  1. In my line of work, I often meet potential clients at Starbucks for the first time. Because we've never seen each other, it's always been my habit to describe myself as "short and round with big curly brown hair" and no one has ever missed me. I can always tell if the person I am meeting is a chubster, too, because they giggle at my comment. Today, I was the only female in the place when a heavier lady walked in who was obviously looking for me. I waved her over to the table and she looked at me and said, "I thought you said you were round. Were you trying to be funny? Making fun of fat people isn't a joke.' EHRMAHGHERRRRRRRD!!! I never even thought about it. I'm still short, I still have big, curly hair, but I'm no longer round. Last year at this time, I was a snug 20/XXL and now I'm a comfy size 10 in skinny pants/medium top. It took me a minute to even figure out what the heck she was referring to when she made the comment. I was so stunned at what happened, I stuttered over my explanation. I tried to explain that I've lost a bunch of weight, yada, yada, yada, but from the look on her face and her response back, I'm pretty sure I offended her and I won't be hearing from her again. Whooooops! There's a habit I'll have to break.

    DOWN day my friends :(

I went for my first post op and everything was great. I have lost 10 pounds since my surgery 11 days ago. Today is another story, I am feeling so down and can't figure out how to deal with it. I went for a long walk, had my soft food, and then started having desire to cheat and attack anything that I get my hand on I haven't had any fills yet so I didn't feel full after my cheat!! I hate myself now and so I am about to take a cool shower and go for another looooooooooooong walk. I WILL NOT DO THIS TO MYSELF AGAIN.
  5. ok... so tomorrow is a week and i feel good... although not eating is so horrible... i hate this liquid diet... i weight myself and i am 19 lbs down, since everything started, i mean the pre-op diet and everything... i have lost about 7 lbs since surgery... i am going to see my surgeon on monday, so i am wondering what he is going to say...
  6. Hi everyone, I've been banded for one-month now (9/1) and am scheduled for a fill on 10/16. I've been enjoying the discussions, but am puzzled by two terms that I don't understand. Since I haven't had a fill yet, I don't know what "sliming" is. Also, don't know what "PBing" is? Can someone please explain? I would appreciate it. :help: :help:

    Hi everyone

My name is Pattiriciat and i am going to get the lapband as well I am scared yet excited all at the same time. I have very little support and I am afraid i wont be able to, lets say deal with the changes that I will have to do. I am working at a new job after not working for 3 years and my starting weight was 262 now after only 4 weeks I have lost 10 lbs already. I stopped eating at resturaunts daily and i eat more regularly. However I feel the change I am going to have the most problem with is the no drinking with my food Thats going to be hard Can anyone give my any advice on how to do this without feeling um, sick. thanks pattiriciat:nervous <!-- / message -->

    VG vs Lapband recovery

Good for you , in no time you will see the benefits and it feels good, I know the pre op diet is hard and the 3 weeks post op diet is also but, in about a month and half I know you'll see about 30lbs gone if you follow the rules. You can do it, I did it. I had surgery 10-03-06 and by chrismass I was 200lbs, Started at 245lbs at my pre op visit before surgery. let me know how great you look about 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you are having any problems and someone personal to talk you though this, you can email me. I will help you. When you feel weak and feel like eating the wrong thing i'll be right here for you. We are a family now though the lapband. I'll give you my phone # as so as you email me. God bless you, happy new year and a happy now you.:clap2: you made a good choose with the band.let me know

    no weight loss

At least you dont have to wait for 3 months to get a fill! My surgery was Feb. 24 and my first fill is may 24th, just be patient the weight will start to fall off. I am almost 5 weeks post op and I am down 35lbs, I am a male so I know we lose faster but the first couple of weeks I really didnt lose but 10-12 lbs but the last few weeks I have seen it come off fairly good, and my band is EMPTY with no fill in it at all. I just keep telling myself I didnt gain it all in a couple months I will not lose it all either. Good luck the hard part is over(waiting) and it is time to get your mind in the right place as far as food goes, eat good and excercise will get you there alot faster!
  10. I forget so much I need to fire myself. But don't worry...they can make a size 10 a size 6. Just hard to make a 6 a 10. You'll be fine. Your post made me laugh. Where do you live?

    Sketchers Shape-Ups

Yeah I had a pair of fit-flops also! I wore them when I was shopping in the MOA (Mall of America in MN). The mall has 3 floors, each having a 1 mile perimeter. I was very pleased with them, after 3 miles, I had no pain in my feet, back, legs ext. The only problem was that they were very UGLY! ha. Being 21, I was kind of embarrassed to be wearing them. They made my toes look 10 in long. haha. Anyways, the Shape-Ups, I think, are very cute!

