Burn sensation when having a bowel movement
doxaholic posted a topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
So sometime ago i posted about this to see if anyone was expierincing these problems basically when i poop it burns. Well it finally got so bad i went to er they said its proctitis he did not give me anything at all just left me in pain. then went to see my doctor said the same thing but he gave me some muscle relaxers and stool softners and valium and of course doing sitz baths but still nothing helps. I keep telling them i think its my poop burning me but they just disregard me even my bariatric surgeon said it was not an issue with the surgery so he is not concerned. I am so worried waiting on a gastroenterologist to see me but in the mean time i have to go back to work and no changes. I dont know what to do i had blood work done was low in zinc and iron and d i asked the nutritionist if this would cause the problem she said she did not know. Oh great these people cant seem to help me pain is severe just want to be able to go without glass shards coming out. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
After my first Bariatric appointment my Dr. requested me to have a sleep study because I had told him that I suspected I have sleep apnea. Don't knock this, it usually helps with insurance approval if you do have sleep apnea. I did the sleep study, got a machine and was required to bring it to the hospital when I checked in. I used it for the one night I stayed in the hospital after surgery. They didn't put it on me during recovery, a nurse later that evening helped me get it setup in my room. It was no big deal, and the least of your challenges after this surgery.

Also available at Bariatric Pal Store and you're not enriching the. corporate spider of Amazon. I bought some along with many other items from B.P.S. and they do very fast shipping, no time at all from N.Y. to Ohio. -
Oh it will, but we all want what we. want and we want t9 see results Right Now. Its just Bariatric Human Nature to feel like that.

Ensure High Protein has a pleasanter flavor than most. I just purchased some earlier in the week. Many people like Premier Protein or Muscle Milk. Some of the others I wouldn't give 2 cents for. Several Pals also like Unjury or there are some nice ones at the Bariatric Pal store, if you feel like ordering some. Good retail stores are GNC, Sam's Club, Costco, Target and Wal-Mart.

Anthem Healthkeepers Blue Cross Blue Shield experiences?
Frustr8 replied to Reducingraven's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does in my state of Ohio, the companies offering it and think there are 4-6 different are more stringent than Medicare, all mine required was BMI above 39, didn't even need the 3 co-morbs I had. I think there are AnthemBcBs, CareSource, Buckeye, United Healthcare, Molina and another I cannot recall as well as Traditional Medicaid. But no complaints from Medicare, except my PICC line, took some wrangling there, they first were suggesting a tube through my stomach wall for feeding , that doesn't work for an RnY, only a day or so delay and then they agreed to what I have. But no problems with the Bariatric original SURGERY, and I feared that there might be, I knew it was going to be in my best interest to not exist That Obese!!! -
I take 40mg of Omeprazole and have been taking it long before my surgery for GERD. I will eventually stop it as per my doctor. However, if it comes back then I will go back to it. I also take a probiotic to help with that stuff. I read on a bariatric site that probiotics may enhance weight loss for bariatric patients. The bottom line is we have to try to eat the right foods that minimize reflux and it should be fine.

There are two types of DS surgery. The SADI loop DS and the traditional DS. The Loop DS is less invasive and weight loss is still high. Very long term studies are not as extensive yet. But the current data for exisiting patients seems to be quite impressive. I chose the Loop DS because the malabsorption was less than the traditional DS. My only fear is that it may not be enought to limit weight regain in the long term. We will see. But the weight loss with the DS seems to be more successful than any other surgery. Hope this helps you. Here is a good article to read that I found to be informative. Hope this helps you. http://bariatrictimes.com/exploring-the-role-of-single-anastomosis-bariatric-surgery/

Modified DS (Loop DS) vs. Traditional DS
James B replied to James B's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It is possible for bile reflux. So far I haven't experienced anything out of the normal range of what was to be expected. Overall, my issue was whether I should have the traditional DS to achieve the maximum weight loss in comparison to the SADI Loop DS. I just did not have enough success with the SG alone. It is a newer surgery just like the gastric bypass was 20 yrs or more ago. This article I came across may help those considering this surgery. http://bariatrictimes.com/exploring-the-role-of-single-anastomosis-bariatric-surgery/ -
Don't have one but I know- Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal switch, all but 10 feet of small intestine get rerouted but your pylorus( the valve at the bottom of the stomach ) is spared and functional. Adherents say it is better than RnY or sleeve, you have pretty quick weight loss but can eat most all foods or so I have been told. Don't do as many in the U.S. as overseas. There is a forum for DS on Bariatric Pal.

