Weight History

a 2 year weight history seema a bit extreme. I would get ahold of them and ask questions. I was told to do the 6 month diet like you're doing because I didn't have a bunch of papers on past weight loss.
2. I am 61 years old, 5'5" tall and weigh about 250 lbs. I have gradually gained so much weight in the last ten years but it has effected my health. I have sleep apnea, gerd, also a hiatal hernia, and an abdominal hernia for the second time in about 3 years, this one is bigger than the other one. I need that taken care of but because I am overweight I think I probably will get one again. I also take medication for high blood pressure, high colesteral, overactive bladder, depression, and copd. Would I even be qualified to get a lap band with these health problems? Another question is I am on Social Security Disability with medicare and medicaid coverage. Would I be covered for this procedure? Any responses from you are appreciated.

face cream

What is a good face cream...I'm not exactly a young chicken and I really don't want to age quickly as I lose weight. The fat has kept the wrinkles at bay up until now...
4. Its been just over 1 month since I was sleeved and Im 52lbs down. My doctor cannot believe it. He told me that he has never had a patient loose so much weight so quickly. Since my wife also was sleeved, they want us to do a testiomial for his news letter and for the hosipital. I was also asked to speak to the support groups and want to hear all the low fat, health recipies i came up with. By far this was the best thing I have ever done.
5. Hello everyone! My name is Amanda, I am 25 years old and live in Ohio. My whole life I have been battleing my weight. I have tried WW, low-carb, low-calorie dieting over and over with little sucess. So now I am looking into GB. I am just in the very begining phase of this process. I have contacted my insurance, which will cover it thankfully:) My BMI is 52 which is high enough that my insurance company does not require me to to a 6 month medically managed weight loss plan. I also have done tons of reading and research. I am scheduled to go to a seminar on August 5th at the hospital which I believe I would go through. They have a very comprehensive program. I was just wondering if I could get some feedback from thos of you out there that have already went through the surgery or even the whole pre-op process...... How long did it take to get everything completed for surgery? What types of medical testing was required? What kind of diet are you on pre op? Any thing else you wish to add feel free! Just looking for some opinons .....if I do decide to go through with GB I would prefer this method.

HOPEful about first fill....???

I'm having my first fill on Monday. I was banded on Nov 28 in Tijuana. The weight is coming off and I hope the fill will make it easier to lose. How does it feel getting the fill? does it hurt, any side affects. Mark
7. I just found this site about a week ago and have found it SOOOO helpful. Not only in reading so many people's experiences, challenges and even some of the negative. Reading about the statistics available which appear to be limited since the Sleeve is still considered fairly new for historical data, but when I did the VBG so long ago, the internet wasn't really a tool to do research like this and I just went with what the surgeon suggested. The other issue is there wasn't any post-op support outside of clinical surgery follow ups from his office. I did manage to loose probably 70% of the weight I had hoped, it has come back over the years. I'm not blaming the surgeon, just wish that there had been support groups and a referral to a nutritionist back then because I think if I had access to someone to help me learn a better lifestyle choices, I may have had a better long term outcome. I never even thought about being able to go through another WLS because my surgeon told me back then, this was a "one shot deal". I believed him. Then, a friend who had the lap band a couple years ago said I should look into it and see what my options might be. Since then, I contacted her surgeon and started the process a couple months ago. They told me first I would need to get my medical records from that surgery which took FOREVER... Finally got them last week. I called this morning and now they are mailing me out a packet to fill out and send in for the surgeon to review to see if he thinks I am a surgical candidate. I had hoped I could just bring the medical records in for him to look at with a office consult, but unfortunately not. I also called my insurance company this morning (Aetna PPO) and they cover ALL of the WLS procedures (Sleeve, Lapband, RnY, DS, and something else she called Pancreatic something). I was a bit shocked. What's kind of weird though is even though it was just a phone conversation, I was nervous about calling. Not just because I was afraid of being said it wasn't covered, but just having to ask the question to a stranger wondering what that person would think. Oh well... I would like to loose about 100 to 120#, think my BMI is 35. I'm really starting to get excited about getting things back on track!! This website is awesome!
8. I would ask for documentation in those eight months when they informed you that you were making mistakes. I would ask them if their job was meant to be guidance for someone who has already struggled so long or a trick to "catch" you? I would also say "I am not the professional here, if it was as easy as reading a sheet and following it, surgeons would not need you. They would just hand us a sheet and send us on our merry way. The point of a nutritionist is guidance. Show me your guidance. I came to see you "x" number of times and you did not make it clear to me what I was doing wrong." This is assuming that they did not tell you. On the other hand, if you were warned about where you were straying, and chose not to listen then maybe they are right and you need to check. Personally, I think they set us up for failure pre-surgery. If I could stick to a strict plan, I would have lost weight that way in the first place. How very frustrating. Feel free to vent here what you would like to say even if you feel you cannot. Prove them wrong!
9. I was sleeved Jan. 26,2011. I have been very faithful to my post op diet... I am getting all my protein requirements and water intake. I have not eaten any carbs ( breads, potatoes, pasta etc) I have only lost 20 lbs and 10 of that was during my pre op diet. I haven't lost any weight in a week. I am taking in about 600-800 calories daily. I try to walk almost everyday for about 30 minutes. So what gives?!? I am very frustrated and feel so disappointed! Can anyone tell me what to tweak?

