I'm sorry to hear this. But, I agree with your daughter - it's good that your condition was learned before the surgery, not on the operating table. Best of luck getting the block resolved - hopefully it's a quick procedure and it only puts your surgery date out a few weeks.

Well, the day has finally arrived. Surgery is just a few short hours away. I have visited the site quite a bit over the last couple of weeks. It has been my salvation during the pre-op liquid diet. It has been nice to hear about the ups and downs everyone has had and will continue to have over this tremedous journey. I'm looking forward to the next 40 years of my life being much healthier and able to do things I couldn't do before. My highest weight was 283 lb. When I went to the doctor for the final consultation I was down to 274.8 lb. Not good, but at least down. I'm curious to know what my weight is now before surgery after the pre-op diet. Anyone else going in today for surgery?

Help me get these fluids down!
glitter eyes replied to Jasley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No one wants to slap you- it's hard and challenging in the beginning to find what works for you. It takes time and a lot of experimenting. Some things that helped me: I needed my fluids ice cold, some people do better with room temperature and some with hot liquids. I had a lot of discomfort from trying to drink and even sip. What helped me was I put my liquid in a medicine cup and made that into three sips so each sip was so tiny. That helped the most. Then came the struggle to find what fluids did best for me. I drank a lot of sugar free vitamin water, Sobe' water and propel. I had to try different flavors. Even water with drops added to it was uncomfortable. I lived on peach propel until about two months ago and now I can drink water with flavor drops. Hang in there you will find what works for you. Good luck -
Excited but anxious

I was seriously second guessing myself for the weeks prior to the surgery. That first week and a half AFTER sugery I even had HUGE buyers remorse. But I am now losing my fat. My chances of having diabetes, which runs strong in my family, are going down. My blood pressure is already low enough to get me off of that med. I'm going to be able to sit in stadium seating and not get "stuck.' I will soon be able to shop in the misses section of the store. My list goes on and on..... I am happy with my decision. :0) -
Hi, I'm Cari and I'm just beginning my journey with Lap-Band. I have been overweight or obese pretty much my whole life, going up and down in weight every few years. I would go on a diet and start exercising regularly, and lose weight, but then I would put it back on. The last time I lost a lot of weight, I ended up getting pregnant and gained it all back plus some. While I was pregnant I had a sit-down fall and while my baby was fine, I was not so lucky. I suspect that the fall is what caused my three herniated discs in my back. Then after I had my son, I ended up developing fibromyalgia. Between the pain from my back and the fibromyalgia and the medications that I have been on, I have gained 50 pounds this year alone and am now the heaviest I have ever been. My rheumatologist has recently recommended the lap-band procedure and referred me to a Center of Excellence that's relatively close to me where I can have the procedure done. I go in for the informational seminar in January. I have been reading the boards here for a while and trying to get as much information about what I will be facing in the future. I really appreciate everybody's supportive attitudes, honesty, and willingness to share some very personal information about your journeys. It's nice to meet you all.

Excited but anxious

It's normal to feel that way, I had my surgery last week. What gave me that final push was that if I don't have the surgery, my morbid obesity would increase my chances of serious health problems. So, I needed to do this surgery to use it as the tool it is to decrease my chances of having those serious health issues. . -
Meeting with the surgeon Thursday
kmorri replied to Marissela's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure it will go fine. Just try to relax. Do you know if they have submitted your authorization request to your insurance company yet? If they have I'm sure they will be setting a surgery date for you. Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks for you to actually get the letter from the insurance company so maybe it's already happened! Your appointment is tomorrow so no need to call the insurance company to try to find out....I say just wait until your appointment. Good luck and let us know how it goes! -
Well, gettin the old appetite back and still controling my porteins. I only eat half of what I get. Trying to make it to eat to live and not live to eat.:smile2: I have my fill aug 8th, kinda nervous but ready. To date I have lost 33lbs and kinda of at a plateau now, which sucks. But I know eventually it will get back. This has been the best thing I have ever done for myself and cannot wait to get the full effect of it all.

