    Hi a little frustrated

Thanks Tquad64 for the kind words. Your right we each will lose/gain differently. I guess the biggest thing is I feel like I am not doing what I am supposed to because I am not losing as much. However, I have lost inches and not weight during this l period of no losing, so I know I am still heading in the right direction. Yah the fill is right around the corner and I know that will help. The calorie counting is a great idea, the only thing is my doctor hasn't said what range he would like me stay within when it comes to calories or anything for that matter. I will make sure and ask when I go in on Jan. 22. I agree the exercise is key to helping with the weight loss and I have been moving around more then I did before. I bought a pedometer and have been walking at least 2 1/2 miles 7 days a week. Guess I just needed to hear its ok. Thanks again !!!!
  2. I had my pre-op class today and I have gained 6 lbs. I was told I should lose it as fresh weight gain goes right to the abdomen and takes up the room they need to operate. If there is not enough room for the intruments, they won't do the surgery. Yikes! Also ran through the possibility of having the tube put in BEFORE you go nto surgery. I would defo panci. I hope they take it out before I wake up too.
  3. Thank you for your posts, I have accepted that I'm on my own until I start getting fills. I called the doc and he also assured me what I am feeling is normal. This is pretty tough at the moment. I guess I didn't realize that when I was going to start solids again I would feel this way. I am hoping once I start the filling process I can start losing again. my doc made it a point that I stay on the south beach and minimal exercising until 4 weeks. well almost at 4 weeks so I get to hit the treadmill again. I've been walking but not very hard. I havent gained weight but I also havent lost. hopefully I will start shedding pounds again once a turn up the work outs. I cant wait to get this process moving again. thanks again!
  4. Your story is very much the same as mine. I have lost and gained and lost and gained so many times. I used weight loss drugs, I took up running, I did it all. I can get healthy but I can't stay healthy. I have never been able to maintain it. I am a binge eater and it used to hit me out of nowhere. With my third child I got to my highest weight and decided it was enough. I had my sleeve done not to long ago and it has changed my life! It is a tool but it is a tool that stays with you for life and I just know it's going to work for me this time. I know I have to change my relationship with food and I am working on that daily so I am ready. I haven't weighed yet because I am only weighing once a month and the scale is another obsession of mine that I won't be controlled by ever again. I track my food and rely on NSV'S and I have had lots of them! Wishing you much good luck on your journey whatever you decide!
  5. @@clc9 Before surgery I've gained and lost. I never could maintain for long. I had surgery June of 2014. I maintain in the 130's. I had to change my behaviors and work on some issues with a counselor. I'm a stress emotional eater. I now take my stress to the gym. It feels better than eating to comfort myself. Maintaining takes work. But it can be done. I get my Protein goals in. I workout 5 days a week. Maintaining is a balance. If I eat wrong or not exercise I gain weight. If I gain weight. I get back on the horse and work my program. I still weigh everyday to keep myself in line. Living like this is just normal for me now. Its living like the rest of the population that are health minded

