I am going to be sleeved by Dr. Aceves on May 11th. Currently I do Cross-fit 3 times a week. Cross fit is a very high intesity workout that involves the use of weights. How long after surgury can i go back to weight lifting??? I really enjoy it, and I'm still fat...!!!

Thank u both for the response. I will wait a few more weeks since I'm only 4 weeks out today.

Alrighty today was much better on this pre-opt diet. Breakfast: New Whey 42gr protein shot blended w/ice, 2 sugar free banana popsicles (2carbs each)& skim milk (really good). Lunch: Not even a cup of tomato soup. Dinner: 1-1/2 cup of Albondigas (mexican meatball soup) yummy! I did eat about five really small meatballs and veggies (oh well). New Whey 42gr protein shot blended w/ice, 2 sugar free banana popsicles (2 carbs each)& skim milk. I used a little Splenda in that one to make it sweeter. Be Blessed!

Had My Sleeve On 12-27- Kennedy Hospital- Stratford Nj
clientsra posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HAD MY SLEEVE- 12-27- 3 DAYS POST-OP- The surgery was at 1:30pm on tuesday- I remember being wheeled into the operating room- it was cold- the nurse introduced me to the staff...like was I supposed to remember their names...was there a quiz later???? Well, after that I was out like a light remember waking up as they were moving me from recovery to my room. Lots of chest pains- thought I was having a heart attack- they gave me nitro pills under my tongue and dilauden for pain. Really bad the 1st three days- heavy acid and pain, everywhere- couldn't stay in the bed- slept in the chair for 2 nights. got more x-rays- too swollen liquid not going down- xray doctor concerned. my doctor- not. finally this morning I got steroids for the swelling- by 2pm felt like a new person. Why couldn't I have gotten them yesterday? went home at 5pm with dilauden, vicodin, zocor, lavaxor?- daily blood thinner injection. and 2 things for acid reflux. some nurses were great- others were ok- some were downright idiots- I thought there were too many nurses with degrees- how they found these few morons I don't know- i.e. bariatric floor- she gives me a straw and tells me to take big gulps so the pressure of the Water will flow through- are you kidding me???? or one tells me to lie flat on my stomach to push out the gas (incisions and all!). and fyi I didn't ask for anything...stayed very low key. So far- best day I have had. Very supportive family- came home to crystal light, broth and diet Jello all lined up for me and all of my medicines in a daily pill box. After going through this I don't know if I would recommend it yet- will keep u updated/ -
Give Me An Idea What Life Is Like At 1 Month Post Op --
traceyinflorida replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We went on a college tour with my son when I was three weeks post op. It involved driving every day, packing and unpacking in a new hotel every day, and walking all over campuses and eating out for two weeks. In addition, we spent most of the summer going to baseball tournaments or football camps (he is an athlete who would like to play at the college level) so there were a lot of hotel stays. Was it easy? NO Was it doable? Yes, definitely. I think Christmas and all the food and drink that you are used to enjoying are going to be difficult psychologically no matter where you are. Why not at least enjoy it with family in NYC? Some prior planning will be required. I carried my smoothie maker (which also pureed food) with me as well as my protein powder and made myself a shake every morning. You can keep snacks like string cheese, yogurt etc in your room in a cooler (or see if you can get a fridge in your room). If you eat out, order chili, soup or fish with some type of sauce that you can mash up and eat. They carry a protein shaker at Vitamin World that has a compartment for your protein powder in the bottom. Keep it with you in your purse. You can stop at any vendor or coffee shop and pick up milk or bottled water to make a protein shake on the fly. If you have a supportive family, you can also solicit their help in having a few things on hand that you can eat. -

What can you eat and not eat long term after bypass?
SusyW posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled for a revision to bypass Dec. 16. I had a lap band for about 4 1/2 years and lost all the weight I wanted to--maybe even more than I wanted. But those 4 1/2 years were not much fun as I was vomiting a lot and was quite malnourished at times, I believe. In fact I ended up having emergency lung surgery for a massive lung infection, probably due to aspirating something when I vomited and my body having no strength to fight it. The lap band was removed 13 months ago due to an out-pouching in the esophagus and I have regained all of the weight I lost after surgery and a little more. My only alternative now is bypass. I can't say I'm 100% committed to having this surgery and feel I need a lot more information before making that decision. I actually live in Mexico but will have the surgery in Portland, OR, for insurance purposes. That is also where I had my lap band inserted and removed. But because of the distance I cannot be there for support group or appointments with the surgeon and others to ask more questions. So I hope I can get lots of answers and support on this group. I've already bought my plane ticket to fly to Portland about a week before surgery but I would gladly lose that money or just go visit friends and family rather than make a mistake in going ahead with this surgery. So, here goes my first question: I have heard from the dietician about the liquid diet and then the "mushy" diet following the surgery, but what I don't have a grip on is what will I be able to eat long term. I'd like to hear what you eat, especially things you enjoy. I also want to know what you can't eat, especially things you have tried that resulted in problems for you. I appreciate any input you can give me on these questions. I know I'll have many more in the next several months. -
I am finding that for me the stomach gas with lots of belching and even left shoulder pain seems to happen most often when my stomach is empty for too long. at least that is my new theory that I am testing and so far I am correct  I had problems about 2-3 weeks post op and then was fine until just a couple weeks ago, now I have been getting lots of gas. The thing those two time peroids have in common is a mostly liquid diet. I am currently doing a meal replacement program with my doctor to "jump start" my weightloss and have 2 shakes and dinner. I am finding that if I eat a small snack between shakes I do not have the problem with the gas.

