  1. Hi, I am 6 weeks in and still hard to eat and drink. I just returned to work and need some ideas on what to eat feel like I'm not getting enough protein and it's really hard to drink the shakes now. I really miss using a straw.     August surgery buddies!

    I had RnY on 2nd August. I lost a little over 32 pounds between the Liver reducing diet and a week or so post op. Then it massively slowed down and now I’ve been at a stall for over a week. It’s so disheartening, I’m terrified that I’m doing something wrong! 😩 I’m trying to research as much as possible, because I wasn’t really given anything to follow. But I’m under 500 calories per day and I believe I’m eating right. Perhaps not enough protein though. It’s so overwhelming!

    Puree week

    I lost like crazy week 1. Week 2 (starting purées) I didn’t loose an ounce. Today is day 1 of week 3 (my 2nd week of purées) and I finally had movement on the scales.
  4. Hello everyone one of my favorite things to drink pre opt was body armor but of course I am not able to drink it currently do to the sugar being too high and don’t want to risk dumping syndrome. Is there anyone that’s months of weeks post op that can now do more than just 6 grams of sugar? Is that something that will stick with me lifelong? Or might I be able to have a body armor every once and again in the future? Any help I would appreciate 💜

    I've had my pre assessment today & couldn't believe all I was told. I will have to Inject myself for two weeks before & after & wear surgical stockings for 4 weeks. I'm 68 & just feel it's too much for me. I definitely do not want to inject myself twice a day. Once my knee is better I will start to gently excerise & improve my diet & help myself that way. I've never heard of anyone having to inject themselves, my neice never had too. Its all too much. Sorry.

    Puree week

    you're probably going through the infamous "three week stall" early. I did as well - mine was weeks 2 and 3. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. As long as you stick to the program, the stall will eventually break and you'll be on your way again. They usually last 1-3 weeks. constipation is a common issue for WLS patients. It's due to the high protein diet and some of the supplements some of us take (i.e., calcium and iron - both known to back people up). I've been taking a capful of Miralax every morning for years, and so do a lot of others. Other people take things like stool softeners or magnesium tablets - whatever works!

    Does anyone have issues with pureed foods? I literally only eating beans, protein shakes, different allowed cheeses and yogurt.     Weight during preop

    I’m sorry. Sometimes family thinks they are helping or being supportive and they aren’t. Quitting eating won’t help, that may make your body go into starvation mode and hold on to EVERYTHING. Week 2 post op I was barely eating 500 calories and missing my water goals as I transitioned to purées - trying to work out the new foods and making sure things sat well, and I didn’t loose a pound. Once I started hitting my protein, water and calorie goals - I started to see movement again. If you are weighing and measuring everything and your nutritionist is working with you - stick to your plan and try to implement any changes they suggest… stay the course. You will be doing everything right post surgery and hit stalls or see fluctuations - just stay the course and things will correct. Best advice I had on this board was this journey is not a straight line down… it’s a jagged line that will go up, plateau and go down - but if you stick with it you will get there. Keep working with your nutritionist… if you feel like they aren’t listening to you ask if there is another you can work with or talk to. Keep hydrated and try to keep your calories in range and meet any goals they give you. You have lots of support here. If your program has not told you to loose, maintain or other instructions - keep checking in and working with them and ask them directly about your concerns. Hopefully they can put your mind at ease.

    I'm 22 days post op, but the pain is firmly in my left side, and it does get worse when I bend over or move in the wrong way. So quite possibly it's what you talk about. I wish the surgeons or the clinic / hospital would warn people about that. It is quite scary when you have a new kind of pain, all of a sudden, weeks after surgery.

    Weight during preop

    My program didn’t give me anything about the weightloss. I’ll be honest I think the most frustrating part is that I keep getting counseled to quit eating/drinking things I haven’t had for months. My mom and sister keep telling me to just quit eating. Or quit eating for a few days each week. Could be my period sure. And yea I’m weighing and measuring everything. And my nutritionist is checking it. I’m just frustrated.

    Trapped wind 3 weeks after surgery

    3 weeks postop and you're still on codeine ... I think I was only on pain meds for the first week, if that. You might want to wean down off of that - for many reason, but especially for your peristalsis as pain meds kind of act like a paralytic on your intestines.
  12. My last nutritionist appointment was 23 days ago. I recieved a surgery date of October 6th, and I was under the assumption my paperwork would be submitted that week. I called the surgeons office today for an update and she said they will submit closer to the surgery date, "in about two weeks". Is this a normal time frame? I get more approval anxiety by the day! My pre-op EKG and labs appointment is scheduled for September 12th but they're not even submitting my claim until around that time? My patience is running low 😮‍💨🥴
  13. Good morning, I’m so frustrated. I have 2 visits left for my 6 months of Dr advised weightloss. I’m actually up in weight. I’ve tried everything: increased exercise, more produce, no soda, no added sugar, increasing fiber, only eating white meats (chicken,turkey,fish), doing 2 shakes a day and 1 meal, meditation, and getting COVID. I lost 5 pounds then even with following everything my weight went right back up. I’m beyond frustrated and worried I’m going to not qualify. I see the surgeon in a few weeks for an appointment after the EGD. Anyone else have this happen?

    August surgery buddies!