    That moment when...

I still order out on Fridays at work (In my bank Fridays are ten hour days with one break for lunch). And I do throw out most of it. But all those quick stops throughout the day to buy junk? Like doughnuts, pastry, chocolate, kfc, Coolattas, and chips? No more. Now when I go out I take my little lunch box with small-portioned healthy snacks and/or meals. I'm probably saving $10-15 a day. Now I can put all that money to good use. I bought a Makowsky purse Sunday. It was on clearance for a fraction of it's original price (but still higher than I've ever paid for a purse!) and I figured I saved enough money just in the last two weeks to justify the splurge! :-)
  13. Beautiful! Good luck, I am down 19 in 14 days so excited to start shopping

    Drainage

Thank you for replying. The drainage has just about stopped now but boy it sure did scare me. They said 10 days for stitches to come out, it will be 7 days tomorrow, I'm making an appt to have them out. My port is to the left. I'm sure I'm OK and nothing to worry about.
  15. I hear ya, im still trying to decide if I want to try Really hard and get down to a size 8. I've been stuck at this weight for close to 9 months and I've tried a couple of times to get down the last 5 to 10 lbs. I have been debating on doing the 5 day test to see what it would do for me. I should just buck down and get it done. Good job on making it this far. I also hear u on the Fritos, damn things...

confuse about fills and average weight lost

I was banded on 12/29/09. My starting weight 228lbs I've had two fills. My first fill was on 01/19/10 for 2cc weight loss of 14lbs, My second fill was on 02/01/10 for 5cc. My weight is the same no weight loss or gain. I have my third fill on 02/15/10 I really haven't felt much restriction. I have not tried to push the boundary either. My band only holds 11cc I only have 4cc left so I hoping the next fill I'm able to loss more weight.:frown:
  17. just got approved through UHC! surgery is scheduled for 12/16 with Dr. Keith Wright in San Antonio, TX! i'm looking to lose about 100 pounds and pre-op diet i've lost 10. i hate low carb!
  18. Hello all my chicagoland buddies!! Iam getting bandded on the 16th. I have been on the two week pre diet and its been hard but already lost about 10 lbs. Even with a few screw ups. I live in oswego and DR. Woodward is doing my surgery.
  19. I am careful with what I eat and I track everything but I would never call it a diet. The tracking is for my information only and helps me stay focused and grounded. I did stop tracking for a week when I went on vacation and I maintained/lost a tiny bit that week. I know people who have done really well limiting themselves and being incredibly strict and focused, and people who have done well with some of the above responses (I eat whatever I want, just less) and I don't think anyone can judge from the outside which approach will work. I have taken a moderate approach. I don't call anything off limits unless it makes me feel physically ill. I exercise hard, about 3 or 4 times a week. I lose a little more slowly than some but (despite my ticker, which I can't seem to change) I am about 13 pounds from my personal goal at 10 months out. I actually adjusted my official calorie count up recently with the aim of not eating back my calories when I work out. In other words, just calling it 1300-1400 calories rather than having my goal as 1200 calories and eating more the day of or after exercise. Strangely that has taken some pressure off. I have yet to eat up to the new amount. Who knows? I think I do better mentally with just a bit of slack, but that's me.

    Post Operation Pain

I'm taking two weeks off. I'm 10 days post-op and started back walking almost immediately. I feel great and my energy level is fine. I'm still on full liquids, getting plenty of protein (Premier Protein shakes) so that's got to be why I feel good.
  21. I agree with Kathy in that 60 minutes at a stretch is a bit much. My doctor recommends 10 minutes at a time to total up to about 30 minutes a day. He also says to push if you want to, but listen to your body. We're in Texas, so it's sweltering hot. He says to work out in the early mornings/ Late evenings or go do the infamous MALL WALK.

    People like me

Nope, I am all set for the sleeve. I've been looking into doing something like this for the last 10 years. I am not real keen on the idea of a bypass.
  23. Hi! I hear ya! Had RNY last Wednesday and gained 10 pounds of fluid in the hospital! I have just about gotten down to my surgery weight. I have a severe pain on the left side under my ribcage that really hurts when I breathe. However, I'm doing better than I expected, am hitting 90 ounces of fluids a day, taking vitamins, and trying to walk every day. I'm pretty excited I had it done, too! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
