  1. Hey Julie, Congrats on getting your band. Glad to hear that you are getting around pretty good. As far as being emotional you just had a major surgery that is going to change your life and coming off pain meds if you are not use to them can make you feel like you are on a roller coaster. I know I have been heavy most for most of my life, and really never was skinny per say so the thought of me actually being skinny in the future is scary. Change in anyway is scary and stressful, but I keep telling myself that I made a decision to be healthy and to be able to do more with my family instead of finding excuses not to do things or go around others. Stay positive it will pass. At least your home 4 days post op I was on the highway for 10 hours evacuating for hurriccane Gustav on my fourth day  I promise your normal and you will get past it. Hope this helped!! I'm here if you need anything!
  2. Congrats on getting banded tommorrow. I was banded on Aug, 27, 2008 and had my first fill 10/1 and second fill on Monday 11/3. I'm still getting used to be being banded and the new lifestyle but i'll be glad to be your lapband buddy. I was also nervous but 2 mts post op I know it was the best decision I made for me and my family. I am also married, a mother of 2 girls and shortly turning 32, from Louisiana. Good Luck Tommorrow!! :smile2:

    Not feeling full

I'm 3 wks post op and feel the same way. Still feel like I'm dieting since I'm forcing myself to stick to a certain amount. HW(9/3/13)- 284, DOS(9/11/13)-270, CW-254(10/02/13), GW-155(by 9/21/14...my 26th birthday!)

    Hello everyone, Newbie here

Hey Gary! Thank you for the kind words! I am glad to hear you are getting ready for a new journey in your life! :biggrin2: When do you expect to be banded? I went to a nutritionist for 6 months and then waited 3 more months for the insurance to approve me. I had all my docs calling the coordinator to make sure she filed all my papers promptly! HA! I had to follow a 10 day pre op diet that I didn't think I could do but I only had to go on liquids for the last 3 days of the diet and I actually ate loads of Jello to have my mouth feel like it was eating food!:tt2: My great hubby measured all my food out for me that the nutritionist lined up for the diet and he's been my rock as well as many of the fine folks in this forum!:tt2: Kudos to them! :biggrin2: After my surgery I only lost about 8 pounds and I had my first fill the Mar 6 08. I had another tiny fill on the 17th of Apr. On that date my total was 31 pounds lost since I first saw my doc. I walk everyday for 30 minutes. My doc said I only had to go 3 times a week but my skin (being a wiser woman) doesn't have the elasticity the younger folks do so I just extend my walking a bit more to help myself! This band has been a godsend to me and with your back issues it may well be for you to! :frown: Keep me posted on all your advancements! You will not be sorry. Yes, we are limited on what we eat and yes it may take a while longer, but the outcome will be greater than our own expectations! Believe me I know that already!:biggrin2: Keep in touch and the best of luck to you!:w00t:

    Byetta

I have been on byetta for a few months now. At first it diminished my appetite, but I am not feeling it now. I am taking 10mcg's twice a day and I am having trouble taking the meds when I am supposed to. You are supposed to take it 1 hour before b-fast and 1 hour b4 dinner. My schedule is sooooo hectic that I often forget. I am now trying to set my cell phone alarm, but sometimes my son takes my cell. I am also taking 2000mg of metformin before bed (can anyone spell d-i-a-h-r-r-e-a ). I can't wait to get OFF of ALL of these meds!!!!! I am scheduled for band surgery on 5/1. I am not scheduled to see my endocrinologist until 2 weeks after that ... I have seen another injectible medication in a magazine that only needs to be taken once per day. I am going to ask my doc about that one!!! My diabetes is not off the charts, but is still considered within the zone of "diabetes". Hopefully I'll see some positive results after I have lost 10% of my weight!!!

    Blood Sugar Drop

I am 2 months post-op and this is the first time i have had an issue. Every morning at 5:45 am I eat one cup of Special K with a 1/2 cup of 2% milk. That normally keeps me satisfied until about 9:30-10, when I eat my morning snack. This morning I started feeling hungry about 7:45 and by 8:45 I was dizzy. I got nauseated and dizzy, I knew my BS must be low. I got my snack out and when ahead and ate it. And with in 5 min I was fine again, so it had to be my sugar level. It's my TOM, could that be causing problems with my BS? My routine this AM was no diffrent from any other for a month. I just had a fill last Thursday, so I wouldn't think I am need a fill again. I just don't want to start need more to keep my BS up, because that will mean more calories. I had my A1C (diabetic test) checked before surgery and I was fine, not even close to diabetic levels, so I don't think I am having issues with that. Any body else had this problem?
  7. Me too! Don't yet feel very restricted at day 10.

    Stalls really do break!

Congrats! Ever since my 1st stall I keep measurements. They don't let me down when the scale does. good luck! Don't get discouraged, I'm only 12 wks out and down 75! It happens quicker than it seems! Sleeved 10/16/12 http://sleevesister.blogspot.com Sent from my iPhone using VST
  9. In my line of work, I often meet potential clients at Starbucks for the first time. Because we've never seen each other, it's always been my habit to describe myself as "short and round with big curly brown hair" and no one has ever missed me. I can always tell if the person I am meeting is a chubster, too, because they giggle at my comment. Today, I was the only female in the place when a heavier lady walked in who was obviously looking for me. I waved her over to the table and she looked at me and said, "I thought you said you were round. Were you trying to be funny? Making fun of fat people isn't a joke.' EHRMAHGHERRRRRRRD!!! I never even thought about it. I'm still short, I still have big, curly hair, but I'm no longer round. Last year at this time, I was a snug 20/XXL and now I'm a comfy size 10 in skinny pants/medium top. It took me a minute to even figure out what the heck she was referring to when she made the comment. I was so stunned at what happened, I stuttered over my explanation. I tried to explain that I've lost a bunch of weight, yada, yada, yada, but from the look on her face and her response back, I'm pretty sure I offended her and I won't be hearing from her again. Whooooops! There's a habit I'll have to break.