Kiddo sounds like you are doing just fine. do you have a NUT - off Clear liquids, where are you with your meal plan? doctors all give different time periods to eat/drink different stages of food. being 30 lbs down, post op? thats great don't worry - all sounds good - keep up following the "rules", weight will go down slowly but surely good luck kathy
  7. I came across this in one of the FB groups I am in and thought it would be very helpful for a lot of us https://nutritionforweightlosssurgery.com/weight-loss-woes/
  8. Hi All, I'm getting in the home stretch of completing my 6 month program. Only 2 more visits!! I mentioned it to my hubby and he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. I said I've been telling you since June that I'm going through the process. We had a heart to heart and he is starting to come around about me having the surgery. He is worried of course about the surgical part and me losing too much weight. Is there any such thing (wink...wink :-) :wink2:Glad we talked and I'll keep you all posted. P.S. - which of the Protein Shake providers sends out the free samples? I saw it in a post a while ago and can't remember. Thanks for listening..... I am......thatgurl...... continued success to everyone...keep on....keepin' on!
  9. I am 2 weeks post op and I am very very discouraged .. one would think consuming 4oo to 500 calories a day u would lose some weight I have only lost 7 lbs since surgery and that was the first few days and then my period showed up and gain 2 lbs back hence no weight loss in 12 days .. has this happenned to anyone and is now losing? after the fill????? I think i made a huge mistake .. should have done RNY be well LIsa
  10. Hi Bandaide: I'm right there with you. I finished the first round of doctor's appointments, waiting for my letter from my PCP and my supervised diet and I'm a wreck as I wait for the insurance approvals. My nerves are more focused around, what if I can't..... get insurance to cover this, stick to the pre-op diet, lose weight after I have the procedure, maintain the weight loss..... I find that the more I get into this, the better I do feel about it. I have talked to a few of the women in my surgeon's waiting room and felt even better after talking to them. Tomorrow I'm going to my first support group. I read the book, "The Idiot's guide to weight loss surgery" which was written by my surgeon. And I read the blogs on here that I am particularly concerned about. I feel like the more I learn about it, the more confident I become. I was also afraid of telling people. Embarrassed by my "failures" and what they may think of me. To my surprise, while I have only told a handful of people, every one I told knew someone who had this done and said they were much happier with their decision. It's not like we have many options out there. You are doing this for a healthier life. I look at it as if I do nothing, then either nothing will change, or more likely, I'll only weigh more. At my age, it gets MUCH harder to loose weight. Hang in there and talk to people on here who have gone through it. Good Luck!
  11. I've just got back from the doctor and I'm feeling more than a little frustrated. This is the fourth time now that I've had a fill and then a subsequent unfill. Last month I went from 10.8ccs to 11ccs in my 11cc band. This was too much and I couldn't keep down saliva. I went back to the doctor the following day and he took me down to 10ccs. Yesterday I went for a fill. He took me from 10ccs to 10.5. I waited in the doctors office and drank a cup of Water. I knew right away this was too much as I threw the water up. He took me down to 10.2. Yesterday I felt tight but ok but this morning I couldn't keep down any liquids and was vomiting all day so I went back this evening for an unfill. Now I'm at 9.8ccs. For the last month at 10ccs I've had some restriction but not enough. I felt like I was really having to control my eating and I was getting hungry after a couple of hours. I lost about 3lbs last month. I'm just feeling like I've had enough. I'm down to my last 20lbs now so on the outside I look good, but my eating is still not where I want it to be. My weight loss has slowed right down and some months I don't lose anything. I'm worried that I'm going to feel even less restriction now! I know the band works differently for everyone and I know some people never find the right spot. I just hope that this doesn't apply to me. I will have my 1 year anniversary of my surgery in 2 months so I definitely feel like I should be there now. I'm not sure what to do!! Any advice would be really helpful....

    97 more pounds to go!

Sooo happy for your happiness. This is what it's about, take the good with the bad and keep it moving!!! Learn along the way, some people are so depressing it will drive you CRAZY. Now I understand why some require the psych examine. Way to go on your weight loss and I pray your 97lbs is a success. Congratulations

    2nd thoughts...

My mom was the same way when I started the process. She tried to scare me with the leaks and deaths and all that. I've been on Phentermine multiple times because that's what she wanted me to do and have almost had to go to the hospital on them. They can cause heart attacks faster then my weight problem can. I had to start the process and go thru most of it without her support. I go for my last weigh in next month and she is finally on board. Once she realized this was the best option for where I am in life and that the hospital I'm using hasn't had any deaths or anything she has accepted it and is actually encouraging me now. I decided at the beginning of this that I was going to do it with or without her support because I have to do what's best for me. That's the way you have to look at it. She hadn't quite been in my shoes because she was skinny and healthy all of her life until she started having kids whereas I've been overweight for as long as I can remember. I think that is why she was anti surgery when it all started. Didn't mean to ramble that much but I hope it helps!

    Im new here

Kaiser I think does want you show that you have been on a medically supervised diet and that it failed I don't know how Im going to show that either. I can't afford any of their medically supervised diets . The only one I can show is weight watchers and jenny craig and I dont really have proof of them so we will see what happens when I go on the 19th of january. did they offically record your weight there?

