherwise everything else has become disgusting to me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced lactose intolerance after their surgery? I am finding myself sick and crampy after just a sip or two of anything dairy which has sucked tremendously since I was moved to the full liquids. So yogurts, creamed Soups are all making me sick. I had my surgery on 11/30 and I am supposed to be on the full liquids for another 2 weeks! Any suggestions on what else I can have in this stage that won't make me sick? 5. Hi everyone, This is my first post. I had surgery on 11/14/16 and have wondered if my weight is coming down fast enough, and if not, how I could increase the amount of weight loss or should have concerns. I know that losing weight more slowly could give my skin a better chance of keeping up with my changing body, but I can't help but wonder if I am doing something wrong. I already know I can increase my Water intake (getting 32-64oz water per day). I'm in my 3rd stall and noticed it happened when I started eating "regular" food again (after the puree phase). The stalls drive me nuts, especially since they seem to be lasting from 3-7 days. At six weeks post-op, I am at 303.2 pounds, down from a day-of-surgery weight of 334, or an average weight loss of 5.13 pounds per week. I have read using multiple sources that weight loss varies between 5 to 15 pounds per week. I am wondering: what is the difference between those that lose 5 pounds per week versus those that lose 15 pounds per week? If your rate of loss is faster than mine, what are you eating, how much water are you getting per day, how much are you really exercising per day/week, and do you have any other medical factors that might be contributing to your faster weight loss? Also, I have a few other questions: At this phase of my diet, I'm supposed to be eating 3 meals a day and not drinking Protein shakes anymore. Is anyone out there still relying on shakes to get the additional protein? I feel like 3 meals a day doesn't give me the minimum 60 grams of protein I'm supposed to have per day. Also, I have started weight lifting and believe I need more protein than my diet specifies. I noticed I had a tough time with ham, barbecue pork, and asparagus...I get a tight feeling in my pouch even if I chew these down to nothing. Is the pain I feel really the food trying to pass into my small intestine? Seems like some foods like greek yogurt go down really easily while others, no matter how much you chew, cause discomfort. Knock on wood: nothing has made me throw up yet, but at times I feel a little sick when I haven't eaten in a while. I have not experienced dumping syndrome yet. I am wondering if the daily probiotic I am taking is helping reduce the risk of adverse effects. Are you taking a probiotic? Have you noticed any benefits? Sorry everyone...I know this is a long post, but since it's my first, I have so much on my mind. Thank you, Andre
  6. 4 weeks out. liquids (except water) go down very well, like 10oz at a time. I can easily put away 4-6oz of pureed - especially yogurt. Soft and solid food isn't going well. eggs, about an ounce at a time and I tried Cod last night - maybe 2 tablespoons. Please tell me this gets better soon. I'm so frustrated with eating, I just want to stay in the pureed stage. I know I need to progress, so will it just happen naturally if I just stick with it? I'm not getting sick, just very full very fast.

    Dairy

I am 8 years post op and I cannot tolerate any sort of ice cream.....even the no sugar added kind. Not real good with milk either. I have tried Lactaid and the Lactaid ice cream and it's a no go for me. I can eat yogurt, cottage cheese and any type of cheese with no issues. I think it is an individual thing and you have to find out what does and doesn't work for you.
  8. Are you eating pureed chicken and tuna? Foods like that are high in Protein, I have read others that didn't do shakes. You can puree with Greek yogurt which is also very high protein. You can puree ham too, it's like ham salad. Good luck.
  9. If no shakes I suggest Isopure Protein Water as you will need more calories to sustain long walks safely. I was also sleeves 12/19 and don't officially start purée stage until Monday so for me now it's protein shakes, isopure, cream of wheat which I flavor with vanilla protein powder and milk with cinnamon, yogurt, decaf tea, blended split pea Soup, hummus, and I did try blended egg whites with turkey and the texture was gross. I have not been able to take any broth for a few days now as so sick of it. Monday I can add more blended or purred foods. Still hard hitting 60 grams of protein per day as I usually hit 45-50. Also getting to 64 ounces of fluids is tough too. My weight loss has been low so trying to get more in day by day. I also see doc on 1/6 so hopefully that goes well. 10 weeks post op

