  1. Thanks Everyone! I am extremely backed up. I haven't gone in over a week and I took the stool softener (colace) last week. Im popping gas x but it's not really working. I just sat on the toilet and I felt something trying to come out but it won't. Ugh!! I can't sit on the toilet all day. So I think I may have no choice but to try the fiber option someone suggested. I hope it gets better. I didn't know you shouldn't go more than two days without a BM! I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again!

    hi new here !

I am a band to sleeve revision. I was happy with my band for a long time and lost a good amount of weight. Then it malfunctioned after my pregnancy and never worked again. I can tell you that in my experience so far (6 years banded and now 11 weeks post sleeve) that it is much easier to eat around the band than the sleeve, and my weight loss is faster (so far at least) even though I have always been a "slow loser". I think personally that the sleeve is a better surgery. The band is safer if you are worried about major complications like leaks. But long term people seem to have more problems with the band and the most recent research I have heard indicates that more than 50% have the band removed by 5 years post op, mostly either due to slip, erosion, or inadequate weight loss. Of course, these are my opinions based on my experience and what I have heard from other band folks. The band is an attractive idea but doesn't seem to work as well in practice. Good luck to you.
  3. Before my surgery 8 weeks ago, I was looking forward to a lot of small things like being able to bend over to pick up toys, paint my toenails, and even something as simple as crossing my legs while sitting. I am happy that I can now do those things! What small things did you look forward to/accomplish? Amanda

    Alcohol

alcohol has affected my weight loss, I'm definitely limiting myself to 1 day at week. after the surgery I was feeling depressed and found myself drinking 3 - 4 times per week, n 9 months Ive only lost 60lbs. which makes me sad to know, i let my emotions take over.

    Scar gel?

That was my plan, once everything is healed start on something to make them less obvious. When my mil had a breast reduction she was told to keep it taped for a several weeks after it was healed to minimize the stretch of the scar.

    Could use support

I am so sorry to hear all that. I know how hard last week was having the after of surgery so I can only imagine what you are going through with all the additional stuff. Hang in there. You will get through it. And it will all have been worth it.

    What's Going On?

Thanks for the replies and encouragement guys! I REALLY mean that! I went back to old habits this week. It was the first week back from summer break and my administrators and PTA provided so much Breakfast and lunch for us. I was in a bad place (about not seeing the scale move) and decided that since I wasn't losing, I should not refrain from eating what I wanted. After reading the comments and replies, I realized that thinking like that was a huge mistake. I'm not going to beat myself up about it, but charge forward! I'm back on track and trying to implement some of the adjustments and advice from you all. Thanks again. If you are stalled, please don't give up. We can do this! If anyone has any more advice, please post.
  8. Newbie here I have lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks since my sleeve. Does that sound like a normal amount? 2 Protein Shakes a day, 2 greek yogurts = 84 grams of Protein. 40-60 oz of Water. Walk 1.5 miles on the treadmill. Does this sound like I am on the right track. I start purred foods in 7 days. Can't wait!

    DIABETES

before surgery, i was on 3 Metformin a day, 84 units of Lantus at night and Novolog insulin for coverage during the day. Since surgery (3 weeks ago), i am only on Lantus 20 units at bedtime. I hope i will eventually be off of it too!

    First time posting!

Hi! This is my very first post and the beginning of a new chapter. I have jumped through most of the insurance hoops and am almost ready to make the appointment with the surgeon. My psych eval is October 14th, after that, all of the paperwork gets turned in to insurance for approval. I did have to do the three month medically supervised diet. I am so nervous/excited/anxious for this part of the journey to be over. I have no idea what the next steps are, but I believe that it is possible to have a surgery date by the end of November. Am I being too optimistic? You have all been so inspiring and helpful to this newbie. I know this is the right thing for me and no matter what the naysayers tell me, I would never be successful without this opportunity. Thanks for listening!!!

    Something is wrong...

with the issues you were having, your stomach pouch is probably very swollen... you need to be on liquids and mushies for at LEAST a week to allow the inflammation to go down... good luck and i'm glad the slight unfill helped.

    Surgery tomorrow!

Well good luck to the both of you! I'm one week post op as well. Friday was an awkward day, but the weekend rest helped me out a lot.
  13. Looking for some help. Got a fill approximately 2 weeks ago on 1-17. Last friday i began to get some back pain that radiated to my left ribs, above my port. I do not have my gallbladder. I know there is a possibility of it being cramps or gas because it does come and go but i am also worried something could be wrong with my band. I have been able to eat normal size lap band servings. Could my port be moving due to weight loss? Any other ideas? Thanks ahead of time!