    Im new here

I'm from No. Cal but hopefully I can shed a little light. Up here we are required to go to classes while we are in the process of jumping from their hoops. We are also required to loose 10% of our weight prior to surgery. This amount is determined by the amount you weigh at the time you go to orientation. Yes, we had to have our blood tests, ekg and I think a chest x-ray prior to orientation. If it's more than 6 months before you get surgery, you will probably have to have them done again. To my knowledge, Kaiser does not require you to show you went to Jenny Craig or WW type of weight loss programs. They want you to go through theirs so that they know you have been educated on how to eat and what it will be like after WLS. They also require the weight loss and classes to find out if you are really dedicated to following the programs. You can loose as much weight as you want prior to surgery and you won't be "disqualified" from surgery. They psych evaluation is to make sure you know what you're getting into and to make sure you're not someone who will abuse the ability to loose weight. This is a truly life changing surgery and there will be times that without your shield of food you will have to learn to deal with something differently. It's not something that is overly traumatic to most people but it is a fact. Should you have questions prior to oreintation I would call patient services. They can either give you the answer or give you the number to the bariactric department. This is what I did when nobody could answer whether Kaiser did lap bands or not. They can also tell you the require

    Was the Band Necessary?

I'm getting the Band bc in the past I also have tried dieting, the part of losing weight is easy like Sweetpea said but my problem is maintenance.... That's why I think I need the Band the most! Its like a "headstart" for me bc I thrive on results.... The Band is so nevessary. I only wish I could have gotten it before I was 30! The last 10 years have been so challenging w/ diets that have failed for me.

    Not a miracle surgery...

I was too tight for several months (and didn't realize it) and got so sick of sliming and PBing that I asked the doc to take me down to 6 cc (from 8). Now, if I want, I can eat anything and in quantity, just as I could pre-band. However, I know that even at the sweet spot, it's still possible to not lose weight...or even gain because you can still eat junk and you can still 'graze' all day.
  18. I had my surgery on the 18th May and have 4ml in a 10ml band. I am so very happy that I took this step to help me control my weight. There have been quite a few tough times since I first decided to get the band but I know it is worth it. I wish you all the best with your own weight journey, and I try to remember that everyday is a new beginning.

    Second fill!

keep us posted. i always find "fill stories" funny congrats on all the weight :thumbup:loss to date!!!
  20. Now that I'm finished grieving for the time being, I thought it may be a good time to post. About a week post-op, I went through a serious mourning period, with all the doubts and questions. I finally realized that pre-band, food was my best friend. With the band, I just can't have that relationship anymore (which, after all, is the whole point of the band). For some reason, I didn't realize how much it was going to impact me post op. What did I do? Why did I make it so that I can't enjoy my main source of pleasure anymore? About 24 hours later, I had to lay it all out for myself again. I did it because food was destroying me. My weight made my injured knee useless. I could barely walk. I hated the way I look, so I was always depressed. I did this so that I can feel good again, so that I can take long walks again.. so that I can be HAPPY again. It will be worth it, I just have to tell my old friend goodbye, especially since it was destroying me one mouthful at a time.
  21. I too decided on the band. i wanted less invasive and a slower weight loss. you have a better chance of exercising and tightening the loose skin. But good luck and I'll be rooting for you

    New to lap band surgery

Everyone is different. For me, i took pain meds for 3 days, and it was over the counter, cause i am allergic to everything else the recovery was much better than i thought it would be, better than when i had my gallbladder removed which only had 3 incisions. Just watch what you eat, be very diligent in foods you choose as you don't want to PB or vomit, it is not pleasant at all! i just had my first vomiting episode this weekend in public at a restaraunt and very embarressing. LOL! just chew, chew, chew you foods. stay away from white breads and follow your doctors advice and orders. You will have to adjust your eating habits, but i didin't find this all that hard as i didn't want to do this for nothing. Seen friends who abused their band or gastic bypass and they gained it all back! I for one, will not abuse my band. It is my Tool, not a quick fix. It helps me get to where i need to be. It is one leg of a 3 legged stool, diet and exercise are the other two. It will not work if you don't do the other two. You will be fine!

    Where Is My Groove???

sometimes the body gets too used to a routine and finds out how to do things with minimal calorie burns. Where you on a pre-op diet prior to surgery and did you continue that diet after? Are you doing the same exercise or switching it up? Do you keep track of your food intake or just do a rough estimate? sometimes, strangely, the body needs more calories than you are giving it to lose weight. I would recommend strictly journaling your food for a week to find how much is being consumed and then try eating a little bit more and see if that helps. Also make sure to get your minimum of 60-80g protein.