I am 6 weeks post surgery as I write this. Had a Loop DS performed on 12/17/18 from an original sleeve surgery 12/26/15 all performed by Dr. Basil Yurcisin at Garden State Bariatrics whom I recommend highly if you live in or near New Jersey. Originally lost nearly 70 lbs with the original Gastric sleeve but put on a bit more than half of it back before deciding to get more aggressive and choose a Loop DS. Since 12/17, I am down close to 40 lbs. For those reading this, there is a difference between a traditional DS and a loop DS. I grappled with this because I wanted the maximum weight loss effect. In the end, I settled for the Loop DS. because I was told the difference in weight loss is not that great compared to the negative side effects of the traditional DS. From some of the more traditional doctors, the jury is still out on the long term effects of the Loop DS. Please feel free to share your experiences for all who like me need the encouragement and to learn from each other, since we are part of the research to settle these issues.

I wish I thought of this, it's a Super Cool idea. We want to be treated as an individual, not just one of a herd, why not extend the same courtesy to our Caregivers in Bariatrics? Your girls are going to grow up exceptional with you as a Mama training them! God Bless you and them.😇👼 -

Like my Little Bariatric motto, Your mind wrote a check Your body had trouble cashing and now your energy level is overdrawn. Guess you'll have to ease back in a little more gently, your body isn't ready for the MS OLYMPIA competition right now!😛🏆 -

Medical professionals : why do you do the work you do? Why did choose to work with Bariatric patients? OMGOSH, the responses have been amazing. From family and personal experiences you learn so much. I met nurse, who attended an Ivy League school, who has been practicing for two years and loves work with people. On two occasions, she grew her hair and donated the hair to organizations that make wigs for children. So, I challenge you in the midst of your discomfort, to focus on people around you - so they see understand that Bariatric patients are individuals who want to live, love, dance in the rain, and focusing on this experience to share with others. Man, could we focus on the bad things but I am focusing on the great things awaiting me on the other side! Thank you Lord!- 5 replies

It would be best to call them directly. Medicaid covers bariatric surgery only in some states. Sent from my moto e5 (XT1920DL) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Whew. Thanks for giving me a better idea of what your eating. I understand meal replacement on the run. Many sites sell products marked to bariatric patients. Shop around and compare prices before you buy. An eleven pound weight bounce is manageable. I maintain a ten pound weight bounce. When the scale moves up. I go back into weight loss mode to get it back down to 130's Your not alone. Most sleeve feel less restriction year+ out. Its normal. Know that your stomach has not stretched back to its original size.** (revisions are rare. If you think it's stretched and you need a revision contact your surgeon to get it diagnosed)** Now that you can consume more food, Its finding ways to fill the extra space without going over your calories/macros to maintain/lose weight . It's also finding foods that keep you feeling less hungry. Honestly, real food is how I manage the extra sleeve capacity/hunger. I hope you find what works for you. As you can tell, I'm not a fan of proceed replacement products. To each their own. Products that break down rapidly or liquids don't keep me full. (example protein shakes, soups, chips) Items that have more bulk help with hunger. I keep quest bars in my car for quick food on the run. (cost effective and easy to find locally)

