    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Ok, so today I'm back down to pre-Fatsgiving weight of 132.2lbs. Am trying still to break the mythical envelope (130lbs). But clearly not trying TOO hard. However, 3 days of pretty good eating got me back in the saddle and weight came off. It's always scary to imagine the day when that happens, but the weight doesn't magically fall off any longer. I quake to consider that! Sunday, December 1, 2019 Maintenance, F, 5'4", 57yo, 21 m PO RNY, 132.2lbs B1 - 1 protein latte (1oz PP) + egg white puff with spinach and ham + radish mushroom hash L - Vegetable beef soup with spinach D - Cod Loin & shrimp piccata (unbreaded) with LO Greek Salad, steamed broccoli BS - 1 cheesecake bar + whipped cream + walnuts + sf Hershey's chocolate + sf Smucker's Caramel Syrup Daily Totals: 941 cals; 67g protein; 56g fat; 36g carbs; 4g fiber; 32g net carbs

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday, Sunday, Dec. 1 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 116.3 lbs **** Xmas party season has officially begun. Had an indulgent Saturday (client holiday party) and an even more indulgent Sunday (family bday lunch then had a Friends-mas at BFF's place as she and her fam are leaving for vacay next week. Spoiler alert: I was taken down by desserts and alcohol this weekend. And I am being punished for it by feeling like absolute CRAP this morning: sluggish, tired, cranky, crampy, bloated, and unbelievably thirsty. It's only 11:30am and I've drank over 2 litres of water already (plus 1 coffeee & cup of broth). Oh, and the scale says I've gained 2.9 lbs since Friday. I'd love to say its all poop, but I had a total-intestine-clearing number 2 yesterday as a result of too many Italian almond cookies, so that's definitely not it. Anyhoo...I'm enacting a weekday dessert embargo for the remainder of the month to balance out the inevitable dessert eating on weekends. **** 8:30am - coffee w/ stevia + tea w/ stevia 1:30pm - 1/2 side caesar salad sans croutons + 1/2 side goat cheese and beet salad + 1 slice Lemon Curd Cake + 2 glasses red wine 3:00pm - 1 slice Lemon Curd Cake + 1 cup greek yogurt + 10 blueberries + 5 green grapes + 1.5 oz almonds 6:00pm to 2:00am - 6 oysters on half shell 5 oz prime rib w/ gravy 1 cup spring mix salad w/ strawberries, goat cheese & candied walnuts 16 mini Italian almond cookies 3 mini biscotti 10 dark chocolate covered coffee beans 1 oz candied ginger 2 HUGE pistachio cannolis 4 glasses red wine Totals: 3574 cals - 123g Protein - 301g NET carbs - 186g fat

  8. Hi, I had a rough 1.5 years with constant vomiting, the need for water to push down my food, and not not knowi g what to do, as good biatric surgeon wasnt available. I was banded 10 years ago in mexico, all went well lost a 100 lbs plus and maintained it, now i am around 220 lbs 6.1 feet in height. I may having scaring in my band area as i still feel restriction even though band is fully deflated. I also have mild gerd or reflux and constant feeling food or water is stuck. Wanted to get sleeve done but doctor recomended mini bypass.. I wanted to know the pain, the expectations, is the food stuck like in the band? How soon before one recovers from the surgery? I am not obese right now as in i am.a bit over weight, how soon can i resume my normal desk job? I am pretry sick of stuck food in my band, barium.test shows slight narrowing at the site of the band. Thanks a million

