Would like some advice about what to tell work
Vikingsfan8178 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If all goes well, I should be headed towards Sleeve surgery on May 7th. I need to initiate conversations with my boss this week and get my time off on the calendar. Getting the time off will not be a problem. I have a good relationship with my boss and his supervisors as well. I am not going to be able to go into his office and say "I need to be out 2 weeks due to surgery" and then leave it at that. He is going to be concerned (which is good) and I feel like leaving it open ended will be the most uncomfortable path to take. So, I think I am going to say I am having a hernia repair. I met someone the other day that I had thought was a WLS surgery patient because they had obviously lost a lost of weight. I asked her for advice and she said that she actually did not have WLS surgery but did have hernia surgery (two hernia's actually) and she had to follow a similar diet that us WLS patients follow, thus the weight came off for her. That planted the seed in my mind. I can simply say hernia repair and when the questions come about losing weight, I can say that I have to follow a diet due to the surgery and I am continuing the diet for my health. I typically like to be straight up with people and be direct but we all know their is a judgemental stigma that comes with weight loss surgery and I don't want to deal with that (especially when I will be dealing with enough of my own emotions anyway). Ok -- feel free to comment. -
91vert Congratulation on your upcoming surgery! This is site is going to be your support during your journey! Remember to use it! As far as asking questions about weight loss you will learn that everyone is very different. Don't ever let your experience be reflected upon what others may experience. There are slow loser, fast loser, and people that wish they have never gotten the band. Your journey will be JUST YOUR OWN. Don't use others to define your path let them help you along it. Your body and your dedication to healthy eating and exercising will guide you. Having said all that, WOW only 2 days down with gallbladder surgery. Everyone I know had a hard time with that one. I think lap band is a walk in the park compared to that. I think you are going to do GREAT! Don't make yourself nervous over it, be excited to start your new life. I will be thinking and praying for you on the 9th, please let me know how it goes!

1 Year Lap Band Surgery Anniversary And Struggling....
Jachut replied to janepur's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ive always found a solid 45 minutes to an hour of hard exercise (think running, spinning, bootcamp rather than walking, zumba, recumbent bike) is necessary for wright loss. - and now maintenance. And i did find i lost weight totally unfilled. But thats nothing to do with starvation mode. Its because a diet made up of fruit, vegies and wholegrains has less calorues than one full of sliders like shakes, yogurt, Cookies ( the ultimate slider for me). But i could only keep it up for a few months, the temptation to eat up grew over time. -
First of all, this journal won't be specifically about lapband surgery and weight loss. I'm on this site every day more than once usually, and I need to start journaling again. So, it's just common sense to use this space. Secondly, I like to write. Last year, 2005, was the toughest roughest year I have yet experienced. My mom had surgery, stayed in hospitals for 5 months due to complications, and a septic infection finally ended it. Her funeral was on what would have been her 73rd birthday. There will be more about this in other entries. Part of this journal's purpose is to work through this grief. So, the first half of 2005 was spent in hospitals. I decided to face this weight problem and the health problems associated with it and had lapband surgery in July. In November, the day following my 50th birthday (THIS was the highlight of 2005 - my 50th birthday...go figure!), my beautiful, wonderful 92 year old grandmother passed. She had a stroke that led to a coma and she passed peacefully. Yeah, she had a great, healthy long life, but dang! My mom and my grandmother in one year? I told you it was going to be about other stuff. Attitude of gratitude - well, that's just a reminder! One way to handle loss is to try hard to see the good stuff you have. Seems like that might be a good idea for us "lapdancers"...that's what my DH call us...to have the attitude of gratitude, too. I'm sure I'll explore more of that idea, too. I'm grateful for this journal space, and the invitation to use it. I'm grateful for the blessing in disguise offered by the dr. who told me I was too heavy for him to realistically treat my ankle...and suggested this lapband surgery. I am grateful for my little girl's unquestioning, unconditional love (if you don't count being held hostage by the desire for more Polly Pockets!) To be continued...

