    BANDSTER HELL!!!

Well I haven't really lost any weight in the past couple weeks. Still 27lbs down and stuck at 252lbs! :bored I had my first fill 2 weeks ago and I do feel some restriction, but I am still able to eat quite a bit. I started counting calories last week to try to get this scale to move. I've been staying under 1000cal/day so I'm hoping that helps. I haven't weighed myself since Tuesday, but I will when I go to the hospital tomorrow for my 2nd fill. I absolutely hate counting calories so I'm hoping with proper restriction I won't have to. We'll see if the second fill will get me there! I have less than 2 weeks left for Las Vegas and was hoping to lose 13lbs by then. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen so I'll take ANY loss at this point. On a positive note, I've been working out everyday and my body is definitely changing so I feel good about that!!!

9 month anniversary of band removal!

Exactly, in fact I just had my gallbladder removed 6 days ago due to weight loss.
  3. I was just thinking the same thing so I went and researched it and it has nothing to do with the band but with rapid weight loss. Which was talked about at my first meeting pre surgury. Its is something that has been in the back of my mind everytime I get a pain anywhere I want to blame it on the band.

    encouragement needed

I felt that way 5 years ago when I first looked into it. I left halfway thru the seminar and thought to myself I don't need this I can this. At that point I had no co morbidities and could still move and exercise. What I didn't understand until this past year is the relationship I had with food. When this surgery was recommended to me by my general surgeon I still had huge doubts about doing it. Even when I started looking into it more. When I found out I had to do a 6 month supervised diet I was actually happy for the delay. It let me get my head wrapped around all the changes that were going to take place and deal with they WHY I ate the way I did. Most of it was pure laziness and the other part was comfort. I knew if I didn't have my head in the game I would not succeed with this and would struggle. And that I did not want. The reasons that I turned to food for comfort I began working on, really working on. I decided that being healthy was more important to me. Now that I had waited I had developed some co morbidities and one was the possible loss of my eye sight. I am 12 1/2 weeks post op and doing great. Is it tough at times, you betcha, do I want to go the gym like I should, nope but I do, am I grateful for this gift I have been given, YEP! Now I just wish I had done it sooner. But I think if I had I would not have been as successful as I feel I am now. I am sure you are over analyzing things, we all have done that. But just know that if you can get thru the first two months, following your docs orders, doing what you are suppose to you will succeed, you will lose weight and it will get easier. Make sure you reach out when you need support, I hope you have a good support team behind you at home, I know this has helped me immensely!! Good Luck and you got this!!

    Appt with Dr. Billy

Dr. Billy likes to see his patients every 6 weeks. He says his most successful patients do this. He likes to make sure there are no problems, concerns, dietary issues, etc and the every 6 weeks works. I have remained more truthful about what I eat knowing I will see him that often. I did not get a fill this time cause I simply didn't need one. He uses the approach of asking the patient if I feel I need a fill instead of using a strict schedule. Makes me as a patient feel as if I have more control over my own care. As a nurse I love that approach. I don't feel so removed from the doctor that I don't feel comfortable asking him a question. Billy seems like a friend when I visit him. He is so sweet and kind and caring. His PA Dennis is really attentive and funny. My cholesterol was checked by my PCP about a month ago and it was 188. Pre banding it was in the upper 250's. So yes your cholesterol can decrease with weight loss. My blood pressure came down as well and I am off all meds for cholesterol and blood pressure. Have been since I was banded. WHOO HOO!! The H. Pylori test is very cool. You breathe normally then you hold your breath and blow out into this bag. Then you drink this very sweet lemony flavored clear liquid. Wait 15 min and breath into another bag. You even get to keep the nifty glass the liquid comes in. LOL!! I think I answered all the questions. Did I miss anything?

    Oh Man, What A Morning!

Yikes! Like your loss not your agony! Dear lord charlie horses are the worst. I get the thigh ones if I try to bend my legs too far. Apparently 325lb me isn't as flexible as 20 years and 200lbs ago me. Who knew. There is a sugar free/reduced sugar plum juice that we buy for the clients at work that is a gentle way of moving things along. Sunsweet plumsmart I'm pretty sure is what it's called. I know it has some natural sugars and carbs but in small amounts for this specific reason it shouldn't hurt. We give it to a diabetic and it's really made a huge difference for him without effecting his bloodsugar. Sorry to hear your victory today was clouded by also being uncomfy!

    PAIN! WTF!?

