    Sleeved 3/7/18

I’m only down 19 pounds. I’m starting to get worried. Is anyone else in the same boat??
  4. my sleeve surgery was done on 01/29/13 so 16 days ago. i started this journey at 370. lost 25lbs before surgery. so when i walked into surgery i was 345. when i came home from the hospital i was 355 probably from all the iv fluids. today i weight 328. but i've been 328 for like the past 2-3 days. i'm not going down anymore. is this normal? did i plateau ?? should i be exercising more?? i've been trying to walk 30 minutes daily in the gym. way too cold outside. i did start my stage 3 diet on tuesday any tips/advice is much appreciated. thanks

    Any new uk sleevers 2013

Hi. I'm in the UK too and up until this morning, I was having my band removed and a sleeve performed on 10/10. However, I've now decided to go for the bypass - same date, one day after you. Let me know how you go.
  6. What are you eating these days?
  7. Wow! You should be thrilled, the "normal" person they say gains 10 lbs over the holiday. But, that is someone without a lapband! Congrats to you success!Karen

    Frustration

I was also banded on the 19th of February. The first week I lost 10 lbs and was so so very excited. Unfortunately, this last week I have only lost 1 lb. I am also discouraged that the weight is not coming off faster while only eating 600-800 calories a day. I was on the smaller end of weight going into surgery so I know the weight won't fall off as fast, but come on...1 lb a week!
  9. Way to go Lapband Master! He didn't want to do a fill, and I go back in 2 months. Trying to get consistent at my excercising. I love to swim, bike, etc. but with a 4 and 7 yr old just don't make time. I have 5 1/2 CC in a 10 CC band.

I do NOT want to tell my dad.

I told very few people - husband, a sister, and a sister-friend. My niece who lives with me figured it out during the diet, but she's awesome and helped run interference for her mom (a different sister) and Grandma when I was newly post-op. I only told my teenagers about the hernia surgery part (true) because I didn't want them to worry (ASD/anxiety disorder) and explained I'm a very private person and I'd prefer they didn't discuss it with people, including the Grandmas, uncles, friends, and other family. And it hasn't been a problem. Of course it's also been a weird year. My dad died of pancreatic cancer last spring while I was doing the pre-op diet. I could have told him, but he just would have worried. Or argued. Or made a fuss about it with the extended family. I don't regret not telling him, even though I wish he could have seen me getting healthier. In any case, it's not surprising I'd start getting my health back on track. I'm also a pretty slow loser - no "I only lost 20 lbs this month!" for me. My husband and sister-friend also jumped on the low carb/better health bandwagon so they make great camouflage. We pretty much just tell people we're eating low carb and getting more exercise. Basically, do you want him to know and be there for you? If no, it's an easy choice. If yes, it's a little tougher, but I think if your stepmom knows you had surgery, she'll probably figure it out. But then, she'll probably be a snot no matter what happens. I'd probably just drive her crazy talking about new research into the role of gut flora and prebiotic fiber (and other health topics) until she left me alone . Might even help your sister. I do feel for you. That niece I mentioned? There's a few different reasons she lives with me and a big one is her stepmom. My niece is a 5'2 pocket Venus and the woman was buying her size 8 shoes and size 10 clothes because she just *had* to be smaller than her teenage stepdaughter. The first time I took her to an adult petite store she couldn't believe she was a size 2/4. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  11. Who was your coordinator.i was going to be using christi but she just emailed me and said that she no longer works with Dr. Kelly which is who i want to schedule with she said this: I would be more than happy to assist you in your weight loss journey. Unfortunately, I no longer represent Dr. Kelly as a surgeon. I have had numerous complaints from patients of being charged for things they were not supposed to be charged for. In November, I personally coordinated 11 patients for Dr.Kelly, of those 10 of them were charged extra for hotels, additional surgical costs and hotels the night before their surgeries that were supposed to be provided in their surgical packages. I am not saying anything against his surgical ability, but I could not in good conscience send patients to him and have him pull out whatever additional charges he feels like for that day. It was not what I want to represent and he had no intention of changing this practice, there have been other issues as well on the business side Anyone else hear of this? This had been through a lighter me. I need to find a new coordinator i guess because i would only feel comfortable with Dr. Kelly doing my surgery.