I am 6 weeks. I eat chicken, turkey chili, Beans, lentil Soup, eggs, yogurt, tuna, cottage cheese with unsweetened applesauce, cheese. I eat toast with Peanut Butter occasionally. That is my go to when I'm hungry. I eat raw nuts all the time. My Dr actually recommends raw almonds. I eat sugar free Popsicles as Snacks and it curbs any cravings Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I agree with @@theantichick, double check with your surgical team about the Protein shakes and let them know about the hunger. Since you are on pureed food, maybe start using a soft protein like fish pureed with mayo or moistened chicken pureed with broth or mayo. If you aren't allowed to supplement with protein shakes, I am not sure what else you can do. Check to make sure that they might allow unflavored Protein powder in Greek yogurt, ect....good luck.
  12. Hi eveyyone, I'm post sleeve (almost 3 years out). I'd love to hear from post sleevers & find out what everyone is eating these days. There seems to be a lot of focus on pre surgery & immediately thereafter as you feel that's when you need the most support. I beg to differ. At this point, most of us know what we're supposed to do, what we're supposed to be eating, how much, etc... BUT, we don't talk much about how those lousy bad habits creep back in during the most stressful times of our lives, and how we can handle it. I was laid off 6 weeks ago. Yup, right before the holidays. By now I understand that stress is my trigger for making bad choices. Isn't it for most of us? :-( Nonetheless, I've made many. I now find myself with an additional 10 pds & I can feel it & see it. I still remember after I had lost all the weight, how I "swore" I would never let myself go up more than 2 or 3 pds. Humm, what happened? Let's focus on the positive & talk about going back to basics. What is everyone eating to maintain their weight loss? What's a day in your life look like? Do you have a favorite recipe? Do you have restrictions on what you can eat? I find that I am now much more lactose intolerant, so my original "go-to" foods like greek yogurt is now not such a good idea Come on, share your favorite foods / recipes.. And gooo.........
  13. So I had my first Post-op today with the doctor and all looked good! I also had my first post-op visit with the nutritionist and wanted to share it with all of you. In preparation for being advanced to the phase II, I pulled out my list and started making pureed foods last night so that I can start today. WELL...... she said NO chicken or turkey for 3 more weeks. She said that chicken and turkey are very hard to digest and our stomachs are not ready yet. I'm allowed yogurt, baby food, cream Soups, fat free pudding, etc. I'm glad I didn't dive in last night. LOL She also said absolutely NO carbs such as Pasta, rice or bread because those expand in the stomach and can burst through a staple which takes up to 6 weeks to heal. Lastly, she said I can get creative with my shakes by adding frozen fruit to them or even decaf coffee or flavored syrups. No Peanut Butter yet. The most important thing I took out of our meeting was when she said "shakes are still a priority, only supplement with the food if you can fit it. Right now, the Protein you put in your body is key". I couldn't look forward to start eating but I realize now that we still need the protein. You read so many different things on here regarding restrictions, diets and what is allowed I just think we should all follow the advise of our specific doctor and staff. They are the ones monitoring you and are the ones that can best suggest alternatives.
  14. I was only on clear for two days, then full liquids for 7 days. I had to freeze my Jello into pops and make my yogurts the same way and mix it with 1percent milk because it was way too thick. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. This is what I do: Hunger- start an activity and reassess in 15 minutes. I find that I have a hrd time distinguishing between idle time and hunger. Fullness- this is tricky. I find that measuring my food and not having more than 4 oz on my plate (3:1 / protein:carbs) helps. At first it was just 2ozs. I use a tiny spoon and fork and eat very slowly. Chew everything, keep food in my mouth. Learning to SAVOR. It takes me 15-20 minutes to finish my small meals. If eat slowly enough I will feel satisfied before I empty my plate. Pain: pain (and nausea and burping and sweating) means I over ate. It only took once for me to know that I never want to fell that awful again, and it was just one or two bites more that I should have had. You might want to thin Greek yogurt for a while. It's really big sticky lump of food.
  16. broth. (I made my own), Jello, greek yogurt, Protein shakes, Water, crystal light. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    calling all December 19th sleevers

My daily menu is nothing exciting. I usually have a protein shake and a half, and then something of the soup variety for dinner. I've been digging light creamy soups, because they have a lot of flavor. I don't think I've been doing 64 g and 64 ounces, but I've been doing about 50. That's what my doctor suggested. I have my 10 day postop tomorrow, and I'm probably going to be cleared for soft foods. I can't wait! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App When you have soup how much do you usually have? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App I can drink 8oz of broth now. Been primarily living on Premier Protein shakes, broth with protein added, G2 drink, crystal light. I've had yogurt once, still not something I actually like, and I've had cottage cheese and refried Beans with plain greek yogurt mixed in. On christmas I did have two spoons of mashed potatoes drenched in turkey juice and a shred of turkey that I chewed to death. I also have chewed some string cheese into mush too. I know these things aren't on my current list, but I'm careful to not swallow anything until it's mush. My doctor said I could have a scrambled egg with cheese on day 10! whoohoo.. and if that goes well I could also try some fish. She seems to be less strict on the stages than I see in other programs. My doctor seems to be a little less strict too, and I'm pretty excited about it. Supposed to get the OK tomorrow to move onto soft foods. I'm glad you didn't have any problems with those foods, makes me excited for tomorrow! Enjoy your scrambled egg! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein Powder?!?

I use unjury. I have mixed it in Soup, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc and it doesn't clump. I assume all Protein powder is this way, but, if you mix it in something hot, don't let it get too hot or it will change the consistency of the food you are mixing it in. Also, I use my Unjury in cold drinks. I use my shaker to mix it up real well to prevent clumping.
  23. Hi I've had my gastric sleeve revision to rny gastric bypass four days ago. I'm home since yesterday but it wasn't and still isn't easy. It feels as though I've been punched with 5 umbrellas and I have slight diarrhea but no more GERD and I'm hoping it begins to get better from now on. Happy to find similar people for support. Strangely enough I've been asked to take Clear Liquids on my first week, then full liquids like milk and yogurt on the second week, then purred foods on then third week but I wasn't told I should take in Protein. Any feedback is appreciated thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
