Hi guys, I've never thought I'd be able to hear this in a million years, but my nutritionist wants me to gain a bit of weight by adding 200 more calories a day, I'm not anorexic, but it scares the sh*t out of me to make myself eat more food than I already am. I'm a long-time platelet donor with the Red Cross and if I drop below 110 I can't donate any more, so I have the motivation, but I know from years of dieting that one the weight comes back on it really comes back on. Have any of y'all had this issue and how did you deal with it emotionally? Thanks, y'all are the BEST!

My first bit of advice would be to track your food intake for a while (if you are not already). It will help you stay conscious of what you’re eating and how much. You may be able to adjust your intake for gains and losses of you track. Secondly is try to be patient. Sometimes secondary WLS doesn’t give immediate results. You may get to goal slower but you can still get there. You may need work for it a little more. Finally, reflect or seek assistance to understand what occurred that led to your regain and if you can prevent it from happening again. Good Luck!

Mine has faded, but is not completely gone (yet). Also hoping it will go away completely after more weight loss. -
Bile Duct an Gallbladder Issues
knightbills replied to sunnynonni's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
An unfortunate side effect of rapid weight loss such as is usually experienced after weight loss surgery is the formation of gallstones. Some sources say that gallstone formation can be found in as many as 35% of weight loss surgery patients. -
We all carry our weight in different places regardless of what we weigh. I’m still an hour glass & my friend is still pear shaped. Unfortunately we can’t do much to change that except through surgery. Liposuction maybe an option if it continues to bother you though you may end up with more loose skin. It sounds like you’ve been fortunate in regards to not having a lot of loose skin though. I was doing well until I lost the 10kg below my goal but I don’t have a lot - pinches not handfuls. 😁 I also found that in the months after I lost the weight, the remaining fat redistributed itself a bit. My face doesn’t look as gaunt & my butt, while still pretty flat & has a little more shape. So the body you have when you hit goal may be a little different a few months later. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

Has anyone regretted getting the surgery?
Arabesque replied to Roses436's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don’t regret it at all. I’ve made some decisions to cut certain foods out of my diet but they were danger foods for me & I don’t really miss them. For example I avoid sweets (no cakes, biscuits, desserts) but I had dessert & cake at Christmas. Was never a fast food person so cutting that out was no loss. Used to have takeaway about once a month. Now I’ve only had takeaway food a couple of times in almost two years while with friends (Chinese & gyoza) & again don’t really miss it. How much or how often you eat certain ‘bad’ foods is up to you. Your tummy may restrict you eating some foods depending on your surgery (sweet or fatty foods can cause issues for bypass people) but it is individual. Don’t understand the no red meat advice. I’m a big carnivore & only issue I have is if it is too fatty like pork ribs (pork tenderloin is fine). Can’t do oily fish either but I wasn’t great with fatty/oily foods before surgery either. My GP was very supportive. I’m sorry yours isn’t. What are their reasons for you not having the surgery? What are their reasons for not supporting you to make the changes for a healthier life? -
VSG to RYGB - after 5 years with VSG
Paradigm Star replied to Paradigm Star's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Greetings Coexister, i does seem that I am not a dumper either because I’ve tested this several times. I did get a bad reaction from drinking whole milk kefir. I got a stomachache. I wonder is this a form of dumping syndrome? When I drank low fat or non fat kefir, I absolutely had no problems with the kefir. However, when I had a frozen yogurt, I didn’t experience any sickness in my physical body. In terms of losing weight, for the last three weeks, I have stayed the same weight. I haven’t gained or loss weight. I guess that’s a good thing. You know something, Coexister? I have often wondered if my Bariatric Surgeon actually did the RYGB on me. My recovery is very similar to when I got the VGS in 2016. I control my snacking by putting everything I eat in my dietary journal. My dietitian gave me a calorie target and I rarely go above my calorie target. If there’s a particular snack I want to have, I budget for it within my calorie budget. I also read these forums for insight and inspiration as everyone that uses these forums have pearls of wisdom to offer each other. I have no regrets that I proceeded to revision to the RYGB because I my weight is coming down again and I have no more GERD & heartburn anymore. I also can’t risk get throat cancer from the hideous GERD I suffered from before I had my RYGB. 😃 I am six weeks post op and today was my first day back on solid food. I’m going back on solid food slowly - introducing each new food slowly back into my diet. -
I hope my children are supportive.

