Had my revision on May 6th. I think I was used to eating little portions with the band so I really haven't had much of problem with any food. My surgeons diet restrictions are a little conservative so I was on soft to regular as tolerated after 2.5 weeks. I can eat more than a lot of people at this stage like 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food. I can eat rice which some can't for a long time. I can eat a whole Greek Yogurt no problem. A friend of mine was eating a quarter cup for months. I guess everyone is different. I still won't attempt bread or pasta for awhile because of the fear I still have from the band. I couldn't eat those things than and since they are fattening I am trying to stay clear of them for awhile.

I'm not a revision. Sleeved 3 weeks ago. Drinking is no problem for me now. Still on full liquids but it includes cottage cheese, refried beans, yogurt, etc... Serving size is 1/2 c. Might take a little while but is just right for me.

leak and dr wants to remove my stomach
frosty1 replied to freespirit63's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going through the same thing. The dr wants to revise my sleeve to a bypass but cut the top part of my stomach out where the fistula is. I'm also not to have anything by mouth and have a feeding tube. How long was it before your fistula closed? -
Hello Sleevers, has anyone revised their sleeve to a bypass surgery? Can you explain how it went and how was the journey? I am seriously considering this due to a major increase in reflux after my sleeve. I went from taking a prilosec once in a while or when needed (before sleeve) to 2 doses everyday (post surgery) to stay reflux free. I feel I would had been a good bypass candidate due to my Gerd history something my surgeon did not inform me of nor did I know until further investigating. The bypass surgery disables gastric juices from flowing back up instantly relieving the need for PPI. I am overall satisfied with the sleeve however I am not too thrilled about the amount of PPI medication I now have to take due to its longterm side effects.

Full feeling? Band Vs. Sleeve
Rachel_TM replied to pickel1972's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too just got approved for conversion from band to sleeve after a 1 1/2 of vomiting and swallowing problems. Like Pickel, for the first 3 years, I did really well and thought the band was the answer to my problems. But when the band stops working, it creates a lot of problems, as we all know way too well. Has anyone who has already had the revision done found that you slime or vomit with the sleeve? I really hope not because I've had enough for a lifetime! But when you guys say you're uncomfortable after eating too much, what does that mean? -

Does anyone else feel this way: What if it doesn't work for me?
thinnerS replied to auroradawn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@carolina07 I too have the band and I am revising to sleeve tomorrow. But I am so paranoid if this is the right thing for me. I had so many issues with the band that it scares me to get the sleeve its permanent. Can you please give me details as far as what you felt and comparison? Thank you -
By the (very skewed) BMI charts, I should weight 118-127lbs. BUT, the national average for a woman my height and age is 137lbs. I literally bounce between 123-130lbs any given time so I guess I fall on the higher side of the "ideal" weight. My surgeon explained that when we are heavy for so many years our bones grow more dense to accommodate the weight. That was his reasoning for setting my goal weight at 150lbs instead of the lower end. I'm only 5'2" and today I weigh 126lbs, so that puts me at the high end of the BMI chart, but I'm in a size 2 jean, and an Xsmall to small top. I have huge knee, elbow and ankle joints assuming they're huge because I was morbidly obese for 10+years. We share the similar stats as I started off at 270 with the band, lost 23lbs initially, gained back 16lbs waiting on my revision, so that gave me a 7lb loss with the band, and a 138lb loss with the sleeve alone for a total of 145lbs lost. I used this "chart" to chart my loss, and my success, plus it gives a really great report at the end. I think it gave me a good idea of where I "needed" to be at goal, and life after. http://www.thinnerself.com/files/Expect_Chart.htm

I had to have a port revision because mine was leaking 3 months after my first surgery. I was told that it was a defect to the port. The surgery that was very similar to the first one. The only diffrence was that they gave me a diffrent type of anethesia the second time. I was not aware of anything because I was asleep. It was a lot easier in the recovery room

Hi all!! Just a quick one! I was banded in Dec 2008 and lost almost 60lb in the first year. Since then I can not get great restriction and have sadly gained about 20lb. I am now wanting a RNY and was wondering if there was anyone in the UK who knows of a good centre that offers revisions and if anyone has had this done on the NHS or with any other financial help. Thanks alot x

