2 days postop... How did you feel?

You will feel normal again! I remember that was the question I asked myself most in those early days. I'm pretty sure I even posted it on here a few times. "Will I ever feel normal again!??!?!" But I eventually did and you will too! It's hard to believe right now, I know, but you really really will. As for the pureed stage, I never once ate any actual pureed food. I had my Protein shakes, yogurt, and recipes from this page: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html The Baked Ricotta saved me!

    I survived!

Congratulations!! The gas pain was the worst for me and I felt it in my chest and under my ribs!! Walking helped loads and pain meds.!! Once I got to full liquids I got lots of liquid savory Soups like tomato red pepper, carrot ginger, creamy corn and roasted red peppers, butternut squash, etc mostly the imagine brand bc they are low to non fat and taste great. I added fage Greek plain yogurt for more Protein and creaminess. Some ppl cant handle thickness early on but if you can, those are sone of my suggestions. Happy recovering

    Wtf?

Good Morning, I am still on mushie and also very hungry. I am eating about 1/2 cup of food every 2hrs. When two hours comes I am starving. Iam making good choices. 1 egg in am,protein drink, yogurt, cottage cheese, I have processed chicken and mixed with mashed potatoe and on the side a little butternut squash. That was all a total of 1/2 cup. I am walking about 5 1/2 miles aday. But I spread it out once in the am and pm. That really helps keep my mind off being hungry. Where is your kidney pain? I have a pain on my left side in front that really bothers me when I walk. Dr. said it was muscle tissue from the port.

What is your protein intake looking like? I'm 9 months out and down 139lbs to 186. My original goal was 180, but since I've been loosing so easily, I do believe I could get down to 160 and muscle up a lot more for definition, etc. I still drink a 30g protein shake every morning and sometimes one for lunch/dinner or a 30g protein bar then eat a few things here and there. I've been staying away from carbs, pastas, and pretty much anything that isn't good for me, but I have taken a liking to "Baked Naturals" crackers... they are SO DELISH! Cashews are my go-to munchy food, and I buy stock in eggs and 8x protein flavored Greek yogurt. In October, I was supposed to get blood work done and have another follow-up appointment, but we've been strapped with money, and I've been putting it off. I've been good on multivitamins, etc. so I don't feel like anything is wrong. The weight loss has slowed down, but that just means that I need to up my exercise and quit snacking so much throughout the day. Average pounds lost each month is now 8-9 depending on water and whatever else. I say keep up the good work, everyone! From what I read here and there, you all seem to be doing great!
  5. So today is day 4 for me post-op. My doctor limits my consumption to only clear liquids, which I could not be more sick of! I'm hungry and feeling a little down today. I don't really have a reason for posting other then that. lol - pretty selfish, right? I would give just about anything for some yogurt or eggs!

Starting stage 3 tomorrow and need recipe help

I didn't make many recipes until I was cleared for regular food. For the soft stage I think I started eating yogurt with small bits of fruit, soft scrambled eggs, chili, meatballs with Low Sugar sauce, string cheese, and turkey lunch meat. i ate no veggies because there wasn't any room once I ate the protein.

    Any April surgery buddies

I was sleeved April 3. Am I the only one who was immediately put on stage 2 diet the day after surgery? Seems like everyone is on clear liquids except me. I actually havent tried eating anything beyond yogurt since coming home because I'm having a hard time with getting it in. I've only been able to drink 1 full bottle of water on 1 day. Today I'm trying to drink at least one full protein shake and 2 waters throughout the day Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Hello Well first I want to say congrats on being sleeved! I am also slightly envious as at 3 weeks I couldn't eat the way you do! (Not that you eat badly, I simply had no room and could barely get Water down). I am now 6 months out and I do not count anything other than Protein... and even though I only count the obvious. So for example I count my Protein shake or my yogurt (I add in protein) or the cheese stick I eat... but I don't weigh my meat so I can do an exact count. Typically for me I hit either on or over my protein min with the things that are easy to count, so I know that any meat I eat is just contributing to going over my protein min and I don't count it. I will say that I am careful to a point about my carbs. If it interferes with my protein I stay away from them. So I'll have the "stuff" in a sandwich without the bread (bread hurts me anyways). But if we go out for ice cream as a group, I'll get a kids size and stop when i'm full. As long as you meet your protein mins and don't go crazy (like a milkshake every day) you should be fine. Oh, and (this may have been said in previous posts, but i didn't have time to read them all) they make many, many lactose free Protein shakes. You should be able to find one easily. Good luck!
  9. Wow I didn't know this. I thought after surgury you drink protein drinks which are dairy based? I guess yogurt will not be a soft food either. I need to find out what everyone is eating after surgury?? Any input for me? Susan - that is terrible for you. I hope it all works out very soon.
  10. Full liquids includes things like yogurt and FAGE yogurt is high in protein. I had a lot of special "bariatric" foods for that time including protein soups. Or you can add protein to your soups. What's the name of the unflavored protein powder you are using?
  11. The only thing that bugged me, for sure, was milk. I ate cheese and yogurt like crazy. I could also have milk in things -- baked and cooked. I did suspect that some of the 100% whey shakes were not helping but I could get them down. I eventually switched to a shake that was a whey/soy mix and that never gives me a tummy ache.