    Feeling really scared

I can relate! I'm getting sleeved tomorrow at 9:45am and I'm scared, nervous, and jittery. I just have to keep focused on why I'm doing this. I want my life back. I want to go skiing with my 10 year old this winter. I used to love to ski, but haven't been since around 1992 -- I just got too fat to fit in a ski boot (I have thick ankles) and I was afraid of tearing up my knees. I don't get to see him all the time -- he lives with my ex in California. He comes and visits for a week or so over winter break and for a month during the summer. We also see each other every other month or so for a weekend. Last year, he came up here over Christmas break, and I took him up to our local ski area twice -- he did really well in his lessons. I want to go skiing with him so bad. I believe that with this surgery, I will be able to do that. Good luck to all of us this week!
  13. That's an amazing statistic! 10 pounds a month. It's jaw-dropping. Do people even recognize you? That's probably another pleasure you enjoy that isn't food related. Keep up the good work. I'm going to remember your story as I go forward. Thanks for sharing.

    Just starting my journey

Starting the process can be overwhelming and exciting! When I started out and went to my first support group meeting, I think I nearly cried just at how miserable I felt. Of course after giving myself this incredible gift and taking this big leap to have surgery, I can tell you it was one of the best decisions I have made. There are going to be ups and downs, but the results are so worth it. I have no regrets.....oh, and I had my surgery 10 yrs ago. Wish you both all the best! Welcome to the group! Would love to hear how you progress....it is truly life changing!

    Intro - Banded 3/3

Hey SJ - I was banded at U of Penn in Philly on 3/10/08. I don't know if my office will do fills if they didn't do the surgery, but you can check. Also, go to the websites of your local hospitals. If they have a bariatric department that would be your best bet. Even though you live hear, ask the question as if you just moved here. They will be less likely to question why you left the country to get the surgery. Plus, you are paying for your own fills so there shouldn't be any conflicts. It's worth a try. I know that in Philadelphia, only HUP and Temple Hospital have Bariatric Departments. Jefferson hosp does too, but they don't do Lap-Band - only the bypass. I checked them all out when I was deciding. Since I live in the city it was easy for me to pick Penn. Good Luck. Anne
  17. Just a bit of background: I was initially banded 12/07 and then needed a band adjustment surgery in 2/09. I am now 5 months out from that surgery, and I've been going every 4-5 weeks for adjustments. Obviously they are taking it slow because I had a slipped band and we do not want to see a repeat of that. At this point, I believe I'm at 5.5 or 6 (somewhere around there) out of 14cc. I don't think I should be able to eat the amount of food I am able to eat and in the time I'm able to eat it. i haven't had any issues at all with digestion, I mean not one PB or vomit episode (knock on wood, I'm trying to keep it this way!!!!) but I can eat an entire turkey burger, the whole bun, and some baked fries on the side. And i could eat all of that in under 10 minutes. I'm trying to stay healthy and I'm eating the right things (for the most part), but when I see how fast and how much I can eat, I start to worry if there's something wrong. and I know I am paranoid and I think that my band might have slipped again (because the last time I was able to eat a lot and then suddenly nothing at all). I guess I am just wondering how others with the same amount of fill did at that stage. were you able to eat so much and so quickly?

    Hungry

selbradey DOS 11/19 easy to tolerate food, liquids??? sounds like your sleeve is being a good sleeve, and allowing you to drink what you are supposed to - broth, liquids - doesn't sound like you are overdueing anything your dr. said ok to - eat yogurt, pudding, Jello et al - couple of spoonfulls sounds like you are doing fine, don't look for trouble many many people don't start to feel the restriction of the sleeve until they start on solids take care speedy recovery

    Could I Possibly Ever Weigh 130Lbs ?