    Weight Calculators

the average weight loss is about 70% of your excess weight, so the calculators may be based on that. But like any other average, there are people who lose more and people who lose less. If you really work hard at this, there's no reason you can't get down to your goal. The dietitian at my surgeon's office warned me that my goal (150) was unrealistic because only about 10% of their patients lose 100% of their excess weight, yet, I did it. I worked my butt off, but I did it (and by the way - that 10% statistic is about what I've seen in peer-reviewed studies, too. But if you think about it, that's about right - it's a couple standard deviations away from the norm, so one would expect that)
  11. Any of these procedures may predispose you to some kind of problem as a result of the anatomical changes that the surgery makes; this doesn't mean that you will have such a problem, just that the problem shows up in more often than in the general population. With the sleeve, the main predisposition is for GERD, as a result of cutting back the stomach volume more than its' acid producing potential - usually the body adapts and adjust things over time, but sometimes it doesn't. I have mild GERD which is well controlled with mild OTC medication; a few get it so severe that no med controls it and they have to get their sleeve revised to correct it, while others - most people - have no problem with it at all. GERD problems may also result from poor surgical technique, and was more common when the sleeve was new to the WLS world 8-10 years ago and most surgeons were still figuring it out (this is why I traveled to a practice that had already been doing them for some twenty years, so avoid this kind of "learning curve" problem. Most surgeons in the US today are experienced enough with it that this isn't much of a problem anymore, but it does seem to show up more in countries that are farther down that learning curve, such as Canada and Australia. People with the bypass will also sometimes develop GERD, though usually more in line with general population numbers, and seems to often be associated with chronic over eating, volumetrically if not calorically.. This may also be why some with the sleeve also develop GERD after some years. The bypass is predisposed to dumping and its close cousin, reactive hypoglycemia, as a result of rapid stomach emptying from the lack of the pyloric valve in the active GI system metering the stomach contents into the intestines. Some people with the sleeve, or even no stomach surgery at all, may dump as well, but it is rare. It is generally controlled with additional dietary restrictions. The bypass is also predisposed to marginal ulcers, typically around the anastomosis between the stomach pouch and intestine. This is a result of the section of intestine being used not being resistant to stomach acid like the duodenum is (the part of intestine immediately downstream of the stomach in the natural anatomy, which is bypassed along with the remnant stomach in the RNY), leaving a very sensitive suture line that is easily irritated. This is why NSAID pain relievers and other similar medications are a big NO-NO with the RNY, but are better tolerated with the sleeve based procedures; one still needs to be cautious with them, but they are more usable with a sleeve than a bypass. For the benefit of the OP, with no prior GERD history, but a history of orthopedic problems, I would be inclined to go with the sleeve, owing to its better tolerance for the various pain relievers that you are inclined to need at different times. Good luck - none of this is easy, as it is often a matter of trade offs, and sometimes it's less a matter of good vs. bad as it is bad vs. less bad, or bad vs. not-great.

    Can't handle protein shakes

I am going through the same. Was fine with shakes with my sleeve but can’t handle them after my revision to bypass. I use fairlife milk (13 gma protein) unjury chicken broth (21 gma protein) and bone broth (10 grams protein) to get my protein in. Hang in there and good luck.
  16. Lap band was removed a couple of months ago, because of slippage after 10 years. Lost 180 lbs, and I must say I looked great, so proud of myself. First they loosened the band until the surgery for removal could take place. I started gaining weight right away. I have gained 40 lbs in 4 short months, and I am starting to panic. I joined a weight loss center, and nothing seems to be working for me. Low carb, counting calories, but the weight just seems to coming back on so quickly. Is it true that since I was so obese before the surgery that now I have all those fat cells that seem to soak up the fat so easily now. It doesn't make any sense, I have been really trying, don't want to go back to my old self, I was so depressed and had no stamina, now I am active and feel good about the way I look, but its quickly going away, and i'm scared. Any tips would really be helpful. thanks
  17. Hello.. I'm 8days post Op, let me tell you what I drink in a day: Breakfast: half of a table spoon of honey+tea (in room temperature) / milk / shakes (but it should be kinda watery when you drink it) Morning snack: half of a glass of any kind of juice(the rest is filled with water) (also it shouldn't have any pulp until you hit week 2) Lunch: chicken/beef/fish/anything!(lol) soup you can put anything in it like carrots/rice etc etc, but you are gonna only drink "the water" , sometimes I even add more water to it..my tummy hurts less that way..(after week two you can forget about adding extra water) Afternoon snack: another glass of juice Evening snack: honey+ tea Dinner : same as lunch Don't forget to drink water in between [emoji173][emoji847] And chewing gums are not allowed!.. so are drinking straws! Also pour everything in glasses and try to take a "sip" for like every 5 mins.. finishing the glass should take you +20 mins.. (in first few days finishing them took me 1hr or so but it's better for your tummy that way) At the end of the day, you should have drunk 8-10 glasses in total. Ps: why are you avoiding sugar? Avoiding it can cuz ketosis and bad breath.. you are allowed to have sugar in small amounts.. also drop the candy stuff.. even sugar free ones aren't good for you now.. Dec 10 in Vegas! Lol
  20. congrats - thats a major NSV and a great goal! I went 1 time about 10 years ago and it is terrifying and exhilarating. Hope you love it!
  21. Not sure about the sugar free hard candy. I will tell you that I have had a few sf butterscotch candy since surgery. I would think that as long as you are careful not to swallow them whole it would be the same as sf liquid. bone broth is also available at most grocery stores and will give you about 10 grams protein per serving. Warm liquids are easier for me to handle.