I am sorry to hear this. I asked about this very issue during my last appointment. I was told that most people lose their hair due to the body being shock after surgery, not so much of a nutrient deficit. I even asked about taking biotin and collagen and my dr said that it was inevitably going to happen. I believed her but I still bought and take the pills.

    please help

Hello~ Congrats on starting this process... however it can be long and drawn out. But also, super worth it. Do you have any insurance? Medicaid? Medicare? Alot of insurance plans now do cover weight loss surgery. Medicaid/Medicare do. You just have to follow their protocal. If not, could you get a loan? Also, have you looked into government trails. It may not be for lapband specifically but maybe the gastric sleeve. Good luck!
  9. I am just over 4 weeks out and have lost 50 lbs. so far. SUppose to have 100-110 gr of protein a day. Switched over to the long term vitamins/calcium the about a week and a half ago which is about the time my syptoms started. I have been very tired or rather weak feeling and a loss of balance. I was thinking it could be stress as a lot is going on right now but just not sure. Mostly getting my protein in but not the full amount everyday. Probably average about 80-100 a day. I will probably contact my Dr. today but I am not scheduled to see him again until the 8th. Just wanted to know if this was normal at this stage of the process before I "blow the whistle"..

  11. Christal, Well at least you are losing weight! I haven't lost ANYTHING since we got back from Mexico. Nothing. I lost 15 lbs while we were in Mexico but that is all. On the flip side, Coy has lost 65 pounds. I'm proud of him. His whole body is reshaping and he's starting to look different. Congrats on the weight loss girl, so sorry to hear about you guys losing your jobs. Hopefully you can file for unemployment to keep you going until work starts back up. Caley
  12. Your post was very entertaining! I totally understand~ I have tons of lose skin and I hate it. It's just part of the process. I am really pushing myself to go to the body toning classes at the Y. They have us use lots of weights and I am seeing a difference. I also bought a Shake Weight. It is suppossed to tone your arms so we will see! Hope things get brighter for you! Congrats on your weight loss.

I am glad you are doing better! Great loss too! :banana
  14. Hi everyone! I am new here.... So trying to get used to navigating.... My name is Jenn and I am 29 years old. I had gastric bypass surgery in Buffalo NY on May 8 2008..... So just a little over 4 years ago. I lost 200lbs in all, but had a slight bounce back...... So my current totally weight loss is 170lbs. I am really satisfied with me decision even though I do suffer from some long term setbacks (which I am sure I will seek advice in other forums). I am married to a caring and loving man for 6.5 years now. He met me at my biggest weight.... And saw me for who I was then. We have a gorgeous daughter together that will be 6 yrs old next month in July. I actually gave birth to her at my heaviest! She is my best accomplishment ever! She is the reason I had this surgery....so I can live a long life. I am also enrolled in online classes with University of Phoenix. I have two classes left and will have earned my Bachelors in Management. I started school only after my surgery as well. That was a huge goal after gastric bypass. I feel like this surgery saved my life.... Not only physically , but mentally too. I look forward to making new friends as I peruse around and join some discussions!

    Newbie here!

Thank you all for your warm welcomings! I am excited and I will try to post consistently throughout this journey. Kat817- it "sounds" like you are truly enjoying your weight loss, I am really happy for you. It is so funny how the smallest things that many people take for granted like crossing your legs or wearing a certain type of jean/pant can mean the world to someone else.
  16. Hi, I am planning on using Nutrisystem for my weight loss program. And when i called them, they said that LOTS of lap banders use their program. So, are any of you all out there using Nutrisystem? How is it working for you? I like it for the following reasons: 1. Right size portions, 2. Ready in a minute 3. Easy to grab and go to work., Eat in the car, or pack in my purse for emergencies. 4. Gycemic balance. 5. Variety of choices. 6. No calorie counting. 7 Desserts and snacks: Nutrisystem does not ignore between meal Snacks and desserts. 8. It is good every day food that I will eventually need to transistion to using in my every day life. 9. No cooking - It is hard to control portions and calories when you cook from scratch. 10. it is hard to cook low cal for one - and keep it tasty. Hubby wants no part of low calorie meals that taste low calorie. 11. Very time consuming to cook low calorie. I am busy. 12. No leftovers, so no guilt for wasting food. It seems like it will work, but I would like to hear from you if you are using/considering Nutrisystem.

I have atleast 135lbs to lose!

GERD: Gastroesophageal reflux disease. People often suffer heartburn or have acid indigestion as a result. RNY gastric bypass removes most of your stomach and re-arranges your intestines and you'll be on vitamins for the rest of your life because your body will not be able to absorb the nutrients it needs due to the changes to your digestive tract. Gastric sleeve only cuts out 85% of your stomach, but otherwise leaves your digestive tract alone. You'll probably be on vitamins for at least the first six months since you'll be limited by your small stomach, but eventually you'll be able to get what you need from food with little to no supplementation. People lose faster on bypass, but after one year out, the weight loss is about the same for both procedures. There is no "better choice" - there's only what's the best choice for you. If you are over 50 BMI, have GERD, and/or have an addiction to sugar, bypass is often recommended. If you don't have any of those issues, usually sleeve is recommended.