Considering Banding

Hi and welcome to LBT! Just make sure this is the best journey of weight loss for you. The LB doesn't work for everybody. On January 28th I will be 2 years into my journey. I have lost 120 lbs so far and want to lose about 55 more. I do not regret one minute of my decision. I knew this journey was the right one for me. Good luck with your weight loss journey hopefully soon you will be setting your surgery date!!! Good luck to you.

Tape Measure?

LOL!! My surgery is May 3 in Bristol CT. I'm very excited but also nervous. I'm down 8 pounds on the pre-op diet but have stayed the same the past few days, but I think it's that time of the month. So I'm hoping for a couple more pounds before Friday, when I have to weight in at the doctors. Where are you having your surgery?

cross fit eating before and after - help

No replacement of electrolytes after cross fit, but I do after running 8 miles or more on a run day. As for master cross fitter, no,no,no... I am a newbie cross fitter and just started getting into it a month ago with my PT, 2x a week. I purchased about 3 months worth of personal training so I can progressively get stronger effectively without hurting my self. I am not an open gym type yet and usually will waste an hour of training if I try and figure it out on my own. Love my personal trainer! She is helping me so much with seeing real gains. She is challenging me, pushing me and not allowing me to give up on that last lift when I want to cave. Or that last set of pull ups. Pull ups are hard for me and I hope they will be "easy" after a couple more months. Strength is really building in upper body so I am able to do 100 lb Olympic lifts and back squats. Bench pressing is currently at 160 lb. I know this is not a lot yet, but am hoping to reach body weight lifts in a month or so and then go from there. I want to be that guy doing a single Olympic lift of 450 lb some day. I can finally do squats with weights, lunges with weights, push ups, pull ups and more. It is exciting to see progress every time I step into a cross fit session. These are way easier then when I started just 3 weeks ago. I could never do these before, especially the lunges. It is also helping I am taking supplements like 3 g Omega 3 and creatine monohydrate after a cross fit session. Thanks you to my VST fitness friends for recommending various supplements along the way. Paleo bar really helps in recovery even though on high calories side @ 300. 17 g carbs of raw honey. I am almost up to 1 g Protein / 1 lb body weight and that is helping tremendously in building the lean muscle ( not trying to bulk out like the muscle heads you see in supplement ads). I would not recommend eating this way if you are not near goal and do not have a rigorous training program. It works for me as my muscles need it during long runs and intense strength training sessions. And it is thrilling to see the scale moving again with the help of my hungry muscles. I am hoping that by the end of 3 months I can confidently do open gym and kill any WOD. Maybe I will go for another PT package. Don't know at this time and will cross the bridge when it comes.