hi everyone, im feeling blue today
Teri Barowsky Hooper replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel. I'm about 9 weeks out and it is moving very slow. I see the amount of weight others lost and I'd be lying if I said it doesn't bother me. I give myself pep talks but sometimes it's just frustrating. Eating about 800 calories a day and not losing much . . . doesn't seem right! -
This is my second round of hiccups. They are loud and annoying and a bot painful. At 6pm I drank Water (maybe too big of sips) and I hiccuped for 45 mins. 5 hours later a Protein shake and big annoying, hurtful on going loud hiccups that I feel from my belly all the way up. I did not drink too fast this time and not too much- same premade Protein Shake I've been having all along. It's not a burp, or 1-3 hiccups. I'm talking 45 mins. I can't take it! I did not eat too much today. I am 10 days post op, on a liquid diet. These huccups just started tonight after I drink. If it happens after my morning drink I might need to call the doctor. DOes anyone know what this could be?

Hi Kelly, I see that you go to Dr. Glasgow. I was just banded on August 17th by Arthur. Love them! While I haven't had your problem, I'm kinda freaking out about the weight loss. I lost 25 lbs between the preop diet and the immediate post op. The scale hasn't budged in 2 weeks! I'm doing the same think you are- working out a fair amount. I'm assuming my body is just adjusting.... Your 66 lb weight loss is awesome! At least they diagnosed the band problem right away! It's nice they have all the equipment right there. hopefully you'll have more luck with going slowly. I won't get my first fill for 2 1/2 weeks. Do you go to any of the support groups? Lisa

My nutritionist told me three meals per say. I'm four weeks out and eat less than one thousand calories per day. Good luck. BigAli -
How ...? Just How?
Wheetsin replied to euphoria.azul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At only 6 days out you're probably not going to be able to comply completely with your post-op diet. It takes a while. I'm in my 7th week out and have only met all the guidelines in my schedule once or twice. Capacity-wise I just still can't do it yet. WHen you say you're eating until 6pm, do you mean that you're eating ALL DAY (grazing?), or that you're not eating UNTIL 6, or that you're supposed to stop eating sooner, or what? Irritable is normal. Lots of wacky hormonal things going in with your body right now, and for a few more weeks at least - but they should start tapering off in the next week or two. -
I'm two weeks post-op and haven't had this particular experience, but lucked into something while trying to maximize my Protein. This is very dessert-like, and even my husband thinks it tastes really good, so it's something you may want to try. Use two scoops of the best-tasting Protein shake powder you can find, add 1/4 C each non-fat evaporated skim milk and Greek-style yogurt, and just enough skim milk to make a slightly thin pudding consistency. Add a drop or two of a complementary flavoring (I like cherry or mint flavoring with chocolate protein mix, but you could use marshmallow, berry, toffee, or any flavoring you like with vanilla mix) and blend until thoroughly mixed. It tastes a lot like cheesecake, and with many protein mixes having around 20gm of protein per scoop, you end up with a tasty treat that has a total of ~48gm protein that can be split into two Snacks. This can help with the desire for something creamy, and crunchy things will come in a few weeks, they say!

It definitely gets better...and easier. I had horrible head hunger after coming home from the hospital...it seemed like every commercial on TV was food related. I remember seeing a commercial for Laughing Cow cheese and just thinking that if only I could eat a cracker with cheese on it I would be so happy!! LOL! I had dream after dream after dream about food....most revolved around sneaking Big Macs!! Now I'm almost 8 weeks out, eating almost anything I want (which BTW is not the junk I used to eat) and life is soooo good!!! I don't feel deprived and I feel "normal"....my relationship with food has changed...which I NEVER thought would happen!! Just hang in there....you'll get there too!!!

I am about a month out. And for the past couple weeks I haven't been losing much (if anything) which completely went to a stop and now I have gained a couple pounds. I am working out and tracking everything, but I wanted to know if anybody had any advice to give on how I could lose weight quicker (or actually at this point lose weight at all!) thanks so much

Having Tough Time At 3Wks Post Sleeve
suejersey replied to Jaytee64's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same with the nausea, I just started my fourth week post-op. I find if I have my shake right away, even though I really feel like I don't want it, that it helps a lot. Someone else suggested having a shake before bed so that your stomach isn't so empty in the morning. -
Hic ups, coughing, sneezing
newat52 replied to jlmckee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suppose it's possible but not likely. It makes me hurt just reading your post. Thank goodness I went about 2 weeks without sneezing and I remember how much it hurt then. 4 days out, can't even imagine! I managed to go almost a week without coughing so I was lucky. I'm sure you are ok but if you still feel a localized pain after a while, you may want to give your surgeon a call and ask. Good luck to you. I know things suck right now, especially the first week post op but it will get better and better as time goes and you will LOVE your sleeve and your life post sleeve! -
This is reasuring thank you. I just got home from hospital with 2 weeks liquid to do i will be so happy i know i guess everyone has these doubts at the start. Well done everyone for your weightloss thats amazing

My answer: heeell yes!!! I am 3 months out, down 64 lbs... Wearing a size medium/7 jeans! I am loving it and pizza and beer are not worth it! I have tried both post op and am fine, depending on the amount and I only have the topping of the pizza.... I have had a beer and it was fine... You do have to watch for the caloric intake, but once in a while... As long as you don't form a habit... If is worth every single moment!! I wake up thanking god for this amazing opportunity to feel like MYSELF!

I'm super jealous of your pre-surgery weight loss....I'm next week and lucky if I get another 2 pounds off...lol... Congratulations!!! Keep it up. Never give up, never surrender....