    "Old Man"

Welcome Steve. Even though you may feel in the minority here on the boards, one of the most inspirational posters on this board for me has been B-52. I believe he's 60ish and has been extremely successful with his weight loss! I'm not sure how to look up specific posters on here, but I'm sure you'll run across him eventually.

    OK MAD AGAIN!!! different topic

I went to a local weight loss support group too and got the same response by the leader of the group who worked for the local bypass office. She didn't believe I had lost so much with the band in such a short time and just seemed condesending. I never went back either.
  20. I am so frustrated. I blew our savings to have this surgery and now I don't think its working. I have lost 5 lbs and I am 10 days post op. I am getting in my Protein and most of my Water. I am still in the clear/full liquid phase. The only possible thing I can think happened is I eat a pudding because I was so sick and tired of drinking Protein shakes so I add my protein to my pudding and between that and the protein shakes I am at like 25-30 grams of carbs a day. Please tell me there is hope. I am so upset

    Loose Skin

I have been reading about the hair and skin benefits of collagen in bone broth. Has anyone tried this to help with loose skin?
  22. Fern, interesting post... I am not at goal yet, but I am fighting my way there and still trying! So, although I can honestly say that the bad habits I used to have aren't with me, they do show their ugly head now and again... they pop up for a day or two and I have to fight them away. However, I can completely relate to your injury issues. SInce having my sleeve, I have done my best to get fit, strong and healthy and in that process I have damaged my back/groin area that has now rendered me unable to train. I am going to physio to try and sort the problem out but I am finding the lack of exercise beyond frustrating. I haven't trained for nearly a month, put on top of that no weight loss for 7 mths and I am finding myself wondering 'what is the point'. I have recognised that this is my old mindset and I have to remind myself that I have done well and I have made a huge difference to my health! But yea, it is a strange place for me at the moment. I have said it before, but I feel that my body and my mind are battling each other and my body is definately winning by maintaing this weight - my head reacts by getting frustrated and cross as I am still 'obese' on the BMI scale and after all this effort and weight loss that hurts 'emotionally'! But, to answer your question 'why did I get this surgery?' For me it was a permanent commitment to ME; a commitment that can not be undone - that means that for the rest of my life (and hopefully and longer and happier one) I have to be aware of my diet and health. I'll be looking forward to reading other responses...
  23. I think that I'm lucky I didn't have that moment of: "What the f***k did I just do to my body". I thought when I woke up after surgery I'd instantly regret it. My only regret now is that I do feel depressed, but I feel like it's not over the loss of food. I don't miss it much. I'm concerned it's because of the low carb diet causing a serotonin imbalance. Sometimes I miss pizza and soda, but to get through it, you have to tell yourself you did this to lose weight and get fit. Without this surgery, I'd never do the things I want to do with my body. You have to remind yourself why you did this. What are your goals and keep your eye on the prize!
  24. My sister will be graduating from Pharmacy school in a few months. She knows her stuff. Here was her recent take on the new "wonder" weight loss drug Alli. This made me crack up!!! And kind of disgusted me all at the same time! --------------------------------------------------------- Public Service Announcement : Weight Loss & Alli Warning: This is graphic but someone has to tell it like it is. The news companies and pharmacies are too afraid. After hearing some non-pharmacist friends talking recently, I decided to write this blog to help everyone out. Alli is a great new diet pill that is proven to work and is available over the counter. You can lose up to 50% more weight using Alli than just by diet and exercise alone. Great, huh? No. Alli makes you poop your pants. Alli's marketers hide this by using the term "fecal urgency." You will have "oily discharge" throughout the day. When you fart, you will shoot out oil. When you start taking Alli, you have to bring an extra change of clothes. When you take Alli, according to the patient information brochure, you may recognize what's in your poop as the oil that is often on the top of your pizza. This statement disturbs me. First it implies that you look at your poop in the toilet and say, "Hey! I recognize that from somewhere!" Second, it implies that all fat people eat pizza and not just pizza, but the greasy, nasty kind. Third, why use the pizza analogy?? A simple "it looks like fat or oil" would have sufficed. Personally, I think Alli's marketing writers should be fired. And this still happens when you are following the "rules" and only eating the recommended 15 grams of fat per meal. If you eat more than that, may God be with you. Here is a scenario of what will happen: You eat: A turkey sandwich You: Poop your pants You eat: Low fat chips and salsa You: Poop your pants You eat: A salad You: Poop your pants You eat: A salad with ranch You: Poop your pants all day and will probably have to sleep on the toilet You eat: Taco Bell You: Poop you pants for days, and probably will get fired because you skipped work. You'll have to quit if you did go because everyone saw you poop your pants. You will also need to buy a new collection of work pants and maybe a new office chair. So instead of buying Alli, maybe you should buy stock in Depends or the Tide To Go Pen stain remover. Just a tip from your neighborhood pharmacist.