My 4 kids (ages 6-15) know I’ve had surgery(ies) for weight loss and other things. I started changing things pretty slowly. Picking a new vegetable to try once a month, making a healthier version of their favorite foods. Buying healthier versions of their favorite condiments (sugar free ketchup, light or fat free dressings, light Mayo, etc.). Having them help cook meals made them more likely to enjoy them with me. Sure they still eat Mac and cheese, instant ramen, and chicken nuggets but those are the nights I’m glad I have leftovers from a healthy meal I made earlier in the week or can make a salad. Its all about balance and kids get that if you talk to them about it and reassure any fears or answer any questions they might have. I think teaching them that healthy doesn’t have to mean boring has also been a huge plus (for me at least). -
I hope my children are supportive.

I've been listening to the Weight Loss Surgery podcast and Lisa Lampanelli's Get Stuffed. She is one of my fave comics and she had a sleeve in 2014-15. They both cover these topics in episodes. I find most people are afraid of change, but to quote my favorite business book -Sacred Cows Make the Best Burgers. Best of luck to you! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi. I got sleeved on April 10th. I’ve lost 14 lbs so far. I know weight loss won’t always be this rapid but I’m curious about how confident everyone is about their shrinking size. I’m looking to order some summer clothes. Just a few things. If I order some things for say July, would you order a size or two smaller? I’m concerned if I wait until late June there won’t be anything left! What did, or would, you guys do?

Gastric Sleeve and Reflux
Lori E replied to Lori E's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m sorry to hear you’re having such bad reflux now. I hope all goes well with your revision. Of course I still have to talk to my surgeon but I’m definitely leaning towards bypass. The thought of my reflux getting worse really worries me. And congratulations on your weight loss - it looks like you’re doing great with that part of it. It’s so encouraging to see people’s post-surgery stats. -
Thank you for all the replies! I had my 6 week post op appointment today and I was told I’m actually ahead of where I was expected to be for my weight loss, so that felt good!

I never really had a stall either. I just merged my weight loss charts since around Pre-op and have weighed in daily and only missed a few days of recording. This didn't start at my top weight of 280 either as I had lost some weight earlier in the year. This starts a few days after I started my pre-op diet and prior to my surgery on 11/11/20. You can also notice that it was really fast at the beginning and has slowed down the last while as I am at maintenance weight already.

Any April 2021 surgeries?!
Blueslily replied to KidaandRoux's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ok. First half day of work down. I gave myself permission to take a late morning walk at 11a. Walked for 25 minutes. Felt good to not be sitting and to be outside for fresh air. I learned that eating a scrambled egg for breakfast will not work. I tested egg yesterday afternoon. It was fine. But, apparently on an empty stomach might not be ok. I didnt vomit, but I could feel a little nausea at the very first tiny bite, so I stopped and drank a protein drink instead. Ate some blended chicken salad, 2 ounces, for lunch before I left so I could stay on food schedule. No problems. It tasted great. I use a mini blender to break it down a lot since many people on this site say chicken gets stuck for them. By blending, no stuck issues so far. I did find that I eat a little faster at work then home. So, i will need to purposefully not multitask going forward at work when eating. No weird questions from colleagues today. I've been gone three weeks, but no one saw me today. I worked in my office and rarely left it today. I start seeing clients next week and start hosting meetings again this Friday. So, I'm guessing questions will start more when I interact with folks more. Today the few comments about my absence were people saying that it's great that i took some time off from work. With COVID, we talk a lot about self care at work. So, I'm guessing that's what folks who are not as close to me assumed. As the week progresses, people closer to me will reach out. You can see a little weight loss in my face. I haven't told anyone at work about my surgery. Only my supervisor knows I was on Sick leave for some type of surgery. None of her business what specifically. We will see if she kept that to herself or not. Time for water! Using crystal lite. By the afternoon, drinking plain water comes with a nasty taste in my mouth. So, I drink one bottle of crystal lite a day which is usually in the evening. I limit it to one since it has artificial sugars. 🙂 -
Gastric Sleeve and Reflux
starladustangel replied to Lori E's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would not get sleeve if you already have reflux. I had no reflux before my sleeve at all but now have such severe GERD I have to revise to bypass. Sleeve was great for me weight loss wise as I lost all my excess weight but the GERD has been awful. -
My surgery is May 12th and I just started my pre-op diet today. So far, so good. I know from past experience with medically supervised weight loss that I will be sick of protein shakes by the end of this week, so any creative suggestions from others on how to tolerate the sweet is welcome. I bought some Unjury chicken flavored protein powder and tried it today, but couldn't get through the whole serving of it. Glad to have others with May dates to share the journey with!