JUST WANTED TO INTRO MYSELF

Hi Renee and welcome to the group!!! Wow you are tackeling alot!!! A great big pat on the back for giving up the smoking and making yourself a priority!! I have 2 boys myself and we are the same height and only 5 pounds off in weight. My DH is also very supportive of my decision. I started back in January (it was my bday gift to myself) joined the gym and started going 2-3x per week. It is a 30 minute circuit workout that is MY time, even when the boys say to me "mom do you have to go today?" my response is yes, it is for me and my health. I am only a week post op, and would I go back??? NO, I have lost 20 pounds since the end of January, only 2 since the surg. but I feel great about my decision and I know that I am on the road to a happier, healthier me. I am only having a problem getting in the 64 ounces of Water every day, not drinking 30 minutes before or after meals, it does take some doing getting the fluids in. I have found myself up in the middle of the night having a glass of water when I put the dogs out. Again as a mom myself we often put ourselves on the backburner, making everyone else the priority-congratulations on putting yourself to the top and taking care of you. Keep us updated on your progress. Best of luck as you continue on your journey.
15. I hope you made the seminar. My wife and I both have had this surgery. It has done tremendous things for us. I am only less than a month post-op and already have lost close to 50 pounds, this is including the pre-op diet. I can relate to thinking that I was smaller when I was really bigger than I thought. Now, that I have been loosing and am on track to continue to lose more, I have already stopped taking many medications I have been on and will see my Primary Care next week to discuss stoping more. I have had more enegery and now am wearing clothes that I have not been able to for years. As far as everything you described medically, you should start seeing some improvements, should you decide this is the option, as you loose weight. Whatever option you choose, as weight comes off, the problems start to resolve. Glad you're here and looking at some options.
16. Hi all, I'm new here, but have found all of your experiences and information on this discussion board very helpful as I consider this procedure. I am 29 years old and 5'2" with a BMI of 42 right now. In all honesty, I think I suffer from a delusion that I am a thin, active person, when I am actually the complete opposite. I love to cook and eat healthy and I really enjoy being active. I've run several 5ks in the past and love walking, yoga, playing softball and other team sports. But yet, here I am, still at almost 230 pounds. It's not until I see myself in photos or my clothes don't fit right that I realize how big I've become. I've struggled with my weight all my life and have been on WW, South Beach, Body for Life, Atkins, MediFast, etc. Most recently, I've been following the new Weight Watchers plan off and on since it launched in November with minimal success. I feel like I just need some help...a little something extra that will help me stick with it. I hope this is the answer. I checked into LapBand two years ago after a professional associate of mine lost 75lbs in four months and told me she had the LapBand surgery. At the time, my insurance explicitly said it did not cover the procedure and my BMI was not more than 40 (it was over 35). I don't have any complications...yet. However, my good cholesterol levels are low, and, last year, my running plans were put on hold as I nursed a heel spur (which I'm 95% sure was caused by my excess weight). I have family history of heart disease and high blood pressure. My husband also believes I might have sleep apnea. Long story short, I need to get this weight off. Not just for me, but I really want to have kids in the very near future. I want to have healthy pregnancies and be able to keep up with them as they grow. We've tried a bit already and I'm worried my weight is a factor (okay, I KNOW it is a factor). I'm registered to attend a seminar on April 15. I'm really hoping my insurance covers this procedure, as my husband and I don't have the money to pay for it out-of-pocket. Laura
17. Been thinking about this for a long time and I'm just so unhappy with myself. I am hugely active. I have a physically demanding job and I eat ok not great but not awful either. Just used the BMI calculator and OMG still crying its 47. How is that possible I am 5' 4 and weigh about 270 but I am active. I can run around all day not one of those women bitching about their weight and they sit on the couch all day. in my job I walk between 5-7 miles a day. I need to do something. I have done weight watchers and medi fast. It always takes 30-40 off bit then I get stuck and it all seems to come back and then some. My friends and my boy friend love me just the way I am god bless em for it but I'm unhappy I am never gonna be the skinny girl I have seen the family genetics and it's not in the cards for me lol!! I just wanna like myself more that's all. My weight has never hindered me from doing anything but I just want to like myself when I look in the mirror I am looking for a Dr and any type of support in Putnam or westchester county New York. Thanks for the help I have enjoyed reading everyone's advice and support - Christine

All about ME!!

