Great post... yep! Gave me a chuckle too... A NSV is a non scale victory... or in this case a 'new state of vertical'!!!!!

Hey Guys, I know I haven't posted in a while... I went back to work 2 weeks ago and I've been exhausted.... so, no, I haven't been neglecting you... LOL... I've been trying to sleep!!! I've been feeling great.. the scale has started moving (Thank God!!)... This is a list of my NSVs to date: I can comfortably wear a 22/24 from a 30/32 My lower back pain has decreased considerably I can walk around for hours w/o breathing trouble or exhaustion At church, I can slide right into the pew without holding in my stomach (YEAH!!) I can sit in my students' desks without getting stuck or struggling.. I just slide right in! I feel like my old, confident self (pre-back/foot injury) I'm willing to share my journey with others freely!!! I love, love, love my Sleevina Have a great day guys!!!

Just got over the three week stall - mine lasted 12 days - the good side of it all is when it is over you wake up one morning and bam - your pants fall off - everyone notices your new "face" and the pounds start to fall off again - not as fast but slowly but surely. I have been trying not to weigh myself as often and sticking to the NSV - they are so much better - gotta go - my pants are falling off me again - must readjust for the tenth time this morning and it is only 7:30a!

The dreaded 3 week stall strikes again!! You are NOT done losing weight!! Don't even let yourself think that! This is a great time to take your measurements and see if you are losing inches. If you didn't take them before surgery, then do it now and watch those inches shrink! I lost my first pants size during a stall. I was frustrated by the darn scale and, while I was getting dressed one morning, my pants fell off my booty! That's when I realized that there are lots of NSVs (non-scale victories) to be found. If your clothes are getting bigger and you are more able to do things, then you are still getting the benefits of the sleeve, even if the scale isn't moving. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. It's definitely true! If you are exercising, even walking and very light weights, then you are building muscle. Even if it's a tiny bit of exercise, it's more than you were doing before surgery and your body responds very quickly to that little bit of exercise. Believe me, I don't work out intensly and I'm seeing HUGE results from my 30 minutes of walking per day and my 3 pound hand weights 3 times a week! At just over 5 months out, I'm seeing definition in my arms and legs, plus my weight is redistributing itself into more feminine lines, instead of the sponge-bob squarepants look I had before! Put the scale away, get out your measuring tape and work on drinking your Water. You will start losing again, and very quickly! Good luck!!

Definitely, definitely, definitely STOP WORRYING If you search past (and even current) posts here you will read about the dreaded week 3 stall....there is even one by me!!!! You have to keep in mind that after losing so much weight so quickly your body needs time to adjust to that weight. I will also tell you that stressing out over it can make it worse. Just keep doing what you're doing and TRY not to focus on the number on the scale....it's just a number!!! Instead, focus on the NSV's (non-scale victories). When I hit the 3 week stall (which lasted 2 weeks BTW), I took my measurements and even though I hadn't lost ANY weight in two weeks, I had lost several inches....proof that the scale can, at times, be my worst enemy!! So, don't beat yourself up....you're doing great!!!!

Great NSV today!! I was talking to a customer and she commented on my "muscular" arms. I was totally not prepared for that comment. I have been seeing the difference, but had no idea that someone else could notice it yet! WOO HOO!!
-
Measure yourself and notice if your clothes are getting looser. Those things count more than that darned scale anyway! I've been "stalled" on the scale since mid-January, except for a 1 pound loss last week. However, I've lost two pants sizes and I can see and feel the muscles in my arms and thighs! I even got a comment from a customer today on how muscular my arms look! (Posting that one in the NSV Shout-outs in a minute!) Don't let the scale run your life and, at just about 3 weeks out, EVERYONE stalls. Keep drinking your Water, adding in your Protein and do NOT let this get you down. You WILL continue to lose, and at an astounding rate! Good luck!

Sounds like you are doing wonderful! Congrats on all the NSVs!!!

I was chatting with a work colleague who I respect for her straight talking. She is one of the few here who know I have had the band. She asked how much weight I have lost and how I am feeling. I was my (new) positive self and told her how great I was feeling, what a fantastic ride I had to work this morning etc. Her next comment stunned me! She told me that in the past, i.e. pre-band days, I would only ever talk about how sick I was or how much my knees ached. While it might sound negative, it was a real reminder of just how far I have come and how much changing my life for the better is also have a positive effect on others. I publicly apologise to all those who I had brought down with my misery guts outlook on life in the past. Life is glorious!

For the first time in 15 yrs. I ran last night. I always used the excuse that I had bad knees. The truth being is that I was carrying sooo much extra weight around that my knees just hurt from the pressure on them. Last night I felt like I could have ran forever and it not hurt (my knees of course, lungs being a totally different thing).lol My lungs are not use to the large amount of air following through them yet but that is changing day by day. Funny thing is my friend Laura asked me to join a 5K with her just yesterday and I told her, "No way! I would kill over!". She being the positive and wonderful person she is, said that if she could do it, I could. So now I'm thinking about joining. I love this wonder decision I have made! Oh, I have one other NSV.... I gave away the first pair of jeans that I actually went and bought after surgery. They were a size 13 that I wore for maybe a month. I gave them to my very good friend with pride!

Fantastic, NSV's are great! You should be proud! Karen

I know the NSV's of the airplane. It is a good feeling to be on a smaller commercial flight and not feel obliged and to discretely tell a stewardess that I will not be offended if they want to set me next to a child or really petite person. Your Mom must have been so proud. Try and remember how she looked when she saw you, and do everything you can to take pictures with her as you continue to loose. Good luck.