Thanks phatkatblue...my dr requires first five days of clear liquids..no soups or anything..then two weeks of just three protein shakes a day and clear liquids..again no soup broth yogurt...i start mushies for dinner only on may 7th
-
hang in there guys! you'll be eating before you know it! what are you required liquid and mushy times?i was on mushies at discharge and stayed on them until my two week post op appointment then was able to eat some solids...
-
I agree, I'm on full liquids this week so it's a teeny bit better than just clear liquids but I'm so hungry. My stomach growls all day long and I catch myself chewing my liquids lol. Tomorrow I'm going to buy some spicy soup from a local Chinese restaurant and strain it, still not actual food but it's going to taste a lot better than the broth I have been eating. I'm actually looking forward to starting mushies on Monday so I can have chicken salad and eggs!

I was banded Nov. 12, 2012. My recovery has been great and 33lbs lost. I have 5 incisions from surgery. Three are completely healed and barely noticeable. The 2 smallest have decided to get red and looked like they have pus in them. Turned out to be thread from stitches , I guess, Doesn't hurt, but seems strange.. Due to go back for my first fill, Jan 3. Guess, if no pain or infection I will hold tight till then. Anyone had this happen? Thanks!

Received my 1st fill today. 41/2 cc & it was fine. Just a little prick & that was it. They normally do 51/2 ccs but I wanted a little less to see how I feel. I posted a few weeks ago that I can seriously feel my port & how yucko it makes me feel. The nurse confirmed that it's a little more to the left & not completely flush with my body. I knew I wasn't crazy. Overtime I will get more scar tissue there & it will flatten out. Whew. Weight loss was 11 lbs. I feel a little quisie but not sure if that's from the fill or not eating today. I'm starving:) Hope everyone is doing well. Tina

Im new here and hope to get scheduled for Surg in June with Dr. in Oregon. Anyone here have surgery in Oregon? I have three members of my family who had Gastric Bypass but I am self pay and the lap band seems so much safer and less expensive for Self payers. My question is anyone who previously ate large amounts before lap band, are you now satisfied with less and truly feel full sooner? Dumb question but I want to learn so much. Thanks in advance for any help.

Unnatural is the bare minimum of what I would call that Gmanbat! First full week out and doing well. Still a bit tender when doing things but getting a lot better. It's easier to get up from and into chairs and bed. No dizziness. No nausea. No gas pains. Tummy is a bit sore still but getting better every day. I'd say that I'm feeling about 75% of my normal 100. I can do most of what I could before though when I do try to do too much my tummy lets me know! And I do still feel the need to take a little rest in the afternoon. Incision sites are getting a bit itchy but that means that they are healing. I'm finding that it's a real juggling act to find a balance between Protein and hydration. If I get my full required protein then I'm usually down on my hydration because I'm so full. If I get my full required hydration then I'm low on my protein. I know it's only a week out but I really don't want to have either hydration or protein issues. I do stop "eating" when I'm full so I just have to wait until my stomach capacity is a bit more. I have my first post-op appointment on Thursday. I should be progressed to mushies/soft foods then as well. I can't wait for some cottage cheese! Anything with a little bit more texture. :tongue2:

I was laying in bed today, (it's my day off) I was reading some posts and came across one that motivated me enough to get me out of bed at 7 and go do a 40 min workout. I was going to do the workout anyways but I was putting it off until later. Today is my double workout day...God help me. I've decided that I need to change things up for myself. I have already gotten in my 3 days of workouts that I require myself to do and still have 3 days left. I do believe I'll get in 5 days atleast this week. It's been a long time since I've done 5 days straight. I love to workout, I just let my life get in the way. Well not anymore. I know that if I want to reach my goal weight by my 41st birthday in July I need to get moving. My body is screaming at me for using muscles I haven't used in years, but I don't care. If I can move I'm moving this body. No amount of arthritis is stopping me now. Nor is my weight for that matter. This is my year. I normally don't think about myself so much as I do everyone else, but when I turned 40 I decided all that was gonna change. Let's talk about me!

Your insurance may mention something about a multidisciplinary approach through a bariatric program for weight loss, in that case mine said it only had to be three months... "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them" Einstein

I think u are doing great, this isnt a fast weight loss solution and this should have been explained to you prior to surgery. Weight loss till u get to your sweet spot/full restriction with fills, will depend on your willpower mainly and wise choices with food and exercise ... the average weight loss is normally 1 to 2 lbs per week, u seem to be bang on target. This time post op up to 6 weeks is for healing and getting used to the new eating regime so dont be too impatient u seem to be doing fine as u are

Congratulations on the recovery! My recovery went very well also. Just be sure to still take it easy and allow your body time to recover. Just as a heads up...many of us experience a stall at three weeks. It's completely normal and weight loss will start again. Best of luck and welcome to the Losers' Bench!

