I had one but it wasn't for my WLS. I really don't know what to say. The recommendations are to get your fiirst one I think your 50's. The worst part about them is the prep. TRhey put you to sleep and I didn't feel anything at all. I guess it depends on your Dr too.

My doc told me you are 50, you will be sedated, you will have only 1 co-pay - so let's put you on a spit and look in both ends.

    Fibromyalgia patients

Are there any other bariatric patients that also have fibromyalgia? My surgery was May 1, 2017 and I am struggling with the pain. When I had the revision surgery from band to sleeve I knew there was a good chance I would take a little longer to recover. I was in the hospital three days. Since the surgery I have lost 15 pounds. I realize each individual's journey is different as are our medical conditions. I have ended up in a infusion center 4 times had to go back into the hospital May 17 for another three days because we could not control the pain and dehydration. And then to top it off The day before Labor Day we were in a car accident. I have been going to physical therapy to hopefully help with the pain since the surgery but I am unable to add much exercise. In fact my physical therapist discourages me from doing some of the exercises I enjoy. On Pleasant days I do try to get in the pool for at least 25 to 30 minutes and swim or even just tread water. It doesn't seem to cause the pain I get from a simple walk to the mailbox. However, my weight loss hasn't moved since May 17. My doctor has not yet given me my macros however I've been tracking them and noticed I tend to eat around 500 cal my carbs seem to stay under 10 and my protein ranges from 65-80. I also have hypothyroid, hypertension, depression, obstructive sleep apnea and Aniexty. I will see my doctor next week and inquire is it the lack of exercise at this time, medications etc. or am I just expecting more weight loss then is reasonable. I will admit like many I fight the water bottle it is very hard to get the amount in that I should be taking. It is not that I don't like the taste it's just that I never was a drinker, So it is a serious effort to remember to stop and have a drink. I hate Powerade zero but I did pick up some drops that are supposed to make your drink more like a sports drink and offer more hydration. I can't tell that it's really doing anything. I would love to hear other fibromyalgia stories, tips you have learned along the way, anything you could share to help me along this weight-loss journey would be so greatly appreciated.

Why did you pick this surgery?

Ive known several people who revised from lap band to sleeve. One is very happy with results and the other wishes she would have gone with RNY. I really think either is a great option , but it really depends on you and your doctors suggestions.

Why did you pick this surgery?

Since I had already failed with a restrictive only procedure, I chose to go with rny for my revision. Also I had developed sever GERD and the sleeve is known to make it worse. One other thing: someone above wrote that rny is not reversible. It actually is. Im not sure how often it is done, but it is done. The sleeve, however, is not reverible due to part of the stomach being removed. The sleeve can be revised into a rny bypass.

Why did you pick this surgery?

I got "the call" this morning that my Lapband revision to RNY is scheduled for July 5th. My surgeon strongly suggested the RNY over the Sleeve because the Sleeve would make it worse. Also, at my age, he said the risk is less with the RNY. I have had sever complications with this band. I've had it since Jan., 2011. I can't take it anymore and want it out! The surgeon said that 95% of patients with Lapband a taken out gain all of their weight back. I suffered getting off what I did with this thing and don't want to gain it back, thus, the RNY. My starting weight with Lapband was 203, now 170.

Slow loser due to my age?

I'm 1 year out and have lost 97 lbs since surgery and 127 lbs total. Highest weight was 320 and I'm now at 197. My doc says only 20-25 more lbs will be enough for me. I had the revision to RouxNY

    Lapband to VSG

I have the band, am looking into revision to DS. I have one more appt before they submit to insurance. I started at 239 down to 185 and back up to 242 in the past 6 years. My surgeon and I decided to go the DS route since revisions have a slower rate of loss and DS has better statistics in the regain category. My band was great the first year til my gallbladder decided it wanted out. After that it was a straight uphill climb. I can't wait to get this thing out!
  10. Sorry long post.. lol I started my journey in Jan 2017. I went in for another unfill for my lapband that I've had for 8 years! They asked me if I had considered a revision. I have- but ins didn't cover Bariatric surgeries previously. So- I never checked into it again. They checked for me, and it was covered!!!! Of course, I would have to go through all steps.. so I started my 3 month monitored diet & exercise. Plus psych eval. Then my stuff was submitted in late April. I was busy with work- so I didn't have time to realize how much time has went by. Then realized it's been almost a month. I almost was starting to get frustrated I called ins & they said they haven't even received it. So- today I get a call from the Bariatric center. I got approved!! Mixed emotions big time!! Liquid prep diet starts June 8, PreOp starts June 12, Surgery June 22. Um- it's felt like it was taking forever & now it's happening so fast!

    intro

Why don't you start attending those support groups before you have your surgery? Get yourself around like minded people that can help you stay on track, when those times comes that you wanna get off track? I would say start hitting up those groups, meetings sooner rather than later. Good luck to you on your upcoming revision, and remember that change isn't immediate. Change is an ongoing battle won, one day at a time.
  12. My advice is to be patient with yourself. Everyone is different. I had my revision on 1/13/17 and it took several months to keep the scale moving. I even had a week when I gained a pound During the liquid stage, just focus on healing and taking care of yourself. As you can see from my stats, I'm losing but not as fast as others. If you compare your journey to others, you will always feel like a failure. I did the same thing at first, then I stopped. I now take pictures often and compare where I've come from. Stalls are common, even early in the journey. I had 2 stalls in the first 2 months. Again, this is just my experience, so good luck on your journey

Why did you pick this surgery?