Feeling Down, looking for a little support
lessofm3 replied to LovedinFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
30 pounds since June 3rd? That's fantastic! Like others have said everyone loses at their own rate. You can't compare your weight loss to others. Also, keep in mind you didn't put on your excess weight overnight, so you're not going to lose it overnight. Remember, slow and steady wins the race! -
back home! my sleeve story so far :)
SParkle replied to beautifuldisaster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your sleeve and your current weight loss - what a brilliant start to your new life. Kathy -
Dr li did my surgery too, she was great. I only lost like 2 lbs preop when she told me to lose 10. I just did calories in calories out method. She is great, she wants the weight loss just to shrink the liver some.

Maybe this will help you with MOTIVATION
jetsy62 replied to cattoy71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is common sense to expect and see larger weight loss the first six months to a year than you will after that. I started this process weighing 305 pounds. If I continue to lose the 2 pounds per week my doctor is asking for I will weigh 201 pounds a year from now. Even I can figure out it is easier to lose weight weighing 305 pounds than it is weighing 201 pounds. The closer I get to goal weight, I expect it to get harder. That being said, I am still going to work as hard as I am now to get there. I already have accepted the fact that it will be harder but I will get there. -

Iweeny posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost two weeks out... I am not a depressed person, but i feel a little depression comming on. all I can think is why did I do this to my self...chop 85% of my stomach. I rescreached this surgery for two years. Did my homework I thought this was the answer to my weight loss. I am hungry I feel tried and I don't feel much restriction ..I am worried I did this surgery and I will still be able to eat quite a bit. I am doing mushy food at this time. Help...will these feelings go away? -
Hiatel Hernia and Angulation
SleeveandRNYchica posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 3 years post op. I was a slow loser. I lost 53lbs pre/post op from Oct 2012 until July 2013. We found out we were expecting a baby in Sept 2013.. My weight loss slowed between July and August of 2013 leading up to pregnancy. I had a difficult pregnancy but gained weight just like I did in my pre-sleeve pregnancy. After my delivery in 2014, I noticed an increase in reflux and my weightloss was nonexistent. I consulted with a new doctor. He ordered a barium swallow. That showed a hiatal hernia and confirmed gerd. Today, I had my follow up endoscopy which confirmed a nice size hiatal hernia and I have an angulated sleeve, meaning the sleeve is like a hook (I was still a bit high when dr was explaining) lol. But the food does not leave it just sits. It backs up causing gerd and stretching of sleeve. I am feeling some kinda way. Not sure what... Still processing. Gotta make a follow up appt with dr. -
Do You Ever Feel Like You Haven't Lost Enough?
Jim1967 replied to Lori Voss Green's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree any loss is a good loss. I am really hard on myself and sometimes have to stop and think about it. I have lost 70 pounds in 4 months and that is an average of 17.5lbs a month. That's not too shabby but I think too much about it sometimes and I get down on myself for it. My wife had to hide the scale on me because I was weighing every morning and I was starting to get obsessive over it. I guess its because I am so heavy and have so much to lose. Instant gratification is what we yearn for but it just isn't realistic.... -
Do You Ever Feel Like You Haven't Lost Enough?
Cazzy replied to Lori Voss Green's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its knowing when to stop losing weight that is important. In some way it would be easier to continue to lose weight as u still have a goal to work to, but when u reach goal, i found it harder to not have a goal there to work to. I had 3 different weight goals and changed them everytime i hit one, but apart from wanting to drop a few lbs more i am done.. i am using the mirror now to gauge if i need to lose more, i dont think my face will take much more weight loss. U have to consider that our bodies have a mind of their own as to where we lose our weight from, so losing too much will also depend on where u are losing it from. -
I just hear people being sick from not getting there protein in or eating the wrong foods and I guess that is just something that Im going to have to learn what foods I can and can't eat , I guess I just don't know what to expect after the band I don't want my hair to fall out and I want to make sure I get all the right vitamins

I am just wondering about your exercise habits.... have you exercised or not and how much weight have you lost? Also how much is loose skin an issue and so you think exercise would lessen losse skin?