Congratulations!!! I can not wait until I no longer take BP meds! I have lost 35 lbs. and my energy level is way up. Amazing what loosing some weight will do! I am with you on wishing I had done it much sooner!
19. I had my surgery done on Friday, April 22nd at Kaiser West Los Angeles by Dr. Benjamin Kim. So far I have had a wonderful exprience. The nurses and the baratric team was awesome. I got to come home on Saturday and I know I shouldn't have but I went to my son's All-Star basketball game. I'm not in too much pain, only when I move, if I'm still I'm okay. Have been able to keep all liquids and Jello down, no nausea or throwing up..TYJ. Trying to relax is really hard for me, but I'm trying. So far I'm glad I had it done. Down 4lbs.
20. Hello everyone! I have been reading the VST boards for awhile now and decided to sign up and join the fun. My name is Leah and I live in the area of Ann Arbor, Michigan. I am 21 years old and have been overweight/obese it seems like my whole life! My weight started going up probably when puberty around 11 years old. Throughout the years, I have tried many, many different things in an attempt to lose weight. I've tried Weight Watchers twice, a program for teens called M Power through the University of Michigan, Orlistat (yuck!), Phentermine twice, Adkins, and keeping a personal eating diary on my own. Although I have lost the same 30-60 pounds over and over again, I am back up to my highest weight. I have been considering WLS since I was about 17 and have seriously looked into it in the past few months. I went to a seminar at the Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti on April 4th. Before I went to the seminar, I was considering the Lap Band, but quickly changed my mind from the seminar info, reading posts on here, and watching HOURS of videos on YouTube. Unfortunately, I don't have insurance at this time and have to wait until June (when I get my insurance back) to begin my journey. I have a consultation on June 6th and am literally counting down the days. I can't wait!!! A big thanks to everyone on here sharing your stories and helping other people through their journeys! Can't wait to share mine with everyone! -Leah

New here. Hi!

Thanks ladies for the welcome! I feel that I am making the right decision and I pray and continue to pray for guidance. I do not know anyone personally that has been sleeved. So being here is and will help a lot. Ranchersdaughter, I know what you mean about loosing and then gaining. I tried about every diet there is probably. After having my daughter I gained 50lbs and stayed there until recently. That gain put me in the 300's. Time for a change. My little one is a busy one and my knees are starting to hurt to mention other issues.
22. Congrats....this is definately a quick turnaround. Submitted to Insurance on Thursday. Approved on Friday and schedule for Wednesday. Not fair that you only have a 2 day liquid diet and I had to suffer a full week. But you will soon be enjoying the effects of losing weight. We will keep everyone posted.
23. it seems like you haven't re-gained your 40 lbs that you lost. That sounds great! maybe take it back to basics. I have heard of people doing a 5 day pouch test to regain restriction, and then maybe just follow the plan as though u were a newbie. Good Luck!

Substitutes for 6 month diet and counseling

I was told by my nurse coordinator through UHC that Weight Watchers would count with the proper documentation. But, you're going to have to talk to your personal coordinator to find out if that will work for your plan. I'm learning that the plans differ quite a bit across employers. I suspect there are some time requirements too in terms of how old your documentation can be. Do you have a nurse coordinator assigned yet?
25. My SGV was Feb. 15, 2011 and I lost 25 pounds the first month and then have stopped I continue to loose inches but discouraged about my weight loss ... has this happened to others?