I'm in the process of band to RNY revision. I choose RNY for a couple reasons. Higher percent of weight loss, malabsorption of some calories, less chance of gerd, higher chance of remission of diabetes and hypertension. Michelle Pre-op revision band to bypass Starting weight 275 Healthy BMI 154.

    Second Opinion from another Doctor

It really depends on what the causes of reflux are. For the vast majority it's diet related so that's why the surgery helps reflux for the majority who change up their diet. But then there are others who have reflux for other reasons where it gets less predictable. Generally people know if the cause is diet. One of the big reasons I took the advice of my second opinions is that they concurred that if any low odds complications arose I could always revise to bypass.

    band to sleeve insurance?

We can't guide you on your insurance coverage as everyone's is different. Have you called your insurance company to find out if they will cover revision surgery?
  17. I had a band done in mexico back in 2005. My band was causing me pain last year and I got all of the fill taken out and have gained 30 lbs. I am looking into the sleeve revision. I talked to a coordinator at a bariatric hospital who called my insurance and called me back and said I have wonderful coverage and it will cost me at most $100 out of pocket but there is a 6 month supervised diet I would have to follow and my BMI of 36 prob wouldnt be covered because my only comorbidity is fatty liver which is secondary. I asked about my lap band causing my issues and she said I could get it taken out outpatient. Anyway I was a little disappointed but was thinking has anyone had band complications and got the sleeve covered with out doing the supervised diet? I am just wondering if she had correct information because she didnt know I had the band when she called my insurance. I am looking into going to Mexico again but would rather have it done local if covered. Thank you for any replies!
  18. Hi, I'm new here and seriously considering a band to bypass revision or a band to sleeve revision. I would like to know why you all chose the bypass. I'm on the fence between sleeve and bypass and just would like some first hand experiences and reasons why you chose this method in hopes that it may help me decide on which would be best for me. Thank in advance!

    Weight lost

I had a change of heart. I mentioned 40-50g of protein would be enough, but I think I was wrong. That may be enough for a typical person of your height that doesn't exercise intensely, but that's not you. Because you have the malabsorption component of the surgery, you have higher protein needs. If you exercise, you also need more. I'll revise my recommendation to at least 70g of protein.... or whatever your team recommends (of course!).

    Second Opinion from another Doctor

Yep. I had two second opinions. All pointed out the benefits of the sleeve. I gave them a week or two so I could do more research before committing to signing the papers, and see if this was the best option for me, because until this point I was settled on the RNY. They all agreed I could do a revision to bypass if I had any complications. Given my age (34), and the fact that RNY was more complicated, along with my comorbidities being under control at the time, it didn't necessitate the increased risk of having the RNY done as a first step. So I took their advice and went VSG and don't regret it one bit. I see absolutely nothing wrong with second opinions, I just don't buy into general statements, make sure your advice is tailored specifically to your situation, and I'd also advise research on the VSG.. like legitimate research from scientific journals rather than pro-surgery sites or profiteering surgeons.

    MGB weight loss stalled

Patients that weigh below 200 lbs (or had a revision) don't typically lose as quickly as someone that weighs a lot more, so try not to compare yourself to others. Cally, you've lost 14 lbs in 3.5 weeks , which isn't bad, especially after being pumped with IV fluids.

    Need Advice

Even though it will be a tough conversation, and she probably won't want to hear what you have to say, you need to talk to her about getting professional help from a psychologist and a nutritionist. All of the revisions in the world aren't going to matter one bit if she doesn't change her relationship with food. The surgery allows for weight loss during the "honeymoon phase" pretty much regardless of one's eating habits. That changes soon. The majority of this journey is about the mental game. If she's eating all of that crap on a regular basis, she's losing that battle. Good luck. I know this isn't easy, but I'd definitely have that conversation before she puts her body (and your checkbook) through more trauma.

    Need Advice

So, I hope this is ok to bring here, as I don't know where to go for the advice I'm seeking. This is a tough situation for me and I hope you guys don't mind me being on here since I've never had any bariatric surgery but since most outside the bariatric community probably don't know much about it, I wanted the advice to come from people who understand. My wife had a VGS done just over 2 years ago. She was doing so great with exercise and diet and lost over 100lbs. She was so happy and I was so happy for her. She hit a stahl before goal weight and that's where it ended. She gave up the gym but stayed at the diet and maintained where she was for a long time. Now though in the last couple months she has spiraled bad. She's eating only unhealthy food and at portions I can't even eat. I've started eating more healthy in hopes to lead by example with no results. When I say unhealthy I'm talking whole pizza, cake pie, fried chicken. And that's the last week. So here is my issue, she genuinely seems very confused as to why she's gaining weight so rapidly and is becoming very depressed by it. She's now planning a revision surgery to a DS instead of her current VGS thinking the sleeve isn't working for her. She is super sensitive and self conscious about her weight. I don't care if she gains it other than her happiness. I'm being extremely supportive and agreeable to the new surgery and just agreeing the sleeve is a problem and the DS will fix everything but inside I have huge doubts because of the recent eating habits. Should I bring this up and if so, how? Thank you all for any advice and help you can give me.