    Slightly off the rails

I had a plan simile to Kindle. I decided to indulge. I prepared and dropped a few extra pounds first, gained that and another two and my always normal weight friend said "welcome to a normal holiday season." Now I am back on plan (and subbing a few meals with Protein shakes) and confident I will be back to "fighting weight" in a couple of weeks! It's part of life!

  16. Hello! Just wanting to see about starting a forum on tips of getting through the pre-op diet. I am on Day 3 of the Liquids and so far so good...I have had one instance so far that I really didn't think I could do it...I keep looking at the final picture. What is or has helped you get through the 2 week liquid diet or whatever diet that was preferred by doctor?
  17. Thank you for your response. I know that as far as exercise I’m getting enough of that in. I go to the gym at least 4-5 times a week. My workouts vary from cardio for about 45 minutes to strength training in a structured class to a high intensity spin class. From what you’ve posted I think my problem is my water intake. I’m having a bit of a problem getting enough water. My surgeon told me that I had to wait 90 minutes after eating to drink and 30 minutes after drinking to eat. So I know that my water intake is not even close to what I need. As you mentioned, I need to cut my food intake in half which would help me get in more water since I wouldn’t be waiting the 90 minutes to drink. My calories are usually around the 800 -1000 and may go a bit higher when I eat out. Carbs I need to work on. You are absolutely right in that. I try to keep them low but I’m afraid after I hit my six month post op I did slack on tracking my food so I believe they may be the culprit along with not enough water. Can I ask you to please give me an example of your daily meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Can you also tell me your starting weight and current weight and surgery date because you mentioned that you too were low BMI I’m interested in just how badly I’ve done with my surgery in comparison to others of similar BMI. Thanks again.

    Stall Progress

Mari, congratulations on all your progress!!!! I'm also trying to get to 125lbs. I always share on this board that I've been one of those people that have stalled and dropped, stalled and dropped.... even thought I keep consistent with food/exercise/fluid. I think some of us are like that. For me the main thing is that I am losing the weight!!! It's soooo HARD when I am stalled though! But I just tell myself it will pass and I focus on what I need to do. Don't let it discourage you. It looks like you are doing GREAT! Keep up the good work kiddo! Oh, BTW, like you, there are some foods that I just have an aversion to. So I just don't eat them. I eat the ones that feel right. So it could be that the eggs and bacon are just not for you right now. It may change as time goes by.
  19. I got optifast from my doctor but I really like eas carb advantage because they are so much cheaper and taste fine (from walmart). I lost 15 lbs on just those and jello the 2 weeks before my surgery. I'm 1 1/2 weeks post op and could not take one more sweet protein drink so I got Any Whey at GNC I've been putting it in broth and it's been great to have soup instead of a sweet shake. Never thought I'd be sick to death of chocolate and vanilla. hope that helps.

    Yes!

I went to the store today to see if I could find some new pants because my pre-surgery work pants are too big. I tried on one size smaller and they were too big! I am down 2 sizes!!! I couldn't believe it. I was sleeved 1/23/13. Lost 13 lbs in the first 2 weeks then stalled for about a week and a half. I weighed this morning and was down 4 lbs total from last week. That's 17 lbs since surgery and 27 total. This week has been hard-my head hunger is yelling at me to eat a lot of crap but the shopping trip really helped me to refocus because this is working!

    Soda Pop

Im 15 weeks post op and had my first sip of soft drink/soda the other day. I didn't die. I could feel the bubbles in my stomach so it was a weird sensation but not uncomfortable or anything like that. Think I had 3 sips over a couple of hours and that was enough as its too sweet now after not drinking it for 4 months. Each to their own, I say. Everyone is different!

    Help, I'm so lost!

Dang - I want your surgeon. Although I'm only on three day pre-op liquid diet, but it's about four weeks before any type of regular food comes back in after the surgery! Ugh!

    Resturaunts

I have only been sleeved for almost six weeks, but I also travel on business a bit. I'm on solid foods now. I had a business trip last week. I just ordered really healthy, high protein food at meals. One meal, I ordered the steamed clams and ate a few. No one noticed I didn't eat a lot. Another meal, I ordered meatloaf, skipped the mashed potatoes and asked for more veggies. Same thing, ate about a half cup or so of the meatloaf and a couple of bites of spinach and done. No one said anything. Another meal, I ordered fish. Fish goes down well with me. Soup is a good thing to order too If someone would have said something, I probably just would of said that I' m watching what I eat. It's none of their business about my surgery if I don't want to tell them. This weekend my husband and I went out for lunch. I ordered a chicken and cheese quesidilla. I ate the insides of two pieces and left the tortilla and then took two pieces home which my son then ate. I thought eating out would be difficult but it's not. The hardest thing is not drinking during meals, especially when you are waiting for your food.
