    Complications

Thank you for the links. I am more than willing to risk the complications for the benefits of the surgery. My concern is that right now my surgery is scheduled 24 days prior to my wedding. So I am trying to decide if the risks are worth taking before the wedding. Having the surgery scheduled when it is works best for work and making the life changes I am trying to make for us as a couple to make this successful. That is if everything goes well. If I get a complication and have to be in the hospital for several weeks that would obviously not be good for the wedding situation. When I had my beginning appointments it was very positive regarding the timing and that they didn't think it would be a big deal to have it when it is scheduled. Today I got a call saying that the team had their mandatory meeting to discuss the case and now they wanted me to rethink the timing "just in case." So it made start to question my decision.
  2. I bought a Ninja early on and started trying to puree things. I was making meats in the crock pot and saving the broth for veggie purees. I got a case of Apple Melon Isopure. That is the only one I really liked. I also have unjury chicken Soup, GNC Lean 25 Vanilla and banana. I just went to pick up UNJURY Vanilla for this week during liquid diet. It has less calories and I am mixing it in Silk light soy milk. So, I needed to reduce the calories. Certain flavors don't taste that great to me with just Water. So, I tried the soy milk. Did your clinic give you a book? I have an entire list that includes both types of foods and meal ideas per meal. Hope this all comes together for ya soon!

    VSG Surgery

I was great coming out of it and for the first 2 weeks. But these last 2 weeks I've been so nauseous. I have headaches. Can't poop. Kinda sucks. But at the end of the day, worth it. 100% worth it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  4. I am only 5 1/2 weeks out but i find that dinner is my biggest problem. I think because I am eating too fast. I am trying to slow down but its not that easy because after two bites i remember and I am full! But I find that I do best with shrimp, crawfish, fish, and crab meat. I have tried chicken, can chicken, ground turkey, ground beef etc. It sits in my stomach like a brick and I usually throw up. If you like seafood try it. Others have said the samething it seems to go down nicely.
  5. Hi all, On tuesday I'll be 5 weeks post op. I was doing really great and lost about 17 pounds from my surgery on 12/16 till New Years. Since the 1st, I have gained two pounds. I'm still not eating that much, and I'm walking around, taking my Vitamins, and trying to drink as much Water as I can. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Could I be eating too little? Any suggestions to help me get out from this stall will be appreciated. I'm feeling pretty unmotivated - this was such a big decision to do this surgery, and I'm worried that I made a mistake by choosing to do it.

    Breakfast!

I eat an egg every day for breakfast, sometimes with bacon, sometimes with steak, less often with ham or sausage. Or I will eat a 1/3 cup of omelet with a dribble of cheese, and onion, pepper, mushrooms, avocado, and a bite of fresh tomato. It may have a few calories, but I eat it in the morning and have the rest of the day to adjust my food choices. Haven't tried oatmeal since I have a strong issue of stalling when my carbs go over 20 per day.
  7. My surgery was 3/27 but my Dr keeps us on a 2 week liquid diet (I should move to soft foods by the end of the week). One of the things that has really helped me to get my protein in is Unjury protein products. You can order a sample pack that gives you about 10 packets fairly inexpensive. I like the Chicken soup flavor as a broth or the Strawberry Sorbet with crystal light lemonade. Both give you 21 g of protein plus you're getting your liquids in at the same time. Personally, I started feeling so much better when I increased my protein levels (getting 60-70 g of protein every day) and it helps boost your energy too.

    Is this okay?

I think that you need to watch your sodium intake and your carb intake. I was at a stall for two weeks and I started tracking my food and was getting way to many carbs. As soon as I started lowering the carbs to around 30-40 my stall broke. Sounds like most of your protein is processed and will contain a lot of sodium. The web site "my fitness pal" has a great calorie counter that has tons of food already in it along with carbs and thats how I figured out I was getting 75-100 carbs a day.
  9. Hi Mr. Mason Thanx for the response. I think the "anticipation" and eagerness to lose SOME weight is stressing me; especially this week. Besides reading and working my Options book, I also research the internet to find all info I can in preparation for this surgery; also post-paration (if this is a word, lol) .... Emotionally I am ready, but the mental part of me is the pre-surgery weight. I exercise (walk) daily. It is part of my day. Three 30 minute walks with three other co-workers is a ritual daily. Zumba class 2 nights a week. I moving but the scale is not. Now I will continue to work hard and go harder with all my might. Feet can't fail me and God will not either. Faith is all I have.

    Tomorrow is the day!!!

Wendy & Anne, My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I look forward to following your progress. It will be uncomfortable for a few days but you have come a long way to get here. My date just got moved up 2 weeks to June 16. I can't wait. God Bless, Carol D':smile2:
  11. Hello I would suggest that you go with what surgery is best for you - not let your schooling decide for you! School can be postponed, your health cannot! However, that being said, I would say that in your situation, a band would be better as there's less healing to go through. Remember that with a Bypass you'll have had major major surgery, spent some time in Intensive Care and been pretty poorly. With a band there is not a single change to your anatomy, and to be honest, after 10 days I was feeling more or less back to normal. The "lack of food thing" you speak about - I feel no different - no ligtheadedness etc. I've had my 2nd fill and I'm still not at my sweet spot yet, but I'm getting there and am losing weight slowly. To those that don't know i've had the band, my diet is working well!!!! After the band the pain was completely tolerable - only 2 or 3 days of taking pain killers, and then rest for a few days. after 10 days I was out walking 3 miles a day and enjoying the rest of my time off work (My GP signed me off work for 3 weeks!!!!! - totally unecessary!)

    Success Stories Please

I had similar experience with the band more pain versus satisfied. I think it takes relearning with the sleeve. Eat till no longer hungry (this applies once you ate 6 plus weeks out before that eat according to surgeon guide). Over time you learn that full is too much and uncomfortable. So eating till no longer hungry keeps a good restriction feeling. I Am 2.5 Years From Revision AND Maintaining.
  13. First, let me just say I am sorry for your frustration and that I completely understand. I'm 5 weeks post op and and don't have a fill in sight- I'm self pay so I have to save up for it. But that said, I am running on straight up will power! And it has been a struggle, but I'm doing it. And you can too! What worries me is that you said you are eating what you did and how much you did before. Ask anyone- the band is not a magical cure. It is a helper. We still have the same obese brain we did before! We can't do anything about that. You really just need to learn to change your thinking. Try tracking all of your food. I use myfitnesspal.com. It's wonderful. I eat 1200 calories per day and also track my exercise there too. I have no restriction right now so I really need to watch what goes in my body. We all do! And this way, I'm training my mind to eat the right foods so that when I do have proper restriction I will stay on track even more. I lost 10 pounds pre-op and 12 so far post-op. This past week was a struggle and I stopped losing but I refuse to give up or gain. Remember, it's completely up to you! You/I/We are our own worst enemy... Work on the mental side of it until you can have the physical part on your side. That way you can be even more successful. If you don't tackle the mental part then you will always find a way to "cheat" the band- so I've heard.... Good luck, and keep us all updated!
  14. There has been some truly scary moments, but I think the pre-journey phase when they realized I had a tumor in my stomach (the original reason for deciding to go ahead and get the sleeve), and just after surgery - my Mom died on my 1 week anniversary.
  15. So I'm officially one week out as of today. Have been able to hit Fluid and Protein goals since day 3, and only took pain meds for first two days. Went back to work on day 4. I feel very lucky and blessed as it seems there are many who've had a rough go of it in the first few weeks. I'm down 21 lbs since preop, with 5lbs lost since sx. Not too concerned yet as I know I was very bloated on fluids in the hospital. Doc gave me a good report and even told me to start purees early if I wanted (org told start purees at 2 weeks). Can't wait to see where I'm at in a month! HW: 374 1/15/16 SW: 263 11/10/16 CW: 258 11/17/16 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Ranting

thank you guys. I do know that theres a very good chance I'll be a slow loser even with the sleeve. Realisitically I cant say I wont ever get disappointed at a stall, but Ill know that Im on the right track so itll be a bit easier (I think) to stay positive. Im ok with working out and eating well. As long as its actually doing something. Because right now it isn't. And I am coming off the adipex. I see my DR next month so I will be discussing with him whether I wean or I can just come right off. I have a few months of this process left so I should be ok to have them out of my system by the time I see a surgeon. Right now Im still jumping through insurance hoops so itll be a while before I get the sleeve done., I guess I just got sick of waiting. I feel like im in a fatty limbo. I know Im going to do something about it, but I have to wait. So I guess I thought I could drop some decent weight while I was waiting. Oh well. Anyway thanks for all the input guys I appreciate it!!

    Pre-op diet

I got my date (November 19, 2014). So excited. ???? I have even stated getting ready for the 2 weeks liquid diet. During the day I've been drinking the protein drinks along with all types of liquids, like broth, jello and ice pops. I eat dinner when I get home. Then 2 days last week I went the entire day liquids. I did good. My family helped by cooking dinner, I went into my bed room ????. This test really helped me. The thought of going cold turkey all at once was causing me stress. I lost 10 pds already. I even thought of not doing the surgery but I know the 10 pds won't stay off if I don't get the lap ban. I took the 10 pd loss as a sign that I am ready for this and I can do it. Lisa

    Pre-op diet

I struggled this weekends, it was really hard. I do better during the week because I'm at work and I'm very busy. To make things worse I have been sick. I just got finish telling myself you can do this, so I got up and got a protein drink. I want a bag of chips so bad right now. It is a mind thing. If I get to hungry, I have been eating eggs or broth with white chicken meat in it. In my house Sunday is pasta night, this was the worse night yet. I love, no, I am addicted to pasta. ????. Not being able to eat pasta last night made me very depressed ????. It even made me rethink about having the procedure. I went to my room closed the door and I survived. 10 more days, seems so long. I have lost 15 pounds already.
  22. Hey Tasham! First time in two weeks I've been on the computer, we've been out of town. So you got your letter!! Won't be long now and you will be amazed at what an easy surgery this is. I saw my Dr. the day we left town and he said I was "doing great." I told him I felt he hadn't done much of a surgery on me as I could still eat anything. I thought I'd be sick if I took a bite of anything forbidden but not so. He said I could eat anything I wanted too, I'd just not be able to eat much of it. And that is true, few bites and you can feel your stomach telling you "I'm though!" Make sure you are taking your vitamins and have plenty of protein handy. Keep me updated, I'll be thinking of you.

    Socializing after sleeve

Hey Cubbie, It'll be weird at first, but once you have a fewer food restrictions, you'll be able to join right in (just will eat and drink in much smaller quantities). I had to attend work meetings, lunches and dinners as early as 1 week post-op. You can do it - but like I said, it's weird at first, but once you see it's not as bad as you thought, you get through it. I focus on the conversations and make the interaction more about that than the food or drinks.

    So cold

I am at Nine months, and I'm still very cold. However sometimes I do warm-up and I noticed that this is when I'm actually in a stall with my weight. So when I'm cold I lose when I warm I don't.