    Day 6 and Starving

I agree with Jen. I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks with the exceptions of protein shakes, milk and lumpfree yogurt. He said that protein was imperative to proper healing.

Any New Uk Sleevers Out There?

I wish I was on the milk diet I think I could cope better with it?! I could live on lf yogurt and sf milk jelly LOL They've put me on an 800 cal diet, which I'm finding hard. I wonder why different surgeons have different diets?! I have 200lbs to lose, going to be hard feel I'm up for the challenge with help from a good surgeon! I completely get the stairs, more than 2 flights and i'm buggered LOL Oh yes, sexy clothes at looonnnnggg last LOL
  14. I eat full fat cottage cheese, mayo, ricotta, etc. I stick to greek yogurt. The low fat versions typically have more carbs and don't taste good. Based on the small amount I eat it has never been a concern.
  15. I also had my surgery on August 26th and i totally feel what you are saying about the liquid diet. Some things that are helping me through are the wonton soup broth. I love it. My doctor has allowed me to progress to thin cream soups, yogurt and pudding which satisfies the sweet tooth. Yesterday i was allowed to start thin mashed potatoes (this is the only time my doctor will allow mashed potatoes) and today I'm allowed to have well chewed bananas and strawberries. I'm not sure what eating plan your surgeon has you on but these are some foods that have really helped me through. I'm allowed to start slowly adding scrambled eggs on Wednesday. Cream of wheat is another food that has really kept me satisfied. It's warm, filling and you can use splenda brown sugar to sweeten it a little. I read that you've been chewing on ice chips but maybe try a sugar free popsicle. You can chew on it and it taste good. I also have the same problem with the stomach growling. Sometimes i have a hard time telling if i'm hungry or not. I have figured out for myself that if my stomach is growling and i'm light headed, then i'm hungry.
  16. I was just banded on August 26, 2011. My insurance paid for everything and required the 6 months of pre op therapy. I have never had any type of surgery before so i'm healing very quickly but my appetite is also coming back fast. I'm not due for my first fill till sept. 20th. I'm not eating very much when i eat, i'm just eating more frequently. Is that normal? I've been eating pudding, cream of wheat, yogurt, soup and protein drinks. Today i'm allowed to start having bananas and strawberries. I'm craving something more solid but am afraid to try anything in fear of being miserable or throwing up. I haven't thrown up even once, but people have told me that happens sometimes when you first start out on solids. Is this true? I've lost 20 pounds and am so happy to finally have my band.
  17. I think the thing is people get frustrated. You're right, if you really could control your eating you wouldnt have needed the surgery. But if surgery and the possiblility of mucking it up isnt enough to keep you on the straight and narrow, I really dont know what anyone can say to you. Everyone goes through it, true, but really, how committed were you? Were you ready for this? That's not judgemental but for heaven's sake, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on the program. Support is not going to come in the guise of people validating what you're doing. That does you absolutely not good. Support comes from people suggesting what you can do to make this easier. Just becuase you're on liquids is no reason you have to starve. Liquids can be calorific, contain fat and Protein and keep your body going. Make yourself some Soup with real meat and some Pasta in it, for example, blend it up really well, thin it out with broth to a consistency you can handle now, and have as much of it as you can handle at a time, as often as you need not to be hungry. Make a real smoothie with real fruit, yogurt and milk rather than a Protein shake, get some fibre into yourself to feel some satisfaction. You can even blend up family dinners with broth to get the flavour or real food - NO food is off limits, just in solid form! There. There is no reason to go hungry. And as for "wanting to chew something" as so many people say, you just have to suck it up. Its only a couple of weeks.
  18. Thanks for all the suggestions. I REALLY like mixing the unflavored mix (I have a bag already) to my sugar free pudding. I never thought of that. I do mix it with Jello when I make it, and that's decent. I can't do the greek yogurt, cottage cheese thing. I didn't do it beforehand either. My Nut doesn't want me to snack AT ALL...but, to get my Protein in...I'm gonna have to.
  19. Finally I joined this forum because I need others help I had surgery January 30,2014 I'm three weeks two days out I have lost nearly 30lbs in two weeks ( not sure from where yet lol) but I see my hubby my kids eat and I just want to eat but all I have is water water water! I need recipes I'm over broth , soup, and yogurt!! I'm so depressed and already had severe depression and bipolar before surgery! I feel alone and weather doesn't help and I don't want to fail at this I'm tired of failing!!!!! But all I want is to eat, quit crying, and lose even a lb or two but all week stuck at same and I don't eat ugh
  20. Thanks girls! Yes I'm on Stage 1 All liquid diet. But I don't see anything bedsides Jello and popsicles. But it says: If you have reached your 480z. (Which I have). Then you can move to Almond milk, 1% milk, Kefir drinkable yogurt or blenderized low fat soups(chicken noodle/puréed). Yes. I'll call my surgeons office 2morrow morning for sure regarding the pudding.