I never thought that I'd be wearing a size 10 jeans! I haven't wore this size since junior high. I love it! In fact, I am working really hard to get down to 130 lbs also. My weight is hovering around 162.4 as of this morning. My ticker says 155.9 because that's were I was last week and I really hate to change it. LOL

    Dr. Trieu, Maine General

Hi there, Dr.Trieu did my surgery on March 19. I have had a fairly good experience with him and the center as well:) I just had my first fill on Tuesday, but I have lost about 3lbs since.. Not that that helps as for long term after fills lol.. :)Kerri
  22. Hi everyone, well I had my lapband removed yesterday and I feel great. The operation went very smoothly and relatively speaking...it doesn’t hurt. When I had it put in I was laid up for 2weeks. I think advances in anesthesia has a lot to do with it. . So glad to be able to eat a fruit, salad, veggies without getting that weird look on my face. First off I’m soooo glad I got the lapband in the first place. The trajectory of my life changed so much for the better. But the band is a tool. We must still put disciplines in to achieve our goals. The reason i had it taken out, a few months ago I had a really bad virus and I think from throwing up my band slipped. So coupled with the fact I’m at my goal weight ... I felt it was time. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. I’d probably go with the sleeve since I hear maintenance afterwards is easy. The band has quite a bit of post-surgery management. If one does choose the lapband... make sure the doctor’s staff is knowledgeable, efficient and they like their job. You’ll work with them on a lot of things. Dr Spivak (Houston) put mine in and I can’t say enough about his staff. They were wonderful. And a few of them had bariatric surgery so they totally understand what we were going through. Unfortunately for us he moved to Israel. Dr Erik Wilson took the lapband out yesterday He is great. Smart, efficient, etc. As great as he is......The workings of his office aren’t great. I haven’t worked with him long but the staff was not that nice and everyone told me to contact someone else for answers. Could never find anyone. So I’m not sure I would have him put the lapband in based on that fact. On surgeries that don’t require a lot of follow up, I most definitely would use Dr. Erik Wilson (by the way there are 2 of them...his brother is Dr Todd Wilson )

When I weighed about 190-220 I was a size 14 When I weighed about 175-190 I was a size 12 When I weighed about 165 I was a size 9/10. I've got clothes from a size 20 to a size 12. At what weight were you wearing a size ?

    Since our bodies are so different.... It's probably hard to tell. My butt is 14 inches bigger than my waist, but here is a pretty good chart of what I remember: 110 -118 - Size 4 120-128 - Size 6 129-134 - Size 8 140-155 - Size 10 160-170 - Size 12 171-185 - Size 14 186-198 - Size 16 200-228 - Size 18 230-245 - Size 20 246-265 - Size 22 266-285 - Size 24 Current - 294'ish and between a 24 and 26 And now I'm like 294 and can still wear 24 in some things, like the jeans I have on right now are 24's, but sometimes I have to get a 26. I still have all my clothes from size 10 and I kept a few things from when I was a 6/8 that were my favorites.

    Weigh-In: Wednesday, February 6, 2008

It's a little past 4:00 a.m. my time. I couldn't sleep, so I decided to get up and take my official Wednesday weight, which was 234.4. I actually peeked at 233 this week, but I ruined getting solidly to that number or past that number by eating too many carbs. After I pigged out on all the carbs at the end of January, I had a party challenge on Saturday, February 2nd. We had some neighbors from the old neighborhood bring their family over for dinner. We decided to prepare fajitas for the main portion of the meal, but I also made snacks to tide us over for the meal and to ensure that there were leftovers for at least Sunday's dinner. I wasn't disgusted with myself after the party. I had a small meal of brisket and beans earlier in the day. So, that held me pretty well. At the party, I tasted all the snacks I made and after I fixed everyone a quesadilla who wanted one, I made myself a very small plate of fajitas and beans. If I had to admit to going overboard on anything, it was probably the corn chips with guacamole and one to many oatmeal cookies. Other than that I did fine. Although I didn't enjoy a six-pound loss like I did the first week, I kept up with my exercises and ate decently for the other days of the week and still had the projected two-pound loss. I must lose 10 more pounds before I will reach my first major goal of 224, which was the lowest weight I remember reaching before I regained it all. I think I will make some homemade chili. I ate chili from Red Robin the first week and did pretty well. So, with homemade chili, I'm hoping to do even better.