4 days Post Up and Hungry
tabbycat02 replied to valerie805's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 days post-op too, and I'm super hungry! I want everything I can't have, of course, but my protein shakes/pudding etc. make me nauseated. A lot of times hunger gets confused with reflux-they can feel about the same. I've started paying closer attention to my reflux, making sure to take my prescribed meds and add over-the-counter ones as needed in order to stop myself from advancing my diet prematurely just because I'm refluxing more. Of course the day I came home from the hospital my Mom came over with McDonalds for her lunch. I swear those fries smelled so good...! Food comercials look really good to me too right now. I wonder, is this the "head hunger" everyone talks about? I don't think I really have a good sense of what exactly I'm feeling since I'm only 4 days out, most likely still swollen, still sore, and used to taking a different medication for reflux (my surgeon switched me post-op). Maybe I'm just not used to it yet... I had some soup this evening, and I thought I felt "full" after about 3/4 cup, but I was still "hungry." I waited about an hour and went back and had some more. This doesn't bode well since I'm on liquids for another 3 weeks... -
That would be great!! You'll be getting your surgery next week! I'm so happy for you! I have about the same amount of weight to lose. How tall are you? I'm just over 5'8" and I started this journey when I weighed about 272. I'm down to about 256 now, and I'd like to get down to a size 12. That may be at 150 or 160. Even though I'm 51, I still 'think' like a younger person, and I have a lot of active goals. I think those goals will help me during weight loss. Do you have goals, and if so, what are they? You're very young, so you've got a lot of time left to do fun stuff. I think you're making a very good decision! Well, thanks and take care. Talk to you soon!

Nausea 3weeks post-op?
IncredibleShrinkingMan replied to CelestialNyx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are lucky in one sense...you have landed in that cohort whose taste buds appear to have completely changed. I have had no change whatsoever in my inclinations towards food. I just have to eat some dense Protein to kill the hunger. I agree with the poster above...ISOPURE is amazing, and is no-fat and 1g-carb for...40g PROTEIN per 20 oz bottle. I used them until just about a week ago when I was still struggling to get my protein requirement. They are available as single bottles or as 12-packs at the Vitamin Shoppe. Are you still taking any pain meds? Anything I took gave me horrible nausea, so I stopped taking them altogether while I was still in the hospital. Also, drinking Water more quickly than you are prepared to can generate this sick feeling as well. Best of luck! -
Hey sleevers, I had my surgery on 08-11-2015. The first week and a half I had no problems with nausea just gas and pain/soreness. Going into 2-3 weeks and I'm constantly nauseated. food is evil to me now. Any kind of food is hard to eat. Everything tastes overly sweet especially that fake sugar garbage they tell you to consume. All the Protein shakes I was made to purchase are disgusting. It's one thing if I could just chug it down but now sine my stomach is so small I have to sip on it for over an hour? Nope. So I know I'm not getting enough protein. Tried to eat more protein in diet although I'm vegetarian so it takes a bit more and being able to handle different types of foods which I can't right now in this stage of recovery. I was on zofran but caused very bad migraines. Then was put on Phenergan but pills was too chalky and made it worse to take, made me more nauseated. Tried to take some pepto bit started dry heaving and eventually threw that up. Finally got a rx patch for nausea and bought sea bands for acupressure. They have helped but it is still hard to eat anything. The nausea kicks in high gear once I start to smell the food I'm about to eat. I've been living off triscuits, mashed potatoes, and cheese. I can't even handle broth or Soups for the most part. I want to do better with my food but I'm in limbo. I drink plenty of ice Water so I'm not dehydrated. It's worse in the morning for some reason. I don't know if it'd because it has been a long time since my last meal? I stopped my nexium after the surgery. I haven't had heartburn. It's all nausea but I started taking it again to see if it's some sort of reflux issue...but no such luck yet. I don't have any other symptoms so I know it's nothing serious from the procedure. Has anyone else had this problem? How long did it last? How did you over come it? I'm at a loss. I was fine the first week then after that it's been a struggle. It's so weird. HELP!!! Sincerely, Would rather be in pain then constant nausea.

Taking your regular medications?
KathyM replied to KathyM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmmmm... that could make for an interesting week prior to surgery. I am on an anti-inflammatory for my arthritis, will make it difficult to work if I can't take it.