What was the cause of your SLIPPAGE?
clcort replied to Jul's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Vomiting. That's what my surgeon says. My LAP-BAND® experience has been easy-peasy. I have lost 80 pounds in 14 months, then I started getting really uncomfortable after eating and began throwing up. This became more and more frequent over about 3 months until last week when it was happening several times per day. At the ER my surgeon said I had a slip (the ER docs had no clue.) He took all the fluid out and told me to go back to fluid for four days (tomorrow) and then starting adding soft food slowly. He said his goal is for the slip to correct itself. Has anyone ever heard of this? I trust my surgeon completely and he is well-respected in our area....I am just praying he is right. I lost my job since being banded and can not afford to have it revised....it would probably just have to come out per my insurance. -
Band to sleeve revisions are very common, as the bands are so problematic and the sleeve does what the bands promise to do, but don't. RNY to sleeve is less common (I can't think of any specific cases, but there probably are some out there,) as that revision is a lot more complex, and the sleeve and RNY overall have very similar weight loss performance, so there is usually little to gain from such a change; RNY to DS is a more common revision as the DS generally performs better than the RNY, but that is a very complex revision for which few surgeons are genuinely qualified. The sleeve is becoming the preferred procedure as (noted above,) it does what the bands promise but fail to deliver, and it offers similar performance to the RNY at a lower cost in lifestyle and medical treatment limitations (fewer dietary restrictions, lower supplementation needs, no major drug restrictions - can't use NSAID pain relievers with the RNY.) If the sleeve is not a powerful enough tool for a patient's weight loss needs, the RNY is unlikely to provide any better result, and the DS should be considered.

Yep sounds like me too. I had my revision on 1/13/14 and only lost about 15lbs but I'm down about 12in of my body. The scale started moving and I've lost about 7.5 in April. That's because I'm trying to keep my calories to about 1200 and exercising about 3-4 times a week when my schedule allows it. I also started Dietbetters.com. You bet money on losing weight and if you meet your goal you win a share of the pot! Nice incentive! I have about 50lbs go to to meet my goal. Hopefully by this time next year I will have made it!

Hi Kingcake, may I ask why you want to revise from the sleeve
-
If you struggle with food NO WLS is going to "fix" that, get your head straight first. I think you've already realized that a 2nd band isn't the answer and with what you posted about having an abcess etc. it "might' not be possible? Besides the studies don't support 2nd banding, I 'd put the link here but it would just get bashed to death. I'm sure your aware but revision to a sleeve will be slower weight loss and the actual long term WL results are better with the RNY=Bypass. Just depends on if you can/do take supplements due to the Mal absorption. I don't promote any 1 surgery over another it's your decision, But it's best to RESEARCH all the options, studies then decide WHAT YOU can live with!!! Your Doctor's NOT having the Surgery YOU ARE. GOOD LUCK

Alcohol ended up becoming a major obstacle to my loss. My social life involved regular beer drinking. After getting sleeved I knew I was not supposed to drink carbonated beverages, however my desire to hang out with my friends caused me to learn how to overcome that obstacle and drink beer. I think this is the major reason I never hit my weight loss goal and then gained some back. What worked for me recently was to use a time restricted feeding program along with a Keto based diet. I ate mostly Keto and only had two meals, lunch at Noon and dinner around 5-6pm. This came from, the insulin control diet programs recommended by Dr. Jason Fung. Given that my sleeve kept me from feeling really hungry it worked well and I dropped the 20 pounds I gained during the pandemic restrictions. Now I have major issues with hiatal hernia and GERD, so a revision to RNY is scheduled for tomorrow. I've decided since I have been given a second chance I am going to make the most of it. I have determined that alcohol no longer has a place in my life, and neither do snacks and slider foods.

Help Bandsters, What Am I Doing Wrong?
kll724 replied to Staceven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you have a slip. The surgeon wsa trying to get the band to go back into place with out surgery. If it doesn't, which it sounds like it did not, the surgeonw ill eithe rhave to revision it, or replace it. Been there, with the revision. Good luck, take it easy. Don't test yoru band after having the fill unless it has had time for the swelling to go down. Karen -
Had my first appointment today..
cbarrios126 replied to Goddardgo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the lap band in 2008 and just did a revision from the band to the sleeve so has my mom and my aunt. For me personally I don't care for the lap band I didn't ever really work for me and in the end it became displaced so I had to do another surgery... -
I had band to sleeve revision one week ago today. A few people at work that I'm close to only know I had the band out. Only my two closest friends at work know the whole story. Eventually I might tell more people at work but I just didn't want their opinions and close scrutiny. Many that I work with are young and very very healthy and have no idea what I've struggled with my whole life and I don't think they'd even understand. Besides all that I don't want them to worry
