So last night I took my teenage daughter (14) to the movies. We were in the process of getting ready and she starts freaking out! She says " MOM!!! What the heck?!" I being in shock was like "What , what happened?!" She says "You're wearing my freaking underwear!!" I immediately flipped the tag over and sure enough they were hers! She bought the same ones as me only two sizes smaller. I, being thoroughly amused started doing the booty shaking victory dance. She however was not near as amused as I was. That's ok though because I got a new NSV AND I inherited a new pair of undies!! For some reason she insisted that I keep them! So when I say "funniest" what I really mean is funniest for me. Ha!! Winning!!!

The good thing about being a slow loser

Ok so, this is the end of day 5 of the pouch test. I weighed this morning - (desperate and therefore almost naked!) - my offical weigh day.... and I am.... *drum roll* down a POUND!!! All that for a pound...oh and my monthly visitor turned up... hmph! OK, positive slant... a pound is a pound is a pound... that is better than nothing or a gain ... new slow losers mantra!!! I really want to get 186lb -now currently at 190 - as this would be my half way goal... grrrrr C'mon body, work with me here!!! Another positive NSV... I had a bath tonight... ok so that isn't unusual... well, for me it is cos I don't normally have a bath, I tend to shower... less time to see my self naked...lol Anyway, the last time I had a bath was way before my sleeve... I couldn't believe how much room was in there!!! I have definately shrunk in width... and my tummy was almost all under the Water too....yey!!! -

I totally think this is true. I haven't lost weight in a few weeks now - and I'm not lying, my body feels like it has shrunk A LOT!!! Sometimes I'll look at myself (like my butt or whatever) and I don't even recognize it's me in the mirror (nice NSV!!) My pants (sizes 16M now) are getting saggy bottom, fitting very loose in the waist and my XL shirts are TOO BIG now. My Larges even getting a loose too. I'm actually smaller now than I ever was with my band. I weigh right now a few pounds more, but my body is definitely smaller. I just realize I'm not one of the ones who can focus so much on the scale. My sleeve IS WORKING!!! I just have to keep doing what I'm doing and play by a different set of rules. I just go with the flow though. I know I'm gonna have a good loss one of these weeks. -
NSV's are the best, congrats, and good work! Karen

Today I'll be doing some walking outside. I have to go to court for talking on my cell phone while driving :faint: so I have to park about 10 blocks away to get to the courthouse. That's about 5 miles roundtrip probably in high heeled boots, that'll be fun! Oh a NSV, my cousin and her husband came over last night and we were goofing around taking pictures, I can definetely tell I lost weight in my face it's weird! -
Great NSV. Keep up the good work!

Super NSV!

Awesome! Congrats! My very first NSV too was a normal BP!

Congratulations! I had an interview last week and found a skirt in my closet (Talbot's) that I forgot I had; though it would not have fit before. So a similar NSV. When I moved 3 years ago I gave away all my skinny clothes from the last time I lost weight. I did not want to pay to move/store them. This skirt and several other items were with clean Dry Cleaning clothes in the coat closet and thus got moved. -
TWO NSV's accomplished at the same time. 1. I got a bra from Victoria's Secret and it FITS! (BTW, the stores only go to a 38DD, but the online catalog goes to a 40DD. I got one from a store!) 2. My BFF and I are sharing clothes again! I raided her closet while here on vacation with the promise to return it when it's too big! We haven't been able to share clothes in 10 years! Good luck, everyone!

So, I'm in Walmart this morning, doing a little shopping, when I look up and see this really handsome black man. He looks REALLY familiar, too. At first I thought he was someone else, but when I asked, he said no, but he's a Dr Domkowski patient, too. That's when I realized I was talking to Mr. J!!! I've been following his journey here and on You Tube, and I knew he lived here in Vero, but I was stunned to actually see him in person! BTW, Mr. J seriously needs to update his pic on here! If he hadn't been smiling, I might not have recognized him! It was nice to meet him in person. He's very charming and kind, even when accosted by strange women in Walmart! I imagine he's got his own NSV for today "Some crazy lady came up and talked to me out of the blue!"