    OOTD

Good idea because I actually went to White House Black market recently and bought a couple of things. The whole store was 30% off that day so I got this cute athleisure kind of top. It’s a tank top with a cropped turtleneck like thing that goes over it. It is absolutely gorgeous. Anyway, my plan was to take good care of it but somehow it ended up In our regular laundry. It got washed one time. One time! It looks like I’ve had it for 10 years. This damn top was like almost $80 regular price. I was trying to treat myself for losing weight. I’m more of a target, Walmart shopper. Was not happy with the way it came out of the laundry. It is still cute and I did get a beautiful white turtleneck that I wear regularly. I have been washing that on gentle and it is holding up much better. Is clothes Mentor online?

What percent of your stomach do they take out?

Bypass they technically do not remove your stomach except create a pouch like 1oz-2oz size by stapling sutures to create that separation. I think it works out to be roughly 1/10th of the size but don't quote me on that... The sleeve VSG is the one where they remove 80+% of stomach leaving 20% vs 10% in the BYPASS. But then again different surgeons use different techniques so it's best to discuss with your specific surgeon. Hope that makes sense. Also the BYPASS is more about the bypass of the intestines than just the size of the stomach there's plenty of research material out there.
  24. Hi Libby63, I just had my surgery 11/4. Yesterday on Thanksgiving....I stayed home---just as self care, mentally and physically. I'm not to soft foods yet, and yes, it was tough--but as the others mentioned above, its just this year. I'll be able to enjoy foods again in the future. My goal is to restore my health and enjoy my 3 little granddaughters for the next hopefully 20+ years. My weight problem started when I was late 30's, working night shift as RN and then developed depression. Medications added 30 lbs immediately, and working off shifts escalated weight gain. Through the years, shifts in medications, divorce etc etc and I can't believe it happened to me--the weight gain. I did a lot of research on bariatric/metabolic surgery and the positive changes it will bring. I made the decision in June 2019 and went ahead with strong mind. No regrets. You're right, it's not easy. Being 250 lbs and 5/4" wasn't easy and I didn't want to live that way any longer. I felt myself retreating and isolating from social gathers. Working all week, and isolating on the weekends. My mother died at age 48 of ovarian ca. I don't want my health to deteriorate any more to not be able to travel to my daughters home and play a major role in her life and her family. Obesity is a pile on disease...the co-morbidities pile on and underlying it all is the disease of obesity. I wish you the very best in your decision. You can do it, and the health changes it will bring will be worth it. God Bless! Gloria

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Today, Fri, Nov. 29 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 113.4 lbs **** So I was HUNGRY today, actually probably more like "SNACKY"...I was constantly in the kitchen staring into the fridge or pantry looking for something to eat. There was a cheesecake in the fridge calling to me all morning, and I answered the call by cutting myself a slice after my meal. Turns out it wasn't yummy enough for the privilege to claim space in my stomach, so after my one bite, I gave the rest to Mr. P.S. dried mangoes have alot of carbs! I realized this AFTER I ate it when i logged into MFP. Note to self: check macros before going to town on stuff... **** 9:30am - coffee w/ stevia + tea w/ stevia 12:30pm - 1 cup dashi broth + 1/2 package shiratake noodles + pea shoots + green onions + 2.5 oz sirloin steak + 1/2 almonds + 1/2 oz candied ginger + 1 tbsp lemon cheesecake 3:00pm - Napa cabbage + carrots + blueberries + pumpkin seeds + 1/2 avocado + vinaigrette + 1 Love Good Fats coconut macadamia nut bar 5:00pm - 1/2 avocado + 1/2 cup almond milk + blueberries + grapes + 4 oz dried mangoes 8:30pm - 6.5 oz Cevapi + 1 tbsp black beans + 1/3 oz chicharron 10:00pm - 1/2 cup dashi broth w/ 1/2 oz oyster mushrooms + 1/3 cup raspberry lime sorbetto + 1/2 oz pumpkin seeds Totals: 1615 cals - 58g Protein - 173g NET carbs - 66g fat