I bumped up.. is that so wrong?

Hi, I had my band placed on September 1st. I had my postop appt today and explained to the dietician that I am SUPER HUNGRY. She spoke with the doctor and they both agreed to let me add Greek Yogurt to my Protein shakes to thicken them up. They want their patients on the liquid for 2 full weeks. The dietician did mention to me that a previous MD that she worked with allowed puree at 10 days. I don't think you will have any problems if you stay with truly pureed foods and you don't over do it!! Good luck! Stacy
  22. Thanks for all the advice guys. I do have an appointment to see my doctor this coming wednesday. I am going to ask about the 1/2 cup rule that he has in all his paperwork that he gave me. I just thought it was a little strange to say only eat 1/2 cup of food for 3 meals a day and nothing else. I couldn't imagine getting enough of anything with that small a portion. But I have to admit, when I tried to eat a little more than 1/2 a cup I found out that left should and neck pain to flair it's ugly HEAD! I was not happy about that and the doctor said I probably ate too much and needed to stop what I was doing! I absolutely know that I am not getting anywhere near the 60 grams of protein, let along hardly any water at all. The protein shakes are a problem since they give me horrible gas and I"m not sure if it's because of the milk or not! The doctor told me to lay off the protein shakes and try to get my protein in through other means. However, I am only on pureed foods so its hard to get 60 grams of protein unless I eat only yogurt and cottage cheese all day long. Not something I'd like to continue for 4 more days. I was hopeing for a little bit more of a variety by now! UGH....sorry I do realize that I sound like I'm complainging. I am continuining to lose weight, and I like this but not the way it feels like I'm losing it through starvation and wonder what is going to happen when and if I actually get to eat regular again! OH boy.

    Chicken Gyros?

I would ask if they make the sauce (if not ask if they will tell you the calories listed on the container). If they do make it ask whether it's made with low fat yogurt. Full fat Greek Yogurt has has much fat calories as ice cream. Trader Joe's was giving samples of their full fat French vanilla Greek yogurt. I said to myself this tastes like melted ice cream. Well when I read the container it had the same calories! Also often the meat in the Gyros are a mixture of ground up meats. May not really be that healthy. Most Greek places will have chicken Kabobs, I would probably say that would be a MUCH better option.
  24. I'm a May 6th sleever as well! Doing pretty well... I've been home two days, and like everyone else, getting all liquids and Protein in is a bit of a challenge. Just not hungry, but I try and eat every time my hubby does, and to only eat protein fortified things, i.e.: greek yogurt with a scoop of vanilla Protein powder in it (yummy!). Yesterday I think I got 70grams of protein, but that was with drinking a shake, which I think detracted from my Water, I may have only gotten 48oz of water yesterday... woke up with a dry mouth. On the pain side of things, just the incision on my left (where they took my stomach out) is sore, I still have to splint it when getting up or down from a chair, etc. And both nights before I went to bed, I had episodes of getting my night time pills "stuck" then stood there trying to get them to either come back up, or go down for about 20 minutes. Last night I had the brilliant idea of taking a gas x strip when this happened, since really it feels like you need to let out a big burp. That seemed to help, I was able to go to bed a few minutes later with no more issues. Tonight I'm going to try and take my bedtime pills a little earlier. So all in all, healing up pretty good, and I took a chance, and stepped on the scale today: down 3 pounds from surgery day!

Difficult time losing weight before pre op appointment

Hey everyone So I've been doing a mostly liquid diet since Monday the 29th. The first day I had a headache and I wanted to eat so bad! The second day I didn't have a headache, but I became very irritable around lunch time. It's only been 4 days but I have already lost about 4-5 lbs, Yay! I'm getting the hang of it now, and I honestly don't feel like i'm starving. If I do eat a small amount, I just make sure it's something healthy, low cal and low carb. I've cut out soda all together and I'm feeling good - no longer really craving it. Here is an idea of how I've been eating .... Monday - breakfast: Meal replacement shake mixed with 1 cup of 2% milk, Lunch: chicken Soup broth only, Dinner: Half cup of chili and half cup of vanilla yogurt. Tuesday - breakfast: Meal replacement shake mixed with 1 cup of 2% milk, Lunch: 1 piece of grilled chicken, Dinner: beef broth and half cup of vanilla yogurt with some granola. Wed - breakfast: meal replacement shake with 1 cup 2% milk, Lunch: 1 cup of tuna salad, Dinner: 2 slices of pizza Thurs - breakfast: meal replacement shake with 1 cup of 2% milk and 1 small sausage patty, Lunch: Nothing, Dinner: 1 cup of sauerkraut and half cup of Tysons canned cooked white meat chicken. Keep in mind during the day's i'm also drinking lots of Water, some with crystal light and some unsweet tea with splenda. I've been trying to keep my calories around 1,000.