About 7 mos ago before I was banded I bought about $100 worth of bras from Lane Bryant....Now that I have been banded for about 6 mos none of them fit! That is a wonderful NSV but really expensive too boot....

Well make that a few this time around. Another bag of undies went into the bin this morning. Two pounds away from a total of 80 pounds lost, which fingers crossed will be in a few days. Five pairs of shoes gone to the op shop, they were falling off my feet. And another bag of clothes out the door this morning also. My wardrobe is getting very bare. Will wait till Christmas sales to go get a couple of new things. To those of you just starting out or at plateau keep at it those are just temporary stalls. When I looked back at my stats I record every day I realise I was in a kinda of a plateau for a few months, I still lost but some weeks it was gaining and loosing the same few pounds over and over. I stayed strong and on my new path and these last few weeks the weight is melting off again. Persistence and patience is the key. Oh and an edit , bmi is now at 49 compared to 62.8 at the start of the year.

I WALKED TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW!!!!!!!! (Major, MAJOR NSV) I really really really stink at consistant exercise! On the way home I was giving myself all kinds of OUTs and Excuses to just stop and pick him up on the way home.......... (too late, I may not make it before 5, too hot, he may be too hot from playing, ohhh I'll just walk AFTER we get home... ) it was literally the voices in my head ( ALL THE APRIL bandsters 06 & 07's ) telling me to get over myself and suck it up and just do it! SO I DID. It is only .6 miles each way.. so for all you REAL exercisers that's not even worth breaking a sweat for, but for ME it is a big deal.... cause I was sweating like I just ran a marathon! LOL

Bumping for newbies -- and for a quick update. It's been a year since I started this thread, and I've actually met some of the goals. 1. To weigh less than any of my brothers for the first time since birth. YES! 2. To be able to buy clothes in a "regular" store and department, and not have to pay the women's-size premium when ordering through a catalog. (Notice how petite sizes don't cost any LESS than misses.)YES! But I still like Lane Bryant trousers since they fit my big behind and come in tall sizes. 3. To have my arse stop moving when I stop walking. Not yet. Probably never! 4. To be able to keep up with my nieces and nephew without having to take a nap. YES! 5. To have my driver's license weight be inaccurate, because it's too high. Not yet. But now it's at least plausible -- a mere 19 pounds off instead of 92. 6. To be able to sit in a tourist-class airplane seat without having to lift the armrest YES! and also not to have strangers wince when they realize that I'm seated next to them.No comment! New bandsters, please be patient with yourselves, no matter how hard it seems. Change does happen. Check out Vinesqueen's wonderful list of NSVs for great insights on achieving success with your band.

I was in the tub today and I can now lay my hands along side myself. Before I would have to have them behind my back or laying on my big belly. Seems silly, but it was a great feeling for me today.

1 Full Year Post Op... The Real Test Of Time.
LilMissDiva Irene posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I wanted to touch base with you all... because I can! On Thursday I will be 18 months post op. One and one half years exactly. Yay! I'm happy. Yup, that about sums it up right there. Here's something I've learned and I think by sharing this bit of knowledge it might help some of you who might be struggling mentally with figuring out how - when - where - what - why's with the Post Op life of a VSG patient. Notice the word "patient"... because seriously, you will never find this more of a virtue than after you have your surgery. This journey IS!! NOT!! EASY!! You're going to have so many ups and downs you won't know where you're headed sometimes. It's ok, and it's normal to feel confused by a lot of things! That's why this forum is so valuable, all of us pre-oppers and post-oppers coming together to offer support and some great advice. Here is something to look forward to though... rather than become fixated on how much one will lose on the first month out, or for that matter 6 months... concentrate rather on how your life will look IN ONE YEAR from the date of your surgery. You're going to have a Santa's List worth of NSV's, likely you will have cleaned out your closet and replaced all your clothes 2 or 3x over. Some people (for example my own Mom) will pass you right up and not realize that you're YOU... You're going to be bombarded with folks coming up and either congratulating you and/or asking you how you did it. You will probably get a little embarrassed by some comments. You won't need to buy your clothes in the Bigs & Talls anymore. Your shoes are going to fit like they should. You will be able to walk and workout with the greatest of ease and without much pain. Likely you will begin to feel more comfortable in larger crowds... and (if you're single) you might feel more empowered to flirt with others. You will fit nicely in stadium seats, in an airplane without extenders, chairs with arm rests... you will also be able to cross your legs like second nature. Your Before & After photos won't even look like you!! These are only a handful of all the wonderful things you WILL experience at one year out... that you will still be dreaming of at one month. Patience. It's THE #1 asset to have in this whole process. Have a great day everyone! -
I agree... I wish I could make myself stay off of the scale. I'm one of those that go up and down but overall in the week I have a loss. Make sense? Well when I see that "up" that KILLS me and a lot of the time that sets my mood for the day. My husband HATES the scale :Banane10: I really surprised he hasn't thrown it out yet. Maybe I should try and set that as a NSV this week... Can I stay off the scale until Saturday morning... HMM... could be a thought. :Banane10:

I am now in a size 11/12 juniors. I'm so stoked!! I even got into an addidas jacket I haven't worn in years. I'm big into sports and have a ton of sporty clothing I haven't been able to wear and now I can!

Can you have SF popsicles? That helped me out with the "chewing" need...congratulations on your great progress, and the NSV (non-scale victory) of cutting your diabetic meds in half! WHooot! That's great! Hang in there, and get through it one hour at a time. You'll be SOOOOOOOOO glad you did, and you won't hardly remember the tough first month!

I'm ba-a-a-ack! I have tonight and tomorrow to get to 16 workouts. I won't make the goal either, Julie. That is why I think we should have a few levels of achievement, bronze, silver and gold!! Then we won't feel like "losers" if we only fit in 16 workouts. So I have been looking forward to this little jaunt to Mexico as I have not had a fill in nearly 7 months. Over the weekend I ate candy, ice cream, and prepared for total deprivation. There was NO way I would run in the snowstorm, so when I gingerly lifted the other leg onto the scale I winced at what number would be my fate. I actually lost .5 a pound. NOT RIGHT!! In Mexico, I got only .2 cc additional fill. So I'm at 1.6. The doctor knows I am conservative and terrified of a slip from PB's. So he gave the most minute amount. I don't even feel it. Oh, please let it tighten over the next week! I warned him that I am ravenous 30 minutes after eating. He told me that it is caused from the exercise. One NSV is that the nutritionist was sharing with me that she could walk/run 5K in 45:00. "YES!!" I pumped my fist and bragged that four months ago I ran it in under 34:00. hahaha! I hope to beat that time next week.... Blue, you might be too weak to post, but we are all thinking of you just the same. Julie, I'm so glad you are back from your trip and moving ahead with the surgery! We'll all see how you do, then follow....Hey, isn't that what we have been doing all along?? Thank you for being our pacesetter, even though you couldn't fit it in. We are all working through stuff this month! Hugs to ALL!!!!

When you stall...
Spirit Fire replied to maharet111's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just tell them I'm at a plateau and will start losing again when the plateau breaks. I know some successful people who stalled for 2-3 weeks while other successful people had 9-month plateaus. It is different for everyone. For me, from the very beginning, I've been up-front and honest with myself and others. I've been on a very slow crawl ever since September, but seem to have NSVs often so my body is changing and the way people see me is changing even when the scale doesn't reflect these changes. -
I was a 26/28 top and a 24 bottom, I now wear 20/18 bottom and 22 tops. My closet is empty, my cloths dont fit. I gave them to Goodwill. I'm a school bus driver, I no longer zig-zag down the bus asile. I can actualy walk stright down the asile and dont bounce between the seats. And my belly doesnt touch the steering wheel. I have more energy! OMG! I sleep better, I sleep like the dead! I dont snore anymore and my back no longer hurts in the morning. And the best NSV, my dd hugs me and tells me "Mommy, I can wrap my arms around you when I hug you." Thats the best one of all. Tina

Congrats on all your NSV's!! I was size 22 now down to 18 and can even fit into 16 in some styles. I have not been that small for at least 9 years. I can actually run now. Never have I been able to run during a workout. The biggest NSV for me will be when I can get on my horse without using a fence, or mounting block. That will be a changing point in my life. I am still struggling, but maybe another 6 weeks and it will happen for me. :w00t:
