  1. Ok, so I think I have this same issue, 5 days out. Just a small amount of drink or yogurt and I can almost set a timer for when it hits the top of my stomach, resulting in a crampy feeling that's distressing as it is uncomfortable. I've found that breathing deeply a few breathes after swallowing greatly relieved this condition. I hope this helps others. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. You can put some crystal light in it.I also use sugar free syrups. In coffee section at walmart.Mio.I use these in greek yogurt too.

    FINALLY A DATE!

Omg! I haven't been experimenting just yet. I am getting Water in finally! I have a 20 oz. cup that I keep all day and I always keep it filled. By the end of the day I have drunk over 60 oz of water. I also do crystal light so that I'm not drinking plain all day, so after I drink 20 oz of plain water, I fill my cup up with 20 oz of crystal light. How did you make your tuna? I want to try it but scared that it will not taste right. All I eat now is yogurt and mashed potatoes. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    HOLIDAYS!

1 Month out... My surgery was Dec 1st. I was 263, I am almost 5'2". After surgery the first 3 weeks i was in severe pain. My only issue was pain. I could tolerate the shakes, Vitamins, Water, Soups, all the necessary requirements. I never suffered from nausea nor have i vomited once. Every Now and again i get the stuck feeling but nothing serious. Just pain... I had catscans ave several test which were all normal. I may have pulled an abdominal muscle is the only culprit my doctors had. Today i can't stand Protein Shakes. And honestly my diet is not right. I have progressed to soft foods... Mainly fish which i can eat a few ounces with no problem. I think actually all i eat is fish cheese and greek yogurt. I can stomach Isopure but it takes all day to get through. I miss most... salad. I can't wait for raw veggies. I stalled from week 3-4 with no change in weight... And that was also christmas where i tasted pinches of all wrong things while visiting family. Total lost thus far 23 lbs... i am 240... And its been forever. I notice the weight lost in my face, mainly my cheeks. My guy rubbed my back and said it was easier for him to rub... Not as wide. MEN#. I can tell my upper body has lost some fat but not really noticeable in clothes yet, i have a little room in my thighs in some of my tight pants but not yet at a place of buying smaller clothes. Hormones... 1st i've been a lil aroused. I haven't really been in about 6 or more months. The big change... So far i'm late and i have been on schedule most of my life so this is a new phenomenon. No feeling of blues or regret. Wish everybody health and success!
  5. So everyone says my main focus should be consuming a certain amount of protein and water. Well I find myself not getting enough of either so I started making my protein shakes stronger like 60 grams in one shake so i could reach my protein goal but this ended up mounting to 380 calories in one drink. Is that a bad thing? The break down is 8oz fair life milk (13g protein 80 calories) 1 scoop whey protein powder ( 30g protein 180 calories) 1 frozen triple zero greek yogurt (15g protein 120 calories) blended into one drink...

    Alli Quark yogurt

Quark isn't quite the same as yogurt, but it's similar. It's actually considered a cheese. I've had it occasionally. I think it's supposed to be more nutritious than yogurt. some of the sugar in yogurt is just milk sugar (lactose), which is even in plain yogurt (or in milk), so I just worried about it if it seemed really high in sugar or had the word "sugar" in the ingredient list. I eat Fage, Chobani, and Dannon Fit & Light, mostly - although I've had Dannon Oikos and that's good, too
  8. So I found this yogurt at target today and it really appealed to me because it was the only yogurt I could find with an acceptable amount of sugar which is a gram because it is sweetened with stevia. My physician said anything above four grams of sugar was not something I should consume. Has anyone else heard anything about it? What kind of yogurt do you eat? 9. Hi! I'm only day 5 post op but have a question... When you make your protein drink it's at least 8 oz right? Is this a meal replacement for you or a snack in addition to your meals? Confused on how someone said they can take a Greek yogurt and glass of Oj with genpro in morning.. Wouldn't that be too much for stomach?? Thanks for your insight Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App Hi! I put one scoop of Genepro (30 gram protein equiv) in about a quarter cup of OJ. So overall very little volume. I take it almost like a shot glass of alcohol. At first I had to take smaller sips. I also have a standard serving of Greek yogourt and my multivitamins in the morning with it. Hope that clarifies! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thanks for that, that makes sense. I was thinking you did 8oz of oj. Gonna try genpro, doing unjury now and I can taste it Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

    December bypass buddies

Is anyone experiencing foamies? I am 3 weeks post surgery. Anytime I eat anything besides yogurt or apple sauce I have way too much salvia that makes me get sick. I am eating very slowly and this happens after 2-3 super small bites. I can't seem to get much in. I also have a tightness in my chest when I eat ( even 2-3 bites) Anyone know how to prevent foamies/ slimies or what the chest pain is about? Happy new year Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    January 2017 Sleevers

@@barcelona37 my nut said I would have to continue with the protein shakes but I know there are some high protein veg foods like seitan. At this point I'm only 4 days out of surgery but I am committed to staying vegan whatever it takes. I brought a couple of protein powder individual packs to the hospital and my blender bottle as I wasn't sure they would have anything for me. I'm glad I did as they tried to serve me yogurt and ensure for my first protein meal. The hospital didn't even have soy milk to blend my powder with but water worked ok.

    Unflavored protein

You can mix Protein in anything. My friend mixed it in her Greek yogurt. Just be careful when mixing it with hot foods. Anything over 140 changes the textures of the Proteins Sent from my LG-D850 using the BariatricPal App

    Puree stage

I was sleeved December 7th but I'm currently 3 weeks into my pureed stage and i actually like it. I was started a bit earlier than other people for specific reasons. I LOVE pureed eggs lol. They are so yummy and are one of the two foods that got me through the past few weeks. My doctor's plan for pureed stage allowed scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, hummus, refried Beans, and creamy soups. He also gave me the go ahead to eat string cheese, but i bite into it. I do not handle soups well so i stick to what i like. For the person who said they can't do pureed eggs, it's really simple. My mom makes me a soft boiled egg and then she purees it in the blender with a laughing cow wedge and a sprinkle of black pepper. It comes out delicious and i love it. Comes out to 2.1 oz or so (i weigh everything), but i can usually eat only half. I absolutely love the laughing cow cheese, and i think it can be a major helper to anyone's diet. They have like 10 flavors and i'm sure there's something for everyone. My favorites are french onion, light swiss, white cheddar, and spicy pepper jack. All delicious with an egg. You can also mix and match, depending on how your tummy handles certain foods. I sometimes mix my egg with hummus, or salsa, or fava beans, or refried beans with salsa...and so on. I have followed my surgeon's instructions to the letter and have really enjoyed this stage. Much better than liquids for me. And since i've been doing so well, he gave me the green light to start trying soft foods on Wednesday. Tuna, salmon, tilapia, crab meat, and shrimp....can't wait! It's definitely a process, and sometimes it can be frustrating, but if you can find a way to make something you'll like and stick with it, it will go by quickly.

    3rd day post op

Sleeved 12/27. Pain mild at the big incision but tolerable. I have bad gurgling when I sip fluids or eat Jello, sometimes uncomfortable. I tried yogurt, and vomited, so it's too thick for me yet. I'm not getting enough fluids in and feel discouraged. Applesauce isn't on my list of foods until pureed next week, I'm jealous. Sent from my SM-N910R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Pre op liquid diet

Honestly u will feel like crap but once you get surgery, the hunger subsides. Like the comment below, sugar free popsicles really do help. Also since you are allowed vegetables try a hidden valley greek yogurt seasoning pack and mix it with plain greek yogurt..it is not the same as ranch but tastes okay. Good luck Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

  24. style="margin:0;padding:0;background-color:#d8dde8;color:#5a5a5a;font:normal 13px helvetica, arial, sans-serif;position:relative;"> Hey BariatricPal Members! Happy New Year! It’s an exciting time for anyone, and especially for the BariatricPal community. It is a time to think about hopes and dreams for the coming year, and to reflect on how lucky we are to have each other for support. That’s exactly what this newsletter is about, and here is what you will find. A Fresh Start in the New Year Setting Your Path for 2017 Getting Some Help in 2017 We are so grateful for your participation on the BariatricPal Forums, so be sure to login and you can share your tips and ideas with all of the BariatricPal members! Happy New Year! Sincerely, Alex Brecher Founder, BariatricPal A Fresh Start in the New Year Whether or not 2016 went as you had hoped or planned, it’s over. Now, you have the chance to make whatever you want out of 2017. Here are some tips for getting back on track or getting a solid start in the New Year so you can reach your goals. Get Your Kitchen Ready for Weight Loss Be honest, now. What foods have crept into your kitchen since Thanksgiving? Frozen pies and fruit cakes? Some baking mixes and frosting in case you needed to bake a last-minute thank-you gift for someone? Christmas Cookies and fudge from well-wishing friends and relatives? pizza and appetizers from a New Year’s bash? Clean Your Kitchen It is time to clean your kitchen. Get rid of any foods that are tempting you to go off your bariatric surgery diet. Donate them if possible. If not, just throw them away. Quiet that conscience by reminding yourself that the food is better off in the trash can than on your hips, and in neither of those cases are you helping end world hunger. Restock Your Kitchen An empty kitchen is better than one filled with junk food, but it can still get in the way of weight loss. That’s because you are more likely to turn to delivery, take-out, and prepared foods if nothing healthy is on hand. So, restock your kitchen with the basics so you can make healthy meals and Snacks in minutes. Instant shelf-stable Protein Meals from breakfasts to Soups to lunch and dinner Entrees. Pantry goods including canned tuna, salmon, tomatoes, and Beans, nuts, and condiments. Lean Proteins including chicken, fish, tofu, eggs, and yogurt. Fresh vegetables and fruits for snacking, cooking, and salads. Protein snacks including Protein Bars, Protein shakes, and crunchy snacks such as chips and pretzels. You can find plenty of protein choices at The BariatricPal Store, and new customers can use coupon code BPNEWSLETTER10 for a 10% discount of your first order! Delivery from The BariatricPal Store is one kind of delivery that does fit into your WLS diet! Make Those Phone Calls It’s time to do all those things you were too busy to do during the holiday season. To move forward on your weight loss surgery journey, you may need to: Phone your surgeon to schedule a consultation or your surgery. Sign up for a bariatric surgery informational seminar. Find a weight loss surgery support group for pre-op or post-op. Schedule personal training at the gym. Whatever your to-do list includes, it’s time to get to it! You will feel better and be closer to achieving your goals for 2017. Solidify Your Support System You can’t go it alone, so do not even try. Instead, take another look at your support system and see if you can fill in any cracks to make it even stronger. You might want to find an exercise buddy; vow to keep tabs on a coworker who is losing weight in exchange for her doing the same for you; or have another talk with your significant other about which foods you feel comfortable having in the house. Setting Your Path for 2017 We all want basically the same thing for ourselves: control weight and keep it off. It will be easier to get to that goal if you have an idea of which path you will take. Figuring out your path can be a little overwhelming, but here is a little help. Know Your Starting Point Dig deep, because this may take a good amount of soul searching! Your starting point includes knowing your real weight – not an optimistic guess-timate – so hop on that scale. Then consider anything else relevant to your health and weight at this time. For example: Which foods (if any) are still problematic for you. What is holding you back from WLS if you are pre-op. Which health problems or risks you have. Map Your Route Then map your route so you know what you can do to move forwards. You might consider: Getting counseling to deal with emotions in ways other than eating. Setting a date to get back on track with your WLS diet if you got off track recently. Committing (or re-committing) to a workout routine, maybe including milestones such as a hiking trip or 5k walk along the way. Planning the starting date of your pre-op diet to be ready for surgery. You will almost certainly take a few detours along the way. You might even change course entirely. Still, planning your route gives you a path forward. Getting Some Help in 2017 The WLS journey is hard – no question about it. That’s why it’s important to get all the help you can. Here are a few ways to make your journey this year easier. Use Your Resources Think about everything you have heard about support, support groups, and online support groups to make weight loss surgery easier and more effective. Are you taking advantage of them? For example, you can use the BariatricPal forums 24/7 to ask questions and get advice from those who have been there, done that, and those who are going through it at the same time as you. Just hanging out with the community can make you feel more confident and positive about the path you’re on. Make Meals Easier Gourmet cooking gets old fast for most of us. Even without the “gourmet” factor, weight loss surgery menus can take a while to prepare since you need to consider protein and other nutrients and measurements for portion sizes. Meal helpers can relieve the burden in the kitchen and keep your food tasting great. Most grocery stores have all kinds of appetizing time savers, such as pre-cut veggies and pre-washed salads, roast chicken, and frozen pre-formed turkey burger patties. You can also order in, but resist the typical restaurant delivery services. Instead, you are safer with instant low-carb meals and snacks and protein bars and shakes from The BariatricPal Store. They are shelf stable and ready in minutes or immediately, and the selection is varied enough to stave off boredom. I hope you get the help you need and deserve, and that all of your dreams come true in 2017. I look forward to sharing your journey with you. Happy New Year! · Unsubscribe from all BariatricPal E-Mail.

When did you start loving your sleeve?

When I drink Protein shakes I use almond milk. The sleeve made my lactose intolerance way worse! I can't even tolerate Greek yogurt and barely string cheese! I was sleeved 10/21/16. I don't mind the surgery at all. I never ate much to begin with but I realize that I ate more than I am able to now that's for sure! It will get better. Just wish I could figure out how to get fluids down! Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App