#27/#28 Overcoming Obstacles/Biggest Struggles (I am SO slacking!) So, my biggest obstacle is eating. Ironic, right? Up until 1/5, it was very painful for me to eat. It really made me detest food because every time I would eat, it would hurt SO BAD, so it turned me off to the idea and has made me feel like food is the enemy. I am looking for a specialty therapist to help me accept food a bit better so I am able to reach my protein goals. I have been turned down by A LOT of therapists I've contacted because I am a bariatric patient and supposed to eat less food and they don't know how to deal with that. It's sort of like being a fat anorexic. LOL. Which isn't a thing in the DSM. I continue to lose weight and I am not malnourished; I hope to nip this in the bud before it becomes a larger problem. The prospect of the pain is terrifying, however. I do have an unhealthy relationship with food, both pre and post-op. It's like I went from overeating/binge eating/food addiction to the opposite end of the spectrum. In my mind, if I eat, I will get fat again. And I can't have that. It's a large mental hurdle and a terrible thing. Very unhealthy. I guess as far as overcoming obstacles, it was dealing with and healing up from the complications. I hydrate so much more now, now that nothing hurts inside. I also felt really awkward eating out at first, but now IDGAF about asking for a box right away or eating a tiny amount. I do need to learn to eat slower around people because I feel bad making them wait, and then I get foamy later. Just a habit I need to get used to. But I am happy I feel much more comfortable eating out now. And I am able to make good choices anywhere. I've also stopped bitching about the rate of weight loss. LOL. I accept it for what it is and I am happy with how things are going. We'z gon' get thurr.

Hello all, I’m still pre-op, doing some research while I wait for my intake appointment, and came across some information that pointed to an increase in cases of vasovagal syncope after bariatric surgery. My question is- does anyone have experience with having VS BEFORE wls? If so, did your surgeon have concerns? Did your symptoms worsen after surgery? If they did, did this decrease over time as your body adjusted and your diet rounded out? I will be discussing this with my surgeon, but I wanted to see if anyone could share their own experiences. Thanks!

Keto Diet with weight loss surgery - What are your thoughts about it?
sillykitty replied to erics300's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Be cautious about making these kind of statements on a bariatric forum. This is contrary to just about every program ever posted on this forum. Most post op diets are very low calorie, VLC, at least at the beginning. A large caloric deficiency is the norm. This generally leads to rapid initial weight loss. And then as we heal and our stomachs naturally stretch a bit we eat more calories, and weight loss naturally slows. But there is a honeymoon period with WLS, and if someone is eating at or near their BMR is will generally slow losses, and squander this window. Of the thousands of posts on stalls on this forum, and others, I have anecdotally concluded that stalls start and break absolutely independently of what anyone eats or does. But for bariatric patients eating consistently below your BMR does not leads to stalls or gains, anymore than anything else causes these, like breathing, or a full moon, or who wins the Super Bowl. -
Really? My doctor said the opposite. He told me I could ditch the bariatric chewables for regular pills, but go with high quality vitamins (not the Centrum crap). I personally like the Methyl Life brand for a multivitamin. It has the best forms of each vitamin and, since they are methylated, its much easier for your body to absorb. You have to go sublingual for your biotine and B12 (they don't absorb well in pill form). I am taking Iron, Vitamin C and potassium in a pill form now. I don't take calcium since I am prone to developing kidney stones.

I use MyFitnessPal and love it. I also use a garmin fitness track which links to MyFitnessPal, so the food I log shows up on the garmin site. If you're a fitbit person, fitbit has its own proprietary tracker built in to its app. Other people like bariatric specific apps, but I haven't used them yet so I can't comment.

They're not bariatric, but I love the recipes on Skinnytaste.com. they all include the nutritional info.
-
Does anybody know of any good cookbooks out there for Bariatric Eating that already have the Nutritional info and Macros listed in the recipe. My biggest downfall is tracking. If it were just food items, it would not be as bad as creating recipes to find info needed to track.

Keto Diet with weight loss surgery - What are your thoughts about it?
🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺 replied to erics300's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The Ketovangelist way of keto doesn't have you mind your calories in that way. Check this link out https://www.ketovangelist.com/the-calorie-hypothesis/ Calories are more of a guide to make sure you don't drop below your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). Most folks do well taking an average of their BMR and maintenance calories and using that number as a guide to create their macros. Here's an excellent TDEE calculator https://tdeecalculator.net/ (just don't let it make your macros - it's WAY off) Constantly eating below your BMR causes stalls and gains so that happy medium between your BMR and maintenance seems to prevent that and keep you burning fat and sparing muscle. Have you found an FB group for bariatric folks doing keto? There has to be one. I'm not sure how pre-op keto will translate to post-op since most post-op folks are eating low fat. I'm sure I'll eventually be seeking out a group. Let me know if you find one you like.