It's only been 17dys since my surgery and I'm so in love with my sleeve already! I started at 346lbs and for the pre-op diet I got down to 330lbs exactly. And today I weight 310.6lbs! 11 more pounds to go and I'll be out of the 300's for good! I'm just so happy I want to scream from the roof tops! Now I know I have a long ways to go until my goal (160lbs), but I'm so happy to get out the 300's. Hopefully I'll meet this goal by the end of the month and then I'll begin to tackle the 200's. I just started walking a mile a day so that should help as well. Guys this is so exciting to lose weight. My skin is better.. I sleep better.. even wake up before the alarm goes off.. and that's only with a 36lb weight loss.. I can't imagine what losing 150lbs will feel like... because this right here is fantastic!!!

Post op liquid diet - can you lose too much?
reverie replied to Sistersue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll be fine. If anything you're dropping Water weight and Fluid weight from surgery; not a "true" weight-loss per say. -
thanks for answering guys... i've also had a bit of a sore throat the last few days, so I might be coming down with something. it's probably the combo of my rag and the starting of a cold that's messing me up right now. i'm going to stick with Soups, Protein drinks and yogurt for a couple days. it'll probably do me a bit of good and maybe jumpstart my weight loss again... hopefully

Question for the Ladies RE: Stalls After Menstruation
Mom2IrishTwins posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering if this is something everyone experiences across the board or what. I keep track of my weight, daily, on a wall calendar so I can really pick up on patterns, etc. and here's what I've found... I lose weight consistently throughout the month. I continue to lose while I am on my period. As soon as my period has ended, my weight loss stops and I basically don't lose anything for 7 to 10 days, though I do absolutely nothing different. Then suddenly, it starts coming off again at a rapid pace. Anyone else experience this? -
Is it normal to be THIS nutts before surery?!
vbaldwin replied to jigglebutt1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the same thing! A week before my surgery date, I almost decided to not do it. I had already lost about 20 pounds and started thinking I could just do it myself without going through this major change. Of course, that's ridiculous; I've certainly said that before! Luckily my banded friend told me how crazy I was. Long story short - I did it last Friday. It's done before you know it. I would say that right now focus on preparing yourself mentally for your life after the band and review what you must do to make it work as a weight loss tool for you. It will be great! -
Having Trouble Eating Enough
neece1 replied to neece1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the responses! I think everyone is right. I had not considered that I could have restriction without the pb, stuck episodes, or vomiting. Maybe I just get to miss that part. I just am concerned that not getting enough calories will slow or stop my weight loss. Which is how I got to all the exercising. -
welcome!! I am also a nurse, currently working OR and used to work ICU. Now I'm hoping to switch to Interventional Radiology. Yay nurses!! I felt the same way as you.. working OR in a busy level 1 trauma hospital all I saw were patients who'd had complications (adhesions, strictures, fistulas, severe malnutrition).. so that was my view of WLS. But then I did some training over at our outpatient and WLS surgery centers and realized how many people had the surgery and did NOT have complications so I got interested. I really did not want them rearranging my intestine either, way more complications with that from what I've seen over the years as a nurse. Unfortunately my insurance will not cover anything weight loss related so I ended up going to Mexico.. had a GREAT experience there and can I just say their OR was WAY nicer than the world famous one I work in LOL they also use the same exact equipment we do. Anyway I'm so glad I did this, I am about 3 weeks out and already feel way healthier than I did pre op and I'm down 27 lbs! My only regret is I didn't do it sooner but you're not ready til you're ready ya know? Anyway welcome and hope what you find on this site helps you on your journey!

Getting yelled at for losing "too much"

Ok, I am not being diplomatic here. Your NUT sounds NUTS! It sounds like you're eating exactly what you should be. Congratulations on your loss!