    DOWN day my friends :(

I went for my first post op and everything was great. I have lost 10 pounds since my surgery 11 days ago. Today is another story, I am feeling so down and can't figure out how to deal with it. I went for a long walk, had my soft food, and then started having desire to cheat and attack anything that I get my hand on I haven't had any fills yet so I didn't feel full after my cheat!! I hate myself now and so I am about to take a cool shower and go for another looooooooooooong walk. I WILL NOT DO THIS TO MYSELF AGAIN.
  13. ok... so tomorrow is a week and i feel good... although not eating is so horrible... i hate this liquid diet... i weight myself and i am 19 lbs down, since everything started, i mean the pre-op diet and everything... i have lost about 7 lbs since surgery... i am going to see my surgeon on monday, so i am wondering what he is going to say...
  14. Hi everyone, I've been banded for one-month now (9/1) and am scheduled for a fill on 10/16. I've been enjoying the discussions, but am puzzled by two terms that I don't understand. Since I haven't had a fill yet, I don't know what "sliming" is. Also, don't know what "PBing" is? Can someone please explain? I would appreciate it. :help: :help:

My name is Pattiriciat and i am going to get the lapband as well I am scared yet excited all at the same time. I have very little support and I am afraid i wont be able to, lets say deal with the changes that I will have to do. I am working at a new job after not working for 3 years and my starting weight was 262 now after only 4 weeks I have lost 10 lbs already. I stopped eating at resturaunts daily and i eat more regularly. VG vs Lapband recovery

Good for you , in no time you will see the benefits and it feels good, I know the pre op diet is hard and the 3 weeks post op diet is also but, in about a month and half I know you'll see about 30lbs gone if you follow the rules. You can do it, I did it. I had surgery 10-03-06 and by chrismass I was 200lbs, Started at 245lbs at my pre op visit before surgery. let me know how great you look about 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you are having any problems and someone personal to talk you though this, you can email me. I will help you. When you feel weak and feel like eating the wrong thing i'll be right here for you. We are a family now though the lapband. I'll give you my phone # as so as you email me. God bless you, happy new year and a happy now you.:clap2: you made a good choose with the band.let me know

    no weight loss

At least you dont have to wait for 3 months to get a fill! My surgery was Feb. 24 and my first fill is may 24th, just be patient the weight will start to fall off. I am almost 5 weeks post op and I am down 35lbs, I am a male so I know we lose faster but the first couple of weeks I really didnt lose but 10-12 lbs but the last few weeks I have seen it come off fairly good, and my band is EMPTY with no fill in it at all. I just keep telling myself I didnt gain it all in a couple months I will not lose it all either. Good luck the hard part is over(waiting) and it is time to get your mind in the right place as far as food goes, eat good and excercise will get you there alot faster!
  18. I forget so much I need to fire myself. But don't worry...they can make a size 10 a size 6. Just hard to make a 6 a 10. You'll be fine. Your post made me laugh. Where do you live?

    Sketchers Shape-Ups

Yeah I had a pair of fit-flops also! I wore them when I was shopping in the MOA (Mall of America in MN). The mall has 3 floors, each having a 1 mile perimeter. I was very pleased with them, after 3 miles, I had no pain in my feet, back, legs ext. The only problem was that they were very UGLY! ha. Being 21, I was kind of embarrassed to be wearing them. They made my toes look 10 in long. haha. Anyways, the Shape-Ups, I think, are very cute!

    That moment when...

I still order out on Fridays at work (In my bank Fridays are ten hour days with one break for lunch). And I do throw out most of it. But all those quick stops throughout the day to buy junk? Like doughnuts, pastry, chocolate, kfc, Coolattas, and chips? No more. Now when I go out I take my little lunch box with small-portioned healthy snacks and/or meals. I'm probably saving $10-15 a day. Now I can put all that money to good use. I bought a Makowsky purse Sunday. It was on clearance for a fraction of it's original price (but still higher than I've ever paid for a purse!) and I figured I saved enough money just in the last two weeks to justify the splurge! :-)
  21. Beautiful! Good luck, I am down 19 in 14 days so excited to start shopping

    Drainage

Thank you for replying. The drainage has just about stopped now but boy it sure did scare me. They said 10 days for stitches to come out, it will be 7 days tomorrow, I'm making an appt to have them out. My port is to the left. I'm sure I'm OK and nothing to worry about.
  23. I hear ya, im still trying to decide if I want to try Really hard and get down to a size 8. I've been stuck at this weight for close to 9 months and I've tried a couple of times to get down the last 5 to 10 lbs. I have been debating on doing the 5 day test to see what it would do for me. I should just buck down and get it done. Good job on making it this far. I also hear u on the Fritos, damn things...

confuse about fills and average weight lost

I was banded on 12/29/09. My starting weight 228lbs I've had two fills. My first fill was on 01/19/10 for 2cc weight loss of 14lbs, My second fill was on 02/01/10 for 5cc. My weight is the same no weight loss or gain. I have my third fill on 02/15/10 I really haven't felt much restriction. I have not tried to push the boundary either. My band only holds 11cc I only have 4cc left so I hoping the next fill I'm able to loss more weight.:frown:
  25. just got approved through UHC! surgery is scheduled for 12/16 with Dr. Keith Wright in San Antonio, TX! i'm looking to lose about 100 pounds and pre-op diet i've lost 10. i hate low carb!