Post-op hair loss: men/folks with short hair
2Bsmaller18 replied to james2021's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine loss was all over. If I had short hair it wouldn't have shown any patches just thin everywhere. -
I never hit a stall but never had a huge loss initially. Mine was slow and steady for 6 months.
-
I did not stall at all. There may have been a couple days in a row that I didn't lose weight here and there, but every week, I logged a loss.
-
Hello! I'm new to this forum, and to weight loss surgery. I just started my pre-op diet today, in advance of my surgery, scheduled for May 12, 2021. I have been reading others' comments and finding so much information and encouragement through your journeys. I look forward to the day when my story and success will help others.

The third week stall that is so common signals a change in your weight loss character, from the initial loss which comes primarily from glycogen (short term reserves of stored carbohydrate) and the associated water weight to the longer term draw from our fat reserves once the glycogen has been depleted. This can take some time to shift gears (and sometimes very little.) I, too, never had a third week stall, but there was certainly a slow down in loss rate right at the three week mark (fat burns more slowly than glycogen/carbohydrate, on the order of the classic 3500 calories per pound vs. around 2000 calories per pound.) My only real stall (a week without loss, by my definition) was at about four months for a week, when I was travelling, so it was possibly a result of increased sodium intake from eating out more (I usually would gain 2-4 lb on those trips, which would dissipate within a week - classic water weight.) Why didn't we stall and others did? It might be random chance, or it might be that our metabolisms are still fairly robust, or maybe diet is not a low in carbohydrate as many maintain, so the glycogen reserves were able to more quickly return to a functional level. Whatever the cause, enjoy the ride!

Guys, I need some encouragement here. I had my sleeve done on April 6, and everything went as planned. However, after losing 21 pounds in fourteen days, I have been stalled for a week! I'm seriously crashing here, because it's like all my failures in weight loss are coming back! I am following the dietician's recommendations to the letter, walking 2 miles each day. . .HELP!!!

Post-op hair loss: men/folks with short hair
Hop_Scotch replied to james2021's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Most people with WLS will have some type of hair loss due to the stress of surgery, low calories and the hair growth cycle. My hair isn't as short as yours but I do consider it shorter. My hair is curly and the individual hairs are quite fine. It did thin out as I got older (I am now 58). About three months post op it did fall out at a much greater rate than it usually did, this continued until fairly recently (maybe 4 or 5 weeks a go). It didn't get patchy/no bald spots. I don't think anyone noticed (other than me and my hairdresser) my thinning out hair during the increased hair loss cycle, but some of that may have been masked by my curly hair. I won't have the volume of my 20s and 30s but the volume is definitely increasing and I have no doubt it will go back to its pre-op volume. -
Post-op hair loss: men/folks with short hair
james2021 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I am female but I wear my hair cut very short, above the ears and buzzed down to a 2/3 on the sides and in the back, longer on top. I'm wondering how noticeable hair loss usually is for hair that is very short to begin with. I did a quick search on the men's forum to see talk about hair loss in general and there wasn't a ton there, leading me to believe it's really just people with long hair who have noticeable issues. Can anyone with very short hair speak from experience? I'm just wondering, like, will I have bald patches or anything? Thank you. ❤️