    Good morning from sunny San Diego (practically blinding this morning in front of my east-facing windows). My appointment with my primary yesterday had to be rescheduled to tomorrow, so I'll know more about my BP situation then. My BP has been steadily coming down and, with meds, was 135/80 yesterday, so they're working, but she may want to adjust. I'll also have her take a look at my incisions as the gluey stuff is coming off. I'm getting really bored of the full liquid phase (2). I rotate among 3 flavors of soup and 3 flavors of protein shake, but it's getting old. 5 days until I get scrambled eggs and mashed fruit/veg and cottage cheese! I just hit 20 pounds total lost today, even though I'm only down a net 5 since the surgery a week and a half ago (took a long time for the post-op water retention to let go). Yesterday, my cute pill organizer arrived. It contains my multi, calcium, & B12 and also my Rx (2 for BP, 1 for preventing gallstones, 1 for stomach acid--those last 2 are only for 3 months, I think). I like that it's compact but still large enough to hold everything because once I leave the house more, it will be handy to toss 1 day's compartment into a purse.

    September surgery buddies!!

    I don't know exactly what I had but at my exercise appointment she did a body fat analysis with electric current. So it wasn't just a scale but she said it was an older model but she liked it better. I didn't write down my results though but she wrote it down to compare with new results 8 weeks after surgery. Sounds like you are doing great! Its nice to have other ways to see the improvement besides the scale, especially when its hard to tell.

    Hi guys! For those of you struggling, I’m saying this as much for myself as for you. Be patient with yourselves and your bodies. Do what you know you have to and what you know is right and the rest will take care of itself. Get off the scale if its making you flustered. Focus on how your body feels and what your stomach is now telling you, so you can keep doing what’s right. Remember, today is the last day of the month, so even those of us who had surgery 8/1 are only now a month out, we’re still healing and learning. I believe in us August 2022 Buddies! I know we will help each other be successful. I myself am super nervous about today. And I have not weighed myself since halfway through my pre-op. So I have no idea what I am going to hear at my 1 week post-op. But even if its a gain or not a lot I still know I am going to succeed because I am prepared to! And I know you guys are the same! We got this! You can do this! We’re here for health and NSVs! The scale can suck it! 🤣 (for now, lets not go crazy, we still need some base measurements, lol. I hope you guys all took you inches too, so you’re measuring multiple things😃) But, We’re the MFing, ABs!! We can do this! Everyone who reads this pick up your water bottle and give your self a toast and a sip to celebrate that you are here, you did this great thing for yourself and you will keep on moving! AND YOU (we) WILL SUCCEED, NO MATTER WHAT THE SCALE SAYS RIGHT NOW!! 💪🏻💪🏻

    It’s only Wednesday there is still time. I seemed to have lost 3 pounds over night after my body stubbornly held on to those pounds for dear life for the last week. (Please remind me of this when I hit my next stall - I’m sure I’ll need to hear it… lol). I hope you can still make your mini goal this week. But if it takes a little longer, you’ll get there. I honestly didn’t have confidence I would get under 300 ever again before this surgery - I couldn’t seem to make it past 309 on my own before. I nearly held my breath from 310-298 afraid to look at the scales!

    Hang in there I sat for nearly a week at a stand still once I hit the purées with the same worry. Started to move a little again today (first day of week 2 of purées). I’m convinced it was because I was adjusting Amit not hitting all my water and protein goals, as I adjusted to the purées. But who knows… it could have been any one of a dozen things. Just keep working your program and stick to the basics.

    That was a big fear of mine... I was going to get to my 1-month post-op apt and they were just going to pour on everything I was already feeling even more. It was actually the exact opposite and gave me a lot of great feedback. Don't be afraid to eat, your body needs those calories. I highly recommend you hide the scale for 1 or 2 weeks.

    I feel you. I had my surgery on the 19th and was steadily losing every day and now for 2 days nothing. I am also afraid I'm never going to lose this weight. I started pureed foods yesterday and now I'm afraid I'm going to gain. I don't want to see my Dr in 4 weeks and have to feel like a failure.

    Mini Goals :)

    Thank you! I’m dreading hitting that first fluctuation where I gain (the stall is bad enough) but I know it will happen - be it my hormones or transitioning food phases or whatever, but I’m trying to remember someone on the boards description of this journey being a jagged line with ups, plateaus and downs - more so than a straight line. Somehow that brings me some comfort to know that’s normal. Congratulations on the progress you made so far… please update when you hit that mini goal I can’t wait to help cheer you on to the next one!! One goal at a time - have faith - we will get there! ;)

    Mini Goals :)

    Well done! My first mini goal was to get under 100 kilos (220 pounds) and I thought I might get there this week. Unfortunately, I gained some weight yesterday, and today I'm still somewhat heavier than I was two days ago, so I don't think it's going to happen this week. It's great to be able to see progress. I too, have a long way to go, and sometimes I'm afraid I will never get there.

    Stalls are so annoying, I actually GAINED weight yesterday, lost some today but I'm still heavier than I was two days ago. I was so looking forward to getting under 100 kilos (220 pounds) because I haven't been under that weight in more than 10 years. 101 kilos is exactly where I've gotten when I've dieted on my own, so it would be a breakthrough for me to get to 100 or 99, but it's not likely to happen this week now.

    I’m right there with you. I wasn’t prepared for a 2nd week stall, but today I had some movement and I’m now officially under 300! Still a long way to go - with many more stalls ahead of me I’m sure … but we can do this! Reach out if you need an ear or whatever. We are only a day apart in our sleeves and I think we are both looking to drop a similar amount of weight. Keep with it, you’ll break your stall and see that progress before you know it!!
